Mikkie nodded softly, "That sounds perfect," he said softly. He took her hand and lead her back into the shore. He picked up their towels.

Laila grinned helping him grab their things. They got into her car and drove to the pier. Laila slipped on a dress over her bathing suit before they got out of the car. She slipped on sandals and walked over to Mikkie handing him his shirt. She grinned and kissed his cheek before taking his hand and heading down the pier.

Mikkie followed behind her, glad her mind was occupied by something else. He smiled gently, as she drove them to the pier, then walked with her down the pier.

He found a place that looked like a decent place to get something to eat, and made his way over to a table.

Laila smiled staying close to Mikkie. They weren't alone anymore and this was a little more scary for her. She walked with him to a little shop and ordered a bread bowl with clam chowder before moving to a picnic table and sitting with Mikkie.

Mikkie held her hand lightly and kept close to her. He looked at her, "Relax beautiful, it'll be fine, I won't let you get hurt again," he said softly.

Laila nodded and frowned. Was she that transparent? They weren't even back on campus yet. She laced her fingers with Mikkie and bit her lip.It wasn't long before their food came and she dug in slowly relaxing.

Mikkie smiled softly and sat with her. He held her hand, "it'll get better," he said lightly. He lifted her hand kissing it.

Laila smiled softly and nodded. "Thanks Mikkie I hope you are right." she said softly.

It had been almost a month since the incident and Laila had been forcing herself to go to classes. She had finally talked with the school dean and the police. She wasn't pressing charges on Chris but she was with the boys that that drugged her. Things where slowly progressing and she was relying on Mikkie at every turn. It was their anniversary night and Laila had slowly beed working up to sleeping with Mikkie again but since she was planning on it tonight she had been tracking her cycle only to find a problem.

Laila came home and rushed into he bathroom leaving Mikkie out in the living room. She had been quiet and jumpy all day in a different way than she had been. She looked worried and yet kept saying she was fine. Which was not like her. Laila didn't keep secretes from Mikkie, even when she felt dumb for needing his help again in a crowd. Something about tonight was different.

Mikkie had been beginning to feel better, Lila had been feeling better as well. He had split his time between studies and caring for Lila.

Things had come back to normal, and he was thankful that it was their anniversary night coming up. He planned on cooking her a lovely meal, and spending the night outside looking at the stars. He had just finished prepping up dinner, and moved to the living room to take a break, when Lila rushed past him and into the bathroom, without even saying hello.

He sighed, feeling concerned about her, he moved to the bathroom door, and called out to her, "What's wrong Lila, I know you're not fine, please talk to me," he said.

Laila sighed as Mikkie knocked on he door. She bit her lip not knowing how to tell him. She watched the stick that sat on the counter now waiting for the results. Laila bit her lip harder looking at the door. “I just need 5 minutes! She yelled and hung her head looking up at the ceiling. When the time was up she looked at the stick and her heart fell. The pregnancy test read positive. Laila shook her head and read the directions again. She thought it over and realized the timing was just right to that night. It could be even more complicated. She had to take it again. Laila stashed the stick and came out of the bathroom going to the kitchen and filling up a huge water bottle before starting to drink it.

Mikkie gave her a moment, going back to the lounge and sitting down. When she came back out of the bathroom, he was sitting anxiously on the couch, playing with his shirt. He looked up at her, "Is everything okay?" he asked her. He looked worried, and concerned.

He moved over on the couch, "please talk to me, what's going on?" he asked.

Laila looked at him with worried eyes. She didn’t know what to say. She was hardly keeping it together. It had to be a false pausative. She was just starting to get her life back together. “I will but not now.” She finally said and took the water and headed back into the bathroom. She pulled out her phone as she sat knowing she needed to ask. She already knew but she needed to ask. Laila called Chris. When he picked up the phone her nerves jumped in. “Hi Chris... can we talk a moment?” She asked him. Once it was quieter on his end she heard him ask what was wrong. She sighed. “On that night... did... did you pull out?” She asked and listened to the silence on the other end for a long while before he answered her. “Laila... I don’t think I did but I think you would remember better. What is going on? Are you... do you think you’re...?” He couldn’t finish the sentence and she shook her head. “I have to call you back.” She said and hung up on him taking the second test.

Mikkie was getting more worried, she was acting far stranger than usual. He tried to give her space, and time, but his mind was racing with all sorts of dark thoughts. He got up and headed to the bathroom door after about ten minutes. He knocked on the door, "Laila, please talk to me, what's wrong?" he asked softly through the door. He was nervously sweating, and playing with the hem of his shirt.

Laila had been in the middle of a historical cry when Mikkie knocked again. She hushed herself the tears streaming down her face. She shook her head as he spoke through the door. This was going to change everything and she didn’t want it to. The doorbell rang and there was a hurried knocking at the door. It was several minutes later there was another knock more quiet on the bathroom door and Chris’s voice came through. “Open the door let me see the test.” He said having filled Mikkie in on what he knew. Laila stood and splashed some water on her face. She took the tests and opened the door. The boys stepped back and she handed one to each of them. “I’m pregnant.” She choaked out and looked down. “And I don’t know who the father is.” She sobbed tears pouring down her face again.

Mikkie was tense, more tense than usual. He still hadn't forgiven Chris, and this situation was making his feelings worse. He looked at Laila gently, and stepped forward placing a hand on her shoulder, "we'll work this out okay," he said softly. He pulled her into a hug, "I'm here for you, no matter what," he whispered in her ear.

He was in shock, and would take some time to process things, and had a bunch of questions he needed to ask Laila, but he didn't want to ask them in front of Chris.

Laila let Mikkie pull her into a hug and she started to cry letting it all come out into his shoulder shaking with the strength of her sobs. She was finally getting better and now this. What was she going to tell her parents. Would she even be able to finish her degree? Babies where expensive how was she going to afford this? Would Mikkie really stay with her if the baby wasn't his? She clung to Mikkie because she was scared of letting go.

Mikkie held her close, and continued to reassure her. He wasn't going to let something as small as this ruin their time together. He kissed her neck lightly, "We'll work everything out" he said.

Chris was standing there, still freaking out. "Wait how do we figure out who's it is?" he asked softly. He was fiddling with his shirt. He wasn't ready to be a father yet.

Laila nodded and sighed. She believed in Mikkie and she was scared but she trusted him. Chris asked his question and she frowned and looked over at him. "Why does it matter?" she asked him. "You can't before the baby is big enough and I am not going to get it tested before it's even born." she said and narrowed her eyes then shook her head turning and heading into her room slamming the door.

Mikkie frowned and tried to follow behind her, this situation was foreign to him, but he wanted to check Laila was okay. He knocked on the door gently, "Laila, do you want me to make Chris leave?" he asked softly.

Chris was still stunned, and had barely moved, "I just want to be sure, I can't raise a baby that isn't mine," he stuttered. He looked up at Mikkie after Laila had left, "how are you so cool with this?" he asked.

Laila opened the door looking angry and tears streaming down her face. "No you know what!" she stopped down the hall and poked a finger in Chris's chest. "This is your fault I even have to wonder who's kid it is anyways so either you can man up and deal with it or leave you selfish asshole! And don't think for a second if it is your kid and you leave right now you will ever see the kid again!" she said and turned around to her room and slammed the door. Laila tossed herself to the bed and started to cry again. She couldn't deal with this. Her entire world was ruined. She had to figure things out. How could she afford a kid right now and deal with all of this? It made her feel crazy. She couldn't be a mom, not really.
