Emily dragged a hairbrush through her hair as a piece of toast hung from her mouth. "Emily will you hurry on! you're going to be late!" her mother screamed at her from kitchen as she pulled a sweater over her 10 year old brother Daniel's head. the school bus was due to arrive in 5 minutes time and Emily wasn't even half ready. It was her first day of Junior year, and she had planned on getting up early and looking somewhat presentable, but as usual her lazy ass was running late. "The bus is there Em!" Emily picked up her bag as she hopped out the door and down the drive trying to pull on her shoes. She practically fell up the steps of the bus and gave Mr.McNulty a lopsided smile as both a thank you and apology for holding him up.

She made her way down the bus looking for an empty seat, preferably with friends- looking up as she heard someone call her name.

"She's an absolute state! such a Hot mess that one.." Simon scoffed in his south-irish lilt as he watched his neighbour clamber onto the bus. The perfectionist he was, meant he had been out on the curb and waiting as soon as it arrived. Simon was known as an over-achiever, with every detail of his life planned to the last. Even when he cuts loose- You can bet it was planned! He was really looking forward to senior year, but knew he still needed to keep his grades up as he planned to move away to college in Darthmouth next year.

Another first day, Abby was rushing to make herself look half way decent. Glancing out the window, she notIced the bus coming down the street. Abby got on the bus and quickly took an empty seat, sinking down in it she waited until the bus picked Emily up. Peaking her head over the seat, she watched as her friend ran late for the bus and just barely made it.

She could hear the Senior, Simon Delaney, talking about Emily, shaking her head she called out to her, “Emily, there’s a spot here.”

Jackson couldn’t help laughing as he listened to Simon, knowing full well that his friend couldn’t handle anything spontaneous. If it was possible, he knew Simon would plan his entire life down to the smallest detail. Part of him wished he could do the same thing, but Jackson couldn’t, he was too busy.

Between applying for college, filling out scholarships, and working Jackson was working hard to get out of their town. He wanted to make something of himself and he didn’t have time to get distracted.

Emily's face brightened as she bounded down the bus to Abby. ''Girl you'll never guess what! I managed to get us tickets for that new band jupiter calling tonight. I know it's last minute and a school night but you think you can work around your parents? it's like a super underground, intense gig! Mom thinks I'm doing the 12am mass for penance tonight, so I'm good til like 2am. Pleeeeaaassse tell me your gonna come??" Emily spewed like an excited 4 year old, she was even slightly out of breath, but the thought of the gig had her whole face lit up like a 100 watt bulb.

Finally getting her news off her chest, Em settled back in to her chair and could feel the gaze of Simon Delaney and his friends on her and Abby.

"Should someone tell her she has toast stuck in the back of her hair?" Simon muttered to other guys shaking his head with laughter. he glanced back up at the girls, trying to conceal his laugther. He had grown up next to Emily his whole life but never really been friends with her. He couldnt help but notice how cute her best friend was, in a real girl next door kind of way. to Simon, Abby always seemed so well put together, he could not understand how the two girls were friends. lowering his voice he motioned his friends in closer, "Yo, what Abby's deal? is she single?" he whispered, a boyish glint in his eye.

Si had no plans of getting a girlfriend, it would only tie him down. However it was in his plans to lose his virginity before heading to college- And she seemed like the perfect candidate. A Few dates, keep her sweet and bam- Simon could get all the practice between the sheets he wanted.

Abby laughed softly as she listened to Emily ramble about the tickets, “Of course I’ll go. It won’t be hard to convince mom, as far as she’s concerned I’d never lie.” She smiled, not even thinking about school, now that she knew about the gig they’d be going to.

She started thinking of what she could wear, not paying much attention to the rest of the people on the bus. It was still clear that nothing had changed over Summer, the former Juniors were still acting like the high and mighty now that they were Seniors.

Hearing Simon mention Abby, Jackson looked at him, “I doubt it, she doesn’t really talk to anyone besides Emily.” He knew what was going through Simon’s head, of course he understood where his friend was coming from. No guy wanted to go to college still a virgin, of course he had lost his virginity months ago.

Jackson had been in a short relationship that ended just a month or so before school started back up. He had thought about finding himself a casual fling, but it just seemed to risky.

"Why do they keep looking over here?" Emily huffed through gritted teeth. She usually wouldnt mind, but she had always been really protective of Abby and also, after a slight run-in with Simon at the start of summer break, she was sick of taking his shit. "Sorry Ab.." she murmered before hopping out of her seat and walking back the bus toward the group of seniors.

"What is your damage? all of you sitting here whispering amongst yourselves about everyone else like you run the place? Just because your seniors, doesnt mean you're better than everyone else!". Emily immedietely regretted her outburst, but insisted on standing her ground. Her and Abby were actually on the more popular end of their year, but emily had had enough of being trod upon by those more popular.

Simon nodded, rubbing the back of his neck as he thought, "Maybe I'll just have to change that..". he was so lost in his thoughts at how to approach Abby that he hadn noticed Emily get out of her seat until she begin shouting in his direction. He stared straight in her face as if bored- Although he had to admit he was surprised to see her stand up for herself.. and maybe he could use this later.

"I just noticed you have toast stuck in your hair, that was all". He smirked and crossed his arms as her face turned red. "Sorry if you thought it was anything more than that". he looked over to Abby and winked in her direction.

Emily opened her mouth to reply to the boys, however the bus had just pulled in by school. the jolting of the bus coming to a stop shifted her balance, causing her to fall on tothe ground between two of the other seats. To save herself the embarrasment she just stayed ther as everyone filed off the bus.

“Em, Dont...” Abby wasn’t quick enough as she tried to stop her friend. She knew that going back there wouldn’t solve anything. She cringed as the bus stopped and Emily fell, she tried to go back and get her friend, but everyone else had pushed her forward so she had no choice but to wait outside.

She stood on the sidewalk and watched as the rest of them got off the bus. She had noticed Simon wink, but that was just the way he acted so she shook her head, trying to forget it.

Jackson watched as Emily fell and Simon and the rest of the guys walked off the bus. Sighing, he helped Emily up, “Are you Alright?” He asked, looking her over and carefully taking the piece of toast out of her hair. He gave her a smile before walking off the bus.

Em took his hand allowing him to help her off the floor of the bus, the muscles in his arms were very defined as he pulled her up, and Emily couldnt help but notice. "Yeah I'm fine, it wouldn't have happened if it wasnt for you and your stupid friends..." she grumbled, dusting off her jeans before picking her backpack out of the seat Abby had been in. She looked to him once more before exiting the bus ad shook her head. "Look I'm sorry... Thanks for helping it's not ALL your fault, I should've stayed sitting". She could feel her cheeks burning red as she walked towards her friends.

Simon laughed out loud at Emily and swiftly exited the bus, spottiing Abby on his way out he walked over to her. "Hey, look I didn't plan to make either of you uncomfortable today, I'm sorry. You should tell Emily she needs to be more coolheaded like you. You're cool." he winked again and walked a few metres before taking his perch along with the other seniors on the front wall of the school.

Abby just shook her head at Simon’s comment, she just wanted to survive the day and go out with Emily that night. Seeing her friend walk over, she gave her a soft smile, “Let’s get inside before something else happens.” She said as they started walking into the school. “So, what are you going to wear tonight?” Abby asked, hoping to change the subject.

Jackson honestly felt bad, of course he hadn’t been the one that caused her to walk to the back of the bus. He watched as she walked off with Abby before going over to Simon and the others, “Can’t just leave well enough alone, huh?” He noticed that Simon had stopped and talked to Abby.

Emily linked her arm in Abby's and strolled happily in to the school building, happy to leave the boys behind her. "I want to dress sexy... Im thinking my leather skirt but i dont know what to put with it. How about you?" she asked her friend, trying to mentally picture how she would do her hair and makeup tonight. Emily wanted to grab some attention tonight.

Simon chuckled, "Relax bud, it's only a bit of fun. I've know Emily since kindergarten, she's well able to take a joke. I apologised to Abby too so everyones happy! Now chill and start enjoying Senior Year!" he pulled on a DArthmouth beanie over his curly mop, he wanted everyone to know what a success he was going to be. "So I was thinking, beers at my place tonight? Ma's out of town for the the night"

Abby smiled, “I was thinking the same, maybe the leather skirt with my black lace crop top?” She suggested, deciding that she wanted to have some fun and maybe catch a guy’s attention. She always enjoyed going out with Emily, and it would be a great way to relax after their first day back.

Jackson laughed softly, leave it to Simon to brush everything off. “Beers sound great,” he agreed with the rest of the guys. It was always a good way to blow off steam, especially since they wouldn’t have to worry about Simon’s mom.

Emily opened her new locker, and began piling the contents of her backpack into it. "Yes that would look perfect! I think you should try my orange mini dress, it would look so gorgeous with your dark hair, and your ass would look great in it" she teased, and gave Abby a rack on her back side with a folder before bursting into laughter. She was so glad to be back with Ab again, she had missed her while she was camp counselling.

Simon fist bumped his friends and looked all around the school campus. "Last year boys.. lets make it count". He leaned back against the wall, waiting to hear the first bell ring for homeroom.

Abby laughed softly hearing her mention the dress, “That sounds perfect.” She smiled as she put her things in her locker, “Tonight is going to be great.” Abby shut her locker and waited for Emily, happy that they had most of their classes together.

Hearing the last bell, Jackson sighed and followed the rest of the guys into the school. He made his way to his locker before heading to class, he had the day off from work since it was the first day of school.

“I missed you too, Em,” Abby said as she got her things for class. “I have Trig, but I’ll see you after, right?” She smiled before closing her locker and walking to her class.

Jackson took his things and went to his English class, he watched as Emily came in. The only seat left was next to him, he gave her a soft smile as she sat down.

Emily nodded happily "I'll see you at our normal table for lunch". With that she headed to class. Emily liked English, she loved all of the different worlds and characters it introduced her to, it was one of the few suggestions jets she actually enjoyed.

Spotting that the only seat left was next to Jackson, she took it quietly and gave him a sheepish smile. As class begun, Em took out her notebook but in a rush had forgotten her pencil case. "Hey.. Uh could I borrow a pen?" she whispered leaning g over to Jackson.

Simon kept his head down, watching the others file into class through his thick curls. Hey noticed a A by coming in and sat up a bit straighter, a welcoming smile falling g on to his face. The seats both in front and beside him were empty, and he nodded to them, beckoning Abby to sit with him.

As Abby walked into Trig, she let out a sigh seeing the only spots open were near Simon. She didn’t really have anything against him, besides they way he treat Emily sometimes. Walking over to him, she took the seat beside him, hoping she’d just get through class and not have to worry anything.

Jackson had already started taking notes when he heard Emily, reaching into his pocket he pulled out a pen, “Here ya go.” He told her as he handed it to her before going back to taking his notes.

Emily took she pen and began taking notes off the board, she couldn't focus properly, her head was stuck dreaming about tonight's gig. Without noticing, she had been tapping her foot against her desk along to the beat of one of the bands songs,, aimlessly sketching the lyrics in her notebook.

Simon spent most of the lads trying to grab Abby''s attention. He dropped his pen, tried to catch her eye but it wasn't working. Eventually he decided he'd just have to be less conspicuous.

Ripping a sheet out of his copy, he scribbled down: look I' m really sorry about this morning, let me make it up to you. The lads and I are having a small get together at mine tonight. Come along and bring Emily. Beer on me. He folded it in half and tossed it on to her desk. He was indeed being very spontaneous today.
