    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound
    Image

Usually, you'd expect bellyaching from a senior starting their first day back- technical first day back. The school had summer months off, but not everyone had a place to go. So those stuck behind were enrolled in "Summer Camp". It was just an official title for those who either didn't want to, or could not return home for the summer. Usually kids were made to spend the day working on their supernatural abilities under the watchful eyes of staff who were in the same situation as them. Cyren's first official day back started like the rest of her summer, in her dorm with her roommate, Marlee. They were an odd duo, a hellhound and a fairy- death and light. But undoubtedly none were closer than the two. Cyren had met Marlee during the freshman orientation, completely lost and in a daze. Marlee had been kind, pointed out where Cyren should of been and from there the two had formed a rather meaningful and close friendship.

When it got out that Marlee's father had joined the more malicious side of the supernatural, the kind that no longer wanted to exist and operate in shadow; most had forsaken the kind blonde. Instead, she'd made a point to curse out whomever berated her fae friend. And in turn Marlee had never been put off by Cyren's own mystical lineage. An omen of death, something that was supposed to lead the departed souls of anything supernatural to their final resting place; and most famously supposed to help guard hell. Not that Cyren really believed in that part of her lore. But her race was a near dead one, and who knows maybe her soul would guide other's. But what people overlooked was she was also supposed to be some sort of protector to the supernatural, but she supposed it was hard to see around the fact her race was synonymous with death. That had been last year, and since then tensions had only risen. During finals last year her history teacher had announced she was switching alliances, and since then no one had heard from her. Got out of a final though.

Yet, more recently things had been going... okay. She and Marlee had survived the summer camp. Mostly because this summer there was hardly any incidents and in fact there were even whispers of a new teacher who was something... Strange. Try as they might, the girls hadn't been able to figure out who was the new professor, even when Marlee had tried to find out from Professor Roberts- probably the grouchiest vampire that Cyren had met. Vampires had a reputation for being creatures that lived in extremes. But Roberts? Perhaps the most extreme grump you'd meet- but that was it. In her eyes she'd heard rumors that he had a wild side. Whatever that met. So as pre-school year ritual she and 'Lee had stayed up, watching Netflix and binging out on pop and other junk-food snacks. Then they'd been off to bed, Marlee first and after a couple more episodes of Archer followed Cyren.

Which caught them up to today, with the alarm blaring and Cyren tempted to melt the fucking thing. She was not a morning person, and was probably most dangerous when woken up. That never stopped Marlee from trying. "'Ren, come on get up. Let's go get breakfast." Groaning as small hands shook her the brunette instead buried her head beneath the pillow. "Please no." But no amount of begging would save Cyren as her friend ruthlessly shook her awake, and finally given in the hellhound blinked wearily almost horrified to see that her roomie had already showered and dressed. "Come on, it's breakfast." Which was ironic because once again, it was pitch-black outside. "Give me five. I'll meet you down there." Finally sighing she sat up, pushing her blankets off. The absolute worst thing about school? Getting up a respectable hour. With the threat that if Cyren wasn't down to the mess hall in ten minutes Marlee was going to come back up here with ice water.

As a creature with fire-wielding capabilities you can imagine how terrible that sounded for her. Then, her friend was gone and the dorm was quiet, leaving Cyren to peacefully shower under almost blistering water her long brunette tresses. Once that was done she was quick to pick out her outfit, and once her hair had been dried off and brushed out she was on her way to the mess hall. Her lone footsteps scuffled off the tiled floor, and one thing she'd never be able to get over was the beautiful Gothic architect . It was like one of those beautiful old cathedral churches turned school, though it'd only ever served the purpose of housing the supernatural. Lighting that she was pretty sure magicked by the witches made it seem as if sunlight were streaming down in the halls, hell it was even warm, though non-lethal to vampires.

Cyren had at one point slipped her earbuds on, her monster slip-ons a few teachers had told her they were in poor taste to other students treading with a surprising noise level against the pristine floor. She had about twenty minutes until breakfast was over, which wasn't a problem as she had a weak stomach in the morning. She was so enthralled in her music she nearly didn't notice a lone figure sitting in one of the window sills, his face turned towards the sky as if searching for something. He didn't look lost, but there was some hypnotic grace that clung to the man. Faltering, nearly jumping when he turned rather suddenly, their gazes clashing she paused. He wasn't overly muscular, but subtly so and she guessed whatever he was didn't rely on strength. Oaken colored hair wasn't quite shaggy nor unkempt, but getting there. Large mocha colored orbs watched her with a curiosity that reminded her the way a snake would watch a rat before devouring it. Esh. Ducking her head, Cyren was quick to continue on her way to the mess hall.

It wasn't hard to find Marlee, being a hellhound meant she could track nearly anything through scent. And living with someone for the past four years meant she knew the fae's scent by heart. She was back near the wall, and for once not alone. Professor Roberts had decided to stop by. Raising an eyebrow the petite brunette marched her way over, head held high. That was another thing about Cyren, she didn't care if people stared or whispered, she didn't mind being in hot water with her peers for something she couldn't help. But Marlee hated it. Slumping down into the seat next to Marlee she beamed in a wicked innocence up at the vampire. "Aren't you a little old to be hanging around students out of class?" His gaze darkened before he rolled his eyes. "Aren't you a little old to be wearing monster shoes?" They had a banter going on that honestly was fun for 'Ren. "Touche old man." He looked smug, though it vanished when he turned back to Marlee. "I meant what I said earlier okay? Oh, and Cyren it's Professor Roberts to you."

Raising an eyebrow she snorted, snapping back a saucy "Aye, aye captain." Before turning back to Marlee waiting a few moments after he left so he wouldn't be able to overhear. "What'd he want with you? Suck your delicious fairy blood? I'm assuming it's delicious because I don't really have a hankering for blood." Cyren often seemed to lack a filter, and she'd quite a few reputations for that. She wasn't known to back down, she'd flirt with almost anyone if it was a challenge enough, and was known to be quite opinionated. Around her voices swirled together creating an noisy din that was beginning to get under her nerves. Just fifteen more minutes. "Also, we should hurry up and get our classes. Most people did it yesterday." Absentmindedly pale fingers tapped the table as the hellhound furrowed her brows in thought. What if she didn't have classes with Marlee? They were completely different beings and more often than not it ended up they only had maths and science together.

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

    Image

Sometimes he had no idea why he bothered to teach year in and year out. Most the kids he taught were brats, and either didn't listen to him, or disrespected him. And Dan was far from the patient type. Being alive for a couple centuries had a way of wearing on one's patience he supposed. All too soon the summer had drawn to a close, and even if it was spent at the school it was nice. Less kids, and looser schedules for everyone. It meant more time for Daniel to do things he liked doing, like art and a couple times he'd traveled abroad. But too soon the leaves were changing their colors he was getting his classes all sorted out. Being a history teacher what a cliché he was able to recant a lot of the curriculum from memory. The vampire had gone to bed a bit early the night before classes started and had woken up at a decent hour; his throat burning. The best thing about this school was he didn't need to attack anyone to get his blood kicks. They had donors that would donate blood, get it packed into a blood bag and then it would be free to take for any supernatural that needed blood to survive.

Showering, throwing on his more professional clothing, black slacks with a white button up and matching black tie; Daniel was ready to leave the teacher's dorms on the other side of campus and seek out his breakfast. The air was cold, he assumed because those he passed were wearing their fall jackets. He himself was cold, though that was because there was a lack of blood in his system. As he pushed through the large, heavy, oaken doors with intricate deceptions of supernatural in various ancient literature, for example the wild hunt was on the upper corner of the door, while fae danced around a fairy hill in the middle of the left door, he noticed the halls were mostly empty. Making his way towards the mess hall Daniel could smell her before he had a visual; Marlee Hudson that was. One of the only students he liked. Maybe more than liked but that was a whole inappropriate fuck-ride Daniel refused to allow himself to mull over. Undeniably there was something about Marlee make his inner predator... Protective. It began when her father had deferred to the malicious political faction of obliterating humans and taking over. To come out of hiding.

Well she'd gotten a lot of flack from it and Daniel and her best friend Cyren had formed a sort of watch duty to make sure that nothing really got out of hand. Kids were still cruel to her Dan was sure, but just not when he or Cyren was around. "Hello, Ms. Hudson." Daniel greeted, his usual silken voice broken by a husky roughness brought on by the need to feed. He was paler than normal, a bit chalky even which made him a little conscious about it. Large eyes flickered up to him, and he was greeted by a small smile. "Hi." She'd always been more... laid-back than most fae he knew. "I trust you're shadows not far?" Raising a slender eyebrow, referring to Cyren he felt smug as he made her laugh. He was full-aware of the eyes on him but the way to the staff's mess hall was through the students and a few other teachers were greeting kids. "She's upstairs, probably still asleep." Nodding, Dan dropped his voice before murmuring, "Please, if you have a hard time with your peers do not hesitate to seek me out. Your senior year should be fun rather than riff-raff making you upset." He'd hardly uttered the words when he heard a very familiar foot-fall pattern.

"Aren't you a little old to be hanging out at the students table?" The small brunette had always been so preceptive that he was a little worried she saw through him, that he harbored the slightest affections for his student. "Aren't you a little old to be wearing monster shoes?" His voice as cold as ice made the hellhound grin, a feral thing that made him question just how far she'd come in controlling her abilities. "Touche old man." Smirking knowing he'd won their playful banter he turned back to Marlee. "I meant what I said earlier, okay?" He'd always wanted to make his student feel a little more at ease with the school. About to turn on his heel he paused, throwing a backwards glance over his shoulder at the hellhound. "Oh, and Cyren? It's professor Roberts to you." She snickered, snapping off a saucy "Aye, aye captain." Rolling his eyes Daniel rather confidently sauntered towards the door that led to the teacher's staff room, his throat burning with the need for blood. He made quick work of securing three fresh blood bags, and took them back to his room to drink them and wait for his first period. If they were little shits he planned on giving them a pop quiz, and if not than a movie.

    Finn Huxley | Basilisk
    Image

Finn had arrived at the school only four days before the first day back from summer break, he had gotten his belonging all unpacked and sorted in his new room at the ancient supernatural school. He hadn't long ago finished studying to become a teacher, however he did have experience dealing with hormonal teenagers and he remembered clearly being one himself. He was given the grand tour of the school yesterday by the headmaster of the school and he had a few hours setting up his classroom in the way he wanted and liked, he had made sure the headmaster knew he didn't want the students knowing what he was. He was never that open about telling people he was a Basilisk, he had to completely trust someone before he showed them his other form and even then it hadn't happened that many times in his life. He was alright with the teachers knowing, considering he had to work beside them and if anything were to happen then hopefully they would be able to help him out. Although he had gone through a lot in order to control himself and his urges of biting someone that got on his nerves, in fact he hadn't bitten anyone in years and he was proud of that.

He had gotten breakfast earlier in the morning and decided to find a quiet place to sit before classes begun for the day, he was sitting on a window still and was watching the sky as it was something that calmed him. His mother kept him outside in the fresh air a lot when he was a baby and child, so something about watching the sky or just being outside calmed him down. Then he heard footsteps hitting the floor and he turned his head to find the student, his eyes focused on the girl as she stopped walking for a brief moment as her stunning blue eyes found his own. Neither said anything and it wasn't long before she continued walking towards the mess hall, he thought anyway as the school was incredibly large and he was nervous about getting lost.

He was wearing his usual teacher clothes, black slacks with a black button down shirt and black leather shoes. He wasn't one for fashion and if he had his own way, he would wear sweat pants and a t-shirt but that wouldn't sit well with the headmaster. He listened to the girl's footsteps before she faded away and he stood up from the window still, his feet begun to carry him towards were his classroom was but this time he took his time as he wanted to just enjoy the silence before his room was filled with loud students. He had everything the students would need set out somewhat neatly and the board was filled with his slightly messy writing. He taught English but he always liked throwing in extra pieces, like teaching his students about all the different creatures that they may encounter as he felt that it was important for them to know about creatures just in case they needed to defend themselves when they went into the real world.

Waiting for the bell to right, he stood in front of his desk and waited for his new students to flood in. His eyes moved over the young students as they all found a desk and sat down. But then the last student walked in, it was the girl was the hall and he couldn't help but grin as he watched her rushed to the only empty seat that just so happened to be at the back of the room. "Welcome to English everyone, I am your new professor. You may call me Professor Huxley, let's get started." He spoke in a clear but still deep voice, straightening up he passed out work booklets to all the students before he took everyone's names to make sure everyone was there.
    Marlee Hudson | Fairy
    Image

Marlee had filled her plate with maple syrup soaked pancakes which she had for breakfast whenever it was on the menu for that morning, she never understood why Cyren never liked eating breakfast but that meant that Marlee could eat as much as she wanted. She had decided not to go home for summer break as her Mom was still spending time with her own parents, it was hard as the Hudson family would always spend summer break together and now it was just the two of them so Marlee wanted to give her Mom some time. Besides she got to spend the whole summer with her best friend, they really were chalk and cheese but they got along like a house on fire and nothing would tear them apart. They were glued to the hip and everyone knew that if you got one, then you got the other one. Looking up at Professor Roberts, she gave him a smile as she did like him. He was a great teacher who actually taught students what they needed to know, unlike Cyren she enjoyed school and learning which is something that Cyren always teased her about.

"Thank you, I'll remember that." She thanked him as it meant a lot to her, she had lost all her friends because of what her father decided to do. Cyren was the only person that didn't treat her like she had this illness and they could catch if they got to close, Cyren always stood up for Marlee and told her not to listen to what anyone said but words still hurt her more than she cared to admit to anyone. She smiled as she listened to the playful bricking that usually always happened between Daniel and Cyren, "No. He wasn't going to drink my blood," She told her friend like it was the most obvious thing in the world, quickly nodding her head she pretty much inhaled the last of her pancakes as she wanted to see what classes she had. She hoped she would get a few more with Cyren this time around but she wasn't holding her breath, they normally only had maths and science together which was great but she wanted more classes with her best friend.

"Let's go, come on Ren." Marlee stood up and placed her plate in the washing tub before she linked her arm around Cyren's and pulled her towards the notice board where the class schedules were for all the students. Marlee slowed down when she saw how many students were already there, but it was Cyren to push through the crowd with Marlee right behind them. Once they found their schedules they instantly compared them, "Maths... Science... Abilities?" Marlee was shocked when they had abilities together, it was the class were students learn how to control whatever ability they had and they had never had the class together. "That's weird but awesome," She smiled at Cyren as she was okay with her magic, she still lost control but it was went she felt over emotional.

"Oh look, you have English with the new teacher." Marlee smiled widely at her best friend before the bell rang signalling they had to split up until their shared maths class, "I'll see you in maths. Behave Ren, don't give the new teacher hell alright. Don't scare him away," She teased the other girl before they went in different directions, her first class was history which Marlee loved to learn about and it was nice because Professor Roberts was the teacher. So she made her way through the school to his classroom, she was instantly stared at when she stepped inside the room and she wished that Cyren was there with her. She went to two different desks before someone told her it was taken, no one wanted her to even sit near them so she sat down at the desk in the middle of the front row. Her normal happy blue eyes had dulled even though she was trying to put on a happy face.

    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound
    Image

She hadn't been expecting to get abilities with Marlee, not that Cyren was complaining. And thank the Gods that she had Marlee in maths and science; her weakest subjects. Technically she kind of hated school, the menial work and the fact that most just assumed she was an airhead. However, she was quite the history buff and often made high marks in her classes. She just didn't like class. As the bell rung signaling that the girls should get a move on to their first blocks, a wicked grin curled the hellhound's lips. "Where would the fun in that be?" She adored making new teachers feel flustered, and she'd been called a trouble student by several staff at the school. The only one who didn't seem to mind her playful taunts and banter was Roberts, and that's because Cyren assumed it was a bit of a stress-relief to be able to dish it back. Most students got under his skin; that much was almost painfully obvious and it made 'Cy wonder why the hell he became a teacher in the first. What usually got his temper flaring was when the students would come onto him. Once again, Cyren didn't really see how most of the female population and some of the male swooned over him. But her's was not to ask why.

He was like you brother's best friend, in her eyes anyway. "I'll see you in maths." Cyrene called as she began to walk away from her friend her figure disappearing into the sea of other students. The thing about being something other's feared; she was given a wide berth by those who knew her. A couple banshee's nodded their heads as she passed- some of the only things that didn't fear her. Her English class was in the northern wing; the complete opposite side of where she was. Grumbling, she broke into a jog as she sensed that she may be late to her class. Luckily, Cyren managed to duck into the large classroom just as the bell rung. However, she faltered her gaze landing on the man from earlier, the one that had been sitting in the window. As their gazes met he grinned, making Cyren avert her gaze. Picking a desk in the back of the room, a perfect spot to slack off without having eyes on her. A few kids gave her a white-faced panicked expression as she sat down, making Cyrene leer with a feral amusement. As the bell rang signaling the beginning of class the teacher cleared his throat getting right down to business.

"Welcome to English everyone, I am your new professor. You may call me Professor Huxley, let's get started." His voice was hoarse and throaty, invoking almost a sense of mystery around him. Reluctantly she glanced down at the booklet on her table, flipping through the pages with a small frown. It was grammar stuff, fixing things wrong with sentences and explaining why- a task that wouldn't be too difficult. Just a thorn in her side. They were saved from diving right into it as the Professor asked them to go around the room and share their names and then check them off. When he got to her, she straightened up a little and said with a honeyed purr, "Cyrene Nielsen. Here and present." She'd been expecting him to squirm a little, or at least look uncomfortable but he was entirely unphased. Normally when teachers heard her name, associated with what she was they were uncomfortable. Pretty much they'd ignore her existence unless she needed something, but Huxley wasn't even ruffled. Frowning as he continued on she sat back against her seat internally groaning as the male said they could pair up to finish the booklet.

This is the reason that Cyren hated classes without Marlee. Even if kids wren't afraid of her, she wasn't the most social kid of the school. Far from it. Unless spoken to, Cyren usually minded her own business. Eventually as groups pushed their desks together, in two's and one group of three the brunette just shrugged, a sort of scoff drawn from her as she opened her book to set to work. As she expected the grammar wasn't hard, in fact it was incredibly easy and she suspected it was supposed to be just a warm-up to get their minds back in the swing of school. About thirty minutes ticked by, and while other students around her chattered she was scribbling furiously in the booklet very determined to finish before the period was over so she could listen to music and probably sneak a nap in. The hellhound was nearly done with the booklet when a shadow fell over her. She paused, looking up, lapis orbs clashing on coffee ones.

"Ms. Nielsen? May I sit?" The professor motioned to the chair next to her and sensing she had no choice nodded. His voice was sotto so it wouldn't carry to the others. "Having trouble finding a group?" With a shrug she countered "I work better alone." There was a soft sort of challenge there, as if daring him to contradiction her. Instead the Professor did what she least expected, smiled in an empathetic manner. "Okay, but since groups were supposed to check each other's work do you mind if I take a look?" So she wasn't going to get yelled at? Furrowing her brow and with a reluctant nod handed over her booklet. As he read it, Cyren searched his expression for any indications of how well she did, and subtly took a deep breath trying to sort out what he was. The scent was completely unfamiliar, a heady earthen scent and what she thought darkness would smell like if it was tangible. Trying not to let onto her confusion she settled back against her chair. If nothing else she could tell Marlee that her English class was interesting.

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

    Image

As the first of his students began piling he tried to remind himself not to look disappointed as each new face wasn't Marlee's. He would admit, he'd had a few instances over the years where he'd nearly bit her, which was understandable. Fae blood was almost irresistible to vampires. Often why when there was an attack on one, it was fatal. He wasn't blind to the coy "Hi professor" from a few of his female students who were more brazen than his tastes allowed for. He just offered a dry "Hello, please take a seat." It was nearly time for class to start when Marlee came rushing in, looking a little stressed. Instead of lecturing her on punctuality Daniel offered a nod as she looked for a seat. He'd be lying if his blood didn't boil when a few kids told Marlee the seat was taken- a blatant lie. He could feel his gaze darken though quickly reigned himself in. Showing favoritism was one of those things that could land him in hot water. Clearing his throat he stood, gazing out on the mostly familiar faces. "For those who don't know, I'll be known to you as Professor Roberts. Anything less will earn you a detention with the dean of the history department. I do not want to hear any derogatory remarks about any supernatural species or humans for that matter."

His voice darkened as his gaze landed on one of the kids that had given Marlee a hard time. "I have a zero tolerance policy for those kinds of remarks and if I catch anyone making such remarks it'll be a two day in-school suspension." A little ripple of protest spread across the room and as a hand raised from a succubus he'd had last year he could tell it would be a nasty question. "What about the supernaturals who have been making moves against the school and rallying support to kill humans?" He knew exactly what she meant, as did Marlee as she sunk into her seat. "In house suspension." He answered simply, his posture daring her to contradict him. "But sir, some of us don't feel safe knowing that the anti-human movement is growing in support. And since this is sort of a historical, modern event in our society shouldn't we be talking about it?" She wans't going to stop and he was tempted to compel her into shutting up, but that would likely cost him his job. "Monica, if you have a problem with your safety take it up with the headmaster. Not my class. As for the curriculum we will be touching down on it when we have our current events, but in a manner that is safe and strictly from a historical viewpoint. It will not be an opinionated discussion."

The succubus just grumbled a "Yes sir." While shooting Marlee a nasty look. Gritting his teeth he continued onwards. "There will be no eating without permission, no cellphones, no using your abilities in class, and no talking while I lecture. You follow my rules, we will have no problems. You show me disrespect, or ignore my rules there will be a problem." Hopefully that scared his students into listening to him. A few meek "Yes Professor Roberts" echoed about the room, and when he caught Marlee's gaze he offered a warm smile. He wasn't cross with anyone, and least of all her. "Today we'll be going over my syllabus so you all know what to expect. If you have a conflicting deadline talk to me about it, and I will give you a different date to turn that project or assignment in." For the next half-hour he went over the syllabus, explaining what he expected of them. They were actually pretty good and while he was still a little upset with Monica he cleared his throat. "Since I know not all of us are thrilled to be back, I'll go easy on you today. We'll be watching a historical document, I want you to take notes see if you can remember any Supernatural influence we learned last year in terms of World War Two. I will be collecting the notes when the movie is done- so I suggest you start taking them now."

With that he was rolling down the screen for the move to be projected on and hooking his laptop up to the projector. It didn't take long to find the film something called The Last Heroes, one of the few documentaries on Netflix. For the next twenty-five minutes he sat in his chair comfortably, reading. Occasionally he'd glance around the room to make sure no one was misbehaving, though he'd likely hear it before seeing anyway. Thing went smoothly until the bell rung and flicking on the lights paused the movie as his class packed up. "I will see you all tomorrow." He bade as they began to march out of his room, though once Marlee passed by he offered a "Don't let them get to you okay? Enjoy your first day." And for the rest of the day he mostly milled about, only giving one class a pop-quiz as they had been completely disrespectful to him; it had of course been Cyren's class and she had not been pleased. And since she hadn't been the reason behind his choice, he understood her annoyance. That didn't stop the brunette from acing it, nor singeing the edges. He hadn't commented on it though and finally it was time for the more supernatural concentrated classes; and his first was teaching abilities. It was a huge open hall, like a gymnasium, where a lot of supernaturals were grouped together. For most types there were one or two teachers, for example the witches had two teachers, the vampires had two, and the were's had three teachers.

The smaller, rarer races usually only had one teacher like the fae and the banshee. Though this year the headmaster, a fairy, said he'd be joining in on teaching the fae. And for those dying out races they were lumped together with a teacher who was either a rare breed of supernatural themselves, or just willing to do what they could. Hellhounds, Dragons, half-breeds and hyrbids all had the same teacher. But they still all practiced in their designated areas of the gym. This is where lore of their kind was taught, and for his class how to handle blood lust and keep their emotions in check. He had been chatting with the other teacher, a vampire who was four hundred years his elder when kids began making their way in. The air was light and rather playful as most kids enjoyed this class the most. It was where they could be them, learn about what they were and how to control their abilities. For once Cyren and Marlee were some of the first in to the room. They huddled together for a little bit talking before Marlee made her way to the fae's area, and Cyren made her way towards the "leftovers" supernatural corner.

Daniel would be taking the newer, struggling vampires while Callum the other vampire, would be taking the elder ones. The bell rang, though the pair waited a few more moments for the stragglers to join his group. In the fae area the regal looking headmaster had made his appearance, apparently one of their teachers along with an elegant looking first-year science teacher Daniel had met a few times. Feeling a sort of brotherly obligation he checked Cyren's corner to find the very new teacher there, directing kids into groups. Daniel had heard rumors he was a basilisk, a race he thought long-dead. Even in Callum's age he'd only met a couple. Apparently they were just adept at hiding in the shadows; and for a moment he almost snorted picturing Cyren's reaction when she found out as likely she would. The girl had an uncanny ability to pick up little pieces and put them together to figure a person out. She was terrified of anything with scales and reptilian, thus why she was straying far away from the draconids of the group instead picking out a spot all to herself. Marlee's group on the other hand was apparently focusing their magic to plants, probably to make them bloom. As far as fairy magic went that was a more basic application of their magic, but a good warm up. Jarring his mind from the other two groups he focused on his kids. "Alright, today we're gonna be focusing on our bloodlust..."

Hearing the brunette girl's name, he could finally place her face to her name as he had been warned by a couple of teachers about the hellhound. But he had been imagining her to look completely different than what she did, she was a hellhound but she didn't look that rough or hard to control like he had been told by teachers who obviously were glad that she wasn't in their classes. Watching the students form groups, his eyes found the group of three and felt terribly disappointment as now Cyren was working on her own. The group of three had blatantly disregarded what he said about forming pairs, so as he walked towards where Cyren was sitting by her self. He gave the group of three an in house detention with the dean of the English department for ignoring his instructions, the girls were pleased and he didn't wait around to hear what excuses they were about to give him. He had stepped over to where Cyren was sitting and took a sit beside her, Thank you." He took her booklet and started reading over her elegant handwriting, she had gotten far more done than any of the other students and they were all helping each other out. "You've taken my task seriously, I'm surprised to see that we're almost finished." He was pleased with what he was witnessing, the task was an easy one but he didn't want throw the class into the deep end on their first day back.

But he also didn't want to see his class slacking off because the booklet was rather easy, which is what he was currently witnessing apart from Miss Nielsen. Placing the booklet back down onto the desk, his eyes focused on her and he could tell that she was trying to work out what kind of creature he was. "You won't work it out if you try to hard, it'll be tougher than you expect." He told her with a grin on his face as he watched a sea of confusion wash over her sky blue eyes before being replaced with determination, he didn't care if students tried to work out what he was and if someone did then it wouldn't bother him. He just didn't enjoy telling people what he was, although not many people have ever worked him out which is something he'd rather keep up. But he knew how stubborn hellhounds could be and if Cyren had already beginning to figure his Basilisk out, then she could be one of the first students to succeed which meant she was someone to watch out for.

Good work, now I'd like to see if you can hand it in before class is finished." He spoke softly setting the girl a challenge which hellhounds loved to be given, it would only push Cyren further and that would be Finn's trick for the rest of the school term. He would push her to make her learn more and become a better student, she was bright that Finn could already tell. He wanted to see how smart she truly was, he hadn't dealt with a hellhound before but he had heard all the stories about them. Cyren was interesting to him, her breed was decreasing much like his has already done. No one understood how that felt, knowing your breed wasn't as common as say vampires or witches. It hurt but Finn had learnt how to deal with the pain knowing he may not even be able to have a Basilisk family of his own like his parents had managed to do.

Finn sat back at his desk and waited for the bell to ring, when it did he told the students to finish their booklets tonight and hand them in tomorrow. "Well done, Ms Nielsen." He praised Cyren as she did hand in her booklet before she left the classroom, he placed her booklet into his bag so he could mark it before handing it back to her. His day continued on fine as most of his students respected him, there were a handful or so that he gave a detention to but the morning went smoothly. Packing up his desk he made his way over to the hall where the abilities class would be held, surprising he didn't become lost on the way and was standing over in a corner as he waited for his group of rare students to join him. "Hello, my name is Professor Huxley and I will be teaching you everything you need to know about your breed." He announced as he actually had signed himself up for this, he asked them all to form smaller groups of the actual breeds so it would be easier for him to teach them. Firstly he gave the dragons an easy task to do in front of the group, next was the half-breeds and then the hyrbids. Lastly he turned onto the only hellhound in the class, Cyren was sitting there minding her own business. I want to see how well you can control your fire, Cyren. Take your time," Finn told her as he really would need more time to teach his group considering he had four different species in one group, but he would make it work.
    Marlee Hudson | Fairy
    Image

Marlee returned the smile to Professor Roberts as she knew he was trying his best to keep the other students from bullying her, if he played favourites then it would only give the students something else to use against Marlee. So she just focused on the movie and wrote down as many notes as she could within the time period of the class, she had just gotten to the end of her second page when the bell rang. She really did enjoy taking notes because she knew it would help her later on with any pop quizzes or assignments that Professor Roberts would give to the class, as she packed up her books and pens she left her page of notes on his desk. "I'll try my best, Professor Roberts. Go easy on Cyren," She sent him a warm smile before she left his classroom, she did know that her friend actually loved history but that never stopped Cyren from starting a bickering fight with Roberts. Marlee carried on with her classes but none of the other teachers seemed to care as much, if something was said about Marlee or what her father had joined then the professor would only tell them that this wasn't the place to speak of such events. So Marlee had to defend herself which meant staying silent and trying to ignore the words or glares that students gave her, once her last class was finished she rushed to find Cyren as they now had Abilities together.

"I'm so glad we have this class together," Marlee beamed as they walked to the hall together, she wished she could take Cyren into the fairy group but she was glad to just have her friend in the same room. Once class had begun, Marlee listened intently to everything that Headmaster Garrett was saying to the group of fae before it was time to use their magic to make a plant bloom. Marlee was given a rose and as she held the ceramic planter pot in her hands, she watched all of the other fairies make their flowers bloom which caused jealously to bubble in Marlee's gut. She let out a heavy sigh before closing her eyes so she could focus on the magic inside her body, warmth moved from her shoulder along her arms to her hands and into her fingertips. She felt at complete ease as the sounds from the other groups vanished from her ears, she slowly opened her eyes to find a beautiful pink rose bud had blossomed into a stunning flower.

But as quickly as it happened, the warmth she was feeling turned into heat as hot white sparks jolted from her palms into the planter pot. Causing the ceramic to shatter into large pieces, gasping Marlee pulled her hands backwards dropping the dirt and flower onto the ground. "I'm sorry," She looked at the Headmaster while she heard shuffled footsteps, the other fae were moving away from her in case she would do something to harm them. "Don't apologize, Ms Hudson. It is perfectly alright, nothing to be alarmed about." He spoke in a clear outspoken voice, a voice that would make anyone listen to him and pay attention. He did glance over to Professor Roberts although Marlee was staring at the broken mess she had caused, Headmaster Garrett gave Daniel a look which told them both that Marlee was more powerful than they expected her to be. She'd need more help then the other fae would in learning how to control their magic.

    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound
    Image

Watching the other do their tricks and whatnot Cyren began to shift uncomfortably. She had poor control over the fire aspect of her ability which always angered her. The hellhound shift, she had down pat. Once or twice she'd predicted a death. But for the past three years Cyren had been having trouble tapping into the part of her that let her sense death, and control the fire aspect of herself. So she watched quietly and with a bit of interest as her normal classmates went through their exercises. When her turn came one of the three dragons laughed, their voices deep and akin to thunder. "I'll go get the fire extinguisher." Last year she had lost control of her flames, and when they were put out she was left soot stained and in smoking rags of clothing. It was mortifying. The professor last year had then excused her from focusing on the fire part of her breed, and more on the omen part of it. "Eh..." She whined, twiddling her fingers with discomfort. Gods how terrible would it be if she set the gym in flames; but that was unlikely as there were several elemental witches around that would put out any fires.

From across the gym her sensitive hearing picked up the sound of a pot shattering and instantly she sought out Marlee; who'd been the source of the problem. What Marlee missed, Cyren saw. The exchange of looks lingering on unease she frowned wondering what was going on. Instead she sighed turning back to her own task. Fire, luckily the male who'd gotten the fire extinguisher was back and she tried once more to worm her way out of it. "I'm more flame resistant." The rest of the class was getting a kick out of her discomfort. Cyren, the queen of sarcasm and sharp tongued remarks was panicking. It was a rare sight. "I'm well aware of what you can do Ms. Nielsen. Just try okay?" Sighing she nodded and glumly focused on her hands. For a while nothing happened, and the frustration was obvious as it bled into her face. Though not being able to conjure flames wasn't exactly a huge problem. It was her mind began to wander that a flame burst to life, engulfing her hand. Swearing rather loudly, she began to frantically shake her hands as it began to spread up her arm with her panic. "I don't know how to make it go away!" Her voice wasn't quite a shout, though she was clearly panicked.

What if she had a repeat of last year and revealed more of herself than her classmates and teachers ever needed to see? A couple of the halflings were chuckling at her apparent horror as the stench of her burning jacket. She didn't have to panic long as the hiss of the fire extinguisher exploded to life dousing her arm with the white substance. The dragon who'd sprayed the fire off her gave a sympathetic smile. For a moment she just took a moment to collect herself, rather hating the light-hearted laughs her classmate were having. With a soft growl of frustration to she took her jacket off, the arm completely ruined. "Again." She spoke mostly to herself. She hated being laughed at and if nothing else than to prove everyone wrong she'd redeem herself. Throughout the course of the class she'd managed to heat the entirety of her forearms up, to the point that they glowed with a ember red, though no flame broke out. By the time abilities was over she was exhausted. It wasn't until Marlee approached and cleared her throat "Hey, Cyren it's over. Lunch time." The bitter scent of smoke clung to her skin and grumbling under her breath she just nodded. "Alright, lemme get my thing together.""Knowing that Marlee had enough of her own thing to worry about she easily slid back into that mischievous and close to cocky attitude.

Bending down to pick up her ruined jacket, she'd have to either find a way to fix the sleeves or toss it, she turned to fix Professor Huxley with that archest grin she wore so well. "So since you got lumped with us you're something uncommon, but since you don't smell like the rest of us there's four things ruled out." Alright, the girl was very curious to know what he was and this was her first clue. She'd keep an eye out for any tell-tale behavior; but since he'd cautioned her not to think too hard on it Cyren wouldn't. "See you around Professor." She pretty much purred before heading towards mess hall with Marlee. "Come on, how was your day?" Listening as she spoke, about the high and low points, she nodded a little distracted. "Remember if you need me to eat someone for you just give the word." Marlee looked horrified making the brunette break out into her bell-like peals of laughter. "Kidding, it'd stain my teeth." By this point her stomach was grumbling and by the time they got to mess hall Cyren wasn't afraid to weave and push her way up to the line, Marlee never far behind.

"Can' believe you got to watch a movie with Roberts and I had to do a pop quiz." After Marlee had informed Cyren how her history class had been relaxing and fun with a movie, she was sure to give Roberts an earful. Sometimes she had no idea why he put up with her. But then she remembered how at ease he looked when Marlee was having a good time it made sense. It didn't take long to pick out the spot they'd sat in this morning. "Do you think that things are gonna get worse here? Something feels... Wrong. Like we're standing on a powder keg." She had felt like that since the summer, but had kept it to herself. It was the way that professors spoke in hushed voices when they thought no one was around; or the fact that she noted the security around school was getting tighter. But what alarmed her the most were the faces of the professors, that forces happiness one used to cover up any troubles. "I mean, have you heard anything from your dad?" She would never judge Marlee for her father, but was a little worried about how their senior year would play out.

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

    Image

It was long, arduous work, dealing with these newbies. He had to physically restrain one girl at one point from lunging at one of the blood-giver volunteers. Another pair had gotten into a physical fight and all of them had their emotions running all over the place. Daniel was questioning for the hundredth time why the hell he'd signed up for this teaching position. He could be in Tahiti now, away from all this supernatural drama. But that's probably exactly why he stayed. He knew how stressed the headmaster was, trying to stay out of politics but it was beginning to backfire on him. How could it not? For those who sought to reveal themselves this school was a recruiting ground; and for those wishing to remain hidden these students had the potential to keep or shift the tide. But either way both factions were looking to the school to make an official statement. But neutrality was the name of the game. As long as the headmaster held the position that they were simply a school teaching kids to learn about themselves there wasn't much anyone could do.

But the second he condemned a side, one way or the other, they were an open ground for war. And war it would be. If he was away when it broke out than Daniel could never forgive himself. As much as he didn't adore all the students, they were under his protection and if anything happened... It'd just be more blood on his hands. It seemed this first day back was proving to be eventful as a few feet away a shattering could be heard amongst the various other sounds of fighting, growling, and chanting. His eyes instantly swung to the fae's corner where Marlee had shattered her pot. Feeling a frown stain his lips Daniel felt worry rise up in his chest. He knew damned well she came from one of the oldest and most powerful lineage of fae. An unpredictable lineage who put out as much darkness as light. After all, she wasn't the first Hudson he'd met throughout the years. When she bent down to pick up the shattered pot the headmaster shot Daniel a look that spoke to how far her powers were progressing. She'd be a force to reckon with, and Daniel just shrugged in response.

And then from the opposite side of the room the scent of burning leather nearly made him gag and finding the source wasn't surprised in the least to find Cyren frantically waving her arm clearly having no idea to put it out. Recalling an incident last year that left her in little than smoking rags Daniel quickly averted his eyes hoping they wouldn't have a repeat. Thankfully one of the draconid males of the class had been quick to put the fire out, though wasn't able to save her jacket. Turning back to his own kids who were sparring with each other Daniel rubbed his forehead feeling a headache pounding there. Callum sensing his distress had dismissed their class ten minutes early. "They're going to give us a handful this year... I'll see you in the dining hall Daniel." Nodding absentmindedly he rubbed at his face, and having no obvious reason to linger headed out towards the courtyard. The sun was only a few hours for rising so this was the best time to get some peace and quiet to himself. All the vampiric teachers would be feeding at this time so he'd wait a little longer before going to get his fill.

Some of the kids here were too smart for their own good, and he'd caught a couple banshees gazing around all forlorn at the place as if something were going to go down. It unnerved him to say the least. Finally when he could feel that he was cutting it close, Dan made his way to the teacher's dinning hall grabbing a couple bloodbags. The second he ripped them open that the seductive scent invaded his nose the man's fangs grew out and his eyes darkened. With an animalistic snarl he downed the first bag, the dark taste exploding against his tongue. Halfway through the second bag he slowed, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth before pouring the rest of the blood into a mug, than pouring coffee into it. Caffeine helped him stay warm and more "human" like. Deciding there not much else to be he headed for the common room of the west wing. It was usually empty so there wouldn't be too many kids to look after, and he could just relax and watch some TV in peace there.

Watching closely Finn grinned when Cyren's hand was surrounded by flames, he gave her some time to regain control as the flames traveled up her forearm. Although her panic only caused the flames to move faster and it ended quickly when a boy, Greg, used the fire extinguisher to put out the flames that Cyren had lost control of. But as soft laughter hit his ears, he noticed the focus that settled on Cyren's features and she did beginning to prove the other students wrong. Very well done, Ms Nielsen." He commented her as she had done a good job, she hadn't started anymore fires which was a big step for her, now he'd just have to see if she could continue moving at this slower pace in their next class. He continued to work with all his students before he heard Callum call out that the class could get a ten minutes early mark on their lunch break, he chuckled softly as he looked at the brunette. "I guess that's correct, but will you be able to work me out through smell? Most likely not," He told her just to play with her mind a little bit, he wasn't going to confuse her but if she has never smelt a basilisk before than she wouldn't know what his scent was.

Watching all the students rush off he took his time in walking to the mess hall, he sat in the teachers hall where he ate his lunch. He talked with a few other professors before he excused himself, walking through the corridors he kept mostly to himself as he would have liked to find a quiet room where he could relax before going back to teaching in his classroom for the rest of the afternoon. Making it to the west wing he found the common room, only to see the vampire that he hadn't really spoken to that much since arriving. "Mind if I join you? I won't make much sound," He told Daniel who just shrugged his shoulders, so Finn sat down on a comfortable armchair and relaxed as his eyes stayed on the the TV screen. For a good ten minutes the only noise came from the show playing on TV, "Enjoying your first day? I heard you got stuck with Nielsen twice, she's a good kid. Annoying and mischievous though," Daniel told him which only caused Finn to smile.

"It's been good and I've already been warned about her, she doesn't seem all that bad." Finn stated as it was the truth, yes it was still his first day there and he had only two classes with Cyren. She hadn't done anything yet to make him think of her as a bad kid, it was just how hellhounds tended to be and act so really she was just being how her breed was born to be. "You just wait," Finn heard a slight fondest in Daniel's voice and it was clear that he had history with the girl.
    Marlee Hudson | Fairy
    Image

Marlee couldn't wait to get out of the class, she usually always liked Abilities class but she was so embarrassed that she just wanted to leave. She had rushed over to Cyren and left with her so they could go get their lunch, she couldn't help but chuckle to herself when Cyren pushed past other students so they could hurry up and get their food. Marlee grabbed whatever she felt like eating before sitting down with her friend, they both talked about their days and she smiled widely. "Don't give Professor Roberts a hard time, I obviously just have a much better class than you do." She teased Cyren who pretended like her words had hurt her, which it of course didn't. "Do you think that things are gonna get worse here? Something feels... Wrong. Like we're standing on a powder keg." Cyren asked as they ate their food and Marlee nodded her head sadly, "I've felt it too. Even the Professors are struggling to appear happy now... I want to ask Roberts or the Headmaster but I don't know how to, or if I'm even allowed to." She wasn't sure if it was her place to ask about everything that was happening considering her father had left his wife and daughter to join the evil.

Marlee wanted to ask and see if she could do anything to help, although she was certain that she wouldn't be able to help out in the slightest. She took another mouthful of her food before she looked at Cyren, rather startled by her question about her dad. Um... no, I haven't heard anything from him." She flat out lied to her best friend which she hated doing and was horrible at it, she couldn't make eye contact and her ears became red with heat. But how could she tell anyone that her dad had been somehow communicating with her? She didn't want Cyren to worry anymore than she always was and she couldn't hurt the only person who had stuck with her through all the bad times, she was staring at the plate so she wouldn't have to see the disappointment in Cyren's eyes. However because she was avoiding Ren, she didn't noticed Hamish had walked over to their table with his idiot friends until it was too late and they had been surrounded by the werewolves. Get lost mutt, can't you see that we're busy." Cyren snarled at the werewolves, Marlee looked up at Hamish and wondered why she ever had a crush on him.

Three years ago, Hamish was all Marlee wanted to think about. He was tall, fit with muddy brown hair that he slicked back with way too much gel and dark brown eyes that made her skin crawl these days. Shut it Ren, when have I ever willingly spoken to you? Never so I'm not going to start now, I'm here for little Marlee." Hamish snapped as her rested his palms on the table and leaned closer to Marlee, by this time the other students had quietened down as their eyes found where the trouble was brewing. "Please just leave us alone," Her voice was barely above a whisper as she didn't want a scene to start between them, "Oh I'm not going anywhere baby. It's you who is going to leave, leave this school and leave us all alone. You know inside that head of yours that we'll be so much better without you, go join that weak pathetic excuse you have of a father." Hamish growled with a warning tone in his voice, "And take your filthy hound with you." Hamish spat with disgust on his tongue while anger boiled inside of Marlee before something inside of her snapped, standing up her face hardened as she stared Hamish down. "I told you to leave," Her voice was raised as her hand balled into fists, without her realising her magic kicked in and sent all the werewolves flying through the air by a powerful force. Several hard thumps echoed through the hall followed by pain filled groaned, "I'm sorry." Marlee panicked as she couldn't believe she had done that, without wasting any time she ran from the mess hall as tears welled up in her eyes from the shock of what happened. Her breathing was swallow as her emotions were going crazy inside her body.

The lie was obvious, even if she couldn't of smelled it. It was interesting, how one's scent would change from emotion to emotion. Sadness caused the base scent to take on an oceanic saltiness that would always make her sneeze. Joy smelled like wildflowers and sandalwood, while anger smelled of smoke- bitter and acidic. Arousal like woodsy musk and a lie smelled like frozen water. At least to her, but she always tried to respect Marlee's privacy and had never actively paid attention to how her scent changed. But, it was like her whole body would react to a lie, her face would redden and even her ears; so naturally she suspected that there had been contact from her father. But, she wasn't going to ask; the whole reason that she got along so well with Marlee was that they were usually open. And even if it took some time she believed that if it were serious Cyren would know. "You should ask Roberts. If anyone's gonna say something it'll be him. To you." There was a playful taunt in her voice and while Marlee blushed she never got to answer as she caught a flicker of movement from the corner of her eye.

It was Hamish and his drooling gang of mutts making Cyren instantly stiffen. "Get lost mutts. Can't you see we're too busy to play with you right now?" There was a dark threat in Cyren's voice as she leered up at them. Hamish however, being a good foot and a half taller than her was not intimated. "Shut it Ren, when have I ever willingly spoken to you? Never so I'm not going to start now, I'm here for little Marlee." A furious snarl erupted from the hellhound's throat as she abruptly got to her feet. A few of the were's were looking uneasy though Hamish was too pig headed to realize he was pissing Cyren off. As Marlee asked to just be left alone, Hamish smiled that cruel sadistic smile that ran shivers up her spine with dread. IF she could take souls to hell, his would be the first on her list. Hamish, clearly looking for a fight rumbled in that baritone voice of his h I'm not going anywhere baby. It's you who is going to leave, leave this school and leave us all alone. You know inside that head of yours that we'll be so much better without you, go join that weak pathetic excuse you have of a father. And take your filthy hound with you."

She was about to leap, summon her shift and teach him a fucking lesson when Marlee reacted first. To Cyren's amazement she watched as he and his friends were tossed away like ragdolls; their backs colliding with the tile making a painful cracking noise. A dark chuckle was drawn from Cyren to watch Hamish trying to regain his breath. Her amusement was cut short as Marlee gasped she was sorry apparently repulsed with herself before rushing from the dining room. Before chasing after her Cyren stopped as Hamish who was trying to get up. Figuring people already saw her as a monster Cyren didn't hesitate to grab him by the throat and lift him up, slamming him against a near by wall with enough force he looked momentarily stunned and snarled "I know your daddy raised you to think you were all big and tough mutt, but if I ever catch you talking to Marlee like that again I will do this world a favor and neuter you. Are we clear? And if you don't believe me just remember- I'm the monster mommy warned you about. Tell your friends." With that she dropped him back to the ground as he gasped for air and stepped over him chasing Marlee's scent.

She was headed towards the west wing the quieter wings. Made sense but figuring she shouldn't be alone Cyrene also picked up a different scent- Daniel. He'd be able to deal with this a lot better than she could so Cyren headed towards the common room, that was likely where he was hanging out watching TV and grading papers. It wasn't a strictly staff room so Cyren didn't hesitate to barge in. Daniel glanced up his face already contorting to worry. "So, first things first Marlee kind of... Maybe magically threw some kids. And I can't find her so I was thinking you could help. Secondly, do you think you can get me off detention?" Surely there would be repercussions for what happened in the mess hall and Dan blinked for a moment trying to figure out what happened. "What are you going on about? Is she okay?" He was trying to be more professional, with a cool indifference and she soon found out why as she noted Professor Huxley looking rather confused. "Hamish was being a bully. There were some names exchanged- not on my part! And her... situation was brought up and she kind of flung them a good five feet with some fairy mojo. And then ran off. So physically yeah she's fine but do you really want a distressed Marlee running around after she laid the smackdown on Hamish's pack?"

It wasn't often he had company in the west wing so it was with surprise when he heard eerily graceful and quiet steps. It was the new Professor, Huxley; Dan was pretty sure his first name was Finn shuffled in. "Mind if I join you? I won't make a sound." Shrugging he nodded honestly too exhausted to speak. For a little bit it felt a little awkward and tense in the room, so Daniel racked his mind of something to say. Enjoying your first day? I heard you got stuck with Nielsen twice, she's a good kid. Annoying and mischievous though." The man smiled, and Dan was pretty sure that was the first time he'd seen of his peers smile when Cyren was brought up. She was impulsive, cocky, sarcastic and stubborner than a mule. That's usually what his coworkers saw of the lively brunette. They failed to look past that for the bright, sensitive, and kind young woman she truly was. He'd heard her back story, parents killed by hunters, parent's friends did what they could until she landed here. Too many kids had that story.

He almost smiled when Finn shrugged, "She wasn't that bad." Cyren Nielsen may of just met her match. They often say speak of the devil and he shall be drawn. That was apparently true in this case as five minutes later he heard frantic footsteps going straight to the common room. Preparing himself for some unruly kids he was shocked to find Cyren burst through the door looking a little frantic. "So, first things first Marlee kind of... Maybe magically threw some kids. And I can't find her so I was thinking you could help. Secondly, do you think you can get me off detention?" She was already talking a million miles a second and Dan felt his face scrunch up with worry. Remembering Finn was there however he tried to play his cool. "Cryen, what are you going on about? Is Marlee okay?" Not even the first day back and she was already getting herself into trouble.

Groaning into his hands Daniel fixed her with stern glare. Cyren, what did you do? She opened her mouth to protest, and sighing he cocked an eyebrow and glumly she lowered her head. "After Marlee threw Hamish I kind of picked him up by the throat and slammed him against a wall?" Great. She'd be lucky if she didn't get an in-house for that. But, as she continued he Daniel was secretly a little amused with how the hellhound had dealt with the situation though outwardly tried to appear stern. "And I then may of said something along the lines of if he talked to her that way again I would do the world a favor and neuter him. And... If he didn't believe me to remember I'm the monster that his mommy told him about." Guilt had crept into her voice and for a moment Daniel wanted to refute that she was a monster. He didn't have time though so he crooked a finger at the couch. "Stay there, I'll go find her. And you're lucky if you only get a detention by the way." Never a dull moment with these two. Daniel was quick to let himself out into the hallway. A fairy's scent was very noticable, and since Marlee had been his student for the past three years it wasn't hard to pick her's up.

As he jogged down the halls praying she wasn't loosing control of her powers somewhere Dan was flustered when he lost the scent a couple times, namely near high student traffic, though he'd found it again. There were no screams nor frantic staff rushing to quell an out of control student. His steps bounced off the high ceilings until he finally followed it to a stairwell. It was mostly empty save for one student slumped in the corner with her knees drawn up to her chest and blonde head lowered. Anger, despair, and horror roiled in her mind so potent he could smell it. "Cyren's been worried about you." He stated softly, crouching down to be at eye-level with his favorite student. "Marlee, are you okay?" Figuring it best to leave out the little details like what Cyren had done after she left he offered a kind smile. "C'mon talk to me." Daniel pried after a few moments of her just sitting there. He hated seeing her like this and he thanked whatever may be out there that he hadn't been in the room when this incident happened; or he may of reacted the same way Cyren had.

    Finn Huxley | Basilisk
    Image

Finn was beyond confused when he saw Cyren burst into the room and words spilled from her mouth, he wasn't certain about who this Marlee girl was but he did have a Marlee in his English class but she was the sweetest girl. So he wasn't sure if it was the same girl or not, she had been a fairy as he smelt it before she even stepped into his class. He sat there on the armchair silently but he was listening in on what was being said, he had no clue who this Hamish guy was but he did sound like a bully if he targeted a sweet girl. Should I go check on this boy? I haven't seen you angry but I can imagine how scary who'd be," He let the playfulness in his voice come through loud and clear so Cyren would know he wasn't being serious, he had never been one to stand by and let people bully others. He honestly couldn't stand bullies so if this boy was being rude to Cyren or any of her friends, then he'd take it into his own hands. "I doubt anyone could get you off a detention, we aren't that talented." He wanted her to relax at least a little bit, worry was plastered on her face over where her friend was but this Marlee had a vampire sniffing her out so she'd be fine.

Daniel will find her and then you two can continue on causing trouble," Finn assured Cyren and knew what he was saying was working when a small grin appeared on her face, leaning back into the arm chair more he crossed his leg over his knee and watched the hellhound. "Just because this boy made you angry, doesn't mean you can threaten him. Aren't you suppose to be the bigger person and walk away?" He grinned watching as Cyren rolled her eyes at his comment, he liked that she stood up for herself and for her friend but that didn't mean he liked her taking things into her own hands. That is what Professor's are for, to ease any situation that may occur between the students. "I haven't been here a day but I haven't seen a monster anywhere, well actually some of those witches can be pretty harsh. But you aren't a monster, Cyren." He told her calmly in a soothing tone of voice, she was a hellhound but that didn't mean she was a monster. Hellhound's could sense death and take souls down to hell, but they also protected all supernatural creatures so what part of that caused her to be a monster? He wasn't sure.

Finn hadn't moved his eyes from Cyren since she walked into the common room, he didn't want to admit but she was beautiful which is something that would only cause him trouble. So he pushed that thought away from his mind as he was her professor, he was there to teach her and protect her like every other student that past through his class room.

Marlee ran until she couldn't anymore, her tears were blurring her vision so she sat down on the floor and pulled her knees to her chest. She cried softly as she felt horrible for what she did, but at the same time she was still fuming from everything that Hamish said to her. She had been expecting Cyren to be the one to find her but she was surprised when it was Professor Roberts voice that hit her ears, she slowly lifted her head as her eyes found him in front of her. Tears stained her cheeks as her hand wiped her nose, "I didn't mean it. It just happened and I couldn't stop myself, I could have hurt them." She told Daniel sadly as she knew she would get into trouble for this, there was might to be no fighting so she was certain that she'd get a detention for what she did. "I was so angry, I couldn't think of anything else. I just wanted Hamish to leave me alone," Her voice was quiet as she regretted letting Hamish get to her so easily, he had always been nice to her and she had really liked him until he turned on her like everyone else did when her father left.

"I can't control it, my magic is too strong for me. I know about my family's magic, I don't want to turn dark." Tears again filled her eyes as she knew how unpredictable the Hudson magic was, it wasn't just her dad who went dark. But there had been other's over the centuries, a great-great-great aunt, a great-great grandpa, and two uncles and they were the ones that Marlee knew about. She knew they had been more but their family simply never mentioned the disgrace on the family name, she was terrified of her magic turning dark because she was the kind of person who couldn't hurt a fly. She wasn't used to feel that much anger flow through her body and she never wanted to feel it again, I need to talk to Cyren. I lied to her, I've never lied to her before and I don't want her to hate me. I can't lose her," Marlee's breathing quicken in her chest as she worried about her best friend, for some reason Cyren hadn't been affected by the blast that threw the pack of werewolves away from them.

Looking at Daniel, Marlee felt the urge to tell him everything but she didn't want to get into anymore trouble. Her father had been coming to her when she was sleeping, at first she thought she was dreaming but it continued to happen and it still confused her. How could her dad speak to her when she was sleeping? She had never heard of anything like that happening to anyone else, she had even gone to the library to research it but she came up empty handed. "I cant hurt Ren or you, what if I get angry again?" She still had no idea what Cyren had done while she was running away disgusted in herself, "He told me to leave. To go join my dad... no one wants me here," She told Daniel finally as she usually brushed off whenever she was bullied, but today it had been too much. Not only was her dad brought into it which she was used to now, but Hamish brought Cyren into it and Marlee wasn't going to stand for them.

    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound
    Image

Cyren groaned when Daniel left the room, if she got another detention the headmaster was going to be up her ass for the rest of the semester. Although in her defense this would be the first detention she'd gotten for getting physical with another student. If she couldn't participate in the winter festivities because of Hamish she may actually lose her temper. Again. Flopping down onto the open couch on the other side of Huxley the hellhound avoided his gaze. He was the one of the few teachers that hadn't made her feel like death-walking, and now she'd gone and blew it because of fucking Hamish Paisely. Archer was playing on the TV which caught her attention for a few moments until Professor Huxley spoke, making her body tense with argument. "Should I go check on the boy?" Cyren's jaw clenched and she just sighed shaking her head. "Yeah, I'm the big bad wolf." She muttered, no bite behind her words. She was more than a little worried that Marlee was somewhere tossing kids around or further upsetting herself; and that everything would be pinned her and Marlee when really Cyren saw it more as a preemptive self-defense thing.

For some unexplainable reason, her English professor wasn't scared of her. Curiously enough he was trying to make her feel better. "You're an English teacher, but I'm sure you're aware of how many breeds of supernaturals are in peril of dying out. My situation is not unique to this school. Dragons were hunted to the brink of extinction in the medieval time, as well as their cousins the cockatrices, Wyverns, and basilisks. Mermaids were slaughtered in droves by sailors, and more recently they've had trouble staying hidden and with rising oceanic temperatures. The Fae's forests are depleted. Griffins are just things of legend now. Hunters have already wiped out unicorns, the last recorded sighting being two-hundred years ago. As for hellhouds, I have never met another one of my kind." Grinding her teeth together She glanced away and continued in a dark voice, "I will never be able to find a pack, the Wild Hunt is just a myth. My race's glory days have surely passed- and because of that kids don't like me." There was a sort of resignation in her voice as she tried to play it off as if she didn't care.

"When you're the only one, others tend to fear you. I've accepted that, but to them I am a monster. That's what I'll be." There was a sort of finality in her voice as she offered a weak smile. Cyren knew there just had to be others out there; but here it seemed no matter what she did her peers saw a filthy hound. Capable of bringing only death. She wanted to tell him that when your races' numbers were so low you didn't know if there were others; there was this feeling of a bone-deep isolation. Which wasn't helped as her only friends were Marlee, Daniel, and Greg from abilities. There was a difference hearing about extinctions rather than living it out. Sometimes she felt like that mammoth from Ice Age. And that was something she could not explain to many people. Even the dragons had a couple other of their kind around, the closest thing she had were the were's who called her a filthy mutt. Giving a soft shake of her head Cyren mumbled "I... Never mind. This isn't something I can really explain. But thanks for being kind, I'm pretty sure most staff think I'm trouble."

As his expression shifted Cyren knew she was right. Brushing off her own sentiments of isolation and confusion of what being a hellhound made her exactly, she offered a rather coy and coquettish grin. "Oh I don't know about that professor. I think you to be very talented." That persona of a cocky assurance had once again rippled to her surface. A kittenish grin had bloomed onto her pastel pink lips as she sat back with a shrug. "If a detention is inevitable do you think you could at least give it? Or Daniel?" Cornflower orbs watched him the way a cat would a mouse. As he mentioned Marlee though Cyren's eyes widened and it was clear she cared very much for her best friend. Marlee was like the sibling that the curvy brunette had never got. "Do you think he's gonna find her before or after something happens. Daniel is one of he few teachers who's kind to her. So I trust him to find her, I just hope it's quickly."

As Dan listened he felt his heart stir with anger for what Hamish had done, and sorrow for what Marlee was going through. Leaning forward he said nothing, wiping the tears off her cheeks withe sleeve of his shirt. "Marlee, everything will be fine. Between you and I that little punk got what he was asking for." Daniel's voice was dark, twisted with a fury that made him tempted to find Hamish and teach him some respect. He however kept a stoic face of calm. "Hey, need you to look at me alright?" Her eyes hesitantly swung up to his and Daniel offered her a small smile of assurance. "You are your own person. There is just as much light as darkness in your family and what runs in your blood is natural." There was a subtle power to his voice as Daniel tried to calm her down. "You, Marlee Hudson, do not have a drop of darkness in your mind. Trust me on this; I've seen darkness in my day."

Daniel himself was no saint. For the first half of his life he lived, controlled by bloodlust. How much blood had he spilled for a cheap meal? How many lives had he taken? If he could find redemption so could anyone else; not that Marlee needed it in his eyes. Reaching out he gently patted her hand albeit a bit awkwardly as he was only trying to comfort her, something that wasn't his strong suit and chuckled as Cyren was brought up. "The reason that Cyren didn't catch up to you Marlee was because she was busy physically pushing Hamish around. Also made a comment about fixing him. She panicked and came to find me because of this." Reaching up he gently tapped his nose eyes twinkling with obvious approval of her actions. "She's in the West Wing common room. Nearly out of her mind worrying over your wellbeing. So trust me when I say, I doubt there was anything you could do that would drive her away. Hellhounds are infamous for their loyalty."

He was always best as showing rather than speaking so when Marlee began fretting about hurting him Daniel calmly rolled up the sleeve of his shirt, and shifting his fangs out bit down. His skin tore the flesh like butter and immediately pulling back showed as his wounds healed almost instantaneously. "I'm a three hundred year old vampire Marlee you won't hurt me. As for Cyren I have seen her quite literally set herself on fire and be fine. You don't need to worry about us." God he hated it when the other kids and sometimes teachers for that matter bullied her. He and Cyren were only so big, and they couldn't always shield Marlee as much as he would of liked to. "Hey, hey he's wrong okay? Your place is here with us. Learning, becoming the stunning woman you are destined to be. No matter where your road may take you, always count on mine and Cyren's support. Come- let's go back. I'm sure shes out of her mind."

Standing rolling the sleeve of his shirt back down Daniel beckoned for Marlee to follow him. He could tell she was hiding something, and he was curious to know what it was. Were there more serious things going on here? Strings being pulled behind curtains he couldn't see? "When I was first turned, it was by something you'd truly call a monster. He'd killed my entire village. and had turned me out of spite. But, I learned how to move on from his influence and you can do the same Marlee. Your lineage doesn't have to dictate who you are. Only you and your heart can do that." Daniel told her, trying desperately to cheer the fairy up as they approached the common room. He was sure that the headmaster would want a word with both of them at some point but for now he'd let the girls cool off here before facing the music. And in all honesty he was pretty sure it was going to be Cyren to get detention. He doubted Marlee would as Hamish had instigated it and she'd lost control. Now Cyren on the other hand... Slamming throats against walls was not an appropriate way to conduct one's self.

    Finn Huxley | Basilisk
    Image

Finn simply sat there listening to Cyren in silence, he didn't bother saying anything in return until he knew that she was finished getting it all off her chest. If she only knew that he did know exactly what she was going through and feeling, but if he mentioned it then it would give her another clue and he wasn't ready to give her that just yet. But at least she had mentioned his creature so she knew of the basilisk breed, "You aren't the only hellhound. I don't know how many are still around, but I've met one in my time traveling the world. I know it's not much, but I hope it's something that could give you even the slightest amount of hope for your bright future." He told her gently as he did want to make her feel better about her breed and her future, he knew for a fact that hellhounds were always being hunted and killed. He wasn't certain on the numbers but the hellhound he had met could take care of himself, hopefully the man was still safe and alive but Finn wouldn't know unless he tracked the hound down.

"I'm sure Daniel would enjoy giving you a detention, I don't care how much trouble you can be. I'm certain I can handle you," He almost challenged her although was he getting himself in deeper than he realised? He could be but where would the fun be if he didn't deal with Cyren and everything she could bring to his life, he hadn't felt this way about a student before and there was something about Cyren that was different to him. He admired how she held herself and protected herself, she was a strong girl who still had a soft side which was obvious with how much she was worried about her friend. He would let Daniel give her a detention just so he could watch it happen, "Actually I am pretty damn talented. Thanks for noticing," Chuckling softly before he shook his head, "No need for you to worry. If anything were happening then we would surely hear it, Daniel will find her and calm her down." He promised her although he wasn't sure if it made her feel better about what has happened.

Two pairs of footsteps could be heard in the hallway and it wasn't long before the door was being opened, the blonde from his English class rushed over to the brunette. A smile settled across his face as he watched the happy reunion of two friends that had both been worried about the other, it made the tension in the room disappear and he was glad that the blonde was safe and sound for the time being. He'd make sure that he kept an eye on things as he didn't want to see Cyren like this again, he didn't even know her but he could tell that this wasn't how she usually was.

Listening to what her favourite teacher was saying to her, she felt her body calming down and relaxing only slightly. She felt better that he had found her, she was comfortable when Daniel was around her which she was grateful for. A sigh left her lips when she heard what Cyren had done to Hamish after she had left the mess hall, "Of course she did. I knew she'd do something like that," She hoped that if Cyren got a detention for this than Marlee wanted one as well, she didn't start it but she did use her magic on other students. "I never used to care about the dark magic, but after since my dad left... it's been on my mind." She admitted to him which she had talked to Cyren about several times, she knew that her heart was good and innocent but she had thought of her father in that way as well. Then he suddenly just left her mother without a word, Marlee found out when she went home for a break and it shattered her heart.

"You don't have to tell me your age, Professor Roberts. I know that your ancient," Marlee had a smile on her face as she playfully teased Daniel about his age, she pushed herself back onto her feet as she was feeling better about everything but she did want to get to Cyren. Following Daniel to the common room, she rushed ahead of him into the room and threw herself onto the couch and wrapped her arms tightly around Cyren's curvy body. "I'm sorry, but you should've just let Hamish be. He isn't worth our time or energy... but thank you." She smiled widely as she didn't like violence but Hamish did deserve what happened to him, her magic throwing him and Cyren slamming him against the wall. "We'll go to detention together, I was part of it so we can suffer together. Don't refuse because I've made up my mind, Ren. Nothing will tear us apart," She told her best friend as she sat beside her on the couch, it was then that she noticed Professor Huxley was also in the common room. She sent him a shy smile before giving Cyren her attention again, they could talk whenever they were alone again.

"Maybe you could give us detention, Professor Roberts? We don't like anyone else, besides Ren told me that your detentions are easy." Marlee turned her big blue eyes onto the vampire in hopes that it would soften him enough so they could have detention with him, instead of another professor that they didn't like or get along well with. Her full pink lips even formed a little pout to sweeten him up so he would agree with what she wanted, "Please Professor Roberts. You'll be more of our favourite," She smiled at him as she was feeling much better now.

    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound

"You're not lying right? I mean I figured I couldn't be the last- but I didn't want to get my hopes up." There was always a drive for the supernatural to be with their own kind, to know they weren't alone. To know that there was someone out there who knew exactly what she was going through. As Huxley promised that he was being honest Cyren's frame sagged witha sort of relief. "If I knew what you were, I could keep an eye out." It was obvious that she was only playing. She didn't expect him to tell her- that would take the fun of figuring it out away for the both of them. At his next words Cyren felt a small blush break out on her ivory cheeks. "I'm certain I can handle you." Huxely's voice was confident, and it made her stomach flutter. Refusing to let on to that, to let him see that he could affect her with simple words; the Hellhound replied with her own cocky sough "You're not the first man to have thought that." At this point she was straight up flirting with the professor, and before he could react the doors were flung open. In came Marlee and Daniel.

About to quiz her fairy friend on what was wrong and if she was okay, Cyren got a pair of arms thrown tightly around her. As Marlee spoke of Hamish, the hellhound's eyes darkened to their orangey-gold depth while a snarl of dislike was etched onto her face. "They can quite easily gie me all the detentions possible in the school year. No one talks to you like that, and no one calls me a filthy mutt. Inbred that one is." She scoffed with a confidence she didn't exaclty feel. "Detentions change you Marlee. I dunno if you'd last through one." Receving a playful swat on the arm with an eye roll, Marlee turned to Daniel to ask him to give them the detention. She made sure to point out that Cyren had boasted his detentions were easy. "Has she now? Perhaps this time I can have you organize the non-fiction book sof the library Cyren?" He was only teasing so she smiled back sweet as pie. "I don't think I have great control over my fire. It would be unwise to put me near paper."

Roberts wrinkled his nose as if deep in thought before conceding "I suppose I can have you two clean off the white boards in the North wing. Alright? Get to your dorms. I will speak with the headmaster on your behalf." Cyren beamed, clearly please Marlee had managed to get him to agree to this. "Thank you D- er Professor Roberts! C'mon Marle." The girls didn't linger, Cyren saw no point. Instead she grabbed Marlee's wrist and began to tug her back towards their dorm room. She had ramen noodle cups back there which would suffice as she hadn't really gotten to eat that day. And there was no way she was heading back to the dining halll.

In the halls students gave them fearful expressions and kept their heads down and gazes averted, their paces quickening as the girls passed. She wasn't shocked in the least. What did surprise Cyren however was the fact that they were only stopped once by a teacher- telling them to get to their dorms. The hound was kind of worried that Daniel wouldn't be able to get the Headmaster to agree to letting him give the girls their detention. Well for Marlee probably but for Cyren? What she had done was very deliberate. That would easily warrant a suspension. Once back to their dorms Cyren swept in, her face screwed up with her thoughts. "You know, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Right? The whole Hamish thing?" Flopping down on the couch for a moment she stared up at Marlee. "I know things have been really hard on you Marlee, but you can always talk to me. And if you're not ready to that's fine too- I am the queen of pretending everything is okay."

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

Wearily watching as the two girls chatted, he tried to recall a friendship he had like that. Daniel couldn't. Letting htem chat for a little bit, he was surprised when Marlee turned to him her large saphire orbs imploring him to at least adminsiter the detention. Her full lips, pink and enitcing, were drawn into a pout that made his mouth go dry. "I'll see what I can do." If Huxley and Cyren weren't there he may of laced his words with a subtle flirtation, but he didn't know the Basilisk that well- and Cyen was too smart for her own good. She'd notiec imediately that he had an attraction for his student and gd she would never let him live it down. Worse yet, she'd tell Marlee and that would make things infintely more complex and his job may be put on the line. As Marlee announced that Cyren had said hisdetentions were easy the vampire raised an eyebrow. "Has she now? Perhaps this time I can have you organize the non-fiction books of the library Cyren?"

The hellhound frowned, and waved it off stating that she'd probably accidently set the place down in flames. "Guess you've convinced me. You tow can go around cleaning the white boards of the north wing. It'll take forty minutes- if I even give you the detention. Alright? Get toy our dorms. I'll speak with the headmaster." Both girls nodded Marlee looking relieved while Cyren just looked... Smug. Per capita for that one. Thanking him the two turned and disappeared from the room leaving him and Finn. Daniel had over heard their last exchange before walking in, and it unnerved him a little. That hellhound had a taste for trouble, and he didn't know Finn well enough to discern if he could be a responsible adult around the hellish girl. At least it wasn't Marlee that seemed to have a chemistry with the English professor. Daniel could be... Prone to jealous and did not want to let onto the fact he could be jealous when it came to the fairy.

"Wonder how long she'll take. To figure out you're a basilisk." He remarked, leaning down to scoop up the remote and clickthe TV off. He had never hid what he was, there was no point it was a little too obvious. But he also didn't have scales and shift into a giant venom wielding, death-inducing staring snake. "See you around." Wanting to speak with the headmaster alone, Daniel turned walking away from the room and leaving Finn with his own thoughts. It wasn't hard to overhear the whispers of the other staff and students. "Do you think she's gone dark? That faily has a history of it..." That made the vampire bristle and grind his teeth together with frustration. He'd known her family long enough to see some of the ones that had gone dark. Marlee wasn't like that. He refused to believe it. Finally his slow, measured steps had led him to the headmasaater's office and befor ehe could the man called in his airy voice "Come in Daniel."

Doing as he was told he found the Headmaster behind his desk looking troubled. "There was some discord in the dining hall?" Nodding Daniel took a seat folding his hands into his lap neatly. "Yes. Hamish and his friends were giving Hudsn and Nielsen a difficult time." Headmaster said nothing for a moment, raising a singluar, slender eyebrow. "Yes. I heard Ms. Hudson lost control over her powers. As we saw eariler." Shifting uncomfortably Daniel shrugged. "Hormones make magic a hard thing to control constantly at this age." The fairy just gave a regal nod of head. 'Yes. What concerns me more is Cyren's aggression. She could of seriously hurt that boy." Saying nothing Daniel let him continue. "Her breed is old as time and Norse gods. Sometimes I don't think she understands just how powerful she is. It is against school rules to tolerate fighting. And Hamish is as guilty as Cyren is." For a moment, he didn't think there'd be much he could do to help Cyren.

"Headmaster, Cyren is a hellhound. She is loyal to a fault and is supposed to protect the supernatural. She was protecting her friend. Yes she acted rashly, but it's nothing that some training won't help her cope with." For a moment nothing was said as the fairy considered his words. "Here is my punishment. Hamish will get off with a warning. Marlee will get a detention and Cyren will get a week worth. I would also like both girls to spend their free period working with an abilities teacher on how to better control themselves." Dan raised an eyebrow but just nodded. Cyren was not gonna be pleased about this. "You may rely this to them first thing tomorrow. As I assume you'll ask you may administer the detentions on how you see fit. You're dismissed." With a wave of hand the headmaster was waving Daniel off and out of the room. Which was all well and good, it was nearly morning and he'd need to rest before breaking the punishment that had been passed to the girls in the morning.

Marlee smiled when Daniel agreed to help them out with the Headmaster if he even could, she quickly thanked Daniel before she followed Cyren out of the room. She tried her hardest to just ignore the whispers, stares and the students who backed away from her and Cyren, it was always hard for her to ignore the students but she was growing more and more used to it as the days went by. Once they got inside their dorm room, Marlee shut the door and dropped her body onto the couch beside her best friend. "You know, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Right? The whole Hamish thing?" Cyren looked at her which caused Marlee to nod her head, "I know you would. I didn't like you doing it, but he really did deserve it. I'd throw people away from you," Marlee smiled at her friend even if she didn't actually know how she managed to throw so many people away from them, she'd have to ask the Headmaster to help her out more so she could feel better in her magic and the ability to control herself. Marlee knew that she could always talk to Cyren but sometimes it was harder, depending on what was going on with her but she needed to get it all off her chest.

"I know and I love you for that, but I have been keeping something from you. At first I thought I was just dreaming, I'd see my dad or just hear his voice. But it started happening most nights and it's beginning to worry me now," She told her best friend while her fingertips started to fiddle with the hem of his skirt, a nervous habit that she had always had. "I don't think I'm dreaming, somehow I think my dad is communicating with me. He's telling me how much he loves me and misses me, how much he wants to see me and would love if I would join him." She finally admitted to Cyren, she knew she could trust Cyren with whatever she was going through or wanted to tell the girl. "But you can't tell anyone, I don't want to get into trouble for this." That had been her biggest worry, that she would get into trouble and she'd be taken away from Cyren. She couldn't control it because she had no idea how her dad was speaking with her, but it felt real while it was happening and her dad did know dark magic so Marlee thought it could be a spell or something that dark magic allowed to happen.

Looking beside her, Marlee watched any reaction that may cross Cyren's face. "I should have told you sooner, but I didn't want to risk you getting into trouble because you knew. I'm not meant to have any contact with my dad, my mom told me that and I didn't either. But I miss him so much and it felt so familiar and nice to just talk to him again," She sighed softly as a weight lifted off her chest, she had wanted to tell Daniel all of this but he was a teacher and she didn't want him to tell the Headmaster. She trusted Daniel but she also didn't the professor to see her different or be angry with her.

    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound
    Image

Grinning as Marlee agreed that she'd throw people for her, the hellhound closed her eyes for a moment. First days were exhausting. Especially this one. This was the most trouble she managed to get herself into on a first day back. Her friend's hesitance was easy to see, and the brunette hoped that she'd be alright. The hellhound knew that everyone had things they'd rather keep to themselves. Stomach rumbling Cyren was about to get up to go cook some ramen in their tiny kitchen when Marlee spoke up again. At she admitted that she'd been holding things back from her the hellhound took a rather stoic face. She had known that. Her behavior had been a little erratic and she would of said something sooner had Cyren not of been worried it would of scared Marlee off from talking to her. However, what she said next made Cyren's blood run cold.

She wanted to cut in, demand to know if he was hurting her or coercing her into joining him though kept her mouth shut. When Marlee went into detail about what was going on when her father visited she relaxed slightly. At least he wasn't terrorizing her- though emotional manipulation wasn't much better. Her first thought was to talk to the headmaster or Daniel. After all what if this was some weird fae magic? But as Marlee begged Cyren to keep her mouth shut the girl shifted uncomfortably. It didn't feel right, what if her father was able to make himself tangible? And if something happened to Marlee? But, it was her wishes so Cyren just nodded her head. "Okay. I won't say anything." As Marlee worried about whether or not she'd get into trouble the brunette's eyes crinkled up with a laugh. "Mar, when am I not in trouble? It's fine, as long as you're being safe." As her friend pointed out the fact that it was nice to just talk to him, how familiar it was the hellhound's heart broke a little.

"I understand. I do. If my parents were alive and were joined with that faction I would... I would be conflicted about talking with them." Reaching out she gently patted Marlee's hand. "Marlee you have to promise if he gets violent with you, or he asks for ways to get into the school you have to say something. As long as it's just dreams... I don't know if that's a bad thing. He probably misses you too." The hellhound had met her friend's father quite a few times. He had always been kind to Cyren; and always protective of Marlee. It was obvious that he'd taken his role as her father very seriously, and had been close to his daughter. And honestly? Cyren had been anticipating him to reach out to Marlee one way or another. But... There was something about this that made her hackles raise. Sighing, laying back against the couch the hellhound was gathering her thoughts. Tomorrow would be another day, another secret that was on her tongue and not her's to tell.

There was the rising concern that this year was going to bring nothing but strife. There were alarm bells that had been triggered over the summer and after hearing that her father was visiting in some manner that made her stressed even more. On top of that she'd have to face whatever music came from pushing Hamish around. Stomach rumbling, loudly at this point, the curvy brunette got to her feet. "Well, it's getting late. Try to get some rest okay?" With that she was up and off towards their tiny kitchen, her feet sinking into their soft gray carpet which matched so well with the pale, orchid color walls. The dorms were far more modern than the rest of the school, they were like small apartments. Complete with a bathroom, a living room and small kitchen. Which was nice. As Marlee shuffled off to bed Cyren's face dropped into something more serious.

She'd be hitting the library tomorrow during her free periods, she'd had enough gym and art classes to not have to do them this year, to try to see what exactly the extent of fae magic was. She'd overheard Daniel more than once explaining to Marlee that her lineage was old and therefore tended to produce more magically inclined fairies than some others. Rubbing her face as Cyren heated water in a tea kettle and pulled her ramen cup from the cabinet couldn't help but wonder if Marlee's father's intentions were only to see his daughter and try to convince her to join him. Or was it something more sinister? To distract her while he used whatever magic he was in order to appear to her, to search the school for weak points? Sucked out of her thoughts by the whistling of her kettle whistling she quickly snapped the heat off the stove and poured the water into her ramen allowing it to soak before digging in. The burning heat of the noodles didn't bother her, so once she'd ate, tossed the cup it was off to bed for Cyren.

Her dreams were strange, fractured images of fires and bodies- and when she awoke the girl was drenched in a cold sweat, and shivering sat up rubbing at her arms. It was just before six and Cyren knew she wouldn't be getting anymore sleep. Instead Cyren got her laptop from beneath her bed and began surfing the web for a bit before getting up to shower. Stepping into their tiny bathroom, the cold white tile making the hellhound shiver she couldn't get this... weight off her shoulders. Like something bad was about to happen but she just didn't know what. Turning the water on, groaning with relief as the hot steam began to wrap around her, Cyren tried to push her worries away she shed her clothing and stepped into the shower. As the rivluets of water ran down her pale skin, she stared blankly at the wall.

How was she gonna walk down the halls now? Having to listen to the whispers and incur the dirty looks of other students? For Marlee's sake she'd act as if it didn't bother her, Cyren had to. That was her best friend, like a sister- and she'd always been stronger. Stepping out of the shower wrapping a towel around herself as she brushed her hair and teeth getting ready for preparing for the day that lay ahead. By the time she stepped out of the tiny bathroom steam swirling around her she could hear Marlee up and about. It didn't take long for Cyren to get dressed and slip out of the dorm. She'd find the headmaster herself and speak with him. Get her punishment all delivered and whatnot. Since the sun was just about setting, though the last rays lingered in the halls Cyren paused staring out at the sunset. It was beautiful and not a sight she saw nearly often enough. Brilliant hues of pink and orange bounced off the walls, casting her skin in a strange glow. She wondered how much trouble she'd be in; so with a deep sigh Cyren continued on her way, wanting to get her punishment, not in front of Marlee.

It was nothing against her, it was just preferred to hear her sentence on her own so that way if she spoke out and got in trouble, Marlee wouldn't also get herself into deeper trouble trying to defend Cyren's hot temper. Too soon Cyren was knocking on the Headmaster's office and his weary voice called out "Come in." Doing as she was told the hellhound nervously poked her head in. "Ah. Ms. Nielsen, I was wondering if I'd see you." Ducking her head she hovered near the door fiddling her thumbs nervously. "So... What do I get?" A kind smile touched on the man's lips. "Cyren, you know that you'll have to face some sort of punishment for your actions. A week worth of detention, with Professor Daniel. Also, I would like to see you working more actively in your abilities class." Pursing her lips together the girl gave a court nod. "And Marlee? None of this was her fault."

The professor smiled, as if talking to a naughty child who was acting outlandish. "She will be getting one detention. She insisted on it from what I hear. She also will be undergoing a rigorous curriculum in her ability class. Will that be all?" Nodding, relieved she wasn't into too deep of water the hellhound licked her lips nervously. "May I leave then? Get to the dining hall a little early?" The headmaster waved his hand as if to say go ahead, so she excused herself with a quiet voice and all but fled. She'd never liked being in there. She kind of hated being in trouble, so being lectured always made her feel a little guilty. Not many people were up, a few blood-donors getting themselves ready for the breakfast rush, and when she got into the near deserted dining hall she took a seat, waiting for her friend to relay the news of her talk with the headmaster.

    Finn Huxley | Basilisk
    Image

It had been early when Finn woke from his deep slumber and stretched out his limbs under the warmth of his bed sheets, it always had taken him a good few minutes before he felt like he could drag himself out of his bed and he enjoyed having the extra time to just lay in bed and relax before he started his day. He was even more excited about the day than he was yesterday, this was the second day of school and even though the students still wouldn't be back into their normal school routine yet a lot of the students would still be more awake and focused then they had been yesterday. He'd give his classes a complete week before he started to lay on the harder work loads, he wasn't a dick when it came to starting another school term but once a week was finished then he would become tougher. He wouldn't allow extensions on handing in work unless the reason was a good one, he wouldn't allow talking or whispering in his class when he wanted silence and he wasn't nervous to give out detentions to students that deserved them. He could be tough but he was only that way because he found it helped most students learn better, if someone was struggling then he of course would go easier on them and give them extra one on one time with him or extra work to help them understand.

After he showered and pulled on clothes similar to what he wore yesterday, he left his room and headed towards the teachers dining hall. He liked to have breakfast early when there wasn't many people around as he could calm him and prepare for the day, he had brought his work journal with him so he could brainstorm ideas for the classes he had that day. It was a tradition that he had ever since he became a professor, he wasn't someone who would just wing it. He liked plans and having his day organised, although he also didn't freak out if something went wrong and his plans were all out of sync. He had spent years training himself on staying calm and relaxed, as a child he hadn't been that calm but he also didn't know how to control himself at that point in his life. His parents helped him greatly in learning control, that was until they had been taken from him suddenly and he went back to being out of control. He was hurting as losing his parents so he lashed out at whatever got in his way, he had done some horrible things at that time and he would always feel horrible about it but he couldn't change anything now. All he could do was learn from his mistakes and make sure he never went back to those dark places.

As he walked into the student mess hall, his eyes scanned over the handful of students that were actually awake at the time but a smile only formed on his face when his eyes landed on Cyren who was sitting by herself. "Well good morning Ms Nielsen, I hadn't taken you as someone who would be a morning person." He grinned as he had walked over to the table where the brunette was sitting, he himself wasn't much of a morning person but he had trained himself to wake up early so he could have quiet alone time before he had to teach all the students. "I hope the Headmaster wasn't too harsh on you, what did you get?" He asked as he was curious, he hadn't seen nor spoken to Callum since the day before yesterday. They both had just been so busy with the first day of school that they hadn't seen each other, he'd make it into Callum's office later that day just to have a chat with him and so he could let the Headmaster know how he's settling in and how he's finding his classes. "Is everything alright? If you or your friend need anything, I'm always going to be around somewhere." He told Cyren as it was the truth, he'd be there for all his students for whatever they may need. But he wanted to make sure that the curvy brunette knew that he was there for her.
    Marlee Hudson | Fairy
    Image

Marlee felt relief wash over her as Cyren silently listened to what she was saying, but she still felt bad because she was making her friend keep this a secret which wasn't fair on Cyren. But Marlee just wanted some more time to deal with this before she told anyone else, "I promise that if anything else happens or gets out of hand than I'll go tell someone else." She promised her best friend as she would never give her dad any information about the school, she wouldn't dare putting the other students at risk like that. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if she did cause anything to happen, especially if Cyren was around and got hurt in any way. Nodding Marlee moved to the bedroom and changed into some pajamas before she climbed into her comfortable bed, sleep soon overtook her body and she fell into a deep sleep which usually caused dreams of her father to fill her sleep. But he never came to her and she was able to get more than enough decent sleep to make her feel refreshed in the morning when she woke up in the morning, she could hear the shower running already which was a slight shock to her as she was normally the first one awake between herself and Cyren. But this would be one morning that she wouldn't need to wake up her best friend, something Marlee wouldn't get used to as she knew it wouldn't last that long.

Marlee climbed out of her bed and made it neatly before moving around the dorm to tidy up while she waited for the bathroom to be free, she set out her outfit for the day and made sure she had all her school work ready for her classes. It was a habit that Cyren often teased her about as Cyren was the complete opposite, but their personalities just meshed together perfectly. Once Cyren had finished getting ready and had left their dorm, to probably go visit the Headmaster to get her punishment. Marlee jumped into the shower to wake herself up even more and to wash away anything that was stressing her, she dried off and pulled her clothes off before brushing her teeth and hair. She had some extra time so she heated up her curling wand and curled her blonde locks, she tidied up the bathroom before slipping her feet into her pair of boots and she left the dorm so she could get food into her empty stomach. As she walked through the hallways, there were a couple of students who openly stared at Marlee as she walked by. She could tell that the stares and whispers did effect Cyren no matter how hard she tried to appear strong and tough, Marlee knew her best friend better than anyone did and she hated causing them to have even more attention placed onto them both.

So she ignored everything and kept her eyes focused straight ahead, she pushed open a thick wooden door that held the student dining hall behind it. She easily found Cyren sitting at their usual table but she wasn't alone this time, Professor Huxley was speaking to her friend and Marlee couldn't help but smile. It was normally only Daniel who would talk to Cyren outside of class, but here was the new professor not only talking to Cyren but he was also grinning. Something the teachers never did when Cyren was around which was sad really, Marlee knew how smart her friend was but no teacher other than Daniel gave her time to show them that. She didn't want to interrupt so she grabbed a tray and moved along picking out what she felt like for breakfast, she also picked out a few small items that Cyren could pick at before their first class begun. Walking over to the table her smile only widened, "Good morning Professor Huxley. Would you like to join us?" Marlee asked sweetly as she needed to tease Ren about this later on when they were alone together, "Good Morning Ms Hudson. Thank you for the offer but I assure you, that being in my company this morning would only bore you both. To the point where you'd leave me," Finn chuckled softly as he answered the young blonde fairy, "We wouldn't get bored. Well I wouldn't, but I don't know about this one." Marlee jabbed her thumb in the direction of Cyren although she was only playing, "There has been a time when I was talking to her and she fell asleep." She told the Professor as she never had forgotten that time, it had been hilarious when Cyren had woken up and found Marlee frowning at her. She hadn't been angry as she had been talking about school, but Marlee always enjoyed reminding her friend of it every now and again.

    Cyren Nielsen | Hellhound
    Image

Cyren was exhausted. There were dark circles beneath her eyes and she was agitated by the lack of noise. To try to calm herself down the girl slipped a pair of earbuds from her pocket, putting her music library on shuffle. There weren't many people down here yet. A group of succubi in the corner showing enough skin to make Cyren blush; and another group of newbie vampires she'd seen Dan training yesterday. That sensation that something was wrong was still haunting her chest, though she just equated it to being anxious about everything. When she felt a shadow fall over her the girl turned, pulling her earbuds out expecting to see Hamish; lips drawn back and fangs exposed. However when her gaze landed on professor Huxley she blushed instantly clamping her mouth shut and her eyes fading from the fiery orange back to their normal blues while the girl's fangs retracted. "I'm sorry I thought- I wasn't expecting you." A subtle pink blush had stained her high cheekbones as she motioned to the seat next to her, indicating to sit with her for awhile. Smiling, she shook her head. "Trust me. I'm not usually a morning person." She wasn't used to this. Besides Daniel, teachers did not like her.

She was trouble, a good-for-nothing troublemaker, presumed an airhead and lazy. Yet, this was the second day that Professor Huxley had sat down with her, talking and not in a demeaning way. "A week of detention. I shouldn't complain, could of easily been suspended or expelled for that." Leaving out the part where she was supposed to work harder than she was on her hellhound abilities she added, "The important thing is Marlee's only getting one detention. Mostly because she insisted." She tried to smile, though found the action a little difficult. After hearing that Marlee was seeing her father, and the rising tensions in the school and just that gut-deep feeling things were about to change Cyren was actually quite distressed. Was that gut feeling an omen? Or just Cyren overreacting? It was almost like he could see past that smile, right down to the bones that crawled with unease. "Is everything alright? If you or your friend need anything, I'm always going to be around somewhere." She opened her mouth, about to plea with him to just be honest and if something was coming; though in the end just nodded. "I'll be sure to remember that Professor. Thank you."

Even in her half-awake state she kept her mind open for any clues as to what he was. She knew this was a game, and she always won things like this. As students filled into the dining hall, Cyren continued to talk to with the professor, mostly listening for once as she was far too tired to converse and tried to throw up that front that everything was fine. Shockingly- she was a piss-poor liar. Especially when tired. From across the room she noticed Greg glide in with his other dragon buddies, and wave at her. Cyren was pretty sure he liked her, more than once he'd tried to coach her himself on how to control fire, and his buddies had made taunting remarks all last year whenever he was helping her. No matter what, he was nice to her so Cyren was kind in return. So she shot a sweet smile, though quickly turned as she heard Marlee's voice. Greeting the professor and a voice sweet as sugar Cyren knew that this was going to brought up later.

As Professor Huxley passed up the offer, teasing he'd be boring company Cyren just raised an eyebrow a smirk on her lips which spoke multitudes to how much she disagreed with him. Marlee was in a good mood, that much was apparent as she jokingly jabbed her finger at Cyren speaking about the time she'd fallen asleep when Marlee was talking. Groaning the hellhound interjected, "That was one time because I was up the night before helping some kids from my history class cram for the final. Which didn't even happen." It was true, ironically she was good at school, and her ability group and Marlee knew this. So Greg and his friends had pretty much begged her to help them and had even managed to sneak her some chocolate from the kitchens- so she was all too happy to help. Absentmindedly she twisted the snake ring on her finger, a present that Marlee's parents had gotten her last year. They had no idea she was terrified of real living snakes, no one did besides fucking Daniel did because one day while she was outside serving one of his detentions and one had slithered up to her- and she kind of lost her shit. So she wore it, even though it made her shiver sometimes.

There was no sign of Professor Roberts, and Cyren wondered if he'd gotten so fed up with school he just fled. Snickering at the thought, knowing that was incredibly unlikely she brushed a stray hair from her face. Cyren was fully aware when Hamish and his friends swept into the dining hall, and looking over Huxley's shoulder she narrowed her eyes. However, he quickly glanced away, a sign of submission and maybe Cyren had done more damage than she thought. Then again, no one really stood up to the upcoming alpha so he was probably shaken over that. Cyren had finished her coffee when she was aware of the far too sweet of a vampire. Their natural scent which hid the fact that death was embracing them. Turning her head she found Daniel and he looked, exhausted. "Marlee, Cyren may I have a word?" Leaning back she shrugged getting to her feet. "Someone wake up on the wrong side of the coffin?" She asked as he was leading them away, and Daniel turned a barb on his tongue though it never left it.

"Sorry... I didn't sleep well." Hmm, she didn't even realize vampires could have bad dreams. He led them to the nearest common room, sitting them down. "I talked with the headmaster, he decided that Cyren will have-" Cutting him off she waved her hand, leaning forward off the couch cushion. "A week worth of detentions. I stopped by thus why I'm up. Now, if you don't mind?" She had about twenty minutes to get to class but since it was English she wondered if she'd get there a bit early to see if there was something there to piece together what Huxley was. Raising an eyebrow Daniel just nodded shooing her from the room. Grinning, Cyren didn't waste her time in bidding them goodbye and letting herself back out into the halls. There was hardly anyone out in the hall so it really only took about five minutes to get to her first block. She didn't really care that she was the first there, she took her seat before and let her eyes scan the room, though no avail. Cyren was notoriously stubborn, and like a dog with a scent would not give up on something that genuinely interested her.

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

    Image

After his talk with the headmaster, Daniel had retired to his room. The vampires all tended to sleep in the same staff quarters, no windows no risk of burning up from the sun in their sleep. Well, sleep is used loosely. Vampires dreamed; but it was mostly memories and for Daniel they were unpleasant ones. Rivers of blood and a sea of pain. All with Daniel throned in the middle. Familiar faces of those he hurt, those he killed strewn about him. Daniel had awoken, his mind scrambled and foggy. Sitting up, groaning and pushing his head into his hands Daniel took a moment to breathe, relax, and remind himself that this was the present. He was a completely different person than he was a hundred years ago. As he got up and ready for the day, a pair of khaki jeans and his black and white checkered button-up. Instead of going down to the dining hall as he usually did for breakfast, he resorted to the chilled blood bags in his mini-fridge. Tearing the first packet open, pouring it into a mug and nuking it the vampire winced as the stagnant taste slithered down his throat.

That was the downfall of eating in his room. The blood wasn't nearly as fresh and was kind of congealed as he forced another packet down. Lounging for a few more minutes he figured that he should be getting a move on, he still needed to talk to Cyren and Marlee about what the headmaster had said. It didn't take long for him to find his shoes, shove his feet in and after pausing to run his fingers through his hair in an attempt to tame it; continued on his way down to the dining hall. Likely where the girls would be unless they went to class early. If that was the case he'd tell Marlee at the end of first period, and Cyren at the end of the fourth period class she was in. Luck was in his favor today as he strode into the dining hall, finding them and Finn in conversation. He was grouchy from his dreams, and he was a little sharp when he approached the two. "Marlee, Cyren may I have a word?" He knew how sharp his voice sounded, though he'd only meant for it to sound professional. He was still uncomfortable showing these two any favoritism around the new professor. Any professor really.

Cyren gave him an incredulous expression before giving a curt nod. Nothing was really said as Daniel led them from the high-ceilinged dining room, quickly filling with students and down the mostly abandoned West Wing common room. As they walked Cyren muttered loud enough for him to hear, "Someone wake up on the wrong side of the coffin?" He was about to retort to mind her own business, though he softened at the concern on both their faces. "Sorry... I didn't sleep well." The hellhound's features were widened mometairly as if she'd had the same problem. However, she said nothing as their feet scuffled against the tile, and as they reached the common room she brushed past him to flop down on the couch. "I talked with the headmaster, he decided that Cyren will have-" The hellhound snorted, getting to her feet and informed him that she already knew. Shooing her off, Daniel then turned to Marlee. "And you have your first detention with me. Does this afternoon sound alright?"

He was being far gentler with Marlee than he would of any student. Technically he shouldn't even be asking if any dates worked. He was supposed to give her a day and then she was to show up. "Uh, you know you actually don't have much a choice. Sorry." He added on, offering a crooked smile. He hadn't given a detention in a while, since last year. As she nodded, Daniel couldn't help but notice that she looked troubled. Cyren too had been on edge, he could tell by her jumpy behavior- the way she scanned each room before entering. Something was up with these two and he had no idea. Frowning lowering his voice Daniel spoke, "Has something been going on? Are your other classes alright?" He never thought that her father would be able to have contact with her- so it didn't even cross his mind. Daniel equated it to the bullying shits that Marlee went to school with, the ones that he nor Cyren could deal with. People like Hamish, or even worse some of the professors.

    Finn Huxley | Basilisk
    Image

Finn moved on from the table when Daniel arrived and took both the girls from the dining hall, he continued on into the staff dining room where he grabbed himself something small to eat. He had never been one to eat a lot as he just didn't need much food to keep him going, something he was glad that Cyren hadn't picked up on otherwise she could easily figure him out before he was ready for her too. He opened his journal and grabbed his black inked pen as he wrote down some notes to remind him of things he wanted to do in some of his classes, the room was filling with other professors now and soon the noise levels were getting a bit much for him to concentrate. Standing up he took his journal and wandered off into the East Wing where his classroom was, he still had plenty of time before the first period was to begin so he took his time in walking through the hallways. He would stop every now and again to glance out a window and watch the sky for a while, but as he reached his classroom he had smelt someone inside before he stepped inside.

"First you wake up early and now you beat me to class, are you sure that you aren't sick?" Finn was only teasing her with a playful tone in his voice, he honestly didn't mind if students beat him to class because that was better than having students arrive late which only irritated Finn. "Are you sure that everything is alright? Is it about what happened yesterday? If so, the detentions will fly by and you'll have your afternoons back again." He told her as he could tell that something was bothering her, he didn't think it was about yesterday because from what he had heard about it. The werewolf had deserved it so he couldn't really see Cyren feeling bad about that, he knew something was on her mind but he just had no idea and he didn't want to say something wrong and then ruin everything. He was even sure if she was comfortable enough with him that she'd open up, he wouldn't blame her if she decided not to talk to him but that wouldn't mean he would give up. He would ask her every day if she wanted to talk until she was ready to talk to him, it wasn't even because he was her professor and had a task to protect all his students. It was because she deserved to have someone else there for her, he wasn't sure what Daniel was to Cyren but at least he treated her like a person.

He set his journal down onto his desk and walked over to the brunette, he pulled a chair over so he could sit down in front of her. His eyes scanned her beautiful face although her stunning deep sea blue eyes didn't hold the same spark as yesterday, that was something he had been looking forward to seeing as it made his day better. Not many students were open to him yet which was understandable as this was only his second day, he was new there and no one knew what he was like exactly so students and teachers alike were still giving him space as they worked him out for themselves.

Marlee smiled at Cyren as she defended herself, the blonde continued to eat her breakfast as she was starving from not having anything for dinner the night before. She really like Professor Huxley and it was a bonus that he seemed to be taking an interest in Cyren, something that only Roberts had been before so Huxley was already in Marlee's good book which was tough to get into. She had just swallowed her last mouthful of food when Professor Roberts asked to speak with them, she gave Professor Huxley a small smile as she left the dining hall with Cyren and the vampire. She sat down on the couch but looked at Cyren when she announced that she had a full week of detentions, Marlee felt so bad because it had been her fault that her friend had gotten into trouble in the first place. Watching the brunette leave, Marlee looked back at Daniel as she wondered if it was just him not having a good sleep. He had been rather sharp just earlier which Marlee wasn't used to and it was quite a shock to her, "It's fine. I can do this afternoon," She told him as she had some free periods in the afternoon which she usually spent studying or with Cyren, so having a detention than would be fine for her.

She looked into his deep chocolate eyes when he asked if anything had happened, "No. Just thinking about yesterday, my other classes are good." She was honest about her other classes but she hadn't thought about what she did to Hamish, she wasn't ready to tell him about her dad just yet and she didn't want to mention something was wrong as she didn't want to worry him anymore. So she turned it back onto him, "Are you okay? Are you really just having trouble sleeping? Because if you are, the Headmaster could help you with that." She told him as fairy magic could be used on many different things, if Daniel wasn't sleep well then fairy magic could help put him at ease. She would have offered her magic although she wasn't actually sure how to help him and she didn't want to hurt him with her uncontrolled magic, "Or is it something else? You know, I'm a pretty great listener. Ask Ren, I'm always listening to her." She told him as she didn't stop looking into his eyes, she often found herself getting lost whenever she had a chance like this one. When they were alone and away from any prying eyes, she felt her body relax completely and she felt like she could just melt into a puddle on the couch.

She wasn't fully concentrating on what she was doing but she had stood up from the couch and had taken a few small steps so she was closer to her favourite professor, "I know I'm just a student. But you can trust me, you know that you're my favourite professor but I always see you as a friend." She admitted to him quietly, her sweet voice was barely above a whisper and suddenly her heart beat increased in speed from being that close to him when no one could see them. A red blush was quick to form across her cheeks as she lowered her head, she hoped that she wasn't making a fool out of herself in front of him. But he was a good friend to her, considering that all the other professors didn't really give a shit about her. They treated her like she'd eventually be trouble for them, they hardly even talked to her unless they were forced to.

Cyren, lost in thought hadn't heard the man approaching the classroom, her thoughts turbid and rigmarole. "First you wake up early and now you beat me to class, are you sure that you aren't sick?" Startling, her head whipping up she found the dark-eyed teacher sauntering into the room, and a small blush stained her cheeks. As he went on, asking if she was alright, or even upset about the detentions. What she was used to was the contumely directed at her and Marlee, and it made Cyren feel a bit out of depth whenever she and Huxley spoke. There was no mistreatment in his words, a draconian predisposition to dislike her based off what previous staff had said of her. So, she stared for a moment, her brows knitting together; trying to sort out what his game was. Did he think she needed pity? Searching his face though, Cyren saw no sign of that. Just an innocuous warmth that made the girl let her walls down a little. She wanted so badly to be able to just get her worries off her chest, to ask him if he knew anything about contact through dreams, or if he could help her figure out if this feeling on the back of her mind was an omen.

Instead she just smiled, and shook her head. "I... I just feel off." While she prevaricated from the truth a bit, it wasn't enough to be obvious. How could she explain that she couldn't tell the difference between an omen and just anxiety. Watching as his forehead creased with confusion she leaned forward so the distance between them wasn't all that far, her large cold arctic eyes swirling with tremulous emotion. "I have this feeling that something is coming. That something is wrong." Pulling back she ducked her head. "I think. But I dunno, I could just be anxious." Worse. Hellhound. Ever. Honestly? She was scared. This place had been her haven for the past eight years, and with the rising tensions that were so clearly afflicting the staff, Cyren was kind of scared that they were hiding exactly how bad things were getting for the school. Since she hadn't left the school since last summer, Cyren had been kept in the dark. The staff whenever she asked what was going on in terms of the rebel faction, was just given that patronizing smile and "Don't worry about it" Even the headmaster she felt was minimizing everything. Daniel had told her once that tempers were rising between each faction and they were looking for the school's support.

However he was convinced as long as the school didn't pledge support one way or the other, they'd be alright. Of course then there was the fact that Marlee's father was visiting her somehow, which Cyren sincerely doubted was good for Marlee. Yes, her father was always kind to the two of them- but power corrupted him and he was trying to corrupt his daughter now. Trying to cajole her into joining him, the creatures that were obsessed with power, with no longer hiding in the shadows as they had for hundreds of years. And to ice everything off in a few short months her whole world would be changing. She'd leave this school, to go college somewhere likely with humans. But what if Cyren couldn't? When she got emotional it was easy to lose control of her flames and even shift into her hound form. Her kind had been hunted to near extinction. What's to stop hunters from coming after her? There were so many worries, balled up in her chest but the girl just felt she couldn't let onto them. She was always supposed to be the strong one. The one that held her head up no matter what.

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

    Image

Nodding as Marlee agreed to the afternoon during one of her free periods the vampire blinked slowly. Sleep stung his eyes and it'd be a miracle if he didn't fall asleep in one of his classes. The thing about being exhausted and around Marlee, was the temptation to feed was almost overpowering. Scents that he couldn't quite put into words made his fangs ache and throat burn. "Just a sip." His inner monster cooed as the girl was talking, though he couldn't really make it out. Shaking his head, he just smiled pretending that he'd been hearing everything she said "-En. I'm always listening to her." Figuring she was worried Daniel made his lips turn into a thin smile. God she was so innocent, the trust she had for him sometimes astounded Daniel. Like being alone with him when he was hardly in control of his blood lust. "Thank you for the offer Marlee. You don't need to fret about me, it was only a nightmare. The past has a funny way of haunting you while you sleep." Daniel, didn't offer much else, he saw no need to concern Marlee as she had heaps of her own trouble. Her technique of reflecting the question back unto him wasn't lost on him; though figuring she didn't want to talk about what was bothering her, he didn't press.

When Marlee got to her feet, taking small and lithe steps towards him Daniel made himself remain stoic looking. He was torn between sinking his teeth into her neck, or kissing her. Of course both courses of action would end up with him out of a job, not that it worried him. He was old, and had enough money to live several lifetimes without worrying. This was more of a hobby than anything. "I know I'm just a student. But you can trust me, you know that you're my favourite professor but I always see you as a friend." He could feel his resolve to keep his fangs out of his student's neck slipping and closing his eyes briefly Daniel nodded. "I trust you more than I trust most Marlee. I'll see you in class." As if his hand had a mind of it's own, he reached out tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. Realizing what he'd done, Daniel offered a waning smile, internally panicking. What the fuck was he thinking? This girl was a child, compared to him. Someone he was supposed to be protecting. Turning around he quickly walked from the room, head down and shouldered his way through milling students to get to his class. It was early he didn't think kids would be there for another ten minutes at least, which was good.

It would give Daniel a chance to collect his head. That could of been construed as a big-brotherly type move. There was likely nothing to worry about, as if anything the headmaster would lecture him about boundaries with pretty students. Daniel had only been comforting her... Right? Shaking his head, leg bouncing up and down he decided to keep himself busy by setting up the projector. How was he gonna get through detention with her? For an afternoon. He'd pull Cyren aside and tell her that they could serve the detention together, wiping off the white boards. That oughta keep him out of a position to do anything stupid. He had known there was a sort of chemistry between them for awhile, or at least in his mind. Normally he'd have no problem going after her- but since she was his student it was entirely inappropriate.

As he set the projector up, rewinded the the movie to where they left off, he slumped into his desk chair, greeting students as they came in. When Marlee came in he offered a polite nod, still a little shaken over his earlier actions. "Ben Aames." He called, starting off the role call. When he was finished he paced to the front of the room. "Today well be finishing our movie. For those who didn't hand in notes yesterday as directed, I expect you to turn in notes for the day you missed and yesterday. I'll be taking three points off yesterday's notes however." Ignoring the class as some of them groaned, the vampire turned to his laptop which was set up to the projector and hit pause; doing his best to act like he couldn't feel Marlee's gaze on him.

    Finn Huxley | Basilisk
    Image

Finn listened as Cyren told him that she was just feeling off, he didn't press her about why she was feeling like that as he wasn't going to risk pushing her away or having her close off. "I have this feeling that something is coming. That something is wrong." Cyren told him as her eyes held emotions that someone her age shouldn't be feeling, the Headmaster had told him not to let on to the students just how bad it was beginning to get outside the school. But it was obvious Cyren was more mature than most of the other students and she clearly wanted to know, Finn didn't understand why he wasn't meant to be honest with the students. Surely the more they knew the better, they could start to learn more about controlling themselves in a good way. But if they continued this way then the students would leave the school and they weren't going to be prepared at all, which is what caused Finn to lean forward slightly even though there was no one else around.

"If I tell you this, you can't tell anyone else. I'm only telling you this because I believe that you can handle it," Finn told her quietly and he had been expecting to feel bad about this, but he didn't which caused him to continue on without a care in the world. "Things are getting worse, the rebellion is growing and only becoming stronger. There had been more people joining them, Callum has been asked several times if he could help out but he has refused every time. He doesn't want this school to be ruined by a war that has been brewing for centuries now, I don't know why the Headmaster doesn't say this to the students but he refuses to." He told Cyren honestly as his eyes focused on her face, he was watching for her reactions and if she could handle what he was saying. "We aren't going to make the students into soldiers, but it's beginning to worry many of us that we may be outnumbered if people continue to join the rebellion." He figured that was enough for right now, it gave Cyren some information about what was going to be happening around the school in only a matter of time. He didn't know when this war was going to start but it was getting closer with every day that passed, he didn't want to tell her that she wasn't just feeling anxious as what she was sensing was an omen.

She probably didn't know because she wouldn't have gotten many omens in her life, being kept in the school's safe boarders would have helped with that as not many people actually died at the school. "But myself and all the professors aren't going to stop protecting everyone under this roof," He promised her as hopefully the school would continue to stay a safe place for everyone good, but Finn didn't know if that would even happen once the war started. Hearing the bell ring, he walked to the front of the class and watched as the students filed into the room and he was able to start teaching again. He let the students hand in the task from yesterday before he handed out a new one, one that was slightly harder but it was still pretty easy and this time he put the students into pairs himself. "Greg and Cyren, Nix and Jean..." He listed off different names and watched as the students moved around the room so they could work on the task together.

Marlee's heart fluttered when Daniel reached his hand out and his fingers gently tucked some hair behind her ear, the simple touch had given hope to Marlee that maybe she wasn't the only one who felt the chemistry between them and that maybe he did return the feelings she held for him. But then he left the common room while she continued to stand there like an idiot, she felt like a complete fool as it was obvious Daniel didn't return any feelings as she was still just her student to him. Marlee lingered around for a while before it was time for her to get to her first class of the day, she sat back at the desk as she did yesterday and again got herself ready to take as many notes as she could throughout the movie. But she couldn't help but look over at Professor Roberts, she was still worried about him as he looked exhausted. She had no idea what he had done in his past as it wasn't something that he had ever told her, she was curious about it of course but she never asked as she didn't want to appear nosy. It wasn't any of her business either so she'd just wait until he wanted to tell her, it was all up to Daniel if he wanted her to know what was giving him nightmares. But if he was getting nightmares about his past, maybe he would know how to help her with her dreams about her father.

Marlee wasn't sure if she wanted the dreams to stop, as of right now her dad hadn't done anything to harm her nor had he asked about the school. He just talked to her and last time had asked about how Cyren was doing, but Marlee being the sweet girl she was had told her dad everything. Like she used to do whenever she went home on school breaks, to her it felt like nothing had happened and she had her dad back in her life again. But then when she woke in the morning, she was concerned about what she had told him although she didn't think what she said could be used against the school or anything like that. But she knew the Headmaster wouldn't want her to have these dreams, but how could she stop? She needed to sleep and if it was a fairy thing then she couldn't stop that, as she grew more confused about it she had been constantly glancing over at Daniel without noticing. So once she had noticed, she focused more on the movie so she could take notes before the bell rang again. She packed up her items and handed in her notes again, "Bye Professor Roberts." She spoke softly as she wasn't sure how she should act around him now, she might have to take a step back as she didn't want to cause him to lose his job or for him to just take off.

Marlee walked around the school and went to all her other classes, English being one of them which she was beginning to enjoy again now that Professor Huxley was teaching the class. The last English Professor had simply left over the summer break, she wasn't sure why but the only rumors had been that he left to go live somewhere that the rebellion couldn't find him which Marlee didn't know how to feel about that. Surely if the rebellion wanted a creature then they wouldn't stop until they got what they wanted, they all loved the power and power did horrible things to people. Human or not, power could change a person for the worst and that is what scared Marlee the most. Her father had everything he could possibly want, a loving wife and daughter, a family that were mostly still alive which was more than other fairy families and yet apparently it still wasn't enough for him. Something that did make Marlee feel cold, she couldn't understand how her father could do what he did.

For the slightest moment she was relieved when Professor Huxley didn't see past her half-truth. No questions were asked if that was the only thing on her mind. Instead he just paused for a moment, his lips pressing downward as if struggling with himself to say something. Curiously she leaned forward slightly; the scent of his suave cologne drifting about her. Okay, yeah it was really nice. "If I tell you this, you can't tell anyone else. I'm only telling you this because I believe that you can handle it." Her gaze snapped back to his face, and she nodded a little distracted and apprehensive. She could tell he was kind of on edge about this, so Cyren remained silent and let him speak. "Things are getting worse, the rebellion is growing and only becoming stronger. There had been more people joining them, Callum has been asked several times if he could help out but he has refused every time. He doesn't want this school to be ruined by a war that has been brewing for centuries now, I don't know why the Headmaster doesn't say this to the students but he refuses to."

That was news, and Cyren wasn't quite sure what to say. So apparently she was getting an omen. Well, that was equal parts good and bad news. Good in the sense that perhaps this year would be the year she actually got control of her hellhound abilities. Of course it was obviously horrid news in terms of meaning that the school was poised on the brink of war. People could get hurt, even die. And if the rebellion was looking to acquire certain species, than they'd be hell bent on it. Not even neutrality would keep the school outta that. Biting her lip, looking down at her desk Cyren wasn't quite sure how to sort this out. Honestly speaking she was scared. As if sensing that Huxley's soft voice spoke up again soothing and rather pleasant to the ears. "But myself and all the professors aren't going to stop protecting everyone under this roof." His promise of safety almost made her forget that the rebellion was growing and they'd be outnumbered. "Hopefully it doesn't come to that. But either way your secret is safe with me." With that honeyed grin she pantomimed zipping her lips shut.

"Thank you for telling me Professor. I was liable to drive myself mad fretting over it." It was true. Much like a dog with a bone, she wouldn't let go of things that were peaking her interests. For a moment the pair's eyes lingered, whiskey browns clashing on Aegean blues. She was certainty not thinking her professor was admittedly an attractive man. Whatever he was. She didn't even know his name for Christ's sake and Marlee would be more than amused if it ever got out she totally did not find him a wee bit attractive But then the bell was ringing and Cyren was acutely aware of a pastel blush staining her prominent cheekbones. Sending him a wink, never one to like appearing meek, she leaned back as class began. This time, apparently learning from yesterday's grouping, Huxley assigned each kid to groups; she was to be paired up with Greg. At least it was a friendly face. As the cheerful dragon jauntily took the seat beside her with the assigned work he beamed.

He wasn't bad looking per say. Shaggy blonde hair and stunning leafy depths flickered the Draconians trade mark of crimson in those depths and a jawline most would die for. And he was kind to her. But there was no fizzle. "Hey so I was thinking last year I helped you with your fire right? If you still need help lemme know okay Cyren?" They had hardly gotten into their work, Cyren working quietly and checking answers periodically. Looking up she offered a cheerful smile. "Not to stoke the Professor's ego or anything but who knows, maybe he'll teach me a thing or two about it. That way I don't take up your time. You nearly missed studying for finals last year remember?" A soft blush rose on Greg's cheeks, while his friend Nix, another dragon in their class, snorted a few seats away. Oh that was uncomfortable. "Yeah, he seems like a nice guy. But offer's always open." For awhile that was the end of their conversation. Being rather bright, the both of them, it wasn't long before their work was finished. "Cyren, you going to the back to school ball thing for the upper class-men this year?"

Glancing behind her as Nix spoke she shrugged. "Right. I'd have to have a very good reason to go." She'd forgotten about that dance. It was next month, and the seniors got a day off to head into town and shop around for it. Which for Cyren just meant no class. She didn't see herself as elegant or graceful; and the hellhound figured that it'd just be some drab affair. "Why don't you go with Greg?" Nix suggested, her garnet eyes flaring with amusement at the male's stuttering indignation. She froze, trying to find a good excuse to turn that offer down. She wasn't really interested in Greg like that. Though Marlee hadn't stopped last year about how cute they were together. It was then she happened to turn, catching Huxley's gaze resting on her with that unreadable intensity. "Uh..." She started, though was cut off by the shrill ringing of the bell. "I'm gonna be late to class. See you later guys." Sweeping her stuff up and shoving it into her bag Cy' was quick to turn and jog down to Huxley's desk, dropping the assignment down. "See you 'round." The girl purred, frolicsomeness in her voice.

Maybe she could understand Marlee's not so secret thing about Roberts. Without waiting for a reply she was off, setting down the halls trying and failing to keep her mind off of what Huxley had told her. Kids weren't stupid, and the worries of the staff were probably something the other's sensed. Still, on top of that to worry about Cyren was going to have to hit the library to root through any and all books on fae magic if she had to. Until she found what was going on with Marlee and her father. Her other classes were mostly a drag. History she was just… Too spent and exhausted to worry about Roberts’ movie. Math and science weren’t much better. Marlee was obviously distracted by something. But, the fairy just told Cyren not to worry about it. Then all too soon it was time for abilities, then lunch and detention. She just prayed that Roberts kept his word and made the detention bearable for them. So, gathering her things from her maths class and waiting for Marlee the two made their way down to the final class of the day. Hopefully Cyren didn’t set anything on fire, including herself.

    Daniel Roberts | Vampire

    Image

Class was harder than usual to get through. It was incredibly taxing to pretend like he didn't notice whenever Marlee looked up at him, big confused eyes due to his inexcusable behavior prior. It was hard to act like he didn't harbor feelings for her that no teacher should have for a student. The entire class he outwardly appeared distracted, scrolling aimlessly through his phone while the class finished their movie. He had fucked up, pretty royally this time. When Marlee had first come to the school, it was just a nurturing instinct he thought long gone to try to protect her. Then as she grew and matured, that instinct had turned to chemistry. Daniel wasn't dense. He was pretty sure that if he did anything with her, Marlee would be willing. The chemistry that often wrought his gut was palpable for both of them.

He could try to deny it all he wanted; but Daniel was more than attracted to her. The past three-hundred years he of course hadn't been celibate by any means- but he hadn't really formed many meaningful connections. Particularly with the opposite sex. But Marlee came along and not to be an absolute sappy cliche, caused his rather dead heart to stir. With desire? With something more? He wasn't sure. His thoughts drifted to the detention he was serving her today. How the hell was he supposed to get through that? He could probably convince Finn to take over for him... But that just didn't feel right. He knew Marlee was short on friends and she'd said it herself- Daniel was her favorite professor. It felt wrong shirking her off to some other man because Daniel was worried he'd say or do something that alluded to the fact he had feelings for her. On one hand, it wasn't exactly wrong. She was a senior. Eighteen, and adult. However he was in the position of protecting her.

Looking out for the fae as an authority figure, he had a duty to look out for her. Going to Marlee with the feelings he'd been experiencing would be manipulating her. Taking advantage of the trust she had for him. He supposed that course he'd been made to take before getting certified about student-teacher relationships wasn't so stupid after all. To ice the fucking cake, Marlee wasn't known to be a trouble maker. She was known as a sweet little thing. Troubled family; but no one would expect her to willingly be with her teacher. No, that was more something people expected from Cyren. Who ironically enough hadn't shown much interest in the opposite or same sex. She was content being on her own; or at least made a good show of that. No, Marlee needed his help and guidance. He couldn't cloud her thoughts or actions, or even complicate her life more by even entertaining the idea of a relationship. So for both their sakes; Roberts would make a good go of just being friendly with her. Nothing more nothing less.

Jarred out of his thoughts by small hands carefully putting down articulate notes of the film he glanced up to find Marlee standing there. Apparently the bell had rung, but being so deep in his thoughts Daniel hadn't even noted. "Goodbye Professor Roberts." There was that lingering sort of hurt as if she was confused if she'd done something earlier. Trying to assure her everything was fine he gave the girl a warm smile. "I'll see you later Marlee. Have a good day." And then like that she was gone, breaking his heart a little with the choice Daniel had come to. The rest of his classes were slow. Even Cyren seemed oddly quiet when she slunk into his class. Her eyes were dark with a dullness he hadn't seen for awhile. However, when that class was let out and he questioned her on it the girl just waved it off.

"I'm tired okay Roberts? I'll be fine." While she wasn't outright snappy there was a firmness to her voice that made Daniel nod. After informing her that the detention would be served today, at least the first of her's, Cyren just nodded and scurried off. Only the second day in and already tension was beginning wrap it's tendrils around everyone's throats. All too soon the bell for his last academic class was ringing and it was time for abilities. Dan couldn't imagine the vampires he had to teach being anymore pliable to learning how to control themselves than they had been yesterday- so he wasn't exactly looking forward to it. Then the Headmaster's bidding The girls are going to have a new more rigorous abilities class snaked it's way through his mind. He wondered what exactly they were to have in store for them.

Also I had a plot idea of something happening at a fall formal or something 3:} Something to do with the rebellion or Marlee's dad. Also Hamish should 100% be working for the rebellion but no one realizes it because mostly everyone is busy ostracizing Marlee.

During the class as he sat at his desk, he tried to make himself look like he was doing work. But really he wasn't, his mind was busy running as he thought about what he told Cyren. He knew he shouldn't have and that he could get into trouble because of it, but he felt like she needed to know much like all the students should know as they had a right to. It was the students who would be graduating and going out into a war that they could have been prepared for a long time ago, but again it wasn't his place but he trusted the hellhound to keep it to herself. Besides maybe this news could help her control herself a little bit faster, now she has a good reason to learn because it will most likely keep her alive. But he also found himself glancing over at Cyren as she worked with Greg, who she seemed to be alright with so Finn now knew that not everyone in the school thought Cyren was just trouble.

He had felt a bit worried when he was making pairs for the class, he didn't know who Cyren got along with enough to be able to work in class with. But he remembered yesterday that Greg helped out in abilities class which was the only reason why he paired them up today in class, so far it seemed fine until Nix spoke to Cyren who suddenly became flustered. Her whiskey brown eyes widened but her delicious lips weren't moving, so far Finn hadn't seen a problem when Cyren wasn't talking so for her to stumble on her words was something that interested Finn.

He couldn't hear what had been said, but by how quickly Cyren gathered her belongings and left, it wasn't something that she either wanted to hear or it had made her uncomfortable. He simply gave her a nod of his head as the students left his room and he tidied up before more students arrived, the day went slowly which he hadn't been expecting for the second day back but he wanted to check on Cyren and see how she was doing now that she knew some of what was happening outside the school grounds. But he had to get through a few classes before he could see her again, he packed up after his last class and headed towards the abilities hall.

He and the other teachers had arrived before the students, not that it surprised him because he knew how kids could drag their feet when they wanted to. But once the class was filled, he turned to his little group of... well misfits so he could begin teaching them. This time he gave each little group a task to master within the class time, he wasn't having them do the task in front of the group as he felt that wouldn't work in teaching them. So as the groups helped each other, he turned to Cyren so he could help her.

"Alright Miss Nielsen, I want to see a spark from each finger tip starting with your thumb." He told her as he wanted to start slow with Cyren today, he had quickly learnt from yesterday that she needed more help from him than he first thought, but that was completely fine with him as he was there to be a teacher and he was going to do his job well. So she stood there in front of the brunette and waited patiently, from the corner of his eye he noticed Greg glancing over at Cyren every now and again but the rest of the group seemed to be occupied with the tasks he had given them.

He watched her right hand and saw a tiny spark for only a second, but it was enough for him. "That's it, Cyren. But try to hole each spark for a little longer, say five seconds." He encouraged her with a smile as he continued to watch her, the concentration on her pretty face made her look even more beautiful. What? Finn shook that thought from his mind, however the thought had lingered in his mind longer than it should have. Cyren was his student, he was there to teach and protect. He couldn't find any student beautiful, it would cost him his career as no other school would want him if he tried anything with a student. No matter how attractive Cyren was.

Finn had gotten distracted for only a moment but in that moment, Cyren's spark had turned into a fire that was quickly travelling up her pinky finger and was soon engulfing her right hand. "Cyren look at me, just stay calm. Calm your mind," He told her quietly but she still wasn't controlling the fire which was now spreading along her forearm, he could hear her friend's voice and light footsteps running towards them but his main concern was Cyren and making her regain control of her fire.

She wanted to tell Cyren what had happened between her and Daniel, but she wasn't sure how to. She wouldn't hear the end of it if she told her best friend that she liked a professor more than a student ever should, but she has harbored the biggest crush on Daniel for a few years now. It all started with a little school girl crush, that she thought she'd get over once she started dating or liking boys her own age. But the crush only ever grew and it wasn't long before the crush turned into actual feelings for him, even when she had dated Hamish she always compared him to Daniel and of course no one could ever come close to Daniel in any way. She wanted to tell Daniel about how she felt about him, but she didn't want to get him into any trouble. She didn't want him to be fired from his job and have to leave the school, if he did then who else was there to keep her safe and made her feel wanted.

So once his class was finished, she walked out and went to all her other classes. She sat beside Cyren in Maths and Science but even she seemed distracted by something. Marlee didn't want to ask her then so she'd wait until they went to lunch and they could speak in private, the day was dragging on so it felt like forever and like the day wouldn't end. But it was as she pulled herself into the abilities hall which was the last class she had for the day, she gave Cyren a small nudge as they went their separate ways. Don't burn anything today," Marlee smiled as she teased her friend, she watched Cyren walk over to where Professor Huxley was standing. Her eyes immediately went over to Professor Roberts next out of habit, but today she didn't let her eyes linger on him like she always did. She was still confused about what happened between them this morning, but she needed to push all of that to the back of her mind. She needed to focus on her magic if she ever wanted to control it, there weren't many senior fairies who couldn't control most of their magic. There were only a small handful of fae in her group that the Headmaster was teaching, so she stood there listening to what he was telling them as she wanted to remember everything.

Today they were each given a seed and their task was to make it bloom, the Headmaster gave them all some time to work on it themselves. But the other fae all formed a little group which it was clear to Marlee that she wasn't welcomed into, she could hear them all helping each other in hushed voices like if Marlee overheard then she could copy them. "It's okay, just ignore them." Marlee whispered to herself as her deep sky blue eyes stared at the seed, all most daring it to bloom in her palm. But what she wasn't expecting was the seed to move in her palm before it slowly begun to grow and turn into a stem, she watched shocked as a pretty flower grew before stopping this time. A wide smile formed across her face as Callum congratulated her on being the first to make the seed turn into a flower, she felt so proud of herself that she had done it without anyone's help.

But her good mood didn't last all that long before she became aware of Cyren once again, she watched fire traveling from Cyren's hand onto her arm. Marlee didn't bother thinking as she dropped her flower to the ground and ran across the hall to where her friend was standing, "Cyren. It's okay, don't be scared of the fire. You can control it, I know you can." She spoke quietly to her friend as she went to reach out and comfort Cyren, only to have Professor Huxley stop her. "The fire may not hurt Cyren, but it would still hurt you." Finn told Marlee as he had grabbed her wrist and quickly pulled her hand back before the fire could burn her skin, Marlee never thought of it like that. She just always assumed that Cyren wouldn't let her fire hurt her, but if she couldn't control it then maybe Professor Huxley was right. She could get hurt if she went to close.
Yes! Hamish needs to be working for the rebellion! Should his family secretly be working for them too or just Hamish? I did have an idea for Marlee, I want her to either sense her dad or like hear his voice in her head so of course she follows it. He could be outside the school's front gate because he can't get inside the grounds, they could talk and Marlee could just be able to step through the gates when Daniel could grab her and pull her back. But that could happen later, I feel like something should happen at the formal that will involve Marlee and Cyren.

I hope that you're great-gram is alright and I hate when people make me sick, it's the worst thing ever.
