Once Derek was finished giving Erica the bite and reassuring her that everything would work out he wrote down where he wanted her to meet him later and then left the room. After all, he couldn't just take her from the hospital right now because it might draw unwanted attention to things. He also figured he should leave her at the hospital until the bite took and they both knew everything really was going to work. There was also the fact that he had another beta running around he needed to check on that was reason enough for him to leave Erica until the bite had taken and she could leave the hospital on her own free will because the doctors gave her the all-clear. As he left her room he couldn't help but notice a girl standing in the hall with a look of fear in her eyes, he could hear her heart beating faster than normal, and he could smell the fear she had. Probably because she'd just witnessed him biting into Erica's flesh like nothing. Though he wasn't worried about what she'd seen because it wasn't like anyone would believe her. He was, however, curious as to why she was here because maybe she'd make a good third beta, and given that she was in the hospital something must've been wrong with her which meant that he might be able to appeal to her like he had with Erica.
Lydia looked over at the boy and smiled kind of glad to no longer be alone. Then he asked her about school and she was nothing more than confused. "Maybe," she said biting her lip. "I don't know really," she added trying to think really hard about how she ended up on the beach, and about everything before the beach but she was coming up blank. "I can't really remember anything from before I woke up on the beach," she told him knowing that wasn't a good sign but she didn't know how to fix it. "I do remember who I am and things about myself, but I can't remember anything else," she told him not really sure what would happen next, or if she'd ever remember anything else. Was it even possible for her to remember? Who would she even ask for help? And how would they even help her? All of a sudden everything was just a mystery to her.
Sydney shook her head, "no, I'm fine," she told him as she turned to look at him trying her best not to look over at the people still talking about her. She even smiled at him trying to find a way to keep herself from breaking down because as much as she wanted to she couldn't. They all already had enough to talk about when it came to her, she didn't want to give them anything else to talk about. "Thank you for checking on me, though," she finally added after a few seconds. Honestly, most people wouldn't have checked on her, hell they wouldn't have even apologized. And even though she wasn't looking for a friend, or for people to be nice to her, or anything really it was nice to know there was, at least, one person at school who was a decent human being. That, of course, didn't mean that Sydney was going to allow herself to think of him as a friend or anything else. He may have been nice, but she really didn't want to get close only for him to decide she was too messed up to be friends and then leave her alone. Again.
