Hello everyone! I guess I’ll start this off with a confession: one of my all-time biggest pet peeves in online fic is the complete lack of physical diversity when it comes to characters (especially female characters) in stories. It seems like almost every story features these perfect and physically flawless characters when the majority of people living and breathing out there in the world don’t fit into those narrow guidelines.
I find it personally a little discouraging and hard to relate to most female characters when it comes to body type because I’ve always been a little on the thicker side, and it seems that, whenever a curvy girl is featured in fic, her only characteristic is that she isn’t skinny and the story generally focuses on this girl getting harassed and bullied for her size or hating herself due to her size. Usually, some guy steps in and makes her “realize” that she’s beautiful
I think it’s about time that we break those stereotypes, yeah? Because everyone can be beautiful, regardless their shape, size, skin color, height, facial characteristics, etc, etc.
The objective: The main objective of this contest is to write a oneshot centered around a character who doesn’t necessarily fit the norm when it comes to characters in online fic, who doesn’t adhere to society’s ideal of beauty, and showcase them in a positive light.
The key word here is positive. This is not a contest centered around bullying, eating disorders, or fat-shaming. I don't wanna read another story about how a character who's a little different is harassed because they're different, that's not what this contest is about. Also, this contest isn't only about "curvy" characters, however you want to make your character different from the physical norm is totally up to you.
Rules:
1. This is a given, but please abide by Mibba’s rules and guidelines.
2. Fanfiction, original fiction, and true stories are all accepted.
3. Any ratings, pairings, subject matter, etc is fine by me.
4. I’d prefer nothing prewritten for this one. The purpose of this contest is to increase the character diversity in stories = post more stories
5. No minimum or maximum word count, but let’s please try to keep it to oneshots only.
6. Good grammar is a must. After all, this is a writing contest.
7. As far as layouts go, they don’t factor into my judging at all, so I don’t care if it’s pretty. I just need to be able to read it.
8. Please link back to this contest.
