The Ghost of You

Piper sat in her room, digging through her bag as she tried to do her cigarettes. She had a rough day at work and she needed the nicotine ro unwind. Once she found her pall mall 100s she quickly lit once of the cigarettes up, inhaling the much needed nicotine into her lungs. She quickly finished off the cigarette, spraying her room with air freshen and body mist to make the air smell nix again. She didn't need her roommate yelling at her again especially since the guy was a dick about pretty much everything she did.

Matt wrinkled his nose at the smell of the cigarettes mixed with the citrus air freshener as he sat in the corner of Piper's room. He picked at his nails and sat back, tilting his head to the side slightly as he watched her start to undress. He thought she was one of the most beautiful girls he'd ever laid eyes on. She was perfect. Over the time she'd been renting this apartment, he'd managed to fall in love with her, which sucked on his part because there was nothing he could do about it.

Piper looked over her shoulder as she felt goosebumps form on her shoulders. She felt like someone was in the room with her. Once she was satisfied no one was she changed into an oversized band tee shirt and some pajama bottoms, pulling her hair into a messy ponytail before she left her room. Her roommate was in their shared living room with his on again off again girlfriend and he didn't look pleased. Liam stood up, leading Piper into the kitchen and quietly asked her to make Violet leave.

The brunette of course agreed since she technically owed Liam her half of the rent still and he promised they would be even if she did this. Piper walked into the living room, walking over to Violet who smelled strongly of weed and nudged her gently. "Violet you have to leave," she stated. "Liam and I have ro be at work in like five hours."

The blonde glared at Piper, standing up and punched her across the face. Violet began accusing Piper of sleeping with Liam and tried to swing at her. Liam quickly intervened, promising Piper he'd be back soon. He left to take Violet home, leaving the brunette utterly pissed her roommate psycho girlfriend swung at her yet again.

Matt frowned and he walked into the living room, standing next to Piper. "What a bitch," he mumbled. "You deserve better." He looked at her and reached up, gently touching her cheek that was red with heat. "I don't think it'll bruise." He sighed when she walked out of the living room, really wishing she could see him. It fucking sucked being alone. He was absolutely miserable. And to top it all off, he couldn't even leave this place to go see his family or anything. He didn't even know where his family was or what happened to them.

Piper felt a cool sensation on her cheek, frowning when it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. She walked into the kitchen and grabbed herself an ice pack, placing it on her face before she walked back into her room and pressed record on her take recorder. "December twenty sixth, two thousand and fourteen my life sucks and I still can't afford my own place. So to summarize my life as an adult so far it fucking sucks." She ended her recording and moved to lay on her bed. "I wish I could just disappear," she mumbled.

"Don't say that," Matt frowned, laying down next to her. He watched her for a minute, sighing softly. "Things will get better. I know it." He laid back and closed his eyes, yawning softly. "I'm tired, are you?" He looked over at her, as if he were waiting for an answer, but was disappointed when she didn't say anything. He looked at the tape recorder, thinking to himself. Maybe he could communicate with her through that.

"Maybe I just need to find a different roommate," Piper mumbled to herself. She ran her hands over her face and sighed. "Why the fuck did I leave Phoenix for this SoCal insanity?" She sat up in bed, grabbing her sketch book and began doodling whatever came to mind, just wanting to clear her thoughts of all the negative feelings she was having.

Matt watched her for a minute, biting his lip hard. He reached over and tried to use his energy to press a button on the recorder. He grinned when the button pushed down, and he thought for a second. "Piper," he murmured, not sure what to say to her.

Piper heard her recorder go on and looked at it to see the record button was pushed down. She set her drawing stuff aside and walked over to the small machine. She ended the recording, rewinding it and felt her whole body tense when she heard a man's voice saying her name. The brunette looked around the room, swallowing hard as she pressed the recording button down again. "Is someone in here with me," she asked.

"Yes," Matt said, looking at her hopefully. He could feel his heart swelling with the idea that after so many years, he was finally talking to someone. Somebody could hear him. He wasn't alone anymore.

Piper waited a minute before she stopped the tape recorder, playing it back and felt goosebumps form on her skin when she heard the man's voice say yes. "Did you die here," she asked. "What's your name?" She hit the record button again and waited.

"Matt," he said, stepping towards her. "Yes." He stood in front of her, looking at her and biting his lip. He wondered if she'd ever be able to see him or hear him for real. He had no idea how he'd even manage that.

Piper repeated her actions of rewinding the tape and listened to the man's answer. "Please tell me you weren't murdered," she mumbled.

"No," Matt said, shaking his head. "It was an accident." He could feel his energy draining the more he communicated with her, so he knew he'd have to keep his answers short. He sat down on the bed and looked up at her hopefully.

Piper listened to Matt's answer, chewing on her lip as she did. "I need to sleep but I promise I'll find a better way for us to communicate Matt." She laid down in her bed, getting under her covers falling asleep almost instantly when her head rested on her pillow.

Matt smiled to himself, glad that she wasn't completely freaked out by him. He laid down in bed next to her and watched her sleep for a while before he closed his eyes and just laid there.

Piper ended p waking up ten minutes before her alarm, deciding to start her normal morning route early and stripped naked so she could shower.

Matt opened his eyes and looked over at her, watching her and biting his lip gently. She was so beautiful and he just wanted so badly to be able to have her to himself.

Piper climbed in her shower, doing her usually twenty minute shower. When she finished she stood in front of the bathroom mirror, opening the cabinet inside of it and picked up a razor blade she had hidden there. She sat down on the toilet seat, looking from the blade to her wrist, thinking about ending it all with a long cut on her wrists.
