Ideally, how long should a chapter on Mibba be?
The story I am currently focusing on does not really have chapters, so previously I tried breaking it up page by page, but that got to be a hassle when I forgot what page number I was on and sometimes I did not want to update all at once, so when a chapter ended mid sentence...bleh.

Currently I've broken it up into sections, but I wonder if they are too long? Too short?
What is a good was to break up the chapters?
What is an ideal length to keep things interesting?
    Is shorter better or longer?

    Thank you!

I honestly prefer to write shorter chapters. If chapters are more than 5000+ I can't read them lol. My attention span is horrible so I can't focus for that long. But anything less than that is ok. Personally If I write more than 1000 words, I feel like im dragging the story out.

I would say to keep them at least 500 words, at least, but no more than 5,000 as stated. Chapters typically are like a paragraph in how they're formed and are meant to convey something or a theme within it.

You have to think of it much like a video you would make for YouTube, which should be about 10 minutes, because of peoples attention-span.

personally, for mibba, i would say a maximum of 1,500 words per chapter. i find that if they're much longer, people don't tend to read and either lose interest or get distracted. in terms of breaking up your chapters, i would recommend reading over each section and making sure each part moves the story forward in some way, be it character development, plot, or building tension. I would also recommend the occasional cliffhanger if you really want to keep your readers hooked, but i would advise against using them too much.

for other sites (such as archive of our own), you have more wiggle room with the lengths of your chapters. in fact, most people there prefer reading longer chapters (minimum 1,000 words). i've seen 13,000 word chapters that have thousands of avid readers.

it also all boils down to how often you're going to be updating. if you post frequent updates, i think your chapters are okay being on the shorter side, but if you're only updating once a month, then longer updates might be best.

I agree with hangsang. I think for Mibba, 1500 words per chapter works okay.

When I used to have my writing up forever ago, I was new to writing and I had this inconsistent word count on my chapters. One chapter would be like 300, another 900, the next 500. But when I got in the groove of writing more words, my personal word count minimum per chapter was 1000 - 1500. I think the most I would do was a little over 2000 or close to that amount. But I agree that more than 5000, hell more than 3000, is a lot. At least, on Mibba.

Other sites are different like hangsang. mentioned. Archive of our Own and Tumblr, it is really common to have 1000 words be the minimum word count and they just are writing 6000 (sometimes more!) for chapters! I plan to get back into writing, although this time Ao3 and Tumblr will be my main platforms instead of Mibba ( :c ) but I'm personally am conflicted at how many words I want to write per chapter.

But I suppose it all just depends on how often one updates. I've had authors on here that update months apart, but I don't mind when their updates are like over 3000 words. But if you update frequently, I think 1000 words is fine.
