I was wondering if any of you have characters with mental health struggles or disabilities. I would love to hear about them! Post your characters here and tell us a little about them and what they have to deal with. :3 Let's promote some awareness for mental health and disabilities! I wasn't sure where to post this.

    I'll go first.

Luca has an autism spectrum disorder, bipolar II and PTSD with nightmare disorder. He is actually a very kind and sweet person. He's a little childish and immature, and he can also be aggressive at times. Though, it's usually if he's having a panic attack.

A disproportionate amount of my characters struggle with anxiety because, well, write what you know. Facepalm

One of my favorite OCs, Will, is riddled with issues, frankly. He suffers from anxiety (IDK a specific disorder, but he has anxiety issues) and also has struggled with anorexia in his past, he still has lingering body image issues and probably always will, that's not something that just goes away, unfortunately. He's a sweet dude though. He also has a bad habit of looking for love in all the wrong places (and occasionally struggling with the fear of being the "promiscuous slut bisexual" stereotype) but that's not really a mental disorder so much as a personal problem of a different nature. XD

I've also written several characters with depression (some with suicidal thoughts, some without) and PTSD.

I actually really love writing about mental health issues, partly because I have them and know lots of people who have them and partly because I used to be a psych major and just generally have an interest in psychology.

I tend to write a lot of mental illness into my characters. I have one character that has OCD with psychosis and an unknown personality disorder with a touch of PTSD. He lost his family at a young age in a car accident. Life in the children's home was hard on him. The only thing that kept him going was his obsession for his favorite musician. Unfortunately, he makes a series of bad decisions that don't end well for him.

Another character has a lot baggage from a previous abusive relationship. He now struggles with a benzo addition, and when sufficiently stoned has serious PTSD flashbacks. This story isn't finished yet (because I'm not sure where to go with it), but he is currently seeking help from a licensed professional.

    Those are my two favorites!

I believe that it would be best for you to decide such a complex issue with your doctor, and not on the forum. Or you haven't found the right specialist yet? I think that in this case it would be best to find not only a family doctor with experience, but also a psychotherapist, because often our health problems overlap with somatics.

Have you heard about a new remedy that helps restore your psychological health? I'm talking about https://thirdshroom.com/product-category/magic-mushroom-tea/. I started taking this tea at a time when I was having problems at work and suffering from stress. This tea really helped me to cope more easily with all the difficulties that were worsening my psychological health. It's a great not expensive remedy that is worth it.
