CLOSED TO MORE AUTHORS
I've never made a group write post before, so try to bear with me.
I find a lot of random story prompts and ideas on Pinterest and recently I came across an idea that I thought would be pretty cool but I wanted to see if I could get a few more people in on it.
The premise is a group of teenagers discover they have superpowers, but they hate them because their powers are somehow ironic or the opposite of the character's personality/life. The examples given were a girl who is the daughter of a fisherman, lives by the ocean and swims everyday and discovers she can control fire. A boy who's terrified of heights finds he can use anti-gravity. A girl who was bitten by a dog as a child and is terrified of dogs can suddenly communicate with them.
Those were just ideas in the prompt, but feel free to make up your own character and power if none of those strike your fancy. I'd like to get 2-4 other people in on this idea if anyone is interested. We can work out characters, plot line, title, etc if/when people join up.
Remington "Remy" Ansari
Age: 19
Remy is shy and reserved. In high school, he only had one friend and was essentially invisible to everyone else, which was fine with him. He didn't care much for other people. Remy also has a problem with going after what he wants even though he's very smart, he doesn't know what he wants to do in life. This probably stems from the fact that his parents died in a house fire when he was young and never really had someone to push him to do something. After his parents died (I'm thinking when he was like 6 or 7) he also became shy and reserved in fear of losing people close to him. He was taken in by his aunt who was already a mother to two girls, whom he loves like sisters. Additionally, he's never been able to get the fire that killed his parent's out of his head. He sees it when he's dreaming or daydreaming or when he sees someone light a cigarette.
His power is being able to engulf his whole body in flames (is there a shorter word for this?????) and manipulate it to his will.
And I also want a romantic interest for him, I can either make one up or it can be one of your guys' characters
Annie Kizer
Age: 19
Annie is going to school to become an oncologist and she develops the ability to sense when someone near her is going to die, and spirits/ghosts/general things of the world of the dead are drawn to her like a magnet. She ends up having to drop her major and suffers a mild breakdown when her powers emerge. She'll have to hone her power as the story goes on because at first she has no off switch for it and can't keep dead things from following her around. As she begins to master it she'll be able to summon and commune with spirits at will. She's extremely smart; she graduated high school at 16. She was rigorous in her studies because she had a younger sister who died from leukemia, so she never had a lot of friends or much of a social life, but she's outspoken and sarcastic. She will have a love interest; also either made up or one of the other characters you guys come up with.
Hollace Knighting.
Age: 20
Hollace was a pretty outgoing, fun-loving guy when he was younger, but during his freshman year of high school (about fourteen years old at the time), he lost his right leg in a car accident. Despite going to physical therapy and learning how to walk with a prosthetic, he remains a pretty angry guy and whenever he opens his mouth, he sort of comes off as a asshole. In college, Hollace learns that he has the ability to run at super speeds and plans to use the power for the best. However, any time he runs, it causes him pain, therefore reminding him of what he lost.
Side note: because of the accident, he more than likely suffers from PTSD, resulting in nightmares/flashbacks.
I say he's sort of an asshole, but once he opens up, he's loyal and has a kind heart. I'm not positive about love interests.
edit: I figured that he probably has some bad habits to cope with his loss, so one of them will be smoking which will easily affect Remy. So there's a way in for those scenes as well as some nice bickering between the two.
Esther Kurtz.
Age:20
Esther is sort of awkward and her social skill are proof of that. All her life she has lived in an Amish community. Her education was limited to reading, writing, and basic math the rest of her core curriculum was domestic teachings. As an Amish female she knows what her life is destined to be. She is to marry and have as many childern as she can possible have. Thats where her off beat personality comes in. She doesn't want that but doesn't know how to get out. As an Amish citizen her life has never had any form of power and she has heard horror stories of the internet, electricity, cars. It's unnerving. But when her father gets deathly sick and can't be treated by an Amish standard doctor so she takes him to the only building that has modern technology and discovers that she shorts everything out on contact and can make electricity jump and flow through her hands.
I was thinking she would be a little naive and bland. She will probably have culture shock.
Beau Boudreux
NAME:
Beau Boudreaux
SUPERPOWERS:
Telepathy, telekinesis
AGE:
19
ORIGIN OF HIS POWERS:
searching around his father's old things in a box on the basement, Beau found a wooden box which, as soon as he opened it, began to burn his hands. Now he bears an unknown mark on the palm of his hand, and also the burden of telepathy. Later on, telekinesis, the ability to unlock minds and even, if careless, possession.
BACKSTORY:
Born and Bred in New Orleans and from a Cajun family, Beau was a happy child, even when tragedy repeatedly struck his family. At summer vacation, after his Freshmen year in college, Beau finds a few old boxes of his father's in the basement. This is when he acquires his powers, and his mother tells him that his father came from a line of Cajuns that didn't treat voodoo witches very nicely, and they cursed their line with the burden on too-powerful abilities. The box he touched kept his powers encased, but when he opened, they unleashed and went back to him, along with his sister's. The voices he hears, that someones don't belong to anyone, come in his sister's voice. His next year of college begins nicely, since his mother was able to encase a portion of his newly acquired powers inside the box once more, and gave him a brew to keep them at bay. On the long run, it turns to be so much more complicated than just a few herbs...
And if he can become the villain, it'd be a gradual, very dark turn from how happy and optimistic he is to the untrusting, negative asshole he turns into. It'd be above all about his telepathy, and how everyone thinks, how nobody is a good person and all that. That's the irony: how he used to love people and be loved by then and finding out they're not what he thought.
