Alice

Ryder stood outside of the room where the scientist experimented on the young girl behind the door. Her screams could be heard down the hallway, a sound that Ryder had become too familiar with. He had been guarding her door since day one. Ryder had decided that enough was enough and tonight he was going to save Alice. It was what they had been calling her in order for people to not know her real name. She had adjusted to the name and actually believed it was her name.

Ryder watched as the scientist left then walked into the room, looking down at the girl who was restrained to the table. "Alice." He said, seeing her look at him. He was glad she was still responding. "My name is Ryder and i'm going to get you out of here okay?" He explained. He didn't need her freaking out. He wasn't sure how crazy her mind was, but they said it was pretty active. Ryder untied her, "Just stay with me." He said as he walked to the door opening it. He walked down the hallway, holding his gun close, ready to shoot anyone. He wouldn't watch this girl get tortured any longer.

Alice screamed as the drug they had inserted into her wore off. The drugs made her mind light up like a tree they said trying to control the pain. They said it hurt worse then child labor being shot and much more. Basically they were seeing how far they could push her before she died. Not that they would let her die that is they had a medical team for her. Alice was barely holding on to consciousness when someone walked into the room. He said her name and she looked up at him trying to focus on his face. She smiled softly. He had a nice face. My name is Ryder and i'm going to get you out of here okay? Alice heard the voice but could hardly understand. Wasn't he a guard here? Just stay with me. He said and she laid their on the table in only a white shirt that hardly went down to her thighs. She groaned not sure she could move when he looked at her and picked her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck her head resting on his shoulder her breath still coming out in quick puffs. They passed two other guards one of them smiled. "About time someone gets that girl out of here. "Hit me so it looks good." he said and then let himself be knocked out. The other guard drew his gun. "Stop you can't take the projects out of the restricted area." he said.
Once they passed the restricted area the alarms sounded. They finally made it out of the building and he placed her in the back of a car and got in the drivers seat. He spend off ramming through a gate . She closed her eyes able to hear everything her mind already starting to work again preparing her body but it required the sleep she had been deprived of. Alice fell asleep in the back of that car and slept for nearly a week.

Alice woke tucked into a bed. She opened her eyes analyzing everything before she sat up. The sunlight in the room was telling her that it was 11 o'clock and the smell of food in the air told her the man had just brought back food. She looked around and spotted him at the table a burrito in hand and looking at her like she just raised from the dead. Alice lurched back into her mind for his name. "Ryder." she said an tilted her head. Alice stood and walked over to him taking the burrito and taking a huge bite then another sitting on the edge of the bed until she had devoured the entire thing and her stomach grumbled as if she had not just eaten that giant burrito. "I apologize for stealing your meal." she said and then stood and turned her back headed towards the bathroom and stripped off the shirt she still had on. She tossed it aside. looking at it like she wanted to burn it. Alice walked into the shower leaving the door open and turned on the water. She smiled as she put her hand under the warm water and stepped under it. She sighed as it cascaded down her naked body. She realized her social cues were off but she needed a few basic human needs before she could think of recreating them.

Ryder looked up when he heard her say his name, smiling at her. "About time you woke up." He said as she took the burrito from him. He shook his head as she apologized, "You need it more than i do." He said. He looked away as she began to strip out of her clothes. He wanted to be respectful. After all she had been treated like some kind of animal for almost a year now. The hotel room he got wasn't a lot, but it would do til she was ready to keep going. Ryder stood up and made sure the door was locked and bolted shut. He looked over at his gun on the table then sat back in the chair. Ryder looked over at her, "So...feeling better? I got you a change of clothes in the dresser." He said. He knew she would want actual clothes. Ryder took a sip of his water and leaned back against his chair.

Alice came back out in a towel her golden brown hair combed back. She chuckled as he asked if she was better. "You would think that is a simple answer." she said and looked in the draw smiling as she saw a couple outfits and new pjs. She grabbed some jeans and undergarments and then a shirt. Alice dropped the towel and started to dress as she spoke. "Physically my body has recuperated though I seem to still have a limit to what I can do right now but I suspect that is mental as well. I also do not remember my true identity or what happened before I woke up the first day in the facility, I amuse it was the first day for they started calling me Alice and I remember trying to tell them that was wrong but I do not remember what I was correcting them with." she sighed frustrated as she pulled on her bra then her shirt and was dressed. Alice flipped her hair then rubbed it out a little before she turned to him and smiled seeing he yet again was looking away for her modesty. "I am dressed." she assured him. "I also seem to feel a if most of my cognitive capabilities are still dimmed as if suppressed by that drug still but I am positive it is out of my system unless you delivered some type of injection with an unidentifiable substance for repression I am unaware of." she said and shook her head. "But that seems an unlikely scenario." Alice said and came and sat beside them. "But socially the response you are looking for is yes thank you." she said and touched his hand before sitting back. "Now if you would please explain what you would risk your life for me not to mention the other reproductions and dangers you are likely to encounter."

Ryder listened to her as she ranted, god she was as smart as they said. She wasn't even functioning on her full mental capacity. He smiled as she stopped and took his hand. "I don't know your real name. I just know they called you Alice." He assured her. He thought for a moment, "I risked my life because i was sick of listening to them experiment on you. I was there everyday outside that door. They didn't even talk about you like you were human." He said, thinking about how they acted like she was some kind of alien. Ryder knew it wasn't right and his morals took over. Sure the pay was great, but he wouldn't let another human being suffer. "I'm glad you are okay. Can i get you anything?" He asked. "We can't stay here long i'm afraid. They will be looking for us." He said, looking over at the window that he had pulled the blinds closed over.

Alice smiled as he spoke. "Gaging that we have been here about 4 days by the wrappers and such in the trash and the amount of sleep I needed. I have been asleep about 6 days then I say yes it is time to move for sure and sooner rather then later." she said and peeked out the side of the window. "Aww you drove an entire day at least good. Alright then let's pack and we can pick up some more food on the way. The only thing I currently need is food." she said and smiled. "And Ryder..." she stood and waited until he did as well. "Thank you." She said and smiled gently before grabbing the duffle bag from the closet finding a jacket in there and pulling it on. He had gone half a day out of his way to get these items. She was impressed already by him. Alice stuffed her new cloths and anything else in there that she could and thought they might need before slinging it over her shoulder. "How many rounds do you have left?" she asked as they headed towards the door. She didn't want to take his gun away but it logically made sense if he gave her the gun. She might not be a marksman like himself but she could use math to help her figure out were and how to shoot the gun most efficiently.

Ryder nodded when she said she wanted to get on the road, "Alright let's get going." He said as he began to pack up his stuff. He took his gun, looking at her. "At least six." He said. He knew it wasn't much and he had to make every single one of them count. "Why do you ask?" He asked as they walked towards his jeep. He helped her in then he got in and started towards their next destination. "Where did you want to get food from?" He asked as they drove. He relaxed as he watched the road ahead of them. As long as they kept moving he knew that they would be okay. He had to get her as far away from the facility as possible. "Do you know where you are from?" He asked. He wondered where she lived prior to them taking her.

Alice smiled as he confirmed what she had believed was in his gun. "Oh nothing just wondering." she said knowing it was illogical to let him keep it even dangerous but she owed him the curtesy of letting him keep it and being in that role of protector instead of protected. "I would like to get some weapons of my own at some point though." she said and then thought about food. "Somewhere they don't have cameras and I can get a bunch of food without being conspicuous." she said her belly rumbling again as if to prove her point and she chuckled rubbing it gently. "No I do not remember were I am from though I can defiantly say not from the south, I do not have that accent and I say Soda not Pop. Though I could be from anywhere from the central of America to the west coast." Alice said and shrugged. "That is not important because I can not go back home anyways." She watched out the mirrors and counted cars looking at them and then at their own car. They needed something less conspicuous. "Ryder... thank you really for helping me. But if you are not wanting this life you should get out now." she said.

Ryder looked at her when she said where she wanted to eat. He nodded, "I know a good place." He said. He parked at a small bar in the middle of nowhere. "They have good food here." He said as he parked the car. "If i didnt want this i wouldnt have helped." He said as he walked with her, keeping her close. He didnt trust people. Ryder got them a booth in the back and watched as she counted stuff. "You really are a genuis arent you?" He asked smiling.

Alice smiled as they walked into the building and sat down. She ordered a couple things and then a drink as well. Finally she answered Ryder's question. "That word is inadequate to describe my level of cognitive function and abilities. It also does not accurately describe the reproductions. I want you to understand that this is not a super power. I am a genetic anomaly and there will be more people like me though slightly different in time. It is evolutions way of trying to find the perfect creation." Alice sighed as the drink was placed in front of her and she downed the drink then ordered a tea. She smiled at him. "Besides when you understand a few basic things and are able to recall everything you have ever learned or heard or seen, then things become fairly easy. What about you Ryder? You must be very smart in order to get out of that facility with minimal casualties." she said and smiled.

Ryder took a sip of his water as he listened to her talk. Even the way she talked made him feel lesser. "Im pretty smart but no where near your level. Im a firm believer that a person never really quits learning." He said as he opened his menu. Our brains are programed foe us to always be able to learn." He said as he looked over the menu.

"Aww brain plasticity it is a brilliant concept." Alice said and smiled at him. "I'm impressed none the less." she said and grinned as they brought out the appetizer. "You should eat too I ate your food." she said and started to eat. She was so glad to get something into her belly. Alice grinned as she sat back and looked at him. "Ryder I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate what you did." she said and smiled softly. "It literally saved my life and I know it destroyed yours." she said knowing that at some point he would realize just how much.

Ryder ate some of the appetizer after ordering his food, "I didn't have much going on in my life anyway." He muttered. "I don't have any family and very few friends. Figured i might as well do something productive with my life." He said as he took a sip of his drink. He really did think helping Alice was the best thing for him. He wanted to be remembered. Even if it was a criminal.

Alice smiled. "Well thank you again." she said hoping when he realized the amount of freedom he was giving up as the manhunt got bigger that he wouldn't resent her. She grinned and pulled her legs into her seat. "So Ryder how old are you?" she asked. She knew she looked younger then she was but she needed to know things about Ryder.

Ryder smiled, "I'm twenty five." He said. He looked over as their food was brought to them. He began to eat, "How old are you?" He asked. He knew a bit about her, but he had not went to far into her files. He just knew that they had basically kidnapped her to experiment on her.

Alice smiled as she looked at her food and picked up a fork. "Mmm I believe I'm 19 and my birthday is... July 30th. So approximately two more moths until my 20th birthday." she said and smiled at him. "Wow I can't believe it's been nearly three years." she said and shook her head amazed that they had kept her so long. "Anyways this food is great!" she said and snarfed some more down not caring that se was acting like a starved loon because she was starved in some sense.

Ryder smiled as she dug in, "Im glad you like it." He said. He began to eat then looked at her, "So where should we head to?" He asked. He figured he should use her brain to help them escape. She could predict everyones move which gave them an advantage

Alice thought a while before she nodded at what he asked. "Over seas would be best but getting there will be problematic and we probably want to stay here within the first year and a half at least. So umm let's... talk about this more privately." she said her eyes scanning the crowd. It didn't seem anyone was watching but she wasn't going to give away her best plan here where just anyone could over hear it.

Ryder nodded, "Sure we will discuss it more in the car." He said as he continued to eat. He had no idea where they were going to hide for the next year and a half. He was hoping that she had a good idea of what they could do. Ryder sighed as he relaxed when he was done eating. He wanted to make sure Alice was done before they left. He knew that it had been a long time since she had eaten anything. The scientist had really not gave a damn about her well being at all.
