Reece had kept silent since they had pulled up. He kept close to Katie, following her lead. After the woman left he turned to her, "can't we just stick by ourselves, forget them,' he whispered.

Katie sighed. "We won't be sleeping in the same room. You will need to make allies with someone otherwise your going to get... trust me you need an ally." she said and touched his hand. "I will weed out those that just want you use you and those that actually might help you in a sticky situation." she said and bit her lip. "But you're going to have to make the friendship Reece. Please I don't want to have to worry about you when your sleeping or in the bathroom, and think about it these kids have less than we do so you need a friend who will watch your things and your back." she said and sighed. "I told you this was not going to be easy. having a bad parent is actually easier than having bad kids." she said softly.

Reece frowned, he wasn't sure how to react. He looked at her, "how long do we have to stay here?" he asked

Katie sighed and touched his hand again. "I don't know Reece. That's not the important part, the important part is staying together." she said softly. "This is going to be hard and a lot to adjust to but it's important you follow my instructions. It's the only way you are going to get through this okay?" she asked him. "Look worse case we will be out of this mess in a few years. In the mean time we just figure out a way to deal with it."

Reece nodded, "okay I'll follow your lead, I just don't understand why its going to be so shit," he noted. He just wanted a roof over his head.

Katie sighed. "Because I know these types of kids Reece. But if you want to figure it out yourself then fine but don't come crying to me when it happens. We don't know how long we will be here and until then we are just going to have to deal with what is here and just from wha I have seen it looks like one of the ones I have been in before and I made the mistakes I am warning you about. I've been through this." she said and sat back. She shook her head. She looked scared and sad. She didn't want to go through the foster system again.

Reece nodded softly, "I know I'm sorry," he said softly. He sat down next to her, "how are you feeling?" he asked softly putting his arm around her.

Katie leaned into him and closed her eyes. "I'm freaking out Reece. I don't want to go through this all again. It was hard enough to get adopted, it's just not fair! And I know it's even worse for you and the last thing I want is for you to have to suffer more but no matter what I do you will in this environment and there is no way I can save you." she said her eyes tearing up.

Reece nodded lightly, "we'll be okay, we will figure it out,' he reassured her
