Avery chuckled. "Earth to Jake... Hello?" she smiled as he looked at her. "What were you thinking about?" she asked and smiled more as his eyes met with hers. She remembered last night an the jolt she felt when they touched. She blushed her ears even burning at the thought. What was that between them? She looked up as Haden called her name. "Umm sure I could eat." she said and chuckled at Jake. "Him too... I think." she said hearing Haden laugh from the kitchen. "Do you need any help?" she asked and headed into the kitchen. She saw he had brought in a little gas powered burner. "Wow were did you get that?" she asked.

Haden smiled as Avery came in and started questioning him. "Just got lucky I guess." he said and flipped the meat over and tired the beans. It was;t a normal breakfast back before the end but it was a good breakfast full of things that would keep them all going throughout the day. He looked at Avery holding back a laugh. She looked embarrassed. He could understand though. Feeling the emotions of mating and not knowing what they are or how to react to them could be very disarming. Haden looked back out of the kitchen wondering if Laney would feel he same way.

Jake frowned when she left, he hadn't realized that he had spaced out like he did. Getting up he followed them into the kitchen, he could smell it before he had even moved. And it made his mouth water, though he wasn't used to human food. He'd eat an animal raw but that was because it was natural to do so when in wolf form. Entering the kitchen he raise a brow at Haden, he had it bad. And the guy didn't know what to do.

Laney moved down the stairs and into the room they'd all been hanging out in. Frowning she noticed it was empty, she wondered just where they were. That was when the smell hit her nose. So he hadn't been lying when he said he'd heat something up. Feeling slightly impressed she wonder what it was, because it smelled amazing. Venturing off where her nose lead her she finally found them chilling in the kitchen.

Avery smiled as Jake came in. She giggled just generally excited. "Well that is some mighty fine luck." she said feeling lucky herself for meting these two. Avery looked up as Laney came in and she grabbed her hand and pulled her in. "Isn't this great!" she said having not expected this. It was even rare to get a fresh cooked meal with their group. And they always used fires never had they done this before. Avery looked over at Jake and smiled. "What do you think? You must be pretty spoiled having Haden around." she said and chuckled. Avery was thinking what it would be like to travel with Haden and Jake. It would never be like it was with their group. she could just tell that they were good.

Haden smiled. He shrugged. It really was no big deal to him. He smiled and looked at Jake knowing his thoughts too. They didn't eat like this but since they had humans around they had to rethink how they did a lot of things. Haden looked up as Chip walked, or rather limped, into the kitchen. "What's with all the commotion?" he asked and saw the food. His eyes became greedy and his demeanor changed and he looked down at Avery making her shrink. Haden sighed. "Have a seat Chip there will be enough for all of us." he said though he wanted to rip off his head and when he turned that gaze to Laney he turned and snapped at him barking his orders like the alpha he was. "Sit down!" he helped at the man. Chip instantly found a seat looking sheepish. Haden huffed and turned back to the food. He smiled making small chat. "So Laney what do you think the weather will be like today?" he teased and looked at her with a goofy smile though his eyes were still tight after dealing with Chip. Still his eyes welcomed her to lighten the mood and to feel safe.

Jake laughed out before shaking his head. "Nah Haden just brought this out for you." He teased Avery, they all knew he was joking. But really he had brought it for the girls. He wanted to feed Laney right and Jake knew that. His smile quickly vanished when he noticed Chip's behavior towards the girls. The way Avery reacted towards him pissed him off. She should never shrink down because of a man. Glaring at Chip he started thinking of ways for him to never make it home.

Laney frowned at Chip, she was far from intimidated. And had he of stepped closer she would have stabbed him with the rusted knife on the counter. Her eyes went wide when she heard Haden, her attention turned to him quickly. Something inside of her rejoiced at the sound, almost sexy sounding. She thought maybe it was because of the way he treated her, but shrugged it off. Licking over her lips she couldn't help the laugh that left her lips. "Yea sure fall back to that, everytime." She teased him, before nudging Avery and shaking her head. She didn't like that her sister had coward away from Chip. And she should know by now that fucker would be dead if he ever touched her.

Avery smiled at Laney softly. She looked at Haden kind of amazed. He had no problem telling Chip to back off. He was kinda like the big brother she never had though her sister would kill him in a heart beat she didn't want anyone to die because of her. Avery smiled at Jake as she leaned against the counter next to him. "Hey..." she said getting his attention. Avery noticed the defensive posture he took she Chip had glared at her. She wondered what it could mean. Avery smiled at him. "So Jake what do you do for fun?" she asked feeling safe to ask that question. Somehow she knew it would;t be the same answer as the guys she had met before.

Haden smiled. "It's cause it makes you laugh and it is a beautiful sound." he said honestly. It was also the only conversation they seemed to be able to have without either of them freaking out on the other. He watched the interaction between the sisters and was slightly envious of how affectionate they were towards each other. He grinned and turned off the stove and served everybody out give Laney a little more of his. He set a plate down in front of Chip and glared at him as if to warn him next time he would't get any if he acted like that again. Haden then turned back to everyone else and smiled as they all started to eat. He looked at Jake and Avery seeing how much she tried to break him out of his shell. Haden looked at Jake and nodded his head toward Avery telling him that this was what he was talking about. Jake would have to open up a little to Avery and now was a great time.

Jake was still pissed at Chips, though he was stunned when Avery asked him a question. "Uh, run and work out." He shrugged, "there's not a whole lot of things I get to do that are fun." He informed her. "We tend to move all the time so it usually, busy with that." He said, feeling awkward. He really didn't know how to talk to people. The wolves always knew what he was thinking and never was there a problem. But having fun and doing things like humans were rare. "What about you, what do you do that's fun?" He questioned, knowing their group had be stationed for about a year.

Laney blushed hearing his comment. "Yeah, sure." She said rolling her eyes. "Thank you." She told him before taking her plate into the other room. Unlike the others she wanted to sit, eat and be comfortable. Sitting on one of the sofas she started to eat her food. It had been awhile since she had meat that wasn't burnt to a degree. She sighed enjoying her food, she wondered if Avery had decided to stay with the group or move on. She would love to leave them all behind, and start fresh with a new group. Haden and Jake seemed like great guys who would take care of their own. And that was something she wanted more than safety of a home.

Avery smiled and nodded. Run could be fun. "Umm well I like to run but I don't really do it for fun. Let's see I obviously learn from Sage and that is kinda fun but not really something I do to relax. Hmmm. I guess I star gaze. When I was young I use to have a telescope. I loved to look at the stars and learn about the planets. I always thought that there was way to much out there for us to be alone. Turns out I was right, they just weren't aliens." she said and chuckled at herself. "Other than that I swim... well when there is a nice place to swim. I use to want to learn how to surf so bad. My mom always said she would take us to Hawaii one day but she died before she got the chance." Avery said and frowned. She shook her head and looked up at him continuing to eat as she sat on the counter. "Where is your group headed once their ready to go?" she asked.

Haden smiled at Jake and left the room so he and Avery can talk. He went to were he knew Laney would be and made his way over to her sitting across from her. "Hey. How is it?" he asked. It was different to him eating it cooked but it was't bad. Haden smiled as he continued to eat watching her then looking away not wanting to make her uncomfortable. Haden smiled as he ran a hand through his hair and then set his plate aside taking a break to relax and enjoy Laney's company.

Jake smiled listening to her, "Hawaii, oh it's a beautiful place." He told her, "not great for surfing." He shook his head smiling. "You have to be a local to know all the good surf spots, and they don't share that with outsiders." He chuckled. "But star gazing man you couldn't find a better place to star gaze than Hawaii. Sky's so clear and you can see it over my ocean, just beautiful." He smiled at her, before shrugging his shoulders. "That Haden's decision, he's like some navigational expert." He joked rolling his eyes, though he couldn't tell her the truth.

Laney wonder if she could convince Avery to not go back. She didn't think they'd be allowed to leave once the got back. If Luke got wind that her or Avery happened to like the two guys more than friends, she was afraid of what would happen. Luke was a very dangerous person and Laney had seen first hand what his rage could do. It wasn't something she wanted to relive ever again. And since he had weapons things could get out of hand very quickly. She didn't even want to think about what could happen. Placing her plate down she nibbled on her lip, she felt safer with two guys she'd just meet than a group she'd been with for over a year, and that thought scared her.

Avery listened to him her eyes longing but she knew she would never get there now. Avery sighed longingly as she finished her food. She set the plate aside and got off the counter. "You know that is the longest I have heard you talk for... you should do that more often." she said and smiled. "Well I hope it's not to far away." she said and smiled. Avery placed the dish in the sink and turned to Jake "This place does't have running water does it?" she asked. It was very rare to find a place with running water especially in the city.

Haden smiled. "You are being quiet." he said and picked up his food finishing it off before returning his attention back to Laney. "Do you mind if I ask what you are thinking about?" he asked somehow getting the feeling that it was good what ever she was thinking. Haden wondered what it would be like to have two humans with them. They would obviously need time adjust and in that time no one could go wolf. It was really dangerous to have humans with them. Then there was Chip and they had to get him back to the other camp because Haden would never bring him along.

Jake smiled at her, shaking his head. "No the only bad thing going about this place." He told her, though he was trying to rack his brain of anything else they could talk about. "We won't be leaving for a while." He told her honestly, he knew he shouldn't mention anything. But Haden did tell him to embrace her and let her in. "A couple of days ago one of the females fell and got snagged in a trap." He frowned, he knew he should be doing more to help her. If anything happened to her her mate would go insane and he was one of his favorites other than Haden. "She's pretty banged up, but healing." He told her.

Laney looked over at him, maybe it wouldn't hurt. "I was just thinking I like it here." She informed him, "less people, less drama. No controlling men." She looked down at her hands. "Thinking it would best if Avery and I didn't return." She didn't want to put it out there that she wanted to be with him and Jake, but she just didn't want to be with Luke and his controlling tendency. "I think it would be best if every body thought we were dead." She said looking up at him, her eyes held sorrow. She couldn't quite bring herself to fully tell him why.

Avery chuckled and nodded. She turned from the sink back at Jake. He was starting to open up to her. She beamed but then soon it slipped as he talked about some girl. "Oh no. How long ago was she hurt?" Avery asked thinking it should never take long to hear a flesh wound. Maybe she broke her bone. Avery bit her lip wishing she could help. "How far away is your camp from here?" she asked and Chip looked at her suspiciously. Avery ignored him. It was important to take care of people. She had done it for him why not this girl?

Haden smiled. "Yeah there are only about 6 of us right now. And we are all pretty mellow." he said and watched her carefully. How had he convinced her already to stay with them? Was she living in a place that was that bad? Haden flinched at the word dead.He nodded understandingly though. "What would we do with the prick in there?" he asked pointing towards the kitchen with his thumb talking about Chip. Haden actually wanted her to come along and Avery would be a great addition to them. She knew a lot more then they did about healing.

Jake rubbed the back of his neck, "uh not that far." He informed her, feeling like he'd stuck his foot in his mouth. First of all he'd have to talk to Haden about it then he'd have to go back to camp and tell the others. They'd never like the idea of humans around. But if they knew it was his and Haden's 'mates' then they would be excepting. Though keeping in human for would suck, they literally had nothing human accessible since they stayed wolf unless it was safer to be human form.

Laney chuckled shaking her head. "Give him the gun and tell him to go." She smirked, thinking he wouldn't last the day out there with the other wolves. "But Avery would never want to leave Sage behind." She sighed, frowning at her hands. If only it would be easy to convince her they were safer with Jake and Haden. But then again it was still wishful thinking they were safe.

Avery nodded noticing his discomfort. "Hey relax. I don't have to go... Besides I have to get Chip back to the group." she said and bit her lip. Avery smiled and touched Jake's shoulder getting the same feeling that she did last night. She shivered and stepped back. "Umm well I better go see how Laney is." she said and moved out of the kitchen stumbling on a chair on her way. She laughed nervously and looked at Jake before slipping out. She smiled seeing Laney and Haden talking. "What about me?" She asked only really hearing her name. She grinned and sat down next to Laney.

Haden smiled and chuckled at Laney's idea. He would never live to tell the tale. But he guessed that was her point. He looked up seeing Avery and he chuckled. "We were just talking about you both coming to visit us and the group sometime soon." he said and winked at Laney. He honestly believed they could work something out. Avery sat down and he looked up wondering what Jake was going.

Jake felt excited when she touched him, it was hard for him not to lean forward and kiss her. Biting his lip he quickly followed after her, he didn't want to be left alone with Chip. He'd snap his neck and laugh about it. But he didn't want to make Avery mad at him. Even if he wasn't a great friend of hers he was still a part of her group. Entering the room he heard Haden telling Avery he wanted the to visit. "I was just actually telling Avery about Char." He told Haden, knowing that they were discussing them visisting.

Laney bit her lip, feeling butterflies in her stomach. "Who?" She questioned Jake, as she felt completely left out. She knew that they had their private moments where she and Haden did also. She was actually enjoying planning with Haden. He listened to her, and actually took her ideas in. He didn't shut her down, and make her feel like she was just for looks. Sometimes she felt that was the only reason why Luke let her go out was so he could keep his eyes on her. His sick twisted thoughts, she and Avery belonged to him. Something she'd never let happen, and it was worth killing for.

Avery smiled up at Jake her mind still fuzzy and her head still spinning. She bit her lip and looked back at Laney. "I guess Char is the girl who got hurt recently... I was hoping to go and help her but we have to take Chip back." she said and smiled before bitting her lip. "But maybe When I come to see you then I can see Char." she said and looked at Haden blushing because she didn't dare look at Jake right now.

Haden smiled. "That would be very kind of you." he said and smiled at Avery then at Laney. He didn't think it would be that hard to get Avery to stay it was obvious that she liked Jake and she wanted to at least have them around. Haden sighed. "Well then should we get heading out so we can get Chip back?" he asked going to put Jake in charge of him so he could plan with Avery on how to communicate because he doubted he and Jake would be welcome in the group.

Jake nodded before standing and exiting the room. He sighed hating that he'd have to part from her. Shaking the thoughts from his head, he needed to focus and not dwell on anything bad. His mind needed to be on good things because if he let himself get distracted and she got hurt he'd never forgive himself.

Laney frowned before grabbing Avery's arm, to stop her from following the guys out the door. "Avery." She said before shaking her head, she needed her sister to know now. "I'm not going back." She informed her, she'd made up her mind if Avery wanted to she wouldn't stand in her way. "I can't," she sighed. "And if you do I don't know if I'll ever see you again." She informed her. She hoped she could convince her to stay with her.

Haden smiled and walked out with Jake. "Listen... I am thinking I am going to send you with Avery and Chip. Your job is to protect her okay? I know you would anyways but I have a feeling she is going to want to leave after you get Chip back." he said and looked at Jake. "Do you think you can do that?" he asked knowing Jake would do anything for Avery.

Avery looked at Laney and gasped at what she said. "Laney...Where would you go? Why should you leave me? You know I can't leave someone injured like Chip where he is no matter how big of a jerk he is. "Laney please. We will leave I promise just let's get Chip back. I would never forgive myself if I didn't do anything in my power to help him." Avery ran a hand through her hair tears springing into her eyes. She shook her head confused and hurt and scared. "Laney..." she did;t know what else to say as her voice was being checked out by tears. It was her morals to help hose in need and she could't turn on that because then she wouldn't be her anymore.

Jake furrowed his brow, "what do you mean?" He blinked, "you're not going with us?" He was confused as to why he wouldn't go with him when Laney was going back too, wasn't she? Shaking his head he figured Haden would fill him in on what was going on.

Laney frowned listening to her sister. "I don't care what happens to him." She growled out. Anger taking over her. "And I'm not leaving you, you have the option to stay." She told her. "But I can't be there, Avery things have happened in the past that is hard for me to talk about, but I don't want you there either. If it ever happened to you then I'd kill him, but I can't stand in your way." She bit her lip. "Just make sure you're never alone with Luke, he's sexual assulted women before." She said her eyes pleading with her sister. "Just please come back."

Haden passed listening to Laney in the other room and looked at Jake. "Watch out for Luke. Sounds like he will be the one most unwilling to let her leave. Laney is staying. She just made the decision and I want to be there for her this is a big decision." he said and looked back at the other room. "Jake Avery had to do this for herself but Laney needs to get out for the same reason. So don't leave Avery's side." he said and sighed packing a bag for Jake. "If you need anything you know how to get a hold of me. Jake you were always second in command." he said and patted his back.

Avery hugged her crying into her shoulder. "I don't want to be away from you." she cried. Never before had they done this but Laney must really trust Haden and Jake. She cried for a long time before she let her go and stood going to the kitchen and helping Chip stand. He looked at her a little concerned but he did't ask what was wrong with her and why should he, he only cared for himself anyways.

Jake frowned he didn't like the idea of going by himself. "Are you sure it's a good idea letting them go back now?" He questioned. "Maybe we should just hang out here until Chip is healed and he can take his ass back home." Jake suggested. He hoped that once they were in limping view of there camp she'd let him go on his own.

Laney frowned following her sister, she didn't like that she hadn't said she was coming back. Standing in the door way, her eyes glared at Chip. She wanted to gut the fucker for standing in between the two of them. She didn't want things to end like this and if her sister didn't come back with Jake, she was going to go after her sister. And she'd kill anybody that stood in her way.
