@ A Drop On the Window

Alyssa let out a soft sigh as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her parents were making her marry a man she had never met. Today she was to move in with him so they could get to know each other before they got married. Her parents made sure she looked nice for their first meeting. She was wearing a cute short dress. Her nerves were high as she slipped on her heels. She didn’t know this man at all and she was going to be living with him for the sake of her family. With another sigh, she walked downstairs where her bags were packed. She noticed a man standing in the living room. “Hello” she said softly. Her parents stood to the side watching to make sure everything with smoothly.

Derrick was a fairly wealthy older man, he made most of his money as a businessman. He had spent his entire youth building up his business interests and had never managed to make any of his personal relationships last. He had recently taken more of a sideline role in all his business operations, having the luxury now to be able to do so and still reap the rewards. So he had been looking to start a new relationship.

He had been contacted by Alyssa's parents, they were looking for someone to marry Alyssa and had heard of Derrick's desires to find a companion. He dressed up properly in a business suit with a tie, despite now preferring to wear more comfortable clothes. He got his driver to take him over to Alyssa's parents house. It had been decided that she would move in with him for awhile before they were to be wed, so they could get to know each other better.

He stood silently in the living room as Alyssa walked down the stairs. He knelt slightly as she approached "Princess Alyssa," he said lightly before standing back up. "It's nice to finally meet you, I'm Derrick," he greeted.

Alyssa felt her stomach go in knots as the man that was to be her husband finally turned around. She was a little surprised that he knelt in front of her. “It’s nice to meet you too” she said politely. She had to admit that he was a handsome older man but she had no idea what his character was like. He could have been an assholes. She had to put some trust in her parent’s decision. “Hope you had a good trip up here” she said softly, trying to make conversation as she played with the hem of her dress. This was going to be hard on her, having to leave her family right after she turned 18. The castle she grew up in was the only house she knew.

Derrick was nervous, he knew the press would go nuts when they learnt he was marrying someone so young, not to mention the attention the whole thing would garner due to who she actually was. He did want to keep it quiet for as long as he could, which was one of the conditions that had been discussed. At this point the story regarding his trip was simply that it was a business deal, and Alyssa was going to stay with a family friend. That way no scandal would ensue, especially if neither of them wanted to go through the relationship.

He smiled widely at Alyssa, "yes the drive was lovely, it is a beautiful countryside, but it pales in comparison to your own," he commented. He knew she would have difficulty moving away from home, away from the castle, but his own home was setup to have many of the same luxuries, and potentially even some more up to date ones. He had even gone so far as to clear out a separate room for her, and stock it with several outfits in her size, and stock his own kitchen with some of her favourite foods. He wanted her to be as comfortable as possible.

Alyssa smiled softly when he complimented her. “Thank you” she said softly. So far so good she thought to herself as her blue eyes looked him up and down. She had no idea what his expectations would be for her. Her parents raised her to be pure until marriage so she didn’t how that would work. Plus she heard men love sex. Hell thats why she was so sought after by other suitors but her parents wanted someone that wouldn’t take advantage of her. She was rare beauty that was born with her silver hair and she was still a virgin. Her eyes traced over his face and she was about to say something when her father spoke. “Alyssa, it’s time for you and Derrick to leave” he said. Alyssa felt her heart drop a little when she heard th words. She nodded in response. “Okay father” she said softly before making her way over to her parents, hugging them by as one of their servants grabbed her bags and took them out to the car. When she was done saying goodbye, she walked back over to Derrick. “I’m ready to go sir” she said softly, being polite to him. She tried to keep her emotions in check as she thought about leaving home to live with a stranger.

Derrick nodded lightly to her, "Call me Derrick, if you wish, whatever you're comfortable with," he told her. He turned to her parents, and bowed before thanking them. He turned and offered Alyssa his arm, leading her out to his waiting car, a lovely black Audi Limousine. He helped her into the back seat, just as the servants finished putting her things in the trunk. He smiled sweetly at her before climbing in the back taking a seat a little ways from her.

He poured himself a scotch, "would you like a drink Alyssa?" he asked her politely. He had come into this whole situation not expecting much from her, in fact he didn't expect anything from her until she herself was ready. He just wanted some company around his home, so it wouldn't feel so empty all the time. "Don't worry about missing you're parents, I've made sure you'll be able to video chat with whenever you want, and anything you desire can be acquired," he added. He was still finding it hard not to look away from her, her beauty was unbelievable.

Alyssa got into the car and sat down. “Thank you for helping me in” she said softly once he got inside the car. “Just a water. Thank you” she replied when he asked if she wanted a drink. She had drank alcohol before but it was either in the company of her parents or the company of her friends . “I appreciate that” she then said when he told her that she could video chat her parents anytime. Even tho she was a princess she wasn’t spoiled or entitled. She took a drink of water as she tried to relax, feeling the car move. Her eyes went around the car to avoid looking out the window. After a few moments, she looked at Derrick. “So what do you do for work?” She asked, trying to distract herself. Plus this man was going to be her husband so she atleast needed to get to know him.

Derrick smiled softly sitting back after pouring her a water. "I'm pretty much retired now, but I have a few business interests in various sectors, technology, clean energy, clothing" he explained politely. He had instructed his driver to take the fastest route back home. He paused, "What about you, what do you like to do?" he asked quietly. He had already anticipated that she would have vastly different interests to himself, and would let her do pretty much her own thing. He took out a box from one of the compartments, it was beautifully wrapped in blue paper, with a bow. He placed it beside her, inside the box was two things, a new phone that had contacts saved in it for all his phone numbers, his driver's number, and his assistant's number. The second thing in the box was a debit card, with her name on it. He sat back down.

Alyssa listened to Derrick as she relaxed against the seat. Her eyes traced over his features as he talked. “Sounds interesting” she said softly as she took another drink of her water. “I like to draw and paint. I also like to read. I’m pretty boring” she said with a soft laugh as she played with the hem of her dress, keeping her legs crossed. Her eyes followed him as he placed the box next to her. She picked up the box and opened it, looking inside in. “Thank you so much” she said with soft smile.

Derrick nodded lightly watching her closely, "I just thought you might want some freedom to do whatever you felt like, I don't want you thinking you have to spend all your time with me," he explained. He took another sip of his scotch sitting back. "My numbers are in the phone in case you ever need to get ahold of me whatever you're doing, so's my driver's and feel free to ask him to take you where ever you desire," he added. He looked up as he felt the car slowing down slightly, knowing that they couldn't possibly be near his place yet, he relaxed seeing it was merely traffic. He smiled across at her, "you like to draw? I would love to see some of your paintings, at some point," he said cheerfully.

Alyssa nodded, placing the box down. That was very sweet of him she thought to herself. “Alright. Thanks again” she said politely with a smile. She watched him as he looked out of the window. There was a part of her that still worried about what was going to happen. Sure he seemed sweet but it could be an act. Her thoughts were interrupted when she head him speak. “I’m not sure you do. They are not that good” she said with another soft laugh. She never thought her drawings and paintings were good but it didn’t stop her, she did it just for fun.

Derrick smiled softly, "I'm sure they're beautiful, but it's up to you," he commented. He felt silly, he was having difficulty speaking to her, he wasn't sure whether it was to do with her youth, or that he'd been alone for so long. He finished his drink, then paused looking at her, "would you like me to put some music on or something? maybe stop in the city to pick up anything?" he asked.

Alyssa smiled. “Alright” she said sweetly to him. She could see that he was trying to make her comfortable. It seemed that he wasn’t going to hurt her but she was still unsure. “If you would like to” she said answering his question. “I’m fine with music but I am also fine with talking since we are getting married in a few weeks” she added with a smile. She didn’t want him to think that she didn’t want to get to know him because that wasn’t true. Getting to know him would also put the part of her that doubted at ease.

Derrick nodded thankful that she was being so sweet. He looked at her again, "Okay, what do you want to know about me Alyssa?" he enquired. He put his glass down having finished his drink. He smiled sweetly at her, "what sort of books do you like reading?" he asked.

Alyssa thought for a moment. “Well what do you like to do in your free time?” She asked him before hearing his question. “Different kinds. My favorite book is pride and prejudice” she added. More questions went through her head, one that popped up was how the sleeping arrangements would be. She figured after they were married she would be sleeping with him. A blush appeared at that thought.

Derrick listened closely to her, "I travel a fair amount, go to charity functions that sort of thing, but when I get a moment to myself I either like to take a swim in my pool, or sit down and watch a game of Football," he replied. He smiled softly seeing her blush, it contrasted so well against her fair skin and silver hair. "What was the thought that just ran through your head, if you're comfortable sharing?" he asked.

Alyssa listened to him and blushed more when he asked what was going through her head. She wasn’t sure she should tell him but she figured the subject would come up sooner or later. “Well I was wondering about sleeping arrangements. I figured that after we were married we would sleep together” she said softly as she went back to playing with the hem of her dress. “So a few images went though my head” she admitted.

Derrick nodded, "ah I see," he noted. He moved closer to her, "I've set you up in your own room, and you are welcome to sleep there for as long as you want, however I do hope that when you are comfortable with it, that you would begin sharing my bed with me," he explained. He took her hand lightly, "but I understand it might take some time, so don't worry about it," he added.

Alyssa watched him as he moved closer. Her blush slowly went away as he spoke, listening to his words. “Alright” she said smiling softly as she looked into his eyes. She didn’t pull her hand away. It actually felt nice to have his hand in hers. This man was a stranger and she did have her doubts but so far he seemed really sweet. She hoped that this wasn’t an act.
