Staring at the ceiling had become somewhat of a pastime for Bucky - not by choice, necessarily, but there wasn't much else to do to pass the hours. He spent most of his time lying on his back strapped to a chair, and the ceiling always ended up in his line of vision. The longer he spent in the chair, the closer the ceiling seemed to get. Maybe being chained up for so long was slowly driving him crazy.
He wasn't even sure what the Hydra agents were doing most of the time. Occasionally they would torture him, mostly when he wouldn't answer their questions, but a lot of times it looked like they were doing some kind of experiment. Most of the time they gave Bucky some kind of shot that put him in a dazed state, so it was difficult for him to focus.
Bucky was just starting to come back to himself when he heard frantic movements off to the side. He struggled to focus his eyes, seeing one of the lead scientists moving about the room and grabbing things hurriedly. He watched as the man barely glanced over his shoulder at Bucky, before quickly leaving the room. It was eerily quiet for a second; Bucky was just beginning to become more aware of his surroundings and realized that he needed to free himself as soon as possible.
Suddenly, someone was at the side of the chair that Bucky was strapped to. Whoever it was was saying his name, so Bucky looked up at the figure with a confused expression.
Steve? But it couldn't be. The face looked like Steve but...had he always been so tall?
Once Bucky was freed from the restraints, he let Steve lead the way, though he was still unsure if this truly was the Steve that he knew. Then again, he'd seen a lot of things in the past few years - few things really surprised him anymore. Now that he was free, all of his senses came back to him and he almost went on auto-pilot, running behind Steve as they barreled down the hall in the hopes of finding an exit. Suddenly, Bucky remembered the other soldiers from his unit and he froze mid-step; Steve followed suit and looked back at Bucky with a questioning stare.
"What about the others? Did you find any of the other soldiers?" Bucky wanted to know. Steve assured Bucky that they had already been freed, but Bucky was hardly at ease. He blamed himself for the capture and if they all didn't get out safely...well, that would be on him, too.
