    Teacher don't you see?
Don't wanna be no uptown fool
Maybe I should go to hell but I am doing well
Teacher needs to see me after school
I think of all the education that I've missed

But then my homework was never quite like this

Matt ran his fingers through his short hair as he sat in the kitchen of his home, drinking a hot cup of coffee. It was only five in the morning, but he hadn't had a good night's rest at all. Val had made him sleep on the couch for the past couple weeks until they figured out all this divorce stuff, and then she could leave and he'd have his bed back for good. His back was aching like a bitch and he was extremely tired. It wasn't going to be a good day, he already knew that. He had dark circles under his eyes and he was almost lethargic as he attempted to stand up after finishing his coffee. He rinsed his mug out in the sink and trudged upstairs, grabbing some clothes out of his closet and walking into the bathroom, shutting the door and locking it so he could have some privacy and wouldn't have to worry about Val walking in. He turned the shower on and undressed, looking at himself in the mirror, reaching up to rub his eyes. "Shit," he cursed under his breath, shaking his head. What was his life coming to? He woke up every morning wishing that he hadn't. It sucked.

"Evelyn! Get your damn ass out of bed so you can make breakfast for me!" Evelyn heard her dad shout from downstairs, causing her to roll her eyes in pure annoyance that she had to deal with this on her very first day of her new high school, "Did you not hear me, bitch?!"

"I said I'm coming!" she yelled back, forcing herself out of bed and heading to the wardrobe to pick out what she wanted to wear for school today.

Ever since Evelyn's drug-addict mother left her to rot with her demanding alcoholic father who did nothing but do construction work and sat on his ass all day, things have been total shit for the young teen. Lucky for her, she would find ways to make money by giving tattoos at a good cost to those who really want one. An old friend of Evelyn's was an owner of a tattoo shop and got her in almost immediately because of her supposedly "good art skills". Either way, she was thankful that he did so because that turned out to be her only source of money and hope to get her out of the house she was imprisoned in as soon as she can in the near future.

Putting on a blue tank top with black jeans, some styled black combat-boots to go with it, and a 'Misfits' hoodie to add with it, Evelyn then grab her backpack and headed downstairs to get breakfast going, along with her possible hopes to getting her father off her damn back.

Fuck, I always hated this, Evelyn thought bitterly, I can't wait to get to school already so I can deal with even more bullshit..

Then again to Evelyn's own knowledge, the only thing she ever liked school about was English and the library. It was her only way out besides tattooing.

[Did you want me to do first person too?]

Matt looked down when he felt his phone begin to vibrate in his pocket, fishing it out and seeing that Val was calling. He stared at her name for a split second before he ignored the call. He would just pretend to be busy, so he didn't have to hear her bitch at him for something he did wrong again. He didn't feel like he did anything wrong ever, but apparently, he was just a big fuck-up, and everything he did was a mistake. He'd dedicated most of his teen years to Val. She had been his best friend since they were in grade school, and he'd fallen in love with her in high school. They'd gotten married a few years ago, and ever since then, things had began to fall apart, and now they were here, getting a divorce. He'd never thought in a million years that he'd ever have to go through a divorce. He'd always been the kind of person that pictured himself having a good career, settling down with a wife and having a few children. But now that it had gotten to this point, he wasn't even sure where his life was going. What was the purpose of anything anymore?

After finally having a somewhat brutal hour of getting breakfast ready and having her father finally leave her be for possibly the rest of the day until dinner, Evelyn snacked on an apple before throwing it away, grabbing her backpack and coffee, and then making her way out the front door into the warm, humid air of Huntington Beach, California. Already she could tell that this day was going to be quite hell on her part. She just hope that it would end quickly so she could head right on home and remain isolated in her room as always.

If only I had the luxury of possibly having friends here like I did back in my hometown near San Diego, Evelyn thought with a prolonged sigh as she continued to move forward down the main sidewalks that lead to the school.

Once she entered through the loud main halls of the high school rather reluctantly, Evelyn could see some eyes look over at her with either confusion, curiosity, and at times, even disgust. She always hated being stared at whenever she ended up new somewhere, especially at a school.

Evelyn let out a sigh of true relief when she noticed that her locker was located near the corner of the wall so she could have more space from the annoyance of other students. She hated whenever they come up and pile her on with questions on her tattoos or of what she wore. It was a painful situation she constantly had to deal with by just ignoring it.

"Oh, the very steamy English teacher just arrived," Evelyn heard a cheerleader whisper right near her with fits of giggles, her eyes soon turning to see who it was, "God, he is so hot. Perfection is right there all over him."

Evelyn wasn't intrigued by 'hot teachers' at times but she did notice something...peculiar about this one teacher that just started walking past her. He seemed incredibly exhausted and yet, he always gave a polite smile to the girls nearby. It was starting to make her wonder if this man was her actual Senior English teacher by the looks of his 'Advanced Literature' book he was carrying.

Matt walked into his classroom and set his things down, letting out a breath as he sat down at his computer, rubbing his face. He sipped on his coffee and began going through his personal e-mails on his phone before class started. He was curious to see if he'd gotten any e-mails from his lawyer about the divorce, and of course, there wasn't any good news just yet. He put his phone in his pocket and turned on his computer, signing into the school's server and then skimmed over his business and work e-mails. There were a few from the guidance counselor and other english teachers, but not much since school really hadn't started just yet. He looked up when the bell rang and thanked the lord because now he would have something to occupy himself with instead of worrying about his personal life.

According to her schedule, Evelyn had Advanced Literature for her second class. Now the heat was rising to her cheeks at the very thought of actually having that teacher as her mentor for this class. After all, she was only able to get in because of her very high literature scores. It was the only class that actually made her feel worthy for schooling.

After the first period of class, which was World History, Evelyn made her way to Advanced Literature right down the hall. Taking in a deep breath, Evelyn entered the classroom that already had a group of girls sitting in the front row as being the first to arrive. They all...stared at her with weird, harsh looks that already made Evelyn feel uncomfortable. Knowing they were in the front, she decided to move to the very back of the class. It was always best for her to get as less much attention from the class as possible, especially to a rather hot teacher that she seemed way too shy about.

Matt waited for all the students to file in and choose seats before he stood up and shut the door. He'd already written his name up on the chalkboard in large caps: Mr. Sanders. He grabbed a paper from his desk and looked at his students. "Everybody stand up," he said. "I've pre-made a seating chart for the first semester of this class. Once we all get to know each other, after winter break, you will be able to choose where you sit. But for now, I want you to come find your seats on the chart."

    (It's okay :) )

Fucking great, of course the teacher has to pull this shit, Evelyn sighed in pure annoyance, hoping to god that she wasn't going to be forced to the front of the class, But yet knowing my bad luck, I might be sitting right in front of him. Fuck my damn day.

"I want you here," Sanders pointed out before going to Evelyn with slight hesitation in his decision, "And you, I want you to be in the front desk at the very edge over here. You seem to like the back desks so it wouldn't hurt for some change in your seating."

More like I can give you a fucking foot up the ass for doing this to me, Evelyn thought bitterly before snatching her things and reluctantly moving to the front of the class.

Ignoring some whispered made about her, Evelyn clenched her jaw and sat in her seat, slouching in her chair after getting her materials out. Already, she wasn't starting to like this teacher much, considering that she was placed on the "deathrow" (the seating where she can become the deadly target for attention from her 'enemies').

Once everyone was settled in their seats, Matt set the seating chart down and walked over the back of the classroom, stacking books onto a table and beginning to pass them down the rows of desks. Once they were all passed out, he had everyone tell him the number on the inside of the cover of the book and wrote them down so if one was lost, he knew who was responsible. Then, he began to hand out his syllabus. He really hated the first day of school, because it was a bunch of handing things out and it was just tedious work. But luckily, he never typically gave homework out on the first week, so he wouldn't have to worry about that until the next week.

Slouching in her seat rather shyly towards the teacher, Evelyn let out a long frustrated sigh while gazing down at the syllabus in her hands with Mr. Sander's sexy voice going on in the background, something she simply could not ignore for some odd reason.

"Alright, since it is the first day, maybe we can go around the room and introduce each other," Sanders instructed that made some heat go to Evelyn's cheeks from slight nervousness, "Why don't we start...with you."

Evelyn looked up to see Matt's hand gesturing to her, causing her to bite lightly on her inner cheek to hold back a few words of hatred for him somehow wanting to place the attention on a quiet person such as herself. She definitely was not in the mood to hear the dreadful words from the skanks in the back.

"Um, my name is Evelyn," she cleared her throat, "I am a new student here from Northern California and I am very much a person for English. I love to read and write a lot, along with learning from my English courses. And I plan to be...um...a writer someday possibly, with maybe having my own tattoo shop. That's all there is from me, nothing interesting."

Matt couldn't help but smile as he listened to what she had to say. Nothing interesting? She was absolutely interesting, to him. "That sounds interesting to me," he said, leaning against his desk and crossing his arms over his chest. He heard one of the girls in the back muttering something and he raised an eyebrow as he looked to see who it was. It was Emily Daniels. He knew her because he'd had her boyfriend in this class last year, and the two would stand outside the door, making out until the bell rang. He cleared his throat and looked directly at her. "Is there something you need to say, Emily?" he questioned.

The girl looked at Mr. Sanders and forced a smile on her face. "No, sir," she said, and once he looked away, she cut her eyes at Evelyn before huffing and slouching back in her seat. She already hated this girl and it was the first day of school.

Evelyn smiled when the teacher actually made one of the snobby girls look bad in the class, something that she doesn't always see in an everyday classroom in this building. Even though Sanders forced her to sit up front, she had a feeling that maybe this was made to be something good instead of bad. Maybe this teacher is interested in her knowledge of English and her hobbies alone. Just by the look of some of the tattoos that were visible from his thick white sleeves of his shirt, Evelyn could tell that he definitely liked the fact that she was a tattoo artist.

After going through the last amount of people with introductions, Mr. Sanders gave Evelyn a small smile before turning to look over in his agenda of what was going on for the rest of the class period, "Alright, I'm going to give out your first assignment, which is reading the introduction to the book and also, write a one-page paper about yourself so that I can read it the next day. I know we went through some introductions but I bet it would be a better successful class if I knew every one of you, right?"

Evelyn nodded, interested in telling him more about herself in this assignment more than she thought. Something was fascinating about this teacher and she wanted to find out a lot more of him besides being the professor he is.

Matt smiled at the class. "You may get started on your rough drafts now," he said, hoping that they all knew the proper form of a short essay. He sat down and tucked away the seating chart, knowing that for right now, he wouldn't need to make any changes. But he was having a feeling he might have to separate some of the girls in the back a bit further from each other. But he knew for sure that he was keeping Evelyn in the front, because he was really interested in her as an individual, and as a student, as well. He had a feeling that she was super intelligent, and she didn't let the stereotype that she had tattoos impact that.

I guess there is more to liking this teacher than I thought, Evelyn thought to herself with great hope in her heart, I hope he teaches those bitches a lesson during class.

Writing down more on her rough draft, Evelyn wanted to make sure that her writing and what she was writing was actually interesting to Mr. Sanders. Of course she wasn't going to lie about everything but she did go on and on about her tattoo shop experience and the stories she had with doing tattoos. Just by the sleeves of art that he had under his long-sleeved button up white shirt, Evelyn knew that he would very much enjoy what she had to say about tattoo art. She even went on about her bad experiences with home and everything and how she really pushes through with good writing, along with reading. Evelyn sighed in thought of hoping this essay will be good for him to read when it is finalized to printing format.

    [Sorry! I totally missed this!]

Matt sat in his desk and began working on the rest of his calendar for October. He'd already gotten September done the week before school started, and he was nearly done with October, and then he'd be able to start writing down November's events. He was actually surprised at how silent it was in the classroom, aside from the soft whispers coming from the back of the classroom. It was that way until the bell rang, and he stood up, smiling at his students. He looked directly at the group of girls in the back. "I can't wait to read your essays," he said. "I hope you've put a lot of effort into them because I would hate to have to give you an F on your first assignment." He watched his students file out of the classroom and sighed softly, sitting back down. He had fourth and sixth period free, so those were going to be his planning hours.

(Sorry it took so long to respond! I was having a rough school week)

Once Evelyn gave Mr. Sanders her paper, she couldn't help but feel a slight blush on her cheeks when their eyes met. Yes, it was never her thing to have a semi-crush on the teacher, but after the way he stood up to the girls from the back in order to defend her, it was something Evelyn really appreciated. So, maybe it was the chance to actually get to know a teacher more since she was new to this school?

She definitely didn't want to deal with the bad crowd at lunch.

"Hey...um...Mr. Sanders?" Evelyn asked, waiting until everyone was out of the room before speaking to him, "I honestly...don't feel comfortable with sitting in the cafeteria and I barely know this place to begin with, along with me not looking forward to just sitting alone awkwardly. Mind if I...stop by and have lunch with you? If you don't find that weird that is..."

Matt smiled softly at her. "No, of course not," he said. "You're always welcome to drop by whenever you want." He reached down and wrote her a pass to allow her to have lunch with him since some of the teachers could be strict at lunch time about where students had to be. He looked up at her and handed her the slip of paper. "It's a pass. Should allow you to come here from the cafeteria once you get your lunch." He smiled brightly at her. "I look forward to reading your paper. I think you may be one of the most interesting students I've had so far." He had to stop himself from rambling on so she could get to her next class. He didn't want to hold her up.

After many other classes that passed by that were quite boring for Evelyn, it was now the moment she was surprisingly able to be looking forward to: having lunch with Mr. Sanders.

Walking into the crowded cafeteria that was loud from the constant chattering, Evelyn swallowed hard at the sight of those girls from class looking at her with evil glares from a table nearby. She could only ignore them as she got in line and grabbed a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of fruit and chocolate milk.

Once she paid it off with the cashier, Evelyn quickly made her way through the cafeteria, showed the pass to the hall monitor, and casually made it to Mr. Sanders' classroom with relief. He was sitting in his seat reading what looked like her essay, causing her to heat up a bit.

"I'm...here," she said softly with a knock on the doorframe.

Mr. Sanders smiled and gestured her to come sit down at the chair in front of the desk, "Sit there."

"Thank you," she smiled, walking right over there without hesitation, "You pretty much saved me from getting murdered from those girls from class. They were glaring at me like crazy cats ready to tear me apart..."
