Fighting To Get Ahead

He nodded a little, "Goodnight Ms. Hall," he said to her, "Get a good nights rest we're going to need you bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow,"

Brian sighed. "You haven't made a lot of friends, so I would ask you correct them but politely. They're stupid enough to find a way to have you fired even if you know more than they do,"

Corinne nodded, grabbing her bag and damn near running toward the door. The whole situation was strange and stressful. "You as well, Mr. Anthony." She said politely. She went outside and walked to the bus stop, waiting to catch the bus back home.

She sighed a little, "I was hired to do my job, I was raised with boys - I have three brothers all of whom think they're better than me except for the youngest," she smiled a little then sighed, "Men like them don't scare me, they amuse me," she admitted lightly then nodded a little. "Not being able to recognize your own faults is a sorry trait, so I don't sugarcoat things; men do it all the time, telling people how things are but when its a woman who puts a man in his place or corrects them it's wrong," she murmured then sighed as she walked to the coffee machine.

"You're something else," He said, smiling a bit. "And while I don't disagree, I don't want to see you go either. The space race is important, they sent a rocket up before we did. We need to make sure man can orbit before they do," He said softly. "And I know they can have you fired if they really wanted, no matter how useful you are. I want to beat those Russians more than half of the people in this building and I need all of the people who can help here. That means you too."

She nodded a little then sighed, "Well, then I suggest they start pulling their weight," she told him as she took a sip of her coffee, "I just like doing this, its mentally stimulating which really rare these days," she said rubbing the back of her neck - most days she was bored, sitting in her room or working on something with her mother for the house. It was nothing she wanted, she wanted to learn to expand her knowledge, she grasped concepts more thank quickly.

"I want you here, we need minds like yours," He told her. "They need someone to fact check, which you can do." He said, sighing a bit. "You need lots of rest for tomorrow, its going to be a big day.

"I do, I'll make sure to eat a good meal more fuel for the brain," she said to him smiling a little as she finished her coffee, "do you know what time it is? I've lost track,"

"Eight p.m," He said to her. "You'll be pulling late nights at this rate." He smiled a little. "Sure you don't need anything else? Aside from more coffee?"

She smiled a little then nodded, "I think the buses stop running at seven," she murmured thoughtfully, and her father would be sitting down for dinner right about now she couldn't ask them to come get her. "Would you like to get something to eat? I'm starved and I have a bit of money," she offered as she looked up at him as she wet her lips.
