Hailey ran a hand through her hair as she looked in the small mirror she had in her locker. She gave herself one more look in the mirror before grabbing her things and shutting the locker behind her as she made her way over to Maddie, “Almost ready?”

George looked over at Jorel as they stood outside the car in the parking lot, “Same shit, different day, right?” He asked, watching as others walked past them, but not before taking a glance at the two as they stayed outside, “Don’t even need to be popular for everyone to be in our business.”

Maddie nodded. “Always.” She said as she walked with Hailey. “Are you coming to cheer tryouts with me today?” She asked her with a smile. Maddie had been doing cheerleading since she could walk and she was hoping to make captain this year.

Jorel laughed. “They’re just jealous of our great looks.” He said, finishing his cigarette. He sighed as he hoisted his bag onto his shoulder. “Where the fuck are the rest of the guys?” He asked. No sooner did he spoke did he see Jordon’s car pulling up beside his with Dylan and Danny inside of it. “Speak of the Devil.” He smirked.

“Of course,” Hailey said as they walked together. She knew Maddie was hoping on making captain and Hailey saw no reason she wouldn’t. Hailey was always there to support Maddie, “You’ve got it in the bag.” She added.

George shook his head, laughing slightly at Jorel’s comment as the rest of the guys showed up. “Perfect timing,” he said as he flicked his own cigarette away.

Maddie smiled. “I hope so too but just being a part of the squad again would be awesome.” She said. She had injured her ankle during the summer before junior year so she couldn’t do cheerleading last year but now she was feeling better than ever.

“What’s up bitches the party is here!” Jordon said as he got out of his car and flicked the ashes off his cigarette. Jorel rolled his eyes, “who lied to you?” He asked him with a chuckle. “Today is going to suck dick man, I can already tell.” Danny said.

“Everything is going to be fine,” Hailey had spent the time with the rest of the squad last year making sure Maddie was still involved. She was keeping her fingers crossed that everything was going accordingly and before they knew it things would be back to normal.

“He’s lying to himself, no one else would be so cruel,” George laughed. Looking at Danny, he nodded, “Just another day in hell with all of its monsters.”

Maddie smiled. “I’ll see you at third period okay?” She said. They didn’t have as many classes together this year but at least they had lunch together.

“The only good thing about today is the cheer skanks are having tryouts so you know they’ll be dressed in skimpy outfits.” Dylan smirked. “Hell yeah man, short skirts and all.” Jordon said. Jorel rolled his eyes, “like any of them would give you two perverts the time of day.” He laughed as the first warning bell went off.

Hailey nodded, “Yeah, see you then.” She walked to her first class and took her seat. She sighed softly, just ready to get through her classes.

George laughed, “They avoid all of us like we have the plague.” He shook his head, it was true that they were avoided by just about everyone. Hearing the second bell ring, he started walking, “Might as well get moving.”

Maddie walked into her first class and took her seat. She may be one of the popular girls but she was always sweet and friendly to any and everyone. It was a big pet peeve amongst her other friends but it was just how she was.

Jorel groaned as he started walking with the guys. He only had one or two classes with his friends and that’s what sucked the most. Luckily they all had lunch together so at least they could catch up then. He looked over at George. “See you at third period I guess.” He told him.

(I was thinking third period our girls and Jorel and George could have it together and it could be like a science class and our girls get paired with them for a project and that’s how they get to befriend them)

Hailey was happy that her first two classes went by fast and she was finally getting to her class with Maddie. Once they both got to the room, she went and sat down in her seat.

After his first two periods, George made his way to third period and went to his seat. Once the teacher came in, he rolled his eyes as he started talking about pairing up for projects.

Maddie was happy whenever the teacher said they were going to pair up. She planned on pairing with Hailey but then she frowned whenever he said they’d be pairing with non mutual which meant she and Hailey wouldn’t be working together.

Jorel looked at George. “Watch us get paired with popular kids.” He mumbled. They knew who the popular kids were so whenever the teacher said he was going to be paired with Hailey and George with Maddie, he groaned to himself.

Hearing her name paired with Jorel, Hailey was slightly surprised. She had never really talked to him before, but she wasn’t one to judge by what she heard. She wasn’t like some of the other popular girls, she liked to get to know people.

George sighed quietly as he rolled his eyes. Things would be so much easier if they had just let him and Jorel work together. “You had to say that, didn’t you?” He looked at Jorel.

Maddie was surprised when she heard she would be paired with George. She had heard about him and his friends and most of the school was afraid of them. She looked at Hailey, “this will be interesting.” She told her friend.

“Sorry dude. Guess we need to go get this done.” Jorel said and picked his things up and went to go sit by Hailey, while Maddie went to take his spot by George.

Hailey watched as Maddie got up and went to sit by George. She bit her lip softly as Jorel walked over and sat down next to her. “So, do you have any ideas for the project?” She asked quietly.

George sighed as Jorel walked away and Maddie sat next to him. He didn’t have any idea of what to say to her. Honestly, he didn’t have any ideas as to what they should do for a project either.

“Nope.” Jorel said. It was obvious he was annoyed by the fact he was working with Hailey but maybe there was hope after all. She was a straight A student so maybe Jorel could use that to his advantage.

Maddie sat down and looked at George. She knew about him but never talked to him before but that wouldn’t stop her from trying to be his friend. “Do you have any ideas for the project?” She asked as she pulled out her notebook and a pen to write down any ideas they had.

“Okay, I’ll just come up with an idea,” Hailey said softly. She figured things would be difficult with him. She sighed softly, “Don’t worry about anything, I’ll get it done.” She smiled lightly, trying to make the best of the situation.

George shook his head, “Not even one.” He sighed, he wasn’t thrilled about working with her, but he figured it’d be an easy A. “Sorry, I’m not the best with science,” he told her being honest.

Jorel smiled, “Thanks. I wish I could help but I’m terrible at science.” He said. It was the truth, he was horrible at science and just about every subject.

“It’s okay, I’ll take care of it.” Maddie said with a smile. “Don’t worry about it, I’ll make sure we both get a good grade.” She said.

Hailey nodded, smiling, “I’ll write out your part of the project so you won’t have to worry.” Thinking for a minute, she turned to look at him, “If you ever need help, after this, I’d be willing to help you.”

George was surprised that she was okay with doing most of the work. He hadn’t expected such a nice response from her. “Okay, thanks,” he said, unsure of anything else to say.

Jorel was surprised by how nice she was being. “Really? Um thanks...yeah if I need any help, I’ll let you know.” He said. He was surprised because he figured she’d be stuck up and bitchy like most of her friends.

“No problem and hey, if you ever need help with science or anything really, let me know. I don’t mind helping.” Maddie said. She thought for a moment before taking a piece of paper and writing her number down. “That’s my cell number, if you ever need help with homework or anything.”

Hailey nodded, “Its no problem really.” She could hear the surprise in his voice, “Let me guess, you thought I’d be like the other girls?” Shaking her head slightly, she laughed softly, “I can’t stand half of them, I don’t like being like them. Here’s my number if you need any help.” She grabbed her pen and wrote it down for him.

George took the number, “Uh thanks.” He was shocked that she seemed to be so nice. Maybe he needed to rethink his opinion of her, after all she didn’t seem like the others.
