It's a Beautiful Day

When Gabby's alarm clock went off the next morning, she reached off quickly turning it off. Sitting up in bed, she stretched a little before noticing that Derek was already out of bed. Hearing noise downstairs, Gabby slowly slipped out of bed before making her way downstairs. She smiled at the side of Derek's backside as he stood in the den, drinking his coffee. She walked over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist. "Good Morning Dr. Shepherd." She whispered.

The next morning, Mark woke up and got ready for the day. He couldn't help but frown a little when he saw that Emily wasn't home and had this feeling that she wasn't coming home. Grabbing his things. Mark walked out of the apartment, locking up the apartment, before going downstairs to get in his car. He drove to the newest coffee shop, getting his usual with a breakfast sandwich then drove to the hospital. Walking in, he said a casual good morning to some people before going to go find Emily, figuring that she was in one of the on-call rooms. He smiled when he slowly opened the door to one of the on-call rooms, seeing his girlfriend peacefully laying there sleeping.

Derek smiled slowly turning to see her standing there, "Good morning baby." Derek smiled leaning down kissing her lips. "How are you today?" Derek asked pulling her close and gently kissing her one more time. "Did you sleep well?" He asked smiling at his fiancee.

Hearing a door open up, Emily slowly opened up her eyes looking towards the door. She saw Mark there and gave him a light smile, "Hey handsome." She whispered closing her eyes back wore out. She took and laid there with her eyes closed trying to not fall back asleep till her boyfriend was gone.

Kissing him softly on the lips, Gabby slowly pulled back to look at him. "I am doing wonderful." She smiled as she looked at her fiancé. "I slept perfectly and can't believe that I'm engaged." She said, looking down at her engagement. "I still feel like I am dreaming, every time I look down at this beautiful ring." She smiled, kissing him once more.

Mark smiled, giving her a wink. "Good Morning Beautiful." He whispered before pulling herself to him, kissing her softly on the lips. "It was lonely not having you at home last night. But I managed." He spoke as he brushed some hair away from her face. "By the way, our little Gabriella said yes to Derek Shepherd's proposal." He noted, keeping her close to him.

Derek smiled at her kissing her one more time. "It's not a dream." He grinned smiling kissing her again. "I am glad you slept good, and had a good night." Derek smiled at her. "I got your coffee on the island ready like you like it. We gotta be leaving soon for the hospital." Derek smiled kissing her lips lightly.

Emily opened her eyes up and smiled, "That's good." Emily smiled at Mark. "I'm glad she said yes." Emily whispered yawning. "I hate to, I missed you too. But I need to sleep. I'm so worn out." She whispered looking at Mark and smiling lightly at him.

"Let me go upstairs and change then." She said softly as she rushed upstairs getting ready. She threw on a light pink blouse, black dress pants, and black shoes. She made sure she had her bag with her before putting on her make up and putting her hair into bun. Once she was ready, Gabby walked back downstairs, going straight into the kitchen for her coffee. She took a sip of it and just smiled. "Mmm..." she said with a bright smile. "Perfect coffee." she winked to him.

Mark smiled, "Well I am here now with you, and you'll be seeing me all day." He grinned as he kissed the top of her head. "I will go and let you rest a little bit longer. I've got a couple of patients to see this morning." He said before kissing her once more. "I love you." He then slipped out of the on-call room, going to go about his patients.

Derek chuckled smiling at him, "I know you oh too well." Derek smiled kissing her lips putting his mug into the sink and putting water in it. He smiled at Gabby as he walked through the house grabbing his brief case and things he needed for the day.

"I love you too, Mark." Emily whispered watching him walk away. She rolled onto her side yawning as she took and closed her eyes. She gave back into the sleep trying to get at least an hour or two of sleep before the rest of her day went onward.

Gabby smiled at him, nodding in full agreement. "Yes you do." She said as she took a sip of her coffee, taking in the goodness that was in the cup. While Derek grabbed his things for the day, Gabby's eyes followed her fiancé's body, just admiring him. When she finished her coffee, she quickly rinsed the mug before putting it in the sink. "Alright honey, I am ready." She announced, making her way into the family room.

Mark went about his morning, checking the patients. He had a few surgeries to do today, and he was looking forward to them. The first one wasn't to start for a while, so that meant Emily had some time to still sleep. Taking with a couple of the interns, he gave them strict instructions on what to do with his pre-op patients. After that, he walked down the hall, waiting to see when Derek and Gabby would get here. He checked the time, deciding he would go check on Emily as he waited.

Derek smiled at her. He walked to the car and put his things in the back seat. Getting inside he started it up and pulled out as he smiled at Gabby as they headed for the hospital. Once he was parked at the hospital he got out and got his things. He walked with his fiancee and smiled at her. He took and kissed the side of her cheek as he walked into the locker room to get into his scrubs and prepped for the day.

Sitting in the on call room holding her phone. She was shocked at the results on her phone from the lab. Biting her lip she saw the door open and saw Mark walk in. Staring at her boyfriend she gave him a little smile. "Hey I was about to come out and find you." Emily told him getting up. "Mark we need to talk before you go back out." She told him.

Seeing his eyes bulge a little she pulled her phone out showing him the lab results. "Are we ready for this?" Emily asked her boyfriend sighing. "Are we really ready for a baby, Mark?" She questioned biting on her lip.

When they got to the hospital, Gabby said a few quick good mornings to some of the hospital staff. She continued to follow Derek towards the locker rooms, going straight to the residence lockers. She was going to quickly change into her scrubs. Once she was changed, Gabby walked out of the locker room, heading for her fiancé's office. When she got there, she smiled seeing Derek in his scrubs. "I went ahead and checked on your pre-op patients to make sure that they're doing good. Everything is going well with each of them." She said, stepping further into his office. "Are you ready for today? Your day is packed with surgeries."

Mark's eyes went a little big when he read the test results, but they quickly went small again, looking up at Emily. His once shocked face was now replaced with a big cheeky grin. "Baby, we are more than ready for this." He said with a chuckle. Moving closer to her, Mark kissed her softly on the lips, letting his hand drop down to her still-flat stomach. "Emily Stone...you continue to make me the happiest man in the world." He said as he kept her close to him. He then took a moment to let this sink in, "How are you feeling? Are you okay with this?"

Hearing Gabby walk in and speak to him. Derek smiled at his fiancée and nodded. “It’s a beautiful day to save lives, sweetheart.” Derek smiled leaning over kissing her lips. “Are you ready? Because you’re going to be with me all day.” Derek told her pulling her close softly and kissing her lips.

Emily felt his hand on her stomach and smiled softly, “I’m nervous as hell.” Emily whispered. “I have six more months then my boards. But I am determined to finish this out so after I have the baby. I can be back working here.” Emily whispered cupping his cheek. “I’m sick all the time, but I am ok with this.” She leaned up kissing his lips deeply.

Gabby kissed Derek softly on the lips as she smiled at his words. Pulling back, she looked to him. "I am ready. How am I ever going to survive." She teased as she kept her body closer to his. She kissed him on the lips once more, then looked at the time. "I think we should get going, Dr. Shepherd." She grinned, pulling away from him. She turned to him, giving him that look. "It's a beautiful day to save lives." She winked with a smirk.

Mark put a hand on her cheek, closing the small gap between the two of them. "Baby, we are going to do this. We're going to be parents." He said with much excitement. Listening to her go on about her boards, he just nodded. "Hey, it's okay. We will work this all out as time goes." He reassured her before pressing their lips together. When the broke apart once more, Mark looked down at her. "Well, tell me what can I do? I know I can't do much since you're the one with the morning sickness, but please tell me, how can I make things better for you?"

Chuckling at her words, Derek shook his head lightly, "Hey that's my line." He smirked walking out with her. He took and leaned in kissing her lips deeply. He walked towards the OR ready for the first surgery he had. He took and scrubbed in getting ready to save this woman's life.

Emily looked at him and smiled, "Just being here helps." Emily whispered kissing his lips lightly. She felt the wave of sickness wash over her. "On second thought don't were that cologne anymore." She rushed out running for a bathroom. Once she'd emptied her stomach she walked back out slowly and saw Mark waiting on her. "Oh that was awful." She whispered popping a mint into her mouth and sighing heavily.

Gabby couldn't help but laugh as she walked out of Derek's office, him following behind her. Leaning in, she kissed him once again, then pulled back. "You know since telling Richard about us, I feel like you can't do anything else but kiss me everywhere we go." She joked, walking towards the OR. The start of the surgeries for Derek had officially began, and the first was going to be kind of long; however, she was up for anything as long as Derek was by her side. Waling into the scrub room, she quickly scrubbed in, ready to help save this woman's life.

Mark nodded with a sweet, yet concerning smile. He kissed her lips, still smiling. However when they pulled back, he couldn't help but frown seeing her look instantly pale. Hearing her comment about not wearing that cologne anymore, Mark made a metal note to himself to change it when he got home. He waited outside the bathroom for her to come out, already having a bottle of water in hand for her. When she came out of the bathroom, the same concerning frown was on his face. "I'm sorry baby." He handed her the bottle of water.

Derek got ready as he walked into the OR. Letting the on hand nurse tie his mask. He slipped his hands into the gloves walking over to the woman's head. He took and looked at Gabby and smiled at his team. "It's a beautiful day to save lives, guys." He smiled as he took the scalpel and looked at Gabby. "You do this first." He smiled at his fiancee.

Emily smiled at Mark, "It's part of pregnancy." She whispered taking the bottle of water from him. She sipped it and sighed in content a little bit. She walked with Mark as she yawned a little bit. "I did manage to check some of your pre-op patients this morning before I crashed." Emily told Mark.

Excitement rushed through her veins as Derek handed her the scalpel. She knew it was quite the honor to start off the surgery, especially when doing one with Derek Shepherd. Letting her eyes connect with his for a solid minute, Gabby took a deep breath in then out before beginning. For her, this was the umpteenth time that she got to go beside Derek Shepherd, so the nervous side of her was well gone. As they proceeded with the surgery, Gabby intently listened and watched, being easily mesmerized by her very talented fiancé.

Mark watched her, just nodding, knowing that there was truly not much that he could do. Walking with her down the hall, he looked over at her seeing her yawn. "Wonderful." He smirked, "And thank you." He said as he let a hand slip to the lower part of her back. "I only went to see some of them this morning, but even then, I knew that someone, someone I really trusted, probably already checked on them." He said with a wink. Looking at his watch, he glanced back at her. "What time was my first surgery?"

Derek smiled watching Gabby as she did the opening cut. He smiled as he stepped aside as he smirked. "I think I am going to stand here and let you do this." Derek told Gabby as he smiled at her. She needed to learn this and there was no other way but to let her operate on her own. Of course he'd assist when she needed help.

"In about thirty minutes." Emily handed him the file sipping the water. "Mr. Jones is ready for his, well." She pointed and smiled. "So, yea." Emily giggled lightly as she smiled at Mark.

As he stepped a little closer to her, Gabby's heart sped up a tiny bit faster. It wasn't nerves this time around, but more of the thrill that Derek was letting her go this on her own. Knowing that he would be here to assist her, if she needed it, Gabby proceeded with the surgery. Carefully going over each step in her head, Gabby did her absolute best when preforming this surgery. As the surgery went on, Gabby smirked a little when she heard Derek's soothing comments in her ear.

Mark nodded, "Excellent." He smirked as he walked to the closest vending machine, putting in a dollar and picking a Coke. Once the bottle dropped from the machine, Mark bent over, pulling out the Coke. He looked to Emily and winked before opening the bottle to take a quick swig of it. He started to head towards Mr. Jones's room, then looked to Emily once more. "Baby, will you be joining me for surgery today?" He asked softly, wanting to see if she was up for it or not.

Smiling as she went step by step of what he would’ve done. Derek smiled at his fiancée, “You’re doing amazing baby. You’re almost finished.” Derek whispered into her ear as he watched her doing this. He knew when it came time, she’d pass her boards with flying colors and that she’d do amazing in whatever she decided to go into it.

Walking with her boyfriend, Emily nodded her head. “Of course.” She told him smiling at him. Walking into the gentleman’s room, she stood with Mark listing to him talk. She heard the old man ask about how big his cock would grow. She nearly almost chocked as she tried to hide her laughter in. She saw Mark look at her. “I’m fine just got queasy.” She lied smiling at Mark.

She took one final deep breath in then out, finishing up the surgery. It was a rather long surgery, but for some reason Gabby didn't feel like she was there long. When she finished and Derek checked the patient to make sure that everything was good, she made her way out of the operating room to go scrub out. Feeling much success for doing her first major solo surgery with Derek Shepherd right beside her, Gabby felt all giddy inside, ready to have her own 30-Second Dance Party. However, she knew that she couldn't do that...at least not yet anyway. As she stood at the sink, she couldn't help but hum to herself; clearly showing how successful and happy she was at that given moment. This girl was literally on a happy high. Watching as Derek started making his way out of the OR, Gabby stopped humming, but didn't stop smiling.

Mark's eyes almost popped out of his head when he heard a little chuckle nearly come out of Emily. He just nodded, not saying a single word. Looking at the man, he tried his best to answer any last minute questions he had before they took him down to surgery. Once that was all said and done, and the patient felt confident and good about the surgery still, Mark nodded to the older man, giving him his charming Dr. Sloan smile. "I promise Mr. Jones after today, you will feel like a whole new man who can have any woman that his heart desires." He then excused himself out of the room, nodding for Emily to follow. When they got out of the room and away from the patient, Mark stopped for a moment to looked at her. He wasn't mad at her, he was just shocked by her reaction to the patient's question. The funniest thing was that he was rather amused by this. "Seriously?" He said.

Derek grinned, "When are you going to do your victory dance?" He smirked at his fiancee smiling at her. He couldn't wait to see her dance after doing her first solo surgery.

Emily frowned and looked at him, "I...I didn't mean too." Emily told him softly. She couldn't resit the small laugh that had came out when Mr. Jones had been talking. She took and shifted her weight a little bit and bit the inside of her jaw.
