    An excerpt for Falling Slowly:

Though no one wants to say it, as Cas slowly falls, he becomes more of a liability than help on the few local hunts the Winchesters take on. Since he returned to the bunker some weeks prior, he’d been inching closer to ‘human’ every day but nowhere near fast enough. It seems, falling really is the worst part.

Aha funny that you just did this, yesterday I went on that site and did my own stories.
It hurts the most when it’s someone you look up to.

Hurtful words, angry words, empty words that should mean nothing but you spend all your time mulling over them in your head. It’s an endless cycle. A self-depreciating cycle.

Try to think, to focus on the regular things, everyday things but your breaths come as cries; you’re broken.

@ fauvism I use word counter all the time and I didn't notice the reading level thing until a few days ago. I think it's so cool because it gives you an opportunity to see how compatible your writing is to the audience you're writing for.
An excerpt from Double R (probably one of the first fanfictions I ever wrote):

I woke up the next morning, sitting in Ryan’s lap with my head on his shoulder. It was about five in the morning. I swallowed some Advil - for my headache - and changed into to clean clothes. By the time I was dressed the bus had pulled up to the hotel. Of course everyone was still asleep. I caught the driver before he went to wake up the guys and I told him I would. I went to the back of the bus and stood where Ryan was sleeping. I kneeled down next to him and leaned over to his ear.

Speaking of your last message, I found out why my planet’s data “has completely been on the fritz.” My planet has an atmosphere, a layer of invisible stuff that can create anomalies in data. That layer is actually what keeps me alive, and makes it impossible to see stars when my sun comes up. But because you have no atmosphere, you can see stars whenever you look up into the sky.

From How It Came to Be:

Eira gave her brother a sharp, unamused glance that he almost coiled away from. He knew—Zane knew that he needed to tread lightly in his jokes and lighthearted bounces with Eira because he hadn’t forgotten about the words that just seemed to have possession of his tongue. He never meant to tell his parents—their Dad, of all people—about Lana first, over Eira because Eira was Eira and there was no Zane without Eira and she hadn’t even really been the same around him since, but it just came out in his excitement about Lana. Now he was paying for it and he didn’t even know how or where to begin in apologizing, so he kept hoping maybe Eira would bring it up, but she seemed pretty content in being mad and ignoring him.

The atmosphere was tense, hot and humid, feeding their feverish desire to the highest degree. She breathed down his neck, as the light, feathery touches became frantic and rough. Sweat trickled down the arch of her back and their tangled legs. His mouth traveled down the crook of her neck, until the valley of her breasts. She grabbed his face, bringing her lips down to his, meeting his tongue thrust for thrust as she wrapped her legs around his lower torso. Their hips slowly ground against each other, filling their lust up to the brim.

    From Wolfsbane Trail

The fall of Alpha Byron Curtis had been a swift and unexpected one. When he accepted Aaron Greenwood—the strongest wolf in the Wolfsbane pack—as his Beta, he had expected unequivocal loyalty, and a swift uprising in the quality and performance of the pack's army. Instead, he received a swift death. Aaron had been planning the takeover of the pack for months. He could feel that his dominance was much higher than Byron's was. His strength was much greater, and even his following within the pack was greater. Aaron's plan was to take over the pack and end the Wolfsbane Curse. He planned to be the last surviving Alpha of the Wolfsbane pack, and he planned to be ruthless in his ruling. And, to have the most powerful pack, being ruthless was a requirement.

    Summary of Sweet Rosaline:

    Fuck that noise.

McCarty's fine, all brawn and muscle and perfect tight ass in those compression pants, but they think he's got me with his sweet dimples and even sweeter words? 'Cause he calls me Primrose and sometimes I wear his away-jersey to home games? 'Cause I let him in my window when he comes throwing driveway gravel and calling Sweet Rosaline, that means I've let him in my heart too.

They're all saying I love him and 'Look at how you look at him,' and 'What’s wrong with being in love?' And seriously? Fuck them, 'cause what's right with being in love?

From an incomplete preseries Common Law fanfic:

Every night, Wes comes home on light feet, moving softly in the darkness of the apartment in order not to wake Alex. At this point, he has every inanimate object’s place memorized, easily making his way around couches and end tables to avoid stubbed toes.

Most nights Alex does not stir, either from exhaustion or out of courtesy, knowing how much Wes hates it when she sees him after a long shift, sweaty, his skin still hot with the feeling of all the hands that had grabbed him as he danced.

Some nights Alex doesn’t care how Wes feels, turning on the light and watching him anyways.

This night, she even goes so far as to slip out of bed, sleepy eyed, her hair unkempt, and shuffles over to embrace him from behind as he places his wallet and keys on their dresser counter. “How much did you make tonight?”

“Come on now, hun. I must smell awful. Go back to sleep.”

    “How much?”

Wes reaches into his pocket, pulls out the largest wad of cash Alex has ever seen at once. “About 2700.”

She whistles softly, reaching out to feel it in her hands, which Wes quickly jerks away from her grip and sets against its own corner on the dresser, not touching any of the other objects. “That’s more than you made the night we met, isn’t it?”

    “Trust me, you
don’t want that money in your hands. And…yes.”

    “You say as if I
haven’t touched you everywhere…” Alex smirks, her hands dropping down to his waist, reaching over to kiss his neck.

Wes flushes and tries to move away, shaking his head. “I’m disgusting right now, Alex, trust me-“

“Not to me,” she says softly. Her silk nightgown falls onto the ground almost silently, and it’s all it takes to guide Wes into their shared bed.

    Taken from Void.

You’re no longer numb. You’re feeling the world on your hands and knees. Rediscovering just what the world likes to hide with new eyes. Sometimes, you don’t like what you see, what was so easy to miss before. Sometimes you’re scared and you feel naive again. And you just want to run away from everything and hide. Just for a second. And, for that second, you’re back to where you started and everything ended. Breathing out, breathing out, breathing out, sheer panic. But then you hear your friends’ calming voices next to you, reminding you that you are strong and that you will find your way. Everything is not okay, until everything is okay again. And this time, you find yourself breathing out, breathing in, breathing out, breathing in, breathing, breathing. Breathing, because you’re okay, not everything is okay yet, but you’re okay. And that is something.

    unnamed story:
"It seems that we will be entertaining a guest this afternoon." A smile graced the woman's face as she read over the letter that she had received only moments ago, putting a hand to her mouth as she tucked the letter back into the envelope. "To see his grown up face for the first time will bring me joy." A family of three had made themselves comfortable in the drawing room, where they would quietly sit and enjoy each other’s company after their midday meal.

“My always growing face does not bring you a speck of joy, my love?” The woman’s husband, sitting across the room, smiled at her as she scoffed at his teasing comment. It was the kind of love and teasing that kept the couple’s relationship anything but boring. The spark that had brought them together all those years ago had not yet faded because of their constant banter and frequent dates, which only brought them closer together throughout the years.
11th - 12th grade level. However, when I put the rest of the chapter in, it was a lower level as a whole.

Apparently my portion of the Matt co-write, my Brian stories and my Gerard story are college student levels. My smut, however, ranges from college student to college graduate. lmfao

One or two of my pieces (a Joe Jonas three-shot, my Supernatural story and my Ronnie Radke/Max Green one-shot) drop down to 11-12th grade level though, but for the most part I'm consistently a college student. I would copy/paste excerpts, but I honestly copy/pasted entire chapters, and at times entire stories, so I'm not going to.

However, all my stuff that I checked is on mibba.

For shits and giggles though, I did put this little spiel into the word counter and this is apparently college level writing. Not sure how though.

    Summary of Aerith

Prog Aerospace Systems is one of the largest private companies in the world. Focused solely on aeronautics and space exploration and conservation, PAS engineered the largest space mission in the world. Jonathan Corbet, the CEO, and his affiliates, sent twelve scientist into space in an effort to explore two newly discovered symbiotic planets and determine the possibility of either habitat sustaining human life.

Two extraterrestrial planets co-existing side by side, jointly called Aerith, are home to a race of people who call themselves Keoni. Their species stems from the same origins as humans, but have evolved past homo sapiens and in different ways. Their planets share an oxygen-rich atmosphere that allows the humans to survive and are covered in a single-cell photosynthetic organism which is similar to Earth's algae, making Aerith appear almost entirely purple.

Lark, Monet, and Zealand Dresden are parahumans, among the first generation of homo sapiens to be born on Aerith. Children of Rachel and Sean Dresden, their conception on Aerith barred them from being considered citizens of Earth, giving them something in common with the Keoni people, the people whose world their parents invaded.

“Where do you live, Travis?” Oh, right. For some reason he’s found himself just expecting them to know, as if they’ve done this a thousand times, as if he’s been here all his life. But they aren’t mind readers, and he’s only been here for a month, so instead he has to tell them the street.

Abby knows where it is, without further question. This is starting to get a little awkward, sitting in the dark in the car of a woman he’s just met, while his only lifeline sits in silence, staring out the window as if he can see a damn thing. It all just looks like unfamiliar dark blurs to him, with the occasional back lit window or yellowy street lamp to help illuminate.

But then, Travis figures, it could also probably be a lot more awkward. All his life, he’s been surrounded by rambunctious kids always begging to play and teenagers trying to prove themselves with their loud mouthed street talk – there’s been nothing but noise, buzzing in his ear, overstimulating and harsh.

It wasn’t too hard to learn to adapt, and after a while it simply became a source of comfort, a normalcy he’s come to enjoy, but there’s still a part of him that has always yearned for that silence. His little Thoreau cabin in the woods.

Wes is giving him this silence, almost as a gift. Which is ridiculous, considering how Travis has never even said anything of the sort to Wes, so how could he possibly know about any of that, and yet everything in his gut is telling him that’s the truth. Travis stares out the window and soaks it all in, the peace and quiet that has never been a part of his life, accented only by the feeling of Wes’s own presence, pressing up beside him. Unobtrusive, calming.

An excerpt from a contest entry I've been working on:

He woke tangled up in the buttress roots of a tree as the salty waves lapped over his eyelashes. The sky above was blurry and at dusk as he stared up from where his head rested upon the water’s bottom; there was something foreboding about the pink rays of light that leaked through the clouds above. With a gurgle Loki pushed himself up to break the water’s surface in search of sweet air and as he coughed eagerly he found he could stand on his knees, waist high in the clear water. Where was this place?

A flicker of panic came to light in his chest as he rubbed his eyes: this wasn’t Asgard, it couldn’t be Asgard. He’d memorized every map in his scriptures, he’d traveled every succulent trail of woodland for herbal ingredients to tonics. This place of fertility was no place of Asgard yet round him pretty little flowers bloomed on the shore and the wind blew sweetly to send shivers down his spine.

    What a tease.

Slowly he rose to stand flat foot on the water’s crest as he took in everything around him. Life was plentiful out here, wherever it was that he’d fallen, but there was little sign of advanced life. Of intelligent life. Loki was, for all intents and purposes, alone out in the wilderness of somewhere. He made his way off of the shoreline and to the sweet, summer grasses with a disgruntled huff.

An excerpt from chapter 5 of Love Bruises:

Over the course of the evening, Cas actually learns a lot more about Dean. It turns out that Dean and Sam (Sammy, he calls him), were raised by their father in a small town north of Receda. Their mother was killed in a fire before Sam was even a year old and their father criss-crossed the country as a trucker. Dean spent his first two years at a community college so he could stay close to Sam and once he was old enough, they both applied to GeorgeU.
