Max
It was his day off, but yet again he found himself drawn to his café. He couldn’t help it. It was his baby. Besides, Maddock had dropped quite a bomb on him! Mack, big, big, quiet, unapproachable, cat loving, Mack, had found his soulmate. And she didn’t seem put off by his silence at all. From the sound of it, if anything it only egged her on. He wasn’t sure what to think. Though he’d tried to hide it, Max could tell the big lump actually liked her from how uncharacteristically chatty he’d been. Of course, for Maddock, chatty involved whole sentences instead of occasional words. Max shook his head. He’d sent Maddock off to see Murel to possibly take her car shopping while he headed back to the café. Today he was dressed in black jeans and a jacket to fend off the cold. So it was when he walked in the café and café and caught sight of the woman at the bar, he suddenly wished he was in his silliest, girliest maid outfit fit the huge pink ribbons. ’No!’ He screamed at his imp, completely overwhelmed with desire for the strange woman. ’I’m gay! You can’t do this to me! I don’t want it!’
((Hmm….maybe a new neighbor? Or a neighbor she’s just never met? He’s noticed her, sees she has no car and offers a ride? I dunno?))

He snorted. That was a bit better, and about on par with what most people guessed. He didn’t really care how old people thought he was, but thirty? That was excessive! Glancing at his watch, he sighed. His lunch was coming to an end. He found himself wishing he had a few more minutes. Maddock tossed the last of his meal to the cats and stood, brushing off crumbs. With a grunt and a nod, he packed up his trash and headed off, the most acknowledgement he’d given yet.

He shook his head. “I’m definitely taking you home then,” he said, voice brooking no argument. Grabbing her hand, he gave her a wicked little grin and whispered, “Come on, let’s lose them!” He took off running, hauling her afterwards. He had plenty of experience outrunning paparazzi . Plus, he had an advantage. It was nighttime, and he could hide them in the shadows. He’d done it before, and no one had ever been any the wiser. Plus, he liked holding her hand.

Mark
“It’s not a date,” both brothers said simultaneously, and it was impossible to miss the way Maverick blanched at the thought.
“It’s not a date,” Mark repeated, more gently this time. “Go on, Maverick, go get ready. I’ll let you know when she’s here.” He shooed off his brother and turned to Tony.
“Maverick’s terrified of relationships,” he said, trying to explain without letting his protective temper get the better of him. “This Edna girl is the first person outside of the family he’s shown interest in since his bitch of a wife died. She messed him up badly.” He explained briefly how they’d had to take care of Maverick, trying to make her understand that though he was an adult, Maverick needed the care he received.

He hurried off to shower, running from the implications Mark’s soulmate had suggested. Edna was a friend. Just a friend. That was all. No more. He blasted the hot water, scrubbing off her words with the oil. It was a necessarily fast shower, but by the time Edna knocked on the door, he was dressed and ready, though his hair was still a bit damp.

“I’m sure,” he said. “You just pick your feet up and let me clean my damn apartment.” He grabbed the mop and bucket he rarely (read never) used and began to mop up the blood, along with years of grime caked on by numerous tenants. He hated the place, it was a real shithole, but it fit his cover. So he dealt. Plus, Mariah wasn’t the cleanest person either. It didn’t bother him as much as one might think.
