Ryan sighed as he finished unpacking his last box. His girlfriend and him had broken up and he had to find a place to go. Lucky for him his friend Matt was willing to let him move in with him. It wasn't easy to find a great place in New York City. Ryan sighed as he sat on his bed and looked around the room. He caught his girlfriend in the shower with another guy. He still couldn't wrap his head around it. Ryan looked up as Matt knocked on the door and walked in.

Matt smiled, "Hey man i'm meeting some friends down the street to have a few beer and food. Wanna come along?" He asked.

Ryan hadn't really spent a lot of time with Matt lately. They spoke over the phone, but they both had gotten busy with their own lives. Ryan nodded, "Yea sure, sounds like fun." He said with smile. He pulled on his leather jacket and walked out of the apartment with Matt. He sighed as he walked down he busy side walk and into the restaurant with Matt. Ryan sat there with him while they waited for his friend. He ordered a beer, taking a swig of it. Ryan looked over as Matt's friends walked over to them. He let his eyes move to the cute red head that was with them.

Lexi smiled as she unlocked Oliver's door, carrying a few groceries he had asked her to pick up. "Oliver!" She called as she set the stuff on the counter. He had been her best friend forever and she liked to spend time with him as much as possible. Lexi smiled when he walked into the kitchen, "Morning sunshine. Sleep well?" She asked as she scooted the groceries to him. "You know eventually you will have to go to the grocery store alone." She teased him. Lexi sat in the bar stool that was in front of his kitchen island. "What are you plans for the day?" She asked, watching him.

Evie walked into the bar looking around for Matt. He had been a good friend to her since she moved to New York a few years ago. He had helped her get set up in her new place once she found one. Evie smiled seeing him and she walked over to him. "Matt!" she greeted him a kiss on the cheek and a hug. He squeezed her making her blush and nearly loose her balance as he let her go. Evie chuckled shaking her head and ran a hand through her hair. Chloe and her boyfriend James greeted Matt next while Evie ordered an apple martini. Evie turned back to her friends her eyes meeting the eyes of the man who was sitting beside Matt as his eyes came up from her body. "Who's you're friend handsome?" she asked smiling back at Matt. Evie took a seat on the stool crossing her legs making her tight blue dress move up her thighs. Evie smiled at the bar tender as he set the drink in front of her. "Keep the change." she said handing him the money. He lingered a moment looking her over but she had already turned her attention back to Ryan and Matt.
Chloe smiled shaking Ryan's hand. "Nice to meet ya." she said with a southern draw. "Shall we all move to a table?" she asked and then lead the way through the crowd to a high table that she had to nearly jump up into the chair to sit down. James chuckled and put a hand on the small of her back to help her. Evie followed walking with Ryan.

Oliver came out of his bedroom having just finished getting dressed. He smiled seeing Lexi. He walked over to her and messed up her hair then kissed her cheek as he plucked up the bag of groceries and started putting them away. "Of course." he winked at her as he moved around the kitchen. "Yeah yeah I know but it's just so much easier when you do it." he said and put the empty bag away. Oliver smiled at Lexi as he leaned over the counter. "Oh I'm just meeting with my parents again." he said and shrugged. He hadn't yet told Lexi about the crap his parents had pulled. He wasn't sure how to really. In this day and age no one had arranged marriages and yet here he was in this situation where he was suppose to be meeting his fiancee tonight. It was expected that he would present the ring tonight. Oliver looked at Lexi and thought how he rather marry his best friend than some stranger. He didn't realize his ears were turning red with his thoughts.

Matthew smiled, "This is Ryan. He...is living with me for awhile." He said, not wanting to get into personal issues that weren't his. Ryan looked at Evie when she said her name, "Nice to meet you." He said as he shook her hand. He watched as she got up, grabbing his beer before he walked to the table with her. Once they were seated he pulled his jacket off and ordered another beer. He looked at Matt as he talked to him about the fight that was on tv. Ryan nodded as he took a swig of his beer. As fun as Evie was to look at he was kind of scorned from women at the moment. He smirked as Matt ordered them all shots. "Come on Ryan you haven't had a shot in forever." He said, laughing. Ryan looked at Matt, "That's because liquor and me don't mix." He said, shaking his head. He either got mean or completely wasted. Ryan took the shot though, knowing that it would be his last for the night.

Lexi smiled, "What's wrong?" She asked him as she touched his hands. She looked at him, thinking that something was up. "Okay spill the beans." She said, narrowing her eyes. "You are not good at lying good sir." She teased as she leaned over the counter almost laying on it. "Please please please tell me." She begged, laughing at him. Lexi loved that she could be herself with Oliver and she wished she could have a romantic relationship with him. She knew that would mess things up though.

Evie smiled as she followed Chloe introducing herself. "Nice to meet you Ryan I'm Evelyn but everyone calls me Evie." she said and shook his hand. Evie sat at the table between Ryan and James. She smiled as Matt ordered a round of drinks. "What are you trying to do Matt get us all drunk?" she asked and chuckled her eyes shinning mischievously. Evie took the shot regardless and shook her head. She didn't drink the hard stuff to often. It made her tongue to loos and she said things she often regretted in the morning realizing she held so many secrets. Honestly though Evie wondered what Matt was up to. He seemed to always be conducting some devilish scheme though with all the best intentions.

Oliver sighed. "There really is no keeping secrets from you is there?" he asked and smiled at her taking her hand into his caressing it softly.She was right though he really was no good at lying... well to her. Lexi knew him to well and he really didn't like kidding things from her anyways. She started to bug him about it and he laughed. She always knew how to get him to open up. Oliver came around the counter and pulled her close before holding her at arms length. "Lexi..." he sighed looking glum. He sat down at the kitchen table. "You know my parents were both children of parents with arranged marriages... Well they umm thought that it was important for me to have a wife as I continue on the family business." he said and rubbed the back of his neck not sure how to say it. "I'm suppose to meet her tonight. They expect me to propose." he said and looked down not wanting to see her reaction. He knew she thought he to often walked a straight line. She had always been his rebellion for him. His parents disliked her because of it but his childhood wouldn't have been the same without her.

Ryan watched as Matt continued to take shots with everyone. He decided to stay away from the liquor and just drink beer. Matt ordered a shot for Ryan and he shook his head, "No thanks man i'm good. Thanks though." He said. Matt looked at him, "Oh come on i'm just trying to make you forget about your bitch of an ex." He said. Ryan stared at his beer, "I'm fine." He said, pushing the shot away. He was getting annoyed with Matt who was now sharing his life with everyone else. Matt looked at James when he asked what happened, "Good question James. Ryan caught her cheating on him in the shower with some asshole." He said. Ryan stared at Matt, amazed at his drunkenness. He finished his beer, "I gotta go." He said, paying his bill before standing. He pulled his jacket on, "It was nice meeting you guys." He said.

Lexi stared at him in shock, "What?" She whispered. She couldn't believe this right now. She sat down in the chair in his living room. "Wow." She said, looking away from him. Lexi bit her bottom lip lightly. She wanted Oliver for herself and now he was going to be engaged to some random girl. Lexi looked at him and decided to play it off, "Well congrats." She said, coming out more sad that excited. Lexi got up and grabbed her jacket, "I'm gonna go so you have time alone." She said. She grabbed her purse then looked at Oliver, before she went over to him and hugged him tightly. She buried her face in his chest, not wanting to lose him to some girl.

After a couple Evie stopped drinking them watching Matt have the same problem she did and say to much. She bit her lip and looked down. "James." she hissed as he asked. It wasn't his business and he knew better than to take advantage of Matt's state. Evie could feel the tension in the air as Ryan pretty much stormed out. She frowned. "Matt you're done." she said and told the bartender who had been eyeing her earlier to cut him off. She shook her head. "Go home Matt." she said and paid her bill rushing out after Ryan. "Hey Ryan..." she walked briskly over to him. "Look I'm sure you know Matt but I just wanted to apologize on his behalf until he can himself tomorrow. It was none of our business." she said and bit her lip. She ran a hand through her hair the light catching on her hair making it shimmer like a penny in the sun. Evie shifted in her heels and looked over at the subway. "It was nice to meet you Ryan..." she said and then held her clutch in front of her with both hands. "I hope to see you around again some time... maybe next time under better circumstances." she said and smiled. "Well Ryan have a good rest of you're night I'm gonna grab the subway home." she said and smiled softly hoping that Matt wouldn't regret it to much in the morning but knowing him he would and Ryan did seem pretty upset about it.

Oliver looked up as he heard her sit down. He saw the sadness wash over her and he frowned. This wasn't her normal that sucks. This was something more and it confused him. Oliver stood as she did. He wished she wouldn't leave so soon. He figured though she was the one that needed the time to process this. Oliver moved to her as she came into his arms. He squeezed her hard and rested his head on hers. "Lexi..." he whispered her name wishing he had something more to say. Oliver cupped her cheek and moved her face so she looked up at him. "Can I call you later?" he asked really hoping he could talk to her later about how it went. "I'm nervous. This is the first time I'm going to be meeting her." he said a strange lump in his throat he hadn't expected to be there. This had been just weird until now when suddenly it felt like he was loosing something. He couldn't let her leave without making sure she would still be his friend through this. Oliver needed her.

Ryan lit a cigarette, then looked over as Evie appeared near him. "It's alright. I'm just...not in the mood to talk about it." He said as he exhaled smoke. He frowned when she said she was going to take the subway home. "You sure you don't want me to take you home?" He asked. Something about a pretty girl like her going home alone worried him. "I mean if that's okay. Feel free to say no if i'm overstepping my boundary." He explained. He put his cigarette out then looked around them. "I know a really good taco truck downtown though so you would be getting that benefit. My treat." He offered. Something about her made him feel relaxed and not so upset.

Lexi nodded, "Of course you can call me." She said as she kissed his cheek. "I'm glad you'll have someone Oliver." She said, smiling. "I will talk to you tonight." She said, stepping away. "Bye." She said before leaving his apartment. Lexi got back to her apartment and threw her purse down. She sat on the couch, crying as she held her cat, Snowball. She frowned as she thought about Oliver being with another girl. Lexi didn't want to lose her best friend. She hated his parents more than she had before.

Evie listed a perfectly sculpted eyebrow as he said he could take her home. She knew what he meant but it still put a grin on her face and a sparkle of playfulness in her eyes. She smiled more as he rambled on about not overstepping his boundary and buying tacos. "Tacos huh?" she chuckled and nodded. "Alright you're on." she said and smiled at him sweetly. Tacos were simple and after all that alcohol she needed something to eat anyways and even she had the need for greedy food when she was buzzed.

Oliver bit his lip as she left and he stood there not able to go after her. He ran a hand through his hair and then sat back at the table. She wasn't okay and he couldn't really do anything about it because he was pretty sure he was the one that had upset her so much. Oliver sighed and looked around his apartment not knowing what to do for the rest of the day until his dinner with the woman and their families at six. Oliver ran a hand through his hair and looked into speed flower services. He found ones he liked and had them delivered to Lexi. They would arrive about the time he had to leave for the city. He had a car attached to them that he hoped would measure her that he was not going to loose her. 'Lexi, You've always been my best friend but recently you've been more and I can only thank you for that and selfishly hope you will always be here for me. You're the only one who really knows me and no one is going to change that about us.' Oliver sighed and wasted some time cleaning up the apartment and doing laundry before he put on his tux and headed towards the city.

Ryan smiled, "Great." He said. He walked with her, "So how did you meet Matt?" He asked once they started towards the place he was taking her. She seemed pretty different than Matt. Then again Matt had changed a lot since he last seen him. Ryan was glad when they got to the food truck. "Or what you want." He said. He waited for her to ordered then got himself something. He paid for it then waited with her. Ryan looked at her and smiled, "So tell me some more about yourself." He said as he sat down with her on one of the benches. She seemed really nice. Ryan took a bite of his taco as he listened to her talk. Her voice was so calming and she had a light about her.

Lexi heard a knock on her door and looked through the peep hole. She opened it, smiling when the man handed her flowers. "Thank you." She said. She sat them on her counter then read the note with them. Lexi smiled when she seen what Oliver had wrote. He was so amazing and she wished he could be all hers. Lexi decided to take a bubble bath and relaxed while she waited for him to call. She took a sip of her whine and smiled when she heard her phone ring. She answered it and put it on speaker. "Hey. So...how did it go?" She slurred. She drank a lot of wine and she was never good with alcohol.

Evie smiled as they walked. "Matt?" She chuckled. "Well I moved to New York and he was one of the first people I met. And as Matt always does he invites people to stay in his home. Plus he was pretty into me." she said and chuckled remembering how hard he had tried hitting on her. At the time she had been doing a long distance relationship so it hadn't worked. "Matt helped me find a job and an apartment once I saved up for one. He was the perfect gentleman. Plus it helped that I was a bit of a hippie then and Matt was well he was sophisticated and refined, everything I wanted to be coming from Las Vegas." she said. "The rest I guess is history as they say it." she said and smiled as they got to the truck. "Thank you." she said and ordered a couple tacos. Once they got their orders and sat down he asked her to tell him more about herself. She took a bite of her taco and groaned softly her eyes fluttering as she chewed softly. She chuckled as she swallowed. "Mmm." she wiped her mouth and then looked at Ryan. "Well like I said I'm from Las Vegas Nevada. I have my bachelors in medical research. So now I am trying to find the cure to childhood Leukemia." she said and blushed. She hated to talk about her work, people always told her how noble the cause was. "Umm I really am not sure what else you might want to know. I guess I like to go to art museums and theater performances. Really I just enjoy New York." she said running out of things to say. "What about you Ryan? How do you know Matt?" she asked.

Oliver got home from the night in the city. It had ben so stuffy he felt sick. He called Lexi as soon as he got home. "Hey Lex." he teased and chuckled hearing her slur. She must have been drinking. "It was so stuffy I don't think I will be able to clear the air for days." he said and laughed. "And my umm... Rebecca is well... opinionated. She is gonna have the ring resized since it's to big now. My parents seem to like her though. I just... I feel like I'm suffocating Lexi." he said and ran a hand through his hair hoping to pull the cool air into his lungs. He changed into his flannel pants and he laid back on the bed. " Oliver could go on and on about how bad it went but he didn't want to. "So did you get them?" he asked.

Ryan was surprised at all the stuff she did with her life, "Well you have me beat." He said, looking down at his food. He looked back at her, "I've known Matt since we were kids. We grew up on the same block, but kind of drifted apart. He went off to do big fancy things and me well...Here i am." He said. He looked at her and smiled, "I'm in a band that makes pretty good money and until recently i was in a five year relationship." He said, looking down at his food. Ryan looked at her, "I know this really good club down here that has decent bands do you want to go?" He asked once he finished his food. He didn't want to go home to a lonely bedroom. He liked the company.

Lexi frowned when he said her name, "Ew i hate that name. It just screams bitch." She said. "Sorry anyway." She said, laughing. Lexi took a sip of her wine, "I did they were amazing." She said. "Thank you Oliver." She said. She bit her bottom lip lightly, "I miss you." She said. Lexi wished he was with her. "You should come over and watch movies with me. I'm lonely." She said as she relaxed in the bath water. "Plus i'm fun." She teased, giggling. Lexi honestly wanted Oliver to stay the night with her. He did sometimes and they would lay in bed snuggling and talking. Nothing too serious it just made her feel less alone.

Evie shrugged as he said she had him beat. She never considered herself anymore than others for knowing what she wanted to do in life. She smiled listening to him talk about Matt. Evie chuckled and nodded. Matt was the kind to inspire greatness in others because he was great... when he wasn't drunk that was. "A band huh?" she smiled thinking how interesting that must be. "What do you all play?" she asked. Evie bit her lip thinking how long five years was. This must be really hard for him. She had never been in a relationship that long. Evie finished her food as he told her more about the band. He seemed relieved she didn't ask more about his past relationship. When he suggested a club she bit her lip and looked down at the tacos she had just finished. "Dancing might do me some good." she admitted. Evie stood and put her trash in the trash can. Evie smiled at Ryan wondering if he was hoping for company into the night. She didn't know him nearly well enough for that but she didn't mind being a friend for the night.

Oliver laughed and nodded though he knew she couldn't see it. "Yeah well that kind of sums up how the night went. He said agreeing with Lexi but he was to kind to use suck words towards anyone. Oliver felt Lexi's words like a stone dropping in his gut. He ran a hand through his hair. He ran a hand through his hair and closed his eyes a moment. He chuckled as she said she was fun. "Lexi if anyone ever overheard our conversations they would think something was going on." he said and shook his head though there was a sad tone to his words though he had meant them to be playful. "I'll be right over." he said. "And Lexi I miss you too." he said and then hung up. Oliver pulled on a shirt and some house shoes grabbing his wallet and keys. He went down to his car and drove over to Lexi's place. He knocked softly as he stuck the key in the lock and turned slowly walking into her apartment as he let himself in. "Lexi." he called out and closed the door behind him and locked it. He had brought her favorite drunk food. He didn't think she was drunk yet but he knew she would like the food anyways pause it would help absorb the alcohol.

Ryan smiled, "Not that kind of dance club, but you'll have fun." He said as he walked with her. He smiled as they walked into the club and rock music filled his ears. He loved it and it made him feel peaceful. Ryan smiled as he got her something to drink then found a table in the back. He didnt she was ready to be in the crowd near the stage. He looked at her, "Not what you expected?" He asked laughing. He looked over as the band started, then looked at Evie to see that she actually did seem interested. "I use to play here when i first started out." He told her over the music.

Lexi walked out in a tank top and booty shorts smiling when she seen Oliver. "Oliver!" She exclaimed as she set her wine down. She went over and hugged him before she took the food from him. "Ugh your the best. You always know what to bring." She said as she sat down and began to eat. She looked at him, "You're my best friend." She said drunkenly. She took a sip of her wine then put the leftovers in the fridge. Leftover chinese was always the best. Lexi walked over to him, "Lets go lay down." She said as she put her wine glass away. She jumped into her bed with him and snuggled up to him. Lexi wrapped her arms around him. She didnt care what anyone said, Oliver was hers and he always would be.

Evie chuckled. "Alright." she said and smiled. Evie went with him and walked into the club and bit her lip. She was amazed at the place that Ryan took her too. She looked around at everything glad when he sat them in the back. He got her a drink and she only sipped gingerly at it. Evie smiled and shook her head. "Defiantly not what I expected." she said. Evie smiled as he said that he use to play here. "Really that's awesome!" she said over the music. She thought that it was admirable that he played in a band and did well at it. She didn't understand it herself but she could admire that he could do it. "So what instrument do you play or do you sing?" she asked and smiled at him. She listened to the music. "What is this rock?" she asked.

Oliver smiled hugging her back. He sat with her as she started to eat. He turned on the tv. He sat with her and smiled when she was done. "You're my best friend too Lexi." he said and chuckled turning off the tv. Oliver stood and walked with her to her room. He laid down with Lexi and wrapped his arms around her. "Lexi... are you okay?" he asked. Oliver was worried about her. She had been acting different since this morning when he told her about what he had to do.

Ryan looked at her, "Yes it is." He said. He smiled, "I play the guitar and sing." He said. He took a sip of his beer. "So what made you decide to do the job that you do?" He asked as he looked at her. He wanted to know more about her. He smiled as he listened to her talk about her passion to help people. "Well you seem to really enjoy it and that's good. Everyone should do something they love for their life." He explained. "Matt...doesnt do that. He wants money and at the end of the day he always told me he's not happy. That's his issue though." He said. Ryan smiled as the band took a break. He looked at her. "So how do you spend your time off?" He asked. He wanted to know more about her.

Lexi looked at him, "Yea." She said. She sighed and sat up, "I just don't see why you have to do this. It's stupid. It's not like we live in midevial times Oliver. You can say no." She said. She had always encouraged him to stand up to his parents. Which is why his parents hated her. She convinced him to do things he would never do. Lexi looked away from him, "I just don't want you to be miserable your whole life." She said, looking back at him.

Evie wasn't sure if she was really into the music. It was more harsh than she was use to. She smiled wondering what his singing voice sounded like. He asked about her job and she bit her lip. "Well I have always liked since and well when I was young my favorite thing in school was looking into the microscope. I loved to watch the slides change and notice the small differences and I guess I wanted to make a difference so I picked leukemia." she said. She nodded knowing Matt was more materialistic then other people but she knew he would figure it all out one day. Evie smiled as he asked what she did with her time off. "Well I go to opening exhibits and fundraisers but when I get a chance between my busy social life I hit up the down town art scene." she said and smiled. "What about you Ryan what do you do when you're not busy rocking a crowd?" she asked teasingly.

Oliver sighed and sat up on his elbows a little. "I know it doesn't make sense Lexi." he said and ran a hand through his hair. "But they are just trying to do what's best for me." he said and bit his lip. "Besides it's not like there are a ton of other women lining up to marry me and into what will be my life. When I take over the business it will be long ours establishing bonds with my clients and getting them to trust me. It's not like I can just go out and find someone that is going to be okay with that and yet is as close to me as you." he said and sighed. He knew he was just reseting what his parents had said to him really but without adding in how they had told him again how bad of an influence Lexi was on him. "Besides I don't want to talk about it anymore. I have eight months of being single and another year before I have to take over the business and I don't want to spend a second thinking about it when I could just be enjoying you." he said and sat up now poking her side knowing right were her tickle spot was and getting her to giggle.

Ryan stared at her, "Me? Well, i'm out doing this. Seeing rock shows and hanging out with my friends. I mean i use to be pretty focused on being home with...Monica, but not really an option now." He said. He took a swig of his beer, "So here i am." He said. He thought about the art shows, "What kind of art are you into?" He asked her. He enjoyed artwork as well, though he was sure she was into something different than he was. Ryan liked when people had different interests though. It seemed to make things more fun for the both of them. Ryan smiled as he listened to her talk.

Lexi frowned as he spoke, but couldn't help but giggle when he poked her. "No cool Oliver. You can't do something like that when i'm upset with you." She said. She smiled and hugged his body to hers. They had always been close friends and Lexi showing affection like this was not uncommon. Hell her first kiss was Oliver when they were little because they wanted to see what the big deal was. Lexi looked at him and sighed, "Let's just relax and watch tv." She said as she snuggled him. She watched the tv, thinking about how she had eight months to change his mind.

Evie chuckled as he started. There was no one else here she was talking too. She was surprised when he shared more about his ex. She nodded as he kept talking though and went right a long as he changed the subject. "Well I like all kinds really." she said and blushed softly looking at her drink as she took another sip. What she found most fascinating were the nude drawings. Something about the rough sketch of the human body was absolutely beautiful. It seemed to reveal the soul of the person to her but she didn't know Ryan well enough to tell him that. "I think street art is were you'll find the next Picasso or Van Gogh." She said and chuckled her eyes glowing with warmth as she talked about art. The music started again and she looked over at the band. She didn't know if she liked this band or not but she liked the experience of hearing it.

Oliver chuckled. "Hey that's what I'm good at." he said and hugged her back messing up her hair as she pulled back. He nodded and let her pick something to watch snuggling up with her. Oliver looked over at the time a few hours later and he looked down at Lexi. "Mind if I stay over tonight I'm to tired to go home." he said and grinned as she agreed. He yawned and stretched out. He pulled Lexi closer her warmth seeming to seep into his soul receiving him of the stress of the day. He couldn't believe he was tqchniqly engaged and cuddled up to another woman. It seemed wrong but Lexi was the only girl he could see himself getting close to.

Ryan smiled at her, "I like art but nothing too fancy. I like modern stuff." He said with a shrug. His ild apartment was full of it but he had to sell most of it. "Maybe we can go look at art together sometime." He suggested. He really wanted to spend time with her. She caught his eye and that was hard to do. She was the complete opposite of his ex and that was what he needed.

Lexi woke up the next morning and stretched. She smiled when she see Oliver. She got up going to the kitchen to start breakfast. Lexi liked having Oliver at her apartment. She smiled as Snowball meowed at her, "Okay you brat i will get your food." She said as she fed the cat. Lexi frowned when she heard a knock on the door. She opened it shocked to see Oliver's mom, "wheres my son." She said frowning. Lexi sighed, "Oliver!" She called. She turned to see him, "Your mother." She said before walking away. She rolled her eyes as his mom lectured him about being with her since he was engaged now.
