What are your thoughts on the Smiley Face Killer conspiracy theory?

For those of you who aren't already aware, the Smiley Face Killer theory stipulates that various young men that drowned across the Midwestern states of the US didn't drown by accident, but rather were murdered. The term comes from the idea that a smiley face can be found graffitied nearby all of the locations these men drowned.

Here's some sources for those who don't know about it but want to know a little more:

Honestly, I think it's bullshit. Eleven states where a serial killer potentially just follows a drunk college guy and possibly drowns him or possibly just pushes him in and lets him drown? I'm not buying it. Smiley faces as a calling card? really? I mean, even from a ritual aspect, it's a pretty sloppy and haphazard possible ritual. From what I can tell, the smiley faces aren't done in any particular definite way or in a particular color. It's also just a symbol that you can find a lot.

Also, as a rule, if one of the only places talking about is reddit, then it's probably bullshit.

Yeah, I think more or less the same way about it. When I first heard about it, I thought it sounded a little dodgy, because one of the defining aspects of drunk people is, well, they're dangerous to be around. I wouldn't be too surprised if the case is that drunk people are more likely to get themselves killed walking home by themselves than they are if they're actually driving, but that's just conjecture on my part.
