I checked, but lock if this is a duplicate!

Have you ever had something happen at work that is so memorable, you'll never forget it, even after you stop working there? This is the place to share those stories!

I have a few. I worked in a convenience store for a while, and there were definitely some interesting times there!

Being a young girl working evenings and late nights, sometimes even full overnights, in a convenience store on the bad side of town, I got hit on a lot. I had one customer who was always nice and would have a conversation with me when he came in for beer every single day. One day he came in, then left, and came back about fifteen minutes later. As he was checking out, he handed me a carefully folded note with a smiley face drawn on the top. I unfolded it later, and it was a note inviting me to go see him sometime, with his name, his phone number, his roommates name and phone number, his address, and a map to his house. I kept the note because it was so weird, I had to show my friends. Every time he came in after that, he would ask for my phone number. After a few months he lost hope, but would still ask every day and laugh about it, not even waiting for me to say no.

Another time there, a man came in and tried to steal a pack of cigarettes, which we kept behind the counter, and I wouldn't let him. He was angry and went to the cooler, grabbed a bottle of water, and walked out. My coworker, who wasn't on the clock yet and was standing beside the counter near me, yelled that it was stealing. The man threw the bottle at the door, then walked off. Then he suddenly ran back into the store, tried to come behind the counter, and my coworker stepped in front of the opening so he wouldn't be able to get near me. The man then punched my coworker in the face, and they ended up in the back fighting. The other man working had to go break it up and they held the guy down until the police came. The guy had a broken nose, fractured jaw, several bruises, and had to get several stitches on his eye among other things. He was yelling so much in the ER, that he had to be sedated.

And then the most recent story happened at my next job. I worked at a call center for a bank. The bank is actually located across the country, but outsourcing is cheaper of course. Whenever a customer had a fee on their account and was upset about it, we would try to rebate it but if the account didn't qualify, we could not. If the customer then requested a supervisor, or if we had a question about a fee or anything similar, we would call this department located across the country. When I would call that department, I'd pretty regularly get the same person, we'll call him J. Since we both worked the early morning shift and there were only about ten people in that department, it was inevitable that I would talk to him pretty often. He always answered the phone with his first and last name (he was the only one; we're only required to answer with the first name and no one really likes giving out their full name if we don't have to), and was so enthusiastic. We became friends, as much as you can talking for a few moments maybe 3 or 4 times a week. We'd always talk about how we're doing and such before actually going to the reason for the call. My last day was wednesday. I told him on Tuesday, and he was really sad and gave me a sweet speech about how he wants the best for me in life and always loves talking to me, and said that I've always been his favorite agent to speak with. Then on Wednesday, I called the department again and reached him. He told me he'd been thinking about me all day, hoping that I'd have an issue and need to call, and we talked then I was about to send the customer to him when he suddenly said, "Since it's your last day I'll go ahead and tell you- I did send you a message," but I didn't get a change to ask what he meant. I checked my work email and had nothing. When I got home and told my roommate about it, he suggested I check facebook. I did, and it turned out that J had found my facebook and messaged me two weeks before. We've actually become pretty close friends now. It's funny. My roommates work for the same place, so I can talk to J about my roommates and work stuff and he always knows exactly what I mean.

Oh my god, I have so many funny stories to share about my job... I'm a nanny/au pair, and instead of paying for residence at my college I actually stay with a family in the LA area instead and watch their kids in exchange for getting a free place to stay (they pay me as well). The family I've been with for the past two years has three kids: a little boy who's 9, we'll call him Boy A, a little boy who's 7 (Boy B), and a girl who's 4 (Girl C). The first night the parents went out that I was there, I couldn't get the kids to go to sleep. Boy A went to bed on his own eventually, because he was tired and wanted to just relax and use his Nintendo DS, but Boy B was playing Minecraft and practically bouncing off the walls. Girl C fell asleep on the couch watching Disney channel so I decided not to move her lest I wake her up; at least she was asleep. So Boy B is driving me nuts and I'm trying to calm him down so he doesn't wake up Girl C on the couch, but he's jumping all around on the couch and trying to get me to play with him. Naturally, he falls, and he falls right into a wet spot by Girl C, which, it's immediately clear to me that letting Girl C sleep on the couch was a bad idea because she peed on their couch. This is when the parents come home-- to Boy B nudging Girl C yelling, "I STEPPED IN YOUR PEE!" and Girl C waking up turning to me confusedly saying, "Did I do that?" while her parents look on. It was such a weird, "Full House"-esque moment; for some reason I'll always remember it, lol. Mr. Green

The one thing I will always remember from my job would be this one day this past November when I was working at customer service. I work in a bookstore, and this man wearing a baseball cap and and canvas jacket came up and asked for books by a certain author. He had a reason, but I had not heard him clearly so I just asked him for the name of the author. I saw that we had a few in store so I took him to the section and when I showed them to him, he was like, "Oh great, so do you want me to sign these?"

It turns out that this man was a doctor/travelling scientist who liked to go to bookstores of places he's visiting to check if they have his books, and then sign them. I was a little overwhelmed and had to ask my manager to make sure it was okay, but eventually I let him sign the first pages of the books with sharpie. He told me about his research on evolutionary biology of different races and how we adapt to different diseases, as well as the science behind sexual attraction.

He made such an impact on me that I ended up buying two of the books that he signed. Razz

    Hotel:
. A guest left a massive lamp on the bed, with a letter beside it basically saying "this hotel is sh*t" and had rearranged all the furniture [heard from co-worker].

. Knocking on room thrice and announcing my duty, no answer so I go in. It's dark inside (early weekday morning), first thing I see on side table by the door is a credit card. I pick it up and observe it, and make a tsk kind of sound as I imagine that someone has forgotten it and would be soon needing it - so I'm about to walk out of the room with it to put it in a bag and label it (for ease of retrieval for guest later), when suddenly the bed shuffles and the guy rises up like a zombie. I'm just stood there with his credit card in my hands like Shocked
I think he was too tired to fully realise or care, I just apologised a lot and told him I'd come back later, left his card there and left. He just mumbled a "no worries" or something and went back to sleep. XD *wipes forehead* That could have looked bad.

. One guest complained that I put his ironing board back in the cupboard, another complained that I didn't (upon being advised not to due to the first complaint). Guests, man. mrgun

. Being accused of stealing £15 worth of sweets (might I note that there was an iPad in this room also). lmfao There are several questions I have.
    - Firstly, why on Earth would you buy one child fifteen pounds worth of sweets? I could equally report them to social services Think (JK).
    - Secondly, dear guest: did you really think I'm so hungry or greedy that I'd steal a pack of sweets instead of a valuable iPad?

. An Australian room service worker walked along the corridor I was working in and accidentally dropped an unopened can of Cola which decided to somehow explode all over the walls. His reaction was priceless and had me keeling over with laughter. In his gorgeously thick Aussie accent, he was all like "aw f*ck! Jesus Christ!" and just kept repeating that the whole time and freaking out. I did help him out eventually. lmfao

. My very last room working here: some person decided to roll up their duvet and place it on the middle of the double bed like a body was wrapped inside. On the top of the duvet, by the pillow, they had placed a Bible. They'd moved the big table by the front of the bed and neatly placed cushions around the Bible. It looked like something that belonged in a freaking crypt. lmfao Gotta love those guests who either play silly buggers or are just that drunk.

    Retail store:
. Some guy walked in towards closing time and decided to have a long-winded chat with me about why there were no remotes for the TVs in the store. Being the awkward, problematic person that I am, I didn't really know how to answer him so I just agreed and then he asked me to forward it to my manager, but then he started insisting that there must be a remote somewhere in order for the TVs to be switched on or something like that (can't remember exactly but it was a question I couldn't answer) so I directed him to my poor colleague over at the till. I'm such a nice person. :o)

. A guy walked in and browsed the catalogue, so I went over and asked if he needed any help. He said yes and asked "do you do massages?" I said I wasn't too sure but I'd have a quick look for him - found a foot massager to point out to him. He then said "no, I mean do you do massages?"
And I did laugh but it was a really embarrassed laugh because I can't hide my true emotions, but my God I totally killed his joke. lmfao OTL

That story about J is super sweet! Cute I made a good friend like that from my work at the hotel!

Omg though, the guy that tried to steal cigarettes really sounded like a headcase. mrgun Scary!

    @ jenny holzer.
Omg that sounds like a hectic yet amusing evening. lmfao Kids...personally don't want any of my own, but occasionally I bond with a kid and it's all good - problem is that I'm too much of a soft-touch or just that weirdo that messes around playing games with them but when it comes to serious stuff I'm like Think I can only bond with kids if no other adults are there, though, otherwise I feel under pressure haha. Do you feel like that too; does it bother you when the parents arrive back home?

    @ matt murdock
That's awesome! I'd love to meet a published author, particularly of a book I've read and loved. Imagine that!
    Chris d'Lacey, Linda Buckley-Archer, David Attenborough...yes please!

Most of all I remember trying to start my own business. It was an exciting and stressful experience for me, because creating a business and keeping it afloat turned out to be a mega challenge. But I turned to an outsourcing company WOW24-7 in time, it helped to grow the popularity of my store at a fast pace, I was very pleasantly surprised. It turns out that sometimes in order to win you need not be afraid to take risks.

Thank you for offering to discuss this topic. It is very interesting. At my old job, I had a lot of memorable and pleasant moments. However, recently I had to change my occupation. I felt like I needed to move on. I used professional cv writing services In truth, it was the best decision I have ever made. I was assisted by certified, qualified and experienced writers. I am very grateful to this service, because I was able to get a position that I had dreamed of since childhood.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I just recently found a job that really brings me pleasure. I work as a makeup artist. It was a pleasant surprise for me that I was able to find a job in a good salon on the Linkedin platform. I have been registered there for a long time, but when I accidentally stumbled upon a blog article https://skillroads.com/linkedin-profile-help I decided to update my profile using modern rules for its design, and the recruiter quickly responded to these updates and today I have my dream job. I'm so happy.
