Luke sighed, "No. No, it's not you." Aggravated, he let go of her hand. "Just give some space for a minute, Jesus," he spat, slamming his fist against the door. He sighed, they were never going to work. She was innocent, naive and she needed attention and protection that he could not provide. He had a dangerous life, a life only girls like Brooke could survive; cold-hearted and irresponsible. Lacy would never be that, she would never be okay in this life. He looked over at her scared little eyes and felt his stomach twist in a knot.
Brooke smiled, "Uh, it's not. I mean, you probably have multiple broken ribs," she commented. She stood, grabbing some Advil from the side table, knowing it probably wouldn't help. She handed it to him, with a glass of water. "We can bandage them ourselves and I can get you some real pain killers," she said. "Calvin, why do you always have to be so stubborn? I told you this was going to happen," she said, scooting away from him.
