Kae walked into the classroom, a rectangle shaped room with about four or five tables in it, sitting down in one of the closest seats. This was her English Lit class, a course she was taking to get her writing intensive requirement out of the way for her major, which was actually sociology. She grabbed out her notebook, pencil, and water bottle as she leaned back in the chair. Others began to filter into the room, but she wasn't paying much attention as she scrolled through her phone.

Valerie had been late to class, of course, after her alarm clock hadn't gone off. But one of her sisters from the sorority, her closest friend, had woken her up and told her the time. She'd hurried to get dressed, knowing she didn't have time to shower, put her hair up into a bun, and headed to class. Now that she was here, all the seats were filled and there was only one left, up front. She pouted slightly, but walked up anyways, sitting down next to a girl who was completely invested in her phone. She looked like the complete opposite of Valerie, and she kind of hoped that the two of them wouldn't end up partners. She tended not to work well with people who weren't really like her because they just didn't understand her at all.

There was an irritating screech over the speakers in the room- the professor had decided to use the microphone, despite the room being small enough that it wasn't necessary. Kae cringed, turning the screen of her phone off and dropping it into her pocket. A pretty girl sat in the seat beside her, and glanced her up and down. Kae could practically feel the girl judging her, and she crossed her arms, feeling uncomfortable, and turning her attention towards the professor.

"Alright, we're going to do a quick ice-breaking exercise to start off our first class. Pair up with the person next to you, and discuss the book you're most looking forward to reading." As the buzz in the room started to grow as people paired up, the professor got a little closer to his mic. "Also, be aware that this person you pair up with will be your project partner later in the semester! I'll be coming around and marking this down."

Valerie glanced over at the girl, clearing her throat. "Uh, I'm Valerie," she said. "I'm in Kappa Phi Nu." She forced a small smile, holding her hand out to the other girl. She had to admit, the girl was extremely pretty. She had the most gorgeous green eyes that she'd ever seen and she was kind of jealous. Everyone had brown or blue eyes, but she hadn't met a lot of people with green eyes, and she'd always wanted to have green eyes.

As the other people at the table paired up quickly, she realized that the girl next to her was her partner. She gave a mirror half-hearted smile to the girl, shaking her hand. She raised an eyebrow as the girl immediately mentioned she was in a sorority- frankly, people in Greek life weren't viewed very positively outside of Greek life itself. "Um, I'm Kae..." She responded as she shook Valerie's hand, "And I'm not in a sorority, actually." She chuckled slightly condescendingly. She was a little bit jealous of the closeness sorority sisters seemed to have, and they also always seemed to look perfect too. She realized she was holding her hand a bit too long and admiring her face a bit too much and immediately took her hand away, chuckling a little. "So, um, what book are you looking forward to?"

Valerie could tell this girl was cynical right off the bat. She clearly looked down on everything in life, which was the complete opposite of what sororities did. They made the best of every situation, had a strong sisterhood and a strong view on life. She sighed softly, turning away from her. "I'm not sure, actually," she admitted. "I haven't had time to read the syllabus yet." She'd been mostly spending time working on getting things at the house straight for when rush season came, which was soon, and also there had been some parties over the weekend she'd been to.

Swiftly, Kae pulled a folder out of her backpack and set it on the table, pulling out the syllabus. She was frankly, a nerd, and was overly prepared for her classes. She'd already read all of the books over the summer break, but she wasn't going to say that. "Here, they're fairly well known books..." She said, sliding the stapled paper towards her partner. Kae gazed at her messy bun, something she'd cleearly thrown together quickly, but she still managed to look beautiful and chic. She wondered how she did it. Her short hair was too short to put in a bun, but it was rarely that cute anyhow.

Valerie picked up the syllabus, reading over it. "I think I'm most excited for Age of Innocence," she said, looking up at Kae. "I've heard of it but have never had the chance to read it before." She slid the syllabus back towards the other girl, mumbling a small "thanks" as she did so. She looked up when the professor walked by to write them down as partners. She sat back in her seat, resting her hands in her lap and yawning softly. She was still really tired since she hadn't gone to bed until at least 1:30 in the morning. She'd been so mad when she found out she had a class this early, but there wasn't another opening, so she'd had to either take it or leave it.

"I've heard it's really good, I think we'll enjoy it..." Kae said, leaning back in her own chair as she left the syllabus out, relaxing. She had nothing really to talk about at this point- it was an early class, everyone was tired and not very talkative. She glanced over at Valerie again, admiring her. Kae had been starting to realize lately that she wasn't totally straight- that girls were quite beautiful too, but she felt awkward about it, and didn't want to tell anyone. It seemed wrong.

Valerie looked back at Kae, noticing the other girl was staring at her. "Oh, god," she mumbled. "Do I have something in my teeth?" She quickly covered her mouth, using her mid-length nails to pick in between her teeth. She'd fixed a quick smoothie with kale in it before she left, but she hadn't had enough time to get it completely blended, so she'd taken what it had fixed and it had been pretty chunky. She'd forced it down, but she didn't really care because it was still good for her.

"No, no," Kae said, blushing a little and looking down at her notebook, then glancing back at Valerie. "You look great." She gave a little half smile. It felt awkward to just sit there, and she glanced at Valerie again. "So, what major are you?" She asked, putting her elbow on the desk and leaning against her hand as she gazed at Valerie.

Valerie smiled at her. "I'm majoring in English Lit," she said. "It was a tough decision to make and my sisters tease me for it a lot, but I'm a total bookworm." It was something she didn't like to talk about often because people always thought she was lying or joking when she brought it up. That was because she was always under this constant stereotype of being a stupid sorority girl. "I also love to write, mostly poetry and song lyrics. I thought about majoring in music, but I'd rather be a writer more than a performer."

Kae smiled softly as she listened to her, finding that she was really enjoying listening to her talk about her interests. She could sense the bits of insecurity around what she enjoyed as Valerie talked about it, and she suddenly heard herself saying, "I'd love to look at some of your writing some time..." And she genuinely did. With a sudden realization, she realized she was attracted to Valerie, and she blushed a little. "I wish I were better at literature, it's one of the few things I have to work at."

Valerie smiled slightly at her. She thought for a moment, looking the other girl over. "You should rush Kappa this year," she said. "I could help you get in. It would be a lot of fun. Once you were in, I could totally help you with whatever you need." She smiled at her. It wasn't often she invited girls to join her sorority like this, but she thought with a little work, she could easily have Kae in there. She was a gorgeous girl, she just needed to learn how to flaunt it, because that oversized flannel button-up was not working in her favor. "Come on, it'll be fun."

Kae blushed a little, grinning. "I'm not the type of girl to be in a sorority..." She chuckled, running a hand through her hair. "I'm nerdy, and I don't like parties or decorating things...I'm flattered though!" She felt torn- she really wasn't a sorority girl, or the type of girl to be in a sorority, but she felt very drawn towards Valerie- she wanted to spend more time with her. "What the hell....I'll rush. I doubt I'll get in but...yeah..."

"Oh, this is going to be so exciting!" Valerie squealed, blushing slightly when she caught looks from some people. She cleared her throat. "Are you free after this period?" she asked. "I can take you to the mall off campus and we can get you a new outfit." She was a little afraid of what the other girl's wardrobe would consist of.

Kae laughed a little awkwardly, covering her mouth. Valerie's enthusiasm was infectious, and it made her smile. "Yeah, yeah I am, this is my only class today, actually," Kae said. Her wardrobe was full of things she liked, though she wasn't particularly known for her fashion sense. Had Valerie seen it, she certainly wouldn't have approved.

Valerie nodded her head. "Awesome," she said. She opened her notebook, tearing out a small piece of paper and writing down her number on it. She slid it across the table to Kae, smiling at her. "This is my number. You should put it in your phone." This was the first time since freshman year that she'd made any friends outside of her sorority, and it was really exciting. Kae wasn't pretentious or anything. It would be nice to have a fresh start with a new friend this year. After class was over, she stood up. "Come on, I'll take you to my car."

Under the table, Kae entered the number into her phone, feeling excited about this. She hadn't made any friends through class before, and she liked Valerie already. After class, she followed Valerie out towards her car, her backpack slung on her back. Valerie seemed kind, and way more open to having friends outside of her sorority that many other girls that Kae had met before. She broke a stereotype, and it was nice.
