Charlie's shoulders sagged as she looked up, watching as Matt retreated up the stairs. Her bottom lip started to wobble and before she even knew what was happening, she was crying. She pulled her knees to her chest, covering her face with her hands as she squeezed her eyes shut. Matt hadn't exactly told her that he wasn't done with his work the way she had hoped but there was a sneaking suspicion that she couldn't shake. If Matt had truly been done, she felt like he would have been more open to the idea of moving. She rolled over onto her side, settling down on the couch with her hand resting on her stomach.

She wanted to go upstairs and reason with Matt but all she could picture was just how angry he was. She swallowed the lump that formed in her throat, trying to quiet herself down. Charlie found that she was exhausted once she had calmed down completely. Sighing, Charlie reached out and turned the television off before she pulled the blanket off of the back of the couch. She wasn't going to join Matt so she decided it was just best if she took a nap downstairs.

Matt huffed as he turned on the television, trying his hardest to get comfortable. But the pain medication was starting to wear off and he was in pain again. Which was probably a large part of the reason he'd lost his temper with Charlie so quickly. If he'd really tried, he could've kept himself calm, manipulated Charlie and the conversation like he always had in the past. But then he'd felt that pain winding around his spine like a vice and Charlie had started trying to tell him what to do and he hadn't been able to help himself.

Matt had hoped that he might be able to relax enough to at least take a short nap but the pain from his wound only started for grow and soon enough, he was forcing himself out of bed and stumbling into his master bathroom. He gritted his teeth together as he slammed open the medicine cabinet, knocking out several bottles as he reached for his own prescription. He practically ripped off the cap, dumping two pills into his palm and shoving them into his mouth. He swallowed them dry, dragging himself back to the bed and dropping onto the mattress.

Charlie wanted to take a nap, she felt completely exhausted but she couldn't bring herself to fall asleep. She tossed and turned, eventually settling on staring up at the ceiling. Tears welled in her eyes but she forced them back, realizing that she was tired of crying. And also that she didn't want Matt to hear her crying. She was sure that Matt would be upset with her; Charlie wanted to convince herself that Matt would be upset because she was upset but she couldn't shake the feeling that it would only aggravate his temper because of her suggestion to move.

Dragging herself up, Charlie decided to start making dinner to help occupy her mind. She wasn't really hungry but she was sure that by the time that Matt ventured downstairs, he would want something to eat. She hoped that it would be some sort of peace offering because all she really wanted was for them to both be happy with each other. Charlie was just afraid of what the future held because she didn't know what was going to happen. The next few months were going to have a lot of change in them.

Charlie let out a sigh as she finished supper, pulling out the baked pot pie from the oven. She chewed on her bottom lip, wondering if she should go let Matt know that dinner was ready or not. Deciding that it was probably best to let him continue to rest until Matt decided to come down on his own.

Matt laid awake for about fifteen minutes or so, staring up at the ceiling. His mind was racing, his anger level still so high that he could hear his pulse in his ear, and he found a little difficult to rest like he wanted. But soon enough, his pain medication started to take effect and eventually, he was able to drift off to sleep. When he woke up, he could tell by the angle of the light peaking in through the blinds that it was early evening, likely around six o'clock. He contemplated rolling over and going back to sleep but then the smell of what he assumed was dinner hit him and his stomach grumbled, making him realize how hungry he was.

Groaning, Matt pushed himself out of bed, taking a second to stretch as he got to his feet. He was a bit slow as he made his way downstairs, still a little stiff from his impromptu nap. Spotting Charlie on the couch, Matt gave a sort of nod as a form of greeting. He wasn't as angry with her as he had been before, but the tension was certainly still there. "What did you make?" he asked her, almost grunting the words. "Smells good." Trudging past her into the kitchen, quickly spotting the pot pie on the counter. He grabbed a plate and plopped a good bit onto it before dropping into a seat at the table.

"You gonna join me or just sit in there by yourself?" Matt asked Charlie. His tone of voice made it very clear that he wasn't really asking her so much as telling her that she needed to come and eat with him. Hopefully, she would be smart enough to see that because at the current moment, it wouldn't take much to turn his mood sour all over again.

Charlie felt her body tense when she heard the sounds of Matt moving around upstairs. She knew that he was going to make his way downstairs and she didn't know why but it scared her for some reason. Her stomach twisted into an uncomfortable knot as she hung her head, gently massaging her stomach as her heart raced. The fear she felt was enough to make her want nothing more than to cry. She wasn't supposed to be afraid of her fiance. She wasn't supposed to be anything but excited and happy to be around him. And yet, here she was.

She let out a shaky breathe, reminding herself that she needed to stay calm. For herself. For her baby. She didn't think Matt would try to hurt her especially knowing that she was pregnant, but she still didn't know everything about Matt. She didn't like that thought at all but even as Matt started down the stairs, Charlie knew it was the truth. Swallowing, Charlie didn't bother to even look up when Matt started into the kitchen. She didn't answer his question either, knowing he'd figure it out shortly on his own.

Charlie only lifted her head when she heard Matt call out to her. She had no appetite at all but she realized all too quickly that she had to get up and join Matt. She knew Matt's moods like the back of her hand; his tone gave away how annoyed he still was. "Yeah. Sorry," Charlie called out, quick to make her way into the kitchen. She scooped a tiny bit into her bowl, deciding it was all she could bring herself to eat as she moved to join him in the dining room.

Charlie forced a smile to her face as she looked up toward Matt. "How'd you.. uh, sleep?" Charlie asked, pausing long enough to clear her throat. She pushed the food around in her bowl before taking a small bite, continuing on like that.

Matt remained silent as Charlie finally got up from her spot on the couch, coming to join him in the kitchen. His eyes followed her as she fixed herself a bowl, noting the meager portion she served herself. It was obvious that she wasn't hungry, just as obvious that she was only coming to eat because he was essentially forcing her to. It showed just how much Matt had manipulated Charlie over the years, how he almost had her trained to read his moods and act accordingly. A small part of him knew he should feel bad that he had such control over Charlie but that part was vastly outweighed by the part of him that was deviously happy that she bent to his will so easily.

Looking up when Charlie finally spoke, he let out a dry sort of laugh. "Like shit," he answered. "My fucking side hurts. You know, because I got shot chasing after you when you ran away because you were too fucking scared to tell me you were pregnant with my baby." Obviously there wasn't really any reason to say all of that but Matt was still in an incredibly sour mood and he wanted to make Charlie feel bad. He wanted her to feel bad that he'd been shot and he wanted to make her feel bad for ever even suggesting they move away from Huntington Beach and everything they'd ever known. Finishing off his food, Matt pushed away from the table, going over to toss the empty dish in the sink. Going to the fridge, he grabbed a beer from inside.

"When you're done, make sure you clean up this fucking mess," he said to Charlie. "And save the leftovers, I'll eat them later."

Charlie had been itching to break the tense silence between them, she wanted to start bridging the gaps that had been growing between them. Charlie paused with her fork in the food in front of her, her shoulders tensing as Matt let out a dry laugh. She knew that sort of laugh. It meant Matt was about to say something that would hurt, that would make her feel awful and she tensed as if bracing herself for what she could already feel was coming. Her lips parted and an apology slid to the tip of her tongue but her words fell silent as he continued on. She let out an indignant noise, hanging her head.

Tears welled in her eyes but she forced herself not to cry - she knew it would only make things worse. Matt had always had a sort of volatile temper and given how much pain he was in at the moment, Charlie knew it would only get worse. Her hand shook slightly before her hand dropped to her lap where she clasped them together, realizing that she had no appetite at all. NOt even a will to eat to please Matt but her stomach had settled into a ball of nervous knots.

Charlie only was brave enough to look up when Matt moved away from the table. She could only bring herself to nod, nearly bringing herself to challenge Matt when he reached for a beer. No. Charlie forced a weak smile to her face as she nodded. "Of course," she agreed in quiet voice. Charlie didn't stand until Matt left the room entirely and she was quick to pack away the food, after shoving her piece back into it.

Smoothing down the material of her shirt, Charlie decided to head upstairs and grab a load of laundry to start it. She was tired and doing chores was just about the last thing she wanted to do but she hoped that if she continued to take care of the home, it might help ease Matt's mood. When she returned upstairs from the basement, Charlie paused in the doorway to the living room, shifting a bit nervously. "Did you.. want anything first? I'm going to go clean the ensuite."

Beer in hand, Matt headed into the living room. He was irritated and in pain and he thought the best bet to keep his mood from souring any further would be to relax on the couch and have a few beers. Reaching for the remote, he turned on the TV and flipped through the channels until he found something he felt was worthy enough to watch. He popped the top from his beer, taking a decent-sized swig. He'd pretty much settled into his place for foreseeable future when he heard movement behind him.

Groaning as he twisted to see what it was, his face settled into a grimace when he noticed Charlie standing there. "Yeah, you can bring me another beer," he told her. "And take this empty one into the kitchen. And if you're cleaning, make sure you do the laundry I left in the bathroom." Handing off the empty beer bottle to Charlie, Matt kept his hand outstretched, ready to accept the next. Thankfully it was only a minute or so before he felt the coldness of a fresh bottle against his skin. "Thanks," he told Charlie. "I'll let you know if I need anything else. You can go now."

Charlie couldn't even bring herself to vocalize an answer when Matt told her to grab him another beer. She nodded her head, reaching out to take the empty bottle from him. She retreated into the kitchen and was quick to grab him a new beer, popping off the lid before she headed back into the living room. Charlie pressed the chilled bottle into his hand, swallowing thickly at his words. She gave another nod before she headed for the stairs. She grabbed Matt's clothes from the bathroom and tossed them into the laundry basket in the corner of their bedroom.

Heading downstairs, Charlie made her way into the basement. Her stomach twisted with each step that she took down the stairs - she hated them more than she cared to admit. She certainly wouldn't raise the fear with Matt because a part of her thought Matt would just tell her that she was being ridiculous. Another part, one that she tried her best to ignore, thought it wasn't a good idea to tell Matt just how afraid of these stairs she had grown since the day Johnny had been shot.

Cleaning up the kitchen next, Charlie was as quiet as she could be for she didn't want to disturb Matt in the living room. He was already in a sour mood, she didn't want it to be any worse. Deciding to leave the living room alone, Charlie worked her way upstairs to clena their bedroom and the bathroom.

Not hearing an actual response from Charlie before she left again, Matt couldn't help but roll his eyes at her. Her didn't know what her fucking problem was tonight, but she needed to get over it, and fast. Twisting the top off of his second beer, Matt took a hearty sip, groaning as he settled the bottle between his legs. His side was starting to ache again and he knew that before long, it would balloon into a full blown pain. "Charlie!" Matt shouted over his shoulder. "Bring me a pain pill, would you? And hurry up, my fucking side hurts." He knew he wasn't supposed to be drinking with his pain medication, but right now he didn't exactly care. And he'd only have had two beers.

"Thanks," Matt said, flashing Charlie a halfway sincere smile before popping it into his mouth and washing it down with a swig of beer. Luckily, it didn't take long at all for the pain medication to start working but at the same time, as it usually did, it made Matt incredibly drowsy. Deciding that now wasn't exactly a bad time for another nap, Matt shifted to lay down on the couch, reaching up to pull the blanket over his legs. He finished off his beer, setting the empty bottle on the floor beside the couch, and let his eyes slip closed.

Charlie perked up when she heard her name, looking up with a slight frown from her spot in their bathroom upstairs. She was quick to stand, rinsing off her hand before she headed down the stairs with one of Matt's pills in her hands. She wasn't too keen on the idea of him taking them when she had been drinking but Charlie was quickly figuring out that there was no argument that she could start, that she would win. Matt would only get annoyed with her and she knew that would risk an argument or worse. Shuddering at the thought, Charlie forced a light smile to her face as she stepped into the living room.

"Welcome," Charlie murmured. She hesitated for a moment before leaning down, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. "I love you. Let me know if you need anything else," she murmured softly. Charlie loved Matt, there was no denying that fact but a piece of her would always be afraid of him, she thought. No matter what because she knew what Matt did with his own hands. Charlie paused long enough, watching Matt for a moment before she returned to cleaning upstairs.

It didn't take long for the combination of the beer and the pain medication to knock Matt into a deep sleep. Deep enough that he didn't really dream and what little filter through was hardly discernable. When he woke up hours later, the entire house was dark and it took him several seconds to realize he was downstairs on the couch. In his sleepy, drunken, medicated haze, he barely remembered why he was even on the couch in the first place and after a few seconds, he decided he would likely be much more comfortable upstairs. Pushing to a sitting position, he felt a dull ache radiate up from his spine. But he wasn't sure what time it was, which meant he wasn't sure if he could even have another pain pill.

Cursing to himself, Matt got to his feet and made his way upstairs, not exactly being as quiet as he needed to be but not entirely too loud, either. He pushed open the bedroom door, shuffling over to his side of the bed and dropping onto the mattress. He groaned as he shifted around to try and get comfortable, his arms reaching out to pull the nearest object close to him. Whether that was Charlie or a pillow, he wasn't quite sure. It was dark and he was still a bit out of it. Either way, it didn't take long before he was out again, the alcohol and pain medication carrying him away to another dreamless sleep.

[sorry if this is awful, I didn't know what to do with Matt since he fell asleep XD]
