::Who Knew::

Derek had figured out what the whole issue behind Emily was, he thought. He was almost positive that he had but he couldn't be completely positive until he got to talk to her alone. BUt he wasn't going to press talking to her alone because he didn't want to upset Chase any more than his presence already was. At least, he assumed that his presence had to be upsetting Emily's boyfriend. He let out a sigh and shook his head as he headed back into the hospital room where Chase and Emily were alone. His eyes narrowed when Chase quickly moved away from his best friend. "The doctor is coming in a moment to check up on you, Ems," he murmured, now turning his attention to his best friend.

Emily nodded to Derek hearing his words. She looked over at Chase and said, "Chase, honey, could you go pick my up some clothes at my house. More comfortable clothes than this hospital gown?" She asked. She kissed his hand, her own shaking as she did so. She looked up at him her eyes pleading. She just wanted some different clothes. "This gown is hurting my side, believe it or not." She mumbled tears starting to accumulate in her eyes again from the pain. She closed her eyes and tried to relax telling Chase to tell her mother to come visit her in the morning when the doctor's let her.

Chase's eyes narrowed the slightest bit when he glanced up at the prospect of her being alone with Derek but he decided to remain silent. He moved to stand and nodded, a small smile on his lips as he leaned forward to press a kiss to her forehead. "Of course, babe. I love you. I'll be back soon," he said, squeezing her hand gently before he turned to leave the hospital room.

Darcy was quiet for a few moments, listening to Chase's footsteps fade away. He looked up to his best friend with a frown on his features, tilting his head to the side. "What's the real reason you're here, Ems?" He asked quietly, raising an eyebrow as he looked at her. He was just hoping that she would tell him the truth because he didn't want to have to pull the truth out of her.

Emily smiled up at him and murmured, "I love you too." She squeezed back and sagged into the bed before going to hold Derek's hand. She looked up at him and frowned hearing his question. "I told you..A car." She whispered feeling her side hurt and began to cry. Once she was crying she couldn't stop. It hurt mentally and physically. She couldn't do this anymore. It hurt. She was broken. She started to sob this time, a childish, broken, sob. One that was silenced by her raising her IV injected hand to her mouth and covering it as she sobbed silently into her hand as she looked up at him, shaking her head. She couldn't do this anymore. It was killing her on the inside and outside.

Derek's face went from concerned to... almost frustrated that she seemed to be refusing to tell him the truth, only for his face to go blank when she began crying. The pain on her face told him what he needed to know because Emily was always such a happy-go-lucky girl that he knew that she had to be hurting real bad to be breaking down this way. He shook his head as he leaned forward to take her free hand and bring it up, pressing a kiss to her hand. "Ems, tell me what is going on. I can help you, I promise. I won't let anything happen to you," he whispered, rubbing his thumb back and forth on her hand.

Emily looked up at him with tears running down her face. "I can't." She sobbed out and fell against him. Her head fell onto his chest as she cried into him. She really and truly cried into him. "I can't." She repeated and said, "It's not your burden." She kept on sobbing unable to keep it in any longer. She had been keeping it in for a year now, and now it was time to let the pain boil over and show everyone how much pain she was really going through. She felt him kiss her hand and looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "He got mad." she finally whispered, "He just gets so mad."

"Hey Ems, stop. Shush, I'm not going to do anything I don't want to," he whispered, leaning forward to cup her face in his hands. He was smiling a bit and started rubbing his fingers in circles, smiling sort of sadly. He wanted to know answers and he wanted to keep her safe. He was praying he could figure it out and help her realise that she was safe with him. "I want to help you, Ems. I want to keep you safe. It's what best friends are for," he murmured, leaning so he could sit back down but his hand was still cupping her cheek because he couldn't bare to let go of her. Not right now.

Emily shook her head and said, "this needs to be said." She took a deep breath, which was indeed painful, and said, "It started a few weeks after we started dating. He started to hit me." I just rolled with it because he didn't hit me hard. Then it got worse and worse." She sobbed. "Then he told me not to see you anymore as a friend because he got jealous. He told me not to see you anymore at all, and I told him no day after day. So he beat the shit out of me." She told him sadly, and took another deep breath before pressing on. "Today, I yelled at him because he called me a whore. He slapped me, then punched me several times until I fell to the ground, then he kicked me in my ribs once. Now I'm here." She said and looked up at him and said, "I was scared to tell you. I was scared to break up with him, or even try." She started to cry harder.

Derek was pretty sure that he was either going to combust because of his anger or he was just going to... snap and go crazy. Because someone had hurt his best friend and that wasn't okay. In no sense of the word and he was pissed, he wanted to go hunt down Chase and beat him bloody - give him a taste of his own medicine. "You don't have to be scared, Emily. I'll protect you from him," he murmured, squeezing her hand gently. He was containing his rage just because he didn't want to upset her or scare her, like Chase surely had to. He chewed on his lip for a moment before looking up to her. "Would you consider talking to police about it?" He asked, raising an eyebrow as he tilted his head to the side. That was step one in protection, right?

Emily moved over and left space for him. She wanted cuddles from her best friend and not have to worry about anything. "How?" She asked miserably. Her medicine was starting to kick in and make her woozy, but the pain stayed. She noticed the look on his face and knew he was pissed off. She didn't blame him. She was pissed off when Chase told her not to talk to him anymore. It had hurt and even more pissed her off knowing that her BOYFRIEND had said a thing like that to her. Like she was just a pet, or property. She shook her head hearing his question and looked horrified. "No." she whispered, and kept shaking her head.

Derek wrapped his arms around her shoulders, laying on his side and trying not to hurt her so he was trying to take up as little space as possible. He frowned when Emily said no and reached up to cup her cheek, rubbing his thumb back and forth gently. "Listen, I'll protect you. He won't touch you," he murmured, leaning to press a kiss to her forehead, a gentle smile on his lips. "I promise. ANd they can help, I won't let anything happen to you. Okay?" He spoke quietly, offering her an encouraging smile, not wanting her to be afraid to get help. All he wanted to do was help her and keep her safe because that was all she deserved.

Emily hugged him tightly and laid her head down on his chest and brought her legs up a little bit, not caring about the pain at the moment. She felt him cup her cheeks, glancing up at him eyes widened. While he moved his thumb, she relaxed slightly as she listened to him. "No...You yes, the police no.." She whispered and frowned. "I will tomorrow..just not now." She looked up at him and bit her lip and hugged him tightly and buried her face in his chest. After awhile she was asleep, a content look on her face. She didn't even hear Chase come back in the room with her clothes, she was so tired and worn out as well as her body was.

The moment that Emily started to drift off into sleep, Derek shuffled off of the bed so she could be more comfortable. All the while, he was still holding her hand. He had agreed not to tell the police yet just because she had agreed to do so tomorrow and he wanted her to be able to have a chance to relax. So when Chase came into the hospital room, it was the hardest thing ever for him not to snap at the bastard. It took every ounce of self control that he had. He sighed as he set his head down on the edge of the bed, not quite closing his eyes so he could still watch as Chase sat in the corner of the room on his phone, as if he didn't care at all about his girlfriend being in the hospital.

Emily was curled up underneath the blanket in the hospital room. Her breathing came in even lengths, every now and then a hiccup in her breathing occurred simply from her rib being cracked and all. It didn't cause much issues with her breathing, but it slightly altered the way she had to breath. Waking up later was excruciatingly painful for her. She gasped in pain, signaling that she was awake. She looked up at Derek since he was closer then to Chase. She flinched slightly, then calmed herself. She closed her eyes again, trying to moderate how much emotion she showed from how much pain she was actually in.

"Hey, Ems. You're okay," Derek murmured quietly as he reached forward to brush a strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear. He smiled a bit. Letting out a yawn, he reached to rub the sleep from his eyes. He had been refusing to sleep because he didn't want to leave Emily alone with Chase in the room - even if he would have physically been in the room. "Just breath," he murmured quietly, his fingers running along her hand to try and distract her, to help her relax. "The rib should heal within the next six to eight weeks, the doctor said," he said, feeling an anger swell in his chest at the thought of hr having to deal with that pain for so long.

Chase was watching them interact with narrowed eyes, gritting his teeth against the anger he was feeling. He didn't like how close Derek was getting to Chase but he couldn't very well do anything about it in public so he chose to just sit there quietly and occupy himself.

Emily heard him, glancing up to look up at him. Feeling him brush a strand of hair out of her face, she nodded. She saw him yawn and murmured, "Sleep. I'll be fine." She started to sit up and mumbled, "Chase, can you help me?" She didn't want Chase thinking anything was going on, when it was. She managed to sit up while listening to Derek. "Okay." She mumbled. "did they say I was allowed to change?" She asked Chase looking up at him. She was so small comparatively speaking. She actually was small compared to most every else. She gasped in pain as she was sitting up tears boiling to her eyes, threatening to overflow at any consecutive minute.

Derek's entire body tensed at the prospect of sleeping and perhaps, he would have been okay but at her next words, his eyes narrowed and his head snapped to the side to glare at Chase. "So help me God, if you even move out of the chair, you'll be in the room next to us," he snapped out before he could really think about what he had just said. he wasn't going to let her in a room with Chase by herself because he didn't want her hurt any more than she already was. "I can help you if you want," Derek murmured as he turned back around to her, raising an eebrow. "Or I can get a nurse to help you change," he offered to her.

Chase was now glaring at both Derek and Emily, having realised that her best friend must know what was going on. "You're a fuckin' whore. Just like I thought," he spat as he turned to stalk out of the room.

Emily's eyes widened as she heard Derek talk to Chase. Hearing Chase, she shook her head and finally screamed, "You're a fucking dick! LEAVE ME ALONE!" She started to cry extremely hard. She couldn't take this anymore. Gripping the blanket she was holding, she started to have trouble breathing and had tears falling down her face. "I"M NOT A WHORE!" She yelled again at him, this time unable to take it. "I'm not a whore." She whispered tears blinding her vision. She almost never cursed, but she just couldn't take all of it anymore. She couldn't take it. She cried into her hands feeling like she wanted to die. She sobbed as she did so, trying to stop, but they came anyways. She didn't care is Chase hated her crying or not, she continued to do so.

Derek had stood the moment that Chase started to speak and turned, blocking the boy's view of Emily. His hands were balled into fists and he hesitated, waiting for what the other was going to do. What Chase did all depended on what Chase did and he was thankful when the bastard just decided to leave the room. He turned around slowly and leaned down, setting his hands on Emily's cheeks gently. "Breath, Emily. Just. Breath with me, okay?" he whispered, exaggerating his breathing so she could focus on timing her breathing with his, trying to help her relax. Derek wiped away her tears, a frown on his face as he wondered if he should get a nurse or not.

Emily usually didn't yell either. She hated violence and cursing and yelling. She hated all of it! She saw his hands clenched into fists, waiting to see what Chase to do. She saw him just walk out of the room and felt him set his hands on her cheeks and breathed with him. She sniffled trying to stop crying and mumbled, "I did love him ya know...but I don't anymore." She raised her hands to hold onto Derek's. She set her forehead on his and closed her eyes as she started to calm down even more. She sniffed one last time and mumbled, "I think I should talk to the police before I change." She wiped at her nose and eyes.
