This was the first time Lacey lived on her own in a completely different city miles away from her parents. Here, she could be independent and prove to her parents that she could actually take care of herself without them looming over her shoulder. It didn't help either that she came from a small town where every person knew each other's name and business. There was little privacy, and Lacey couldn't go a block without someone asking how her parents were doing, which made this a huge change from her usual scenery. It was nerve-wrecking but exciting at the same time for the young girl. She came to the city with big dreams and hopes of getting a job and becoming successful enough to send money back home to her parents. All she ever wanted was a chance to have some freedom and breathing room, and, now she could finally fulfill that dream.

After unpacking numerous boxes, she passed out without even bothering to make some dinner and awoke to the loudest growl from stomach the following morning. She groaned and eventually rolled off the edge of the bed, landing on the floor with loud thump. Her morning could have started off better, but she was still determined to at least find a job today. One burnt toast and under cooked egg later, Lacey vowed to watch the cooking channel later to improve. Changing into a fresh set of clothes, she ventured down onto the street and found a quaint coffee shop on the corner with a help wanted sign. Entering inside, she was met with the smell of coffee beans and took in the soothing green walls. The barista was yelling orders as customers seemed endlessly flow in and out of the small shop. When she reached the front of the line, Lacey was a bit flustered but eventually spat out her words,"I saw you had a, uh, help wanted sign?" The barista whose name tag read 'Amy' lit up and turned her head toward the back to call out for the manager. "Just take a seat and the manager will find you. It's a bit crowded but there's a seat over there," Amy stated, gesturing the open seat across from a young man. Lacey gave a small nod and ordered a cup of coffee to go.

Feeling a knot beginning to form in her stomach, she made her way over toward the open seat. "Um, do you mind if I join you?" She asked with a sheepish smile. When she locked eyes with him, she took in his bright blues paired with a strong jawline and wanted to flee in the other direction. He was handsome to say that least. It was enough pressure that she could have an interview in the next few moments that she didn't prepare for and now this man was just staring at her. "It'll only be for a few minutes. I have to talk to the manager," She trailed off, scanning the room to find no other chairs.
A couple months after the incident at Blackwood Pines, Matt felt like his life was finally starting to piece itself back together. He had visited therapists to help the trauma of what he'd been through, but no one turly understood what it was like other than his group of friends. Whenever they saw each other though, it was like being reminded of the past and was too difficult. The only person that even still spoke to him was Emily, his girlfriend, but their relationship was even more rocky than it was before. If Matt left her alone for more than two hours, she panicked and blew up his phone in search of him. She barely left the house and her social life tanked. Emily dropped out of high school and moved in with him to be by his side at every single moment. Needless to say, she was a mess, and he felt as though he was suffocating. Still, Matt couldn't leave her like that. He couldn't and wouldn't be that guy. Despite the events, he managed to push through and attempt to make something of this like in hopes that it wasn't too late.

Promising to back within a few hours, Matt left for the gym to work on weights and cardio. He was preparing for the football game on Friday night against their arch nemesis. His entire college career was riding on this game with scouts from prominent football colleges coming to look at him. With his sinking GPA, this was Matt's last chance to get into a decent college. After his month off, most people didn't think that he stood a chance any longer but he defied most odds. Matt had to budget his time properly and took an hour on the treadmill before stopping at the water cooler on his way to the weights. Although, there was a girl that he had never seen before. She had strawberry blonde locks that clung to her skin and determined eyes. Emily probably wouldn't have liked the way that he had just checked out the girl, but he couldn't help it. "Hey, are you new to the gym? I come here often, so I know a lot of people, " Matt asked with friendly eyes before chugging down the rest of the water in his bottle.

Jessie hated living with her parents - she felt like every second she breathed under their roof she was being lectured and judged. The girl couldn't go an hour without unintentionally sparking an uproar in her house. Either way, she soon found herself sick of it and took the route to the big city in order to do something with her life. Her father was a lawyer, her mother the mayor of her small town. Both of her parents wanted her to be involved with society and politics in one way or another - but alas Jessie didn't like to follow a specific path. She loved fitness, and wanted to do something athletic with her life. Basketball or netball seemed to be her preferred choices. Choices her parents hated and wished she never had.

Moving to the city was a path she wanted to pursue for a long time now, in order to show independence. Here she was, lifting some weights in one hand - while the other wiped the sweat from her brow. People would often gaze at her, probably because of the size of the weights. People come to an assumption she is weak because of her small height, but big things come in small packages after all.

Hearing a voice, she looked up, and smiled. Finally, a reason to put the weights down. "You've got me - I'm new here. Heck, I'm new to the city." With a polite nod, she went to return to her weights, before looking back at the man. "Sorry, I don't have good manners - I'm Jessie, pleasure to meet you." She said as she stuck her hand out in order for the other to shake. Upon closer inspection, he wasn't bad looking. Handsome, even.
The incident at Blackwood Pines never left his memory. He didn't mean to hurt anyone - he just wanted them to feel scared. Like Hannah did. Being found by the police, they threw all his charges down the drain upon seeing he wasn't physically and mentally able to proceed with courts or charges. He's on more stronger medication now - his mood has been in check for a while now. However, he was still a little bit anxious about everyone. About people.

Of course, when a beautiful lady struggles to make conversation with him, he finds his normal personality wants to shine through.

He greets her with a smile, as he nods his head. "Go ahead, make yourself at home 'till the manager comes." Clicking something on his laptop before closing it, he placed it into his bag before picking up his mocha and taking a few timid sips. The drink was way to hot, maybe a little bit longer and then it will cool down. "So, what brings you here?" He attempts to make conversation - when in all reality he hadn't really talked to anyone since the incident. It was mainly to the people he trusted, the people he knew before the incident happened.

He feels like he should attempt to make some chit chat, in order to seem less like an overly anxious man with a guilty conscience.

Matt chuckled since Jessie was quite straight forward but at least his suspicions were confirmed. She was definitely new to the gym but most of all new to the entire city. They got newcomers all the time but not many people decided to stick around for long. Everyone had built up expectations of what the city was like and sometimes they fell flat. "Hey, don't worry about it. Your manners are just fine and they're pretty much too nice for this city," He waved her off, thinking that she was trying too hard to be polite. "Matt. Nice to meet you, Jessie," He shook her hand with a smile in return. "Sorry, my hand's a little sweaty. Just got doing cardio," He apologized with a small sigh, wiped his palm against the side of his pants.

"If you want, I could spot you," He stated, moving over toward the barbell. "I need to work on weights anyway." Standing behind the weight machine, he held out his hands to catch it. "What brings you to town?" Matt asked out of curiosity to make some small talk. Now, this was definitely something that Emily would have despised. He couldn't help turning down having a conversation with a beautiful woman. Plus, it was harmless and he probably wouldn't see her again, so he saw no problem with it.
With his consent, she slid into the seat and started to look around. She was trying to avoid his gaze as much as possible, not knowing how to react when their eyes met. "Okay, thanks," She replied, taking a small sip of her coffee and wrinkling her nose. It was a bit too strong for her liking. Lacey was surprised when he closed his laptop, as if he were about make some conversation. She figured that he would just ignore her and continue on with his own business. Although, that would have been the easier option for her as well.

Taking another sip of her coffee, she found that it was a way to fill in the small gaps and hide herself but it felt as though he could see right through her. "Oh, I moved into town yesterday. I'm just trying to look for a job. There aren't many jobs that take people without a college degree," She nervously babbled, sharing more with the stranger than what she would've have liked to. Her parents always warned her about being around strangers and what to tell them and what not to. God forbid that this man followed her back to her apartment and robbed her or worse. "Enough about me though. What about you?" She turned the question, wanting the spotlight off of her.

Jessie couldn't help but let a soft laugh fall from her lips. "My manners are too nice? That's a first." She said with amusement, placing the weight down before walking over towards the barbell. "Would you mind? Don't wanna make a fool out of myself on the first week." With a gentle smile, she got into position and grasped her hands around the metal bar - adjusting her position so she could lift it with no tension in her body.

"I heard there were some good basketball teams here - so I wanted to sign up for some. I want to do something athletic with my life - despite my parent's protests about wanting me to become a lawyer." Lifting the barbell up, she lowered it down to just above her chest before continuing. "I mean, come on - a lawyer? I want to do something fun with my life and enjoy myself." Rolling her eyes, she continued lifting - letting out a small breath every time she extended her arms. "So, what about you? Guessing you're into sports or something - or are you just trying to keep in shape?" Jessie didn't know why she asked - because to her, he was in shape. Majorly in shape.
Josh didn't let his smile subside, even though he had to think of a liable answer to her question. No way was he going to speak about the prank, especially not to an outsider. He didn't know who to trust - maybe she was secretly a reporter? Trying to get some gossip on the infamous Washington boy?

Either way, he sipped his mocha before rattling his brain for an answer. "I'm wanting to follow in my father's footsteps - the filming industry has always caught my eye. I hope to produce a film one day - or maybe work on a film set with the lighting or camera angles... I hope you get the job, you seem like a good character to work behind the counter. Most of the people who work here cast you a glance and just serve you your drink - but you seem more sociable."

After a pause, Josh chuckled before placing his mocha down on the table. "I'm Josh, Josh Washington. Nice to meet you, Miss...?" He wanted to know her name - hopefully it was as pretty as she was.

    ((sorry for the delay!))

    [No problem!]

Matt placed his hands a few inches below the barbell and followed closely behind her pace. He was actually quite impressed by how much she could bench press, acknowledging how strong she was. "Nice, I think you could actually add on another five pound weight, if you want," He advised, seeing that she was pushing the metal bar with ease.

"Yeah, the high school is known for its basketball and football teams. I'm actually on the football team and there's a huge game this week on Friday. You should come see it. We could always use another supporter," He encouraged with a small grin. "I know exactly how you feel though. My parents wanted me to become a doctor, but I can't really stand the sight of blood," He trailed off, feeling a small flashback to the mountains. It made him shiver as he gave a small shake of the head, trying to focus on spotting the lovely girl before him. "You should definitely try out for basketball team though. They're always looking for new members, and I think they're going to make it to championships this year."
Lacey gave a slow nod, thinking that it was fascinating. The whole entire movie business was cut throat and difficult, but he wasn't afraid to pursue his dreams. "That's amazing. I kind of actually envy that you already have an idea," She confessed, taking another sip of her coffee. "Thank you, that actually means a lot to me. My parents don't actually think I can make it in the city by myself." Casting her eyes downward, she gave a small sigh of depression. Lacey wanted to prove them wrong, but it was already so difficult finding a job. The other three places she visited required her to have some experience with the profession first.

"Oh, Lacey. Lacey Middleton, but Lacey is fine," She corrected him, thinking that the formality was a little too much. The man seemed to be polite and actually interested in what she had to say. "It's nice to meet you," She offered a small smile before hearing her name from the manager. "Oh, that's for me. Um, hopefully, I see you around," She stated, taking a stand from her seat. Lacey was actually giddy that she had made a new friend. Her first friend in the city.

    ((sorry I thought I replied!!))

Jessie looked at Matt while he was talking, focusing on his words more than anything. His voice was smooth, a voice to die for... But the blonde didn't want to think like that - she just met him, and he probably had a girlfriend. A small smile played on her lips, as she nodded her head along with his words, trying to disregard the fact she found him heavily attractive. "You're on the football team? What's your position?" She questioned, generally intrigued. Pressing a few more times, she let out a breath before raising the bar. "Basketball team sounds cool - I think I'm gonna' try out for it."

Placing the barbell on the stand, she sat up before wiping her forehead with the back of her hand. Standing up, the blonde looked at Matt after stretching her arms. "So, Matt - what places do your recommend here? You know, for food and entertainment. Didn't have much in England, just a few movie theaters and bowling alleys." Letting out a small giggle, she picked up her water bottle she placed beside the barbell. Taking a few long sips, she closed the lid and placed it back on the ground. "I'll defiantly come and support you at the game - could make a few more friends."
Josh couldn't remember when he last smiled. Not since the incident. However, something about this girl... Something about Lacey made his lips curl up at the sides. Before he could say anything back, her name was called and she soon arose from the seat. Josh's heart dropped slightly - and for a reason he couldn't quite establish. Maybe it was because this was the first friend he's made since Blackwood Pines... Since the prank.

He refused to think of it. His medication was upped, and everything was under control. Bad thoughts equaled a bad mood, and good thoughts equaled a good mood... So he thought about Lacey. Her long chocolate brown hair matching her smooth eyes were very pretty - and her personality just seemed to highlight this fact.

For some reason, Josh knew he'd be seeing more of Lacey.

    [It's no problem!]

Matt couldn't help but feel his smile grow since most people were uninterested in the fact that he played football. They always told him that the profession was too volatile and fickle to waste time on. He needed to have a real future beyond football. "Yeah, I've been on it since Freshman year actually. I play quarterback," He proudly informed, unable to tear his eyes away from her. Any person who wasn't blind could easily admit that Jessie a beautiful woman. The curve of her lips paired with friendly eyes. As soon as those thoughts had passed, Matt automatically felt guilty as his mind turned to Emily. She was probably at home waiting for him, curled up in a ball with her blanket. "Awesome, I'm sure you'll make it onto the team."

As she placed the barbell on the stand, he took a step back to let her sit up from the bench. "Hmm, let me think," He trailed off, trying to rack his brain for answers. To be honest, Matt hadn't been out in a while. Between the gym, school, and Emily, he barely had any free time. It made him realize that he had a nonexistent social life. "Um, I know that there's a mall in the middle of town that has everything you could ever need," He dodged, offering a small smile in apology. Quickly wanting to change the subject, he found a loop hole. "England? Wow, that's really far. What brings you to Canada?" He asked, picking up his water bottle to take a sip.
"Okay, Lacey. You can start tomorrow then," The manager stated, delighted to have a new addition to the team. "Oh, wow. I-I, thank you so much," She stammered, unable to contain how excited she was. This was her first job, and Lacey vowed to do it properly. She needed an income. Although this wasn't a six-figure job, it was clearly some money and something that she could add to her resume. "I will see you tomorrow," She concluded while practically skipping out of the room to return back to the main room.

It seemed that the morning rush had calmed down and the baristas were able to take a break. Her eyes scanned the room in search of Josh, wanting to inform him of the good news. However, it seemed that he had already left the cafe. She couldn't quite place why, but she was disappointed. He was an odd character but intriguing all at the same time. Lacey dropped her gaze with a small sigh but picked herself up, introducing herself to her coworkers behind the counter.

((shit this is late again - sorry!!))

"You're Lacey - right?" A blonde woman asked behind the counter, as she passed the next order next to the till. "Guy left this for you." Rummaging into her pockets, she pulled out a small slip of paper. Passing it over to Lacey, the blonde apologized and soon had to return to the tills because of how busy the small coffee shop was. It was a Thursday morning, after all.

Josh had just left the shop, he remembered he had to go to his monthly appointment about his medication. He did linger for a few minutes, desperately wanting to see Lacey, but the time came when he knew he needed to catch the bus otherwise he wouldn't be there in time. Before he left, however, he scribbed his number and his name onto a piece of paper and handed it to the person behind the tills.

Flipping his hoodie up over his head, he shoved his hands into his pocket before boarding the bus. He looked at his phone, waiting to see if he'd get a text. He hoped he would - it had been long since Josh felt like he was accepted by someone. A small smile played at his lips, as he closed his phone before shoving it onto his jean pocket.
Jessie sat up from the barbell, and after a quick sip of her water, she stood up and cracked her knuckles. A habit she picked up since a young age. "Canada seemed intriguing - always wanted to come here since I was a little girl. Of course, parent's wanted me to become a lawyer and blah blah blah." Another sip - more like a gulp - from her water, and she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "I told them I'm coming here to study for law school... But, as you might of guessed, I'm going to be spending my life within the sports industry."

A small chuckle passed her lips, as she tucked some hair behind her ear. "But enough about me - quarterback? Damn, that's cool! You proud of yourself?" The blonde never liked talking much about her past - she liked to focus on the future and the present, hence why she directed the conversation back to him.

She couldn't keep her eyes off him, but managed to avert her eyes as she picked up her phone that she forgot she placed on the floor before she started with the barbell. Shoving it into her pocket, she adjusted her ponytail slightly. She hated long hair - but never had the guts to cut it short.

    [Haha, it's alright!]

Startled by the sudden voice, Lacey blinked over in the direction of the blonde woman. "Oh, yes," She nodded, closing the distance between her and the counter. A guy? She reached out to take the slip of paper and quickly moved out of the way to let customers move by. "Thank you." Although, Lacey wondered what the paper contained. The only other guy she knew from the coffee shop was Josh. But what could he have possibly given her? "Sorry," She mumbled while stepping over to allow a man to order. It slipped her mind that it was the middle of rush hour.

She stepped outside of the store and out onto the streets once more. Unable to wait, she unfolded the small piece of paper to see numbers scrawled. A heat passed over her cheeks in realization that it was his cell phone number. For a moment, Lacey's stomach erupted into butterflies. Now, Josh was one phone call away. She fumbled around in her pocket to produce her cell phone, unable to contain her excitement. Saving the contact into her phone, she sent a quick text to the number.

Hi, it's Lacey from the coffee shop. It was a pleasant surprise to get your number.

After sending the message, she joined the rest of the pedestrian traffic back toward her apartment. The young woman was exhausted from the whole job searching experience since she began at the crack of dawn. Returning back to her home, she automatically flopped down onto her bed and settled beneath the covers with a satisfied yawn.
"Woah, woah, woah," Matt pulled the breaks on her conversation, hearing her mention that her parents wanted her to become a lawyer. "That's exactly what my parents want me to become. I don't understand how I want to be in the NFL it translates to I want to be a lawyer in their heads. Finally, someone who can understand me." He was waiting for the day when his parents finally understood his dream or at least supported it. "Anyway, welcome to Canada. I hope we've been treating you well despite the cold weather," He offered a welcoming smile.

He was humbled by her comment. Only a fellow athlete could understand how much this meant to him. "Thanks, I really love it. It's pretty much the only thing I am good at," He sheepishly admitted. Matt barely squeaked by with his grades, especially after the incident. The only thing he could concentration on was football. It was his rock throughout the whole entire ordeal.

Following shortly behind her, Matt gulped down a quarter of his water and moved over toward the barbell. He picked up a set of weights to warm up, watching her move out of the corner of his eye. "Oh, wait," He paused, putting down his weights to cross over toward her. "Your hair. There's a strand loose," He mumbled, reaching out to tuck it behind her ear. "Sorry, I just hate it when my hair gets in my face. I can only imagine with long hair."

It took a while for Josh to respond as his appointment ran over - but when he looked at his phone he felt a surge of happiness overcome him, something he needed after the shit session. He stood outside the building, leaning up against the brickwork, and unlocked his phone. He's been going here so long he knows the secret spot where the CCTV didn't reach - and this is where he would spend his time relaxing before going home.

A memory of how he'd always talked to Chris and Sam after his appointments flashed into his mind, and when the pang of guilt tugged at his heart, he looked back at his phone for a release from this. Upon seeing Lacey's text, he grinned from ear to ear.

Hey Lacey. What can I say - I'm full of surprises. Did you get the job?? :)

Pressing send, he set off towards his house in a good frame of mind. His parents had a small house on the end of town, and since they wanted him to gain some independence, he agreed to live there temporary. It wasn't much - but it was enough for him. He liked the tranquility of the place, something he needed more of in his life.
Jessie smiled, listening to him in content. "I doubt being quarterback is the only thing you're good at. You're good at socializing, and exercising - so you've got three right there." With a playful smirk, she went to reach her water bottle before she heard Matt speak again. When he reached forward and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, Jessie felt heat rise to her cheeks.

She might be tough on her exterior - but when touched she gets embarrassed and flustered, something she hated about herself. Biting her lip and blinking a few times, she let out a small chuckle.

"Ur, yeah - long hair is a bugger sometimes. Get's in your face all the time, is a disaster to dry once wet and don't even get me started on the tangled bits... I'm blabbing on, aren't I?" A nervous chuckle later, she took another swig of her bottle. She did like this guy, he seemed sweet - and she felt something when his finger brushed against her cheek slightly. A spark.

Jessie wanted to ask for his number, but she feared he would reject and he didn't feel anything. She always got shy around guys when she liked them - so hopefully she could spark up the confidence to ask for his number.

Hearing her phone chime, Lacey awoke to see that it was half past noon. She barely noticed that she had dozen off. Slowly, she sat up from her bed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Lacey reached out to grab her phone from her beside table to see a message from Josh. It brought a gentle smile to her face to see that she at least made one friend.

Yep! I start tomorrow. You should definitely stop by. I'll buy you a coffee! :)

After sending the message, she patiently waited until a grumbling sensation erupted from her stomach. That's right. She hadn't eaten all day. "Man," She mumbled under her breath, dragging herself from bed. The last time Lacey attempted to cook anything her kitchen almost burned down. Plus, there were no groceries inside of the refrigerator. Maybe she could order delivery? Her money resources were scarce though. Why was living on her own proving to be so difficult?
"Ah, you're being too kind," He waved off the compliment. If anything, Matt did the complete opposite of socializing. This was the first time in months that he had approached another person other than the usual gang. He wasn't exactly sure why, but he felt the sudden urge to break out of his shell and talk to her. "I, uh, just came off of an injury, actually. I was benched for a couple months and started getting back to the gym last month," He finally admitted, averting his gaze for a moment.

Matt chuckled back in response, noticing the heat passed her cheeks. "Don't worry about it. I suppose if I had long hair too I would understand what you mean," He played along with a gentle smile adorning his expression. Speaking to Jessie was like coming up for a fresh breath of air. She knew nothing of his circumstances and treated him like a regular person. After the incident, every person stared at and treated him as damaged goods. Matt was sick and tired of it, wanting to move on.

For the remainder of their workout session, Matt continued the friendly conversation. He couldn't shake the feeling of guilt in the back of his mind though. It was if he were cheating on Emily, knowing that she would dislike this friendship. Matt, what are you doing? I'm home alone, and I'm scared. He could picture her saying to him. "Maybe I'll see you around school then," He stated with a small smile, toweling himself off.

Josh had made himself nice and cozy at his place, covering himself in multiple different blankets in front of the fire. Sometimes his mind would be captivated by the flames - how they danced around without a care. How they looked pretty but were dangerous. He let out a soft chuckle, thinking that he was much like the fire. Smoking hot, but dangerous.

He's dangerous. Josh stopped, before blinking a few times. That's right - he's dangerous. He caused all his friends to go through unspeakable pain and harm... It broke his heart how they all called him a monster - he was just trying to get some payback for Hannah and Beth.. They all complained about their time on the mountain, but what about his time? The pain he felt, knowing he'd never see his sisters and never be able to have a conversation with the only two people in the world who kept him sane?

His phone buzzed, making him snap out of these thoughts. Casting his gaze over to his phone, he thought about who it could be. Of course, realizing it was Lacey, he practically lunged off the seat and grabbed the phone. He texted her back rather fast - he needed to occupy his mind.

Well done you! That sounds like a plan - what time do you start?
Jessie looked up when he hinted on leaving, as she let a smile pass her lips. "Of course - it was great talking to you Matt. See you soon." Stepping off the treadmill, Jessie stretched her arms before picking up her water bottle. "I think I'm gonna get going too - I've got computer games calling my name."

A giggle came from her lips. Video games and PC gaming was her second passion aside from fitness, she loved the atmosphere and you could basically make up a whole new personality compared to your real life self.

Saying goodbye to Matt, she pulled on her hoodie before walking outside and walking towards the bus-stop. Sure, she could jog home - but if she was honest her calves were killing and there was no way she'd walk with that much pain. Soon enough her bus came, and she found herself back at her small flat in little to no time, surrounded by an interior of boxes and scraps of newspaper. Ah, the joys of a new house.

Hearing her stomach groan once more, Lacey dug into her pockets and produced a ten dollar bill. Pizza would suffice. She called in her order before beginning to unpack all of her boxes. There was only so much that she could haul from her home. Clothes, some photos, and more shoes than she should have brought. She only made it through about half of the boxes before a light buzz went off.

Tomorrow morning from opening. I think my shift ends around noon. Look forward to seeing you then!

For the remainder of the day, she spent her time finally settling into her apartment. The sun quickly fell, leaving the moon in its wake. Lacey sighed as she placed the last pair of shoes on the rack in the front doorway. "God, too many shoes," She sighed, swiping the beads of sweat that accumulated on her brow. The young woman spent decided to take a shower then rest early that night in anticipation of her first job tomorrow. Something told Lacey that her new life here would be an unforgettable one.

Her alarm clock woke her the next day, making her jolt up from her sleep. Lacey jumped out of the bed and raced to find some appropriate clothing. She figured that a pair of jeans and a t-shirt would be fine. Simple. Since she still lacked food in her kitchen, she left on an empty stomach and moved down to the cafe.
Before he could say anything else, Jessie was gone in a whirlwind. Matt really hoped that he could see more of this girl around school or the gym. He truly missed meeting new people and being able to act like certain events never happening. As soon as she learned of his past, she would soon begin to look at him like damaged goods. Talk to him as if he would break at any moment. But before that he wanted to enjoy it.

Matt toweled up and grabbed his gym bag from the locker room before leaving. Taking the train back, he opened the door to his apartment with Emily waiting on the couch. "Matt, what took you so long? I was waiting for you. We have to go grocery shopping," She complained with her arms crossed over her chest. He heaved a sigh while dropping his bag onto the floor. "Sorry, I lost track of time at the gym. Let me take a shower and then we can go." Emily narrowed her eyes at him before sighing and returning her gaze back to the television.

After finishing with his shower, they went to the local grocery store a couple blocks from the house. Emily's grip on his arm was tight, blocking some of the circulation. Every time a person approached them her hands tightened even further as her eyes darted around in anticipation. "We're fine. Just take a deep breath," Matt soothed.
