Endlessly

Ellie sighed contently as she sat up in one of the trees overlooking The Glade. It was the one place where she felt content, no matter what. Of course, her best friend, Newt called her a lemur. Newt. Newt had been Ellie's instant friend since the day she got to The Glade and they were inseparable.

Ellie shook her thoughts as she heard the familiar alarm go off. She looked up as everyone ran up to the box but she kept her position and watched from above.

Thomas woke up in the dark box and immediately started trying to find a way out. He had no idea how he got there or how to get out. The only thing he could recall was his name. He looked up quickly as light flooded the box and people crowding around it. He was pulled out of the box and welcomed to what this place was to referred as The Glade. He was almost in a stage of panic as he darted for some place to hide.

Newt looked up at Ellie, arching an eyebrow as he leaned against the tree she was sitting in. He opened his mouth to say something, but got interrupted by the siren that announced supplies - and a Greenie today. "Sorry to leave you hanging, Lemur, but looks like our new Greenie's here," he called up with a smile. Pushing off the tree, he made his way to the box. Before long, the Greenie was off, running - which wasn't necessarily a surprise.

Alice stood next to Alby as she watched everything play out. "It's been a while since somebody tried to run away," she hummed out with amusement. "You did it, too. Kindred spirits," Alby told the girl, earning a rough nudge from her before they followed after the boy and, though Alby was quick about it, Alice took her time.

Ellie watched the greenie dart past her tree and she sighed before hopping down. She saw Alice and Alby go towards the boy so, she opted the other direction. Ellie quickly saw Newt shooing everyone off towards their jobs before heading towards the garden. "Some greenie, right?" she asked him as she caught up.

Thomas ran behind a tree and sat there to catch his breath. What was this place? Who were these people? As if on cue, he heard footsteps and got up to run only to be faced with a dark haired girl. "Who are you? Where am I?"

Newt nodded his agreement and looked over at her. "Right," he agreed before nudging her. "He'll get used to it here, like we all did." Alby usually helped them all adjust, after all. And they were always afraid at first, but that was to be expected, considering the only thing they ever remembered was their name. "Let's get to work, shall we?"

"Name's Alice," Alice greeted in a sing-song voice before she leaned against the tree the boy had previously been hiding behind. "You're not very good at hiding, did you know that?" Not that it mattered; she wasn't very good at welcoming people here, honestly. "You're in the Glade, Greenie. Welcome home."

Ellie smiled and nodded as she followed him to the garden to dig new fence posts. Ellie wasn't a dainty girl. She always earned her keep, sometimes more than most of the boys. Of course, that meant any job in the Glade could be hers but she preferred being with Newt. She wasn't really close with most of the Gladers except Newt, Alby, and maybe Alice. So, she enjoyed his company.

Thomas looked towards her and sighed deeply. He couldn't wrap his head around this new place. Why was he sent here? All he wanted to do was run but he knew that would be a waste considering that Alice is in front of him and he was pretty sure there was someone in the tree line. "What's the Glade?"

Newt was grateful for Ellie's help, honestly; it made things much easier for himself and others. Still, he wondered if she really liked helping with this or if she would have preferred to help with one of the other chores around the Glade. He didn't ever really ask, for fear that she might decide that this wasn't what she wanted to do. "Think we'll have this done by the time we have the celebration for the Greenie's arrival?" he questioned, mostly just wanting to make conversation with her.

Alice arched an eyebrow, not entirely sure how to answer his question. Eventually, she shrugged and sighed. "We don't really know, I suppose," she decided, "We all get sent here by the Creators, though. We don't know why, either, so don't bother asking." The questions he asked were pretty much the usual, so it was easy to guess what questions he might ask, too; it was a re-run of every other shank when they first got there, including herself.

Ellie smiled at him. She knew that he was trying to cover up the silence. He always did. "Yeah, I think will be finished in plenty time." Ellie looked at the work they had cut out for them and her smile grew. The job wasnt hard and if they worked hard enough, they'd be done in an hour. "Newt?"

Thomas nodded, brushing off her blunt attitude. He was pretty calm by now and he felt that whatever he was here for was for a reason. "So, can you explain to me what goes on here?" He asked, hoping it wasn't too bad of a question.

Newt nodded, figuring she had a point. They didn't have much to do today, after all. He blinked several times and looked over at her. "Yeah?" he questioned before arching an eyebrow. "Is something wrong? Or is something just on your mind?"

"Easy," Alice told him with a grin. "We work. Chores and such. Whatever we're good at, we do, be it farming or building or anything, really." She lifted her shoulders in a slight shrug. "We're basically a family here, I guess. We do whatever it takes to survive."
