Savannah sighed as she put out her cigarette. Smoking was a huge stress-reliever for her, so she did it despite her parents' disapproval. She crumpled up the empty pack of cigarettes and threw it into the backseat of her jeep before climbing out, pocketing her keys. It was Saturday, which meant she was meeting her parents and sister at the country club for their weekly lunch. That's what her parents considered it be, anyway; to Savannah it was just several hours of listening to her parents interrogate her about her lackluster love life. It seemed to be their sole purpose in life to marry her off to someone, much like they had done with her sister.

When are you going to find someone nice and get married?

So-and-so graduated from Yale and now he works for his father's law firm. You should get to know him!

It was constant, and as much as Savannah loved her parents, it drove her crazy. Especially since her parents were incredibly picky about their eldest daughter's future husband.
"Well fuck," Zacky sighed, watching as his friend Matt sent a golf ball sailing straight onto the green. It landed in the perfect spot, just about fifty yards away from the hole, with a straight path straight to it. Meanwhile, Zacky's golf ball was somewhere in the sand trap to their left, and he had yet to go retrieve it. "I don't know why I even play with you, you always win."

"Because I work here and can sneak you in to play on an actual green?" Matt replied grinning. Zacky shrugged his shoulders. He was honestly glad that Matt worked here, despite how much he might dislike it. He knew that Matt only worked here because he was trying to save up enough money to actually become a member here, which meant they could play golf during the day instead of nearly midnight.

Delilah sat at the bar of the country club, ordering drink after drink to drown her sorrows in. Her parents had taken their constant nagging way too far, so Delilah decided to take comfort in tequila shots and her good old friend, Jack Daniels.

That outfit makes you look pudgy, and no man wants to marry a pudgy woman.

Don't eat that burger, it has way too many carbs.

When are you going to get yourself a man? You're 23 years old, it's about time you decide to settle down.

"It's about time I take control over my own life," she muttered before downing another shot.
Johnny Seward hummed an old tune as he wiped off the counter of the bar. Being a bartender in a country club wasn't his dream job, but it payed the bills well. "Another drink?" He asked, motioning to the empty shot glass.

"No, I think I'm good," she mumbled, not bothering to look up at him.

With that, he removed his apron and told his friend Jimmy that he'd be on break. Johnny walked out of the bar and took out his cigarettes, thinking one wouldn't hurt his system.

When Savannah arrived at the dining hall, her parents and sister were already there, sipping on glasses of wine. Her mother looked up when Savannah approached and smiled. "Savannah!" she exclaimed, standing up to give her daughter a hug. "It's so nice to see you."

"You just saw me a week ago, Mom," Savannah laughed. She sat down next to her sister, Sarah.

"A week is a considerable amount of time," her father added, smiling as well.

"So how have the past seven days treated you?" her mother asked. She poured Savannah a glass of wine, which the brunette knew she would need before the lunch was over. "Did you meet anyone nice?"

Savannah tried hard not to roll her eyes. Here we go again, she thought.
Zacky grabbed the money off of the table and slipped them into his apron. He was slightly irritated that the couple who'd been sitting here had only left him $5, since their check was almost $40. It wasn't like he was rude to them or anything. But money was money, no matter how small the tip. And he definitely needed it. He worked at Olive Garden, something his friends liked to give him shit about, since he was half-Italian. But the paycheck paid the rent, so he wasn't complaining.

"Zack, there's a table in the back for you," Rachel, the girl at the front said. She handed him three menus and sent him on his way, already occupied with the next group that had walked in the door.

"Fuck this," Delilah mumbled, throwing some cash on the counter. She stumbled as she stood up from her seat, realizing she might of had way too much alcohol.

Delilah had almost made it to her car before her phone buzzed in her pocket. She wasn't even the slightest bit of surprised as she realized it was her mom texting her.

Why don't you come with us to dinner tomorrow?

Delilah groaned. Might as well accept the invitation, because there really was no way she could get out of dinner dates her mother arranges. Delilah had replied, and not two minutes later, her phone buzzes again.

Great! Meet us at the Olive Garden at 5.

The Olive Garden? Typically, they both have lunch at somewhere more extravagant, but Olive Garden? That certainly was different.
Matt's shift was already over, so he decided to head home and take a nap. As he got in his car, he checked his phone, and raised an eyebrow when he saw he had 17 missed calls. But it didn't surprise him when more than half of them were from his ex Val. "You just don't leave me alone, do you?" He mumbled with a shake of his head.

Savannah sighed. "You asked me this last week, and this week the answer is the same as last week," she said. "I haven't met anyone."

"I know you're tired of us asking, sweetheart," her mother fretted. "But we're just worried about you. We want you to have a good life."

Anger flared up in Savannah's belly. "Why do you think I need a man to have a good life?" she nearly shouted. "I can do that myself."

Without another word, Savannah got up from the table and went outside. She was desperately craving a cigarette. When she realized she was out, she became even more upset. "Dammit," she cursed.

Suddenly there was a hand in her face, waving a precious cancer stick. "You look like you could use one of these," the man chuckled. Savannah took the cigarette from him and he then offered her a lighter. "The name's Johnny."
"Hi, my name's Zack and I'll be your waiter today," Zacky greeted, stepping up to his newest table. He glanced around at his patrons, seeing that they were all of drinking age, and asked, "Will any of you be drinking any wine this evening?"

The youngest of the group, obviously the daughter of the other two, nodded her head. "I'll have a quartino of white Zinfandel," she said, smiling. Her mother shot her a disapproving look, which the girl ignored. "And a water too, if you don't mind."

Zacky jotted this down and turned to the older couple. "And what would the two of you like to drink?"

"A Blue Moon, please," answered the man.

"A diet coke for me," said the woman.

Zacky wrote this down as well. "I'll be right back with those, and then I'll take your order."

With this he headed off to the kitchen. As he walked away, he heard the mother hiss to her daughter, "Honestly Delilah, do you know how many calories there are in a quartino?"

"Yeah, I do. But that's not going to stop me," Delilah grumbled. As she waited for the man to come back with their drinks, she had to listen to her parents nagging at her. Again.

"So, have you met anyone?" Delilah's mother asked. Ah, there it was. "Nope, and I don't plan on meeting anyone," she stated. With that, her parents both looked at her in disappointment.

"Honey, you're not getting any younger, so it's about time you start looking," her father said, starting to lose his patience.

"Why should I? I don't need anyone, so it's about time for both of you to get off my back," she spat. Why did she still put up with them, she'll never know.
"The names Johnny," he said to the brunette. She looked distraught and somewhat angry. "You look upset," he spoke, and the girl gave him a look that said, no shit Sherlock.

"Hey, I'm here to talk if you want," Silence.

"Say something at least," he mumbled.
"Val, I've said this once, and I'll say it again; I don't care anymore, so get your shit and leave my house." Matt said before hanging up on the blonde. He didn't even know why he agreed to date her in the first place. All she's done to him is lie, bitch, and cheat. Why couldn't have a woman who wasn't heartless?

Because this was real life, and stuff like that just doesn't happen to him.

Savannah took a long drag off of the cigarette and held the smoke in for a few seconds before letting it billow out around her face. "I just had to get away from my parents for a few minutes," she sighed. "I love them, but they stress me out so much sometimes."

"I can understand that," Johnny replied, leaning against the wall.

The two of them stood there in silence for a few minutes as Savannah finished her cigarette. While she smoked, she studied Johnny. He was taller than her, but still rather short. His brown hair was messy, like he hadn't combed it thus morning, and his chocolate colored eyes sparkled with exhaustion.

"Well, it was nice meeting you Johnny, but I should really get back to my parents," Savannah said, stomping out her cigarette. "I'll get you back for the cigarette."
"Here's your house salad," Zacky said, setting the bowl in front of the youngest woman. She mumbled a thank you while glaring at her mother, and stabbed half-heartedly at the green leaves. He gave her parents their food before excusing himself.

He went into the bathroom and pulled out his phone. Unlocking it, he say he had several text messages; a few of them were from his friend Jimmy but most were from Matt.

I swear to God if Val doesn't leave me the hell alone

She left me like ten voicemails holy shit

When do you get off work? Me and Jimmy wanna go to the bar

"Well it was nice talking to you," he said, stomping out his own cigarette and walking back into the bar.

"One more hour, and I'll be home free,"
Matt sat on the couch, flipping through various infomercials as he waited for his friend Zacky to answer his texts. He was in need of a drink or two.

His phone had buzzed, and at first he thought it was Val. Luckily it wasn't, it was Zacky.

I'll be off in a few minutes.

Matt groaned. A few minutes? He couldn't wait for a few minutes. He wanted a drink now. Matt texted Zacky back only for him to reply a minute later.

Stop being so whiny, it's only for a couple more minutes.

I am not whiny, he thought to himself. Or am I?
Delilah picked at the salad, not bothering to even take a bite out of the meal. She waited for the man to return, and when he did, she planned on ordering something else.

"So everything fine with your food?" He asked.

"Actually, do you guys have steak?" Delilah asked, ignoring her parents protests.

"I think so." He said with a raise of his eyebrow.

"Then could I have the steak instead?" She asked, and she could literally imagine her parent's faces right now. When the man left, her parent's didn't look to happy. Not that she cared.

"Are you kidding me? Do you know how fat you'll get? What kind of man wants a fat wife?" Her mother asked.

"There you are!" Sarah exclaimed when Savannah reappeared at the table. "We were wondering where you'd run off to."

"I needed a cigarette," Savannah grumbled. She could feel her parents disapproving stares boring into her skin, but she did her best to ignore them. "Have you guys ordered? I'm starving."

"The waiter hasn't been by since he delivered the wine," Sarah explained. Her gaze shifted to a spot over Savannah's shoulder. "Ah, there he is now."
"Here's your steak," Zacky said, placing the plate in front of the woman. "You didn't specify how you wanted it prepared, so the chef cooked it medium rare. I hope that's alright."

    "That's fine."

"Are you actually going to eat that?" her mother hissed. Zacky started to back away, feeling uncomfortable. "You're going to get fat, Delilah. Don't you care at all?" The girl rolled her eyes, giving her head an exasperated shake. "Men don't like that."

"Actually, I prefer a girl who knows how to eat," Zacky put in. He had no idea what consumed him to do so. The girl - Delilah - shot him a grateful glance, while her mother only glared at him.

"It would serve you well to stay out of this, young man."

"No mother, I agree with him. I want someone who doesn't care about what I eat. Besides, this man was only doing his job, there was no need to cause a scene in here." Delilah stood up from the table and fished out two 20 dollar bills out of her wallet.

"I'm very sorry sir. They're not like this at all," she said to the man before giving him the change.

Despite her parents protests, Delilah walked out of the restaurant and into her car. She then grabbed her smokes out of the compartment before stepping outside to rest against the building. It bugged her when her parents caused a scene at restaurants, it was like they had no class at all. Not to mention the way the both of them had criticized her of being fat in front of the young man, which had embarrassed her to no end.
Can we go now?Matt had texted to his friend for the umpteenth time.

    I'm almost out.

"You said that like fifteen minutes ago," Matt groaned.

His phone began to vibrate again and without checking who was calling, he answered.

"Hi Matty." His eyes shut tightly at the sound of her screechy voice. Val.

"Why are you calling me? I thought I said I didn't want to hear your voice again." He said before letting out an exasperated sigh.

"I figured we could hang out. As friends."

"You never want to be just friends,"

"So Cadi and I were thinking of hitting up a bar tonight if you want to come with us," Sarah said, swallowing her food. "I didn't know if you had any plans tonight or not."

Savannah shrugged her shoulders, stabbing at her plate. "Sounds good," she replied. "I could use a drink. What time were you guys thinking of going?"

"Not too early, probably around ten thirty or eleven," Sarah answered. Savannah noticed her eyes travel to their parents who were entranced in a conversation of their own. Giving her older sister a nudge, Sarah added, "Maybe you'll meet someone."

    "Shove it," Savannah laughed.
Just got to my apartment so I should be at the bar in about 15 minutes

After sending the text message to Matt, Zacky put his phone on the bathroom counter and climbed into the shower. The hot water flowing over his skin was extremely welcome after a long day at work. Waiting tables wasn't really all that taxing, it was being on his feet for so long that got to him. Not to mention Zacky wasn't exactly the most in-shape guy.

True to his word, Zacky pulled into the bar parking lot about fifteen minutes later. Not surprisingly, Jimmy and Matt were already at the bar, the oldest man heckling the bartender for what looked like his third drink of the evening.

"Jeez Jim, slow down," Zacky chucked, taking a seat on one of the barstools. Turning to the bartender, he added, "I'll just take a Bud Light Platinum, please."

    [It's okay c:]

"What took you so long Zacky?" Matt asked before motioning for another drink. He looked around the bar, his mouth turning into a smirk after his eyes had settled on a blonde woman serving drinks to another table. "Hey Jimbo, check out that one," he said pointing to the blonde.

"Look, the hot guys have a friend," Cadi said, pointing at the bar. She'd spent the last fifteen minutes talking about two men at the bar who, as she'd pointed out, had been joined by a third man. Sarah, who was married, hadn't been listening, so that task had fallen to Savannah. "He's pretty hot too, don't you think, Savannah?"

The brunette shrugged her shoulders. "I guess so," she replied, sipping her drink.

"Why don't you go talk to them?" Sarah asked, giving her sister a nudge. Savannah huffed playfully and rolled her eyes. "I saw the one guy looking over here, and I'm sure he was looking at you."

Savannah shrugged her shoulders again. What could it hurt? It would just be talking. And besides, she needed another drink. Getting to her feet, Savannah quickly made her way over to the bar. She glanced to her left at the group of men, and saw one of them - the one her sister had mentioned - looking at her. "Uh hi," she squeaked. "My name's Savannah."
"Because I needed a shower," Zacky replied. He popped the top off of his beer and took a drink. "I couldn't walk in here smelling like garlic bread."

"You act like these girls would wanna go home with you, Zack," Jimmy teased. Zacky gave his friend a hard punch in the arm and he wailed.

"Hey, check out that one, Jim," Matt put in, gesturing to a group of girls at a nearby table. Zacky could see from here that one of them had a ring on, so it obviously wasn't her that Matt was talking about. As he watched, one of the girls looked up, her eyes quite obviously traveling to Matt.

"Hey man, I think you might get a bite!" Jimmy said, shoving Matt's shoulder.

"Hey there, my name's Matt," he said with a smirk. She was a pretty little thing, with long brown hair and icy blue eyes. Maybe, just maybe, this woman would be interested in a night with him, because he hadn't been with anyone for months, and it was starting to take its toll on him.

"What about your friends?" Savannah asked, looking over at Matt's two companions. The two of them were in some sort of argument, and one kept flicking the other.

"Zacky and Jimmy? Don't mind them, they're fucking idiots," Matt chuckled. He scooted closer to her and away from his friends, who looked dangerously close to spilling one of their drinks. Savannah noticed him studying her and couldn't help but blush just slightly. "Say, you look kinda familiar, do I know you from somewhere?"

"Probably not," she replied. She paused as the bartender set her drink in front of her and took a sip before continuing. "I spend most of my time at home or at the country club. My parents are members there."

"That's where I know you from," Matt said. Savannah cocked her head to the side, confused, and he added, "I work there. And sometimes I even sneak in to play golf on the green."

Savannah leaned closer to Matt, suddenly interested. An idea was forming in her mind, one that might finally get her parents off of her back. "You play golf?" she asked, flashing Matt a smile.
"Jim, knock it off," Zacky said, shoving Jimmy's hand away. But just like a fly, his hand was back immediately, and the taller man proceeded to flick Zacky again. "Fucking quit it!"

"I'm bored, though," Jimmy whined. He took another swig of his beer before reaching out and flicking Zacky again. The green-eyed man felt his temper rising. He loved Jimmy, but sometimes he didn't know when to stop. Especially when he'd been drinking.

"Jimmy, if you don't stop fucking flicking me I'm going to stab you with a fork."

"Yeah. What's with the sudden interest?" He asked, taking notice of how her lips curled into a smile at the mention of the country club.

    "No particular reason,"

"Come on, there has to be some reason why you're so interested in my job at the country club. Golf isn't a very exciting topic you know, and neither is my job, " Matt said, his eyes searching Savannah's as if he could find some answers in the depths of her blue orbs.

"I have an idea, but it involves you, so I need to know if you're in or not,"

"I'm in. So, what's the plan?" He asked, curious as to what the young woman's plan was.

Savannah was honestly surprised that Matt had agreed to her plan so readily - and without even hearing it! But she wasn't about to complain, not wight the ticket to getting her parents off of her back sitting right in front of her. "How would you like to be able to play golf without having to sneak onto the grounds?' she asked.

    "Go on."

"I can get you a membership to the country club," Savannah stated bluntly. Matt's hazel eyes widened. "And pay for it, too. All you have to in exchange is pretend to be my boyfriend."
After realizing that Matt was going to be focused on that girl for awhile, Zacky decided to ca it a night. He was tired and besides, there was only so much more he could take of Jimmy's incessant pestering. He bid Jimmy farewell and walked out to the parking lot, lighting a cigarette as he approached his car.

"Hey Zack, didn't expect to see you here," a familiar voice said.
