Something that stops others from highlighting stories and copying them. I don't know but I thought it would be helpful.

    anyone thinks so too?

I think there are too many ways around it to make it a way to stop plagiarism. If someone really wants to steal a story then they'll find a way, unfortunately. It would be cool if our story was uploaded as a sort of jpeg format so there was no text to copy. I'm sure typing it all out by hand would stop a few. But that's pretty impractical.

Well yeah I get what you're saying but there are ways around the thing blocking someone from immediately highlighting the text if they really wanted to get to it. It doesn't mean they can't copy it; it just makes it slightly harder for them. Kinda like with Instagram how you can't right-click and save someone's photo? And yet these photos are still copied and posted elsewhere, like Tumblr, etc. There are ways around stuff like that.

Wattpad does this (not being able to copy the text) and I love it. The coding of the writing also makes it a little difficult to copy and paste from the page code. The only way to actually copy the text is to either type it out yourself or delete a bunch of code from the page source. True it doesn't make it impossible to copy, it just makes it a little harder.

Fanfiction.net does the anti-right click thing but I laughed because on mobile, it doesn't work. Everyone has the access to copy on mobile if they wanted to go through the trouble. And many people on both Wattpad and Fanfiction.net have had stories stolen. It's really unfortunate, but it happens no matter what. Mostly I'm just salty because I highlight to keep track of what I'm reading. I have a lot of trouble sometimes with the lines, and so I drag my mouse to highlight. It's why I don't read from FF or Wattpad from my computer anymore.

I don't know if it's possible but I think something that prevents a story from going through if the text is recognized would be good. But then this would probably get in the way of people who quote, say for fanfiction, the same passage from the book/show they're writing about. Or with lyrics.

I do this a lot too, especially if my contacts are acting up, so I dislike sites where I don't at least have this as an option as well. Mostly because moving my finger along the computer to keep track (especially in more dense paragraphs) makes me feel a little dumb.

To add on to this, another issue is that some people do the story from multiple points of view in separate stories and the vast majority of dialogue and even a great deal of the descriptions of things external from the characters are pretty much going to be the same. So those stories would instantly get flagged and prevented from being posted.

Plus, I'm not sure how that system would stop people from stealing from other websites and posting them on mibba. Because let's face it, even if this system works 100000% and they can't copy/paste anything from mibba or even upload copied materials into mibba, then we get into an issue of people just stealing stuff from other sites. And if we prevent people from stealing from other sites (which I'm not sure how we would do that) then we run into the issue of the fact that many of us post our stories on multiple sites and that opens up a whole new can of worms.

TL;DR? Basically I'm saying that while I appreciate the sentiment and I understand the frustration, I just don't think preventing people from copying text on their computers will actually do much.

OH AND I NEED CTRL + C SO I CAN EDIT OR GIVE PROPER FEEDBACK WITH MISTAKES.
IF MIBBA WAS TO GET RID OF CTRL + C I'D PROBABLY NEVER COMMENT ON ANYTHING AND I WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE MY SHOP.

    @ CallusedSilk
LOL I'm so not articulate. I mean it will be run through Google or whatever - the detection system would run it through the internet so if it matches off-site even it can't go up. BUT hey I've slept and unless we have a system where we can connect "known accounts" from other sites so our own work doesn't get in our way, Mibbians would only ever be able to post on Mibba Facepalm

Imo you're right. Anything that could prevent legit plagiarism runs into a wall so we should just punish those who plagiarize as it happens, and if we see our work copied, contact the website in question. Published/printed authors have to do as much when they see their stuff is being plagiarized or spread around, we should do the same.

Sorry for the delay. Mibba decided to not alert me or maybe during one of the times my internet died I missed this one. IDK.

Anyway, even searching off site would become an issue, because like I pointed out before, some people post their stories on multiple sites. I have some of my short stories on AO3. If I post it on there first and then post it on mibba, my own stories would show up as being plagiarized from AO3. So yeah, it would require some sort of negotiation with other writing sites to fix that and that's a huge mess.

You can copy easily from wattpad. You just save all the pages and then select the all the page and paste it on a doc. :(

    Totally posted this today!

    This is what I wrote:

I absolutely love what I see on Mibba. The community, the intellectually stimulative conversations, the broad expanse of imagination and what people are willing to share, giving me the blessed chance to read.

But, I don't particularly like how anyone can [technically] steal anything.

I like how Mibba is structured, but I wish Mibba had the feature that Wattpad has in having it so no one can just right-click and drag to copy anything anyone has posted.

I just feel safer to know that my creations would not be so simple to grab if no one could copy when it is posted, and the only way to take it is to either write it word-for-word, or go on the account that posted it and edit.

So would it ever be possible to create a feature on here that enables no ability to copy/steal? I just find it a level of comfort and security at the idea that whatever I post, or anyone posts, it will not be so simple to take.

So yes, I think this should be a thing!

I wish this worked. Imagine how many stories it would save from being copied!
But unfortunately one Google search is all it takes to figure out a way around the "no right click" on sites like Wattpad if one really wanted to :/
I think if its really important that no one steals your work (ie if you plan to publish it one day) then you probably shouldn't post it online, just to be on the safe side. I wish people would just be decent human beings.
