Does anybody else play the clarinet? How long have you been playing? Why did you start? ect.
I play the clarinet for my school marching band! Well, I just started. I switched from percussion to clarinet just this week. It's fun so far. I'm catching on easily. I just needed a change of heart. <3
I've never played this yet, but my favorite piece to listen to is the main theme from Transformers. Thats what the band's working on now.

I've played clarinet for ten years. I really enjoy it. I played in my elementary school, middle school and high school bands and also attended International Music Camp for a total of nine sessions. :D

I used to play clarinet. I joined band in sixth grade, tried to play all of the instruments, but clarinet was all I could make a sound on XD Anyway, I played it through tenth grade; I was always either first or second chair, so I guess I was pretty good. But while I love concert band, which is all we did in middle school, I very much dislike marching band. It just did not agree with me; I don't like football or attending the games, and I got sick a lot, so I ended up quitting band after tenth grade. I found out later that clarinet was actually killing my jaw, actually ::rofl: I have TMJ so apparently the clarinet was bad for my jaw. I'm teaching myself to play piano now though! It's better for me.

    @ beautiful monotony

How was it killing your jaw? I never knew that instruments were dangerous!

I'm liking it a lot, actually. It's one of the few instruments used in concert band that I can actually stand listening to by itself. And I absolutely love the wud array of sounds it can make! From light and frolic-y to dark and menacing, just a few keys apart. I've become oddly fascinated with Dvorak's The Planets because of that.

I absolutely love concert band! I haven't really tried marching band yet, besides a few parades, but I'm taking it as a class next year. That, I can't wait for. We do other things besides football games. My schools marching band actually goes on to preform at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and Disney. That's always fun, and probably what I'm looking forward to the most.

Haha just playing the clarinet for about an hour would make my jaw hurt. I was constantly popping it or chewing gum to try and make it feel better. I haven't played in two years and my jaw rarely gives me problems anymore.

I'm glad you're liking it!! At my school, in middle school, it was all concert. Then, once you were in high school, you did marching until mid-November, then you prepared for the Christmas Concert/Parade, then after Christmas break, you were in concert season. You prepared for Festival and then for Spring Concert, and after spring concert, there was nothing to do unless they decided to start preparing stand tune's for next year's marching season. So I didn't get a choice of what I was doing in band xD I would've stayed in band if I had a choice of whether or not to do marching

I used to play the clarinet. I started when I was in 7th grade and went until the end of my sophomore year of high school. Which in middle school all we did was concert band, uh we marched in the local Christmas parades. Then I did concert band in high school and I loved it! My favorite part was actually our Christmas concert. Because we played How The Grinch Stole Christmas every year and the clarinet part was my favorite XD. I also did marching band freshman and sophomore year. I really liked marching band actually. It was hard a lot of hard work, but it always paid off in the end. Plus I really enjoyed all the competitions we went to I hated attending all the home football games because I can't stand football, but that was about it. Honestly, it was so much fun and some of my favorite memories from high school were while I was in band!

I play clarinet. I played back in middle school (from when I was 11 to 13, now I'm 24). My class had some performances, I played for the talent show, we were recorded for some actors in our school's production of The Music Man to pretend-play, and we marched in a parade. I haven't played in eleven years, but my ex-roomie gave me her clarinet. I'm going to get back into playing once I get around to having it get looked at, because I think there's something up with it. Every time I blow into the mouthpiece, the thing won't play, and I'm pretty sure I've got the reed positioned correctly.

I miss playing, and since my boyfriend plays violin and wants to start playing it again, I think it'd be fun for us to play together. We play bass (him more than me) and I feel like we connect on a deeper level than usual when we play music together. It's had to explain, you'd just have to experience it for yourself.

I started playing clarinet in sixth grade. I continued to play that in middle school and high school band up until sophmore year. After that, I just played saxophone. Wink I enjoy the sound over a clarinet.
Originally, I wanted to play saxophone, but I was worried I wouldn't make a sound, so I chose clarinet instead. But now I've finally switched. I had to learn enough in one summer to play with the high school jazz band, though. 30 minutes a day almost killed me.
