Corrie new she looked like a mess when she walked into school. Her parents had been fighting all night and she had only gotten an hours sleep before her alarm had gone off. She considered herself lucky though, at least it was her mom he was fighting. He never hit her mom, most likely because he knew she could take him. Her curly blonde hair was tied up into a tight ponytail on her head, her dark roots coming in and making it known that she would have to re-dye her hair soon. Her sweatpants and baggy sweater didn't help her look either. It didn't matter of course, she had two best friends at this school, and everybody else she wasn't trying to impress. 'Well, that's not entirely true,' she thought as she walked into her first period English class and took a seat in the front row after saying hello to her teacher, Mr. Mitchell. She tried not to stare at him, he was so handsome it was hard not to stare. She reached into her bag and pulled out her copy of Animal Farm, which she had already read twice. Mr. Mitchell got up and began class, and she blushed furiously as his eyes fell on her after asking who did the reading. She was one of the few people who raised their hand. She heard some laughing in the back of the room. "Of course Corrie did, it's not like she has anything better to do," she heard Jessica Montgomery say, not too subtly, to her friend Kaite. She ignored them, she was used to jokes about her social standing.

Kenzie was at work early, correcting the latest math test she gave to her students. She understood that math was a hard subject for people, but this last one should have been relatively easy and yet quite a few kids had failed it. For most of them she assumed it was a fluke, they generally got at least C's, which in her book never concerned her. But there was one student she was beginning to worry about. Roy Mackerso had been struggling since the beginning of the year. He did well on the first review test, but after that his grades had been steadily declining. She may have just ignored it, but he always looked so sad in class. She smiled to him as he walked into class and took his usual seat in the back row. She decided that that was going to be the day that she talked to him. She was slightly distracted as she taught the class, noticing Roy drawing as usual in the back. When the final bell rang she waited for Roy to walk by her desk, and then gently tapped him on the arm. "Excuse me Roy, do you think you could stop by after school to talk with me for a couple minutes." She tried to look as non-threatening as possible as she waited for his response.
