Land of The Dead

Ada finished cutting up the vegetables and started to gather them all into a part, putting them in a broth and adding some beef chinks into the mix before putting it over the fire and waiting for it to boil. Once it did, she put a top over it. She threw her apron off and then served herself and her family dinner before bringing up to her parents that she was going to move in with Augustus. She sighed seeing her mom crying and then her dad just sighed and asked if she were sure. She nodded knowing that it was necessary. She would tell him tomorrow if she saw him. She soon headed to bed.

Ada woke in the morning and stood up washing herself before looking at her dresses trying to decide which one she wanted to wear that day. She wished she could be a man and wear pants instead of worrying if her skirts were down properly or if her corset was tight enough.

Augustus having gotten word out to the people to report to him if anything suspicious happened, and having warned the vampires what would happen if they broke the rules; had decided to spend most of the next day at home. He tidied the place, cleaned the windows so some natural light would filter through, and made it nicer, just incase Ada wanted to move in.

In the early afternoon, he decided to go into town, but didn't want to be laden down with everything. Instead he dressed in pants, a shirt and coat only. He made his way towards the field where Ada had been attacked. He found her basket, and decide to take it back to her.

Ada put her hair up into a bun at the top of her head before arranging her hair to where it framed her heart shaped face. Soon, she got dressed and headed out into the town to go and help her father. Soon, she was helping customers with finding things and smiled at a child laughing and smiled before giving him a free lollipop waiting until they were gone to sigh and laugh to herself.

She headed back to the front of the store and started to dust humming softly as she did so. She looked up when someone entered the shop. She was surprised to see Augustus. "Mr. Redfang." She murmured before curtseying. She clasped her hands together before asking, "Can we help you?" She offered pushing a stray piece of hair away from her face.

Augustus had made his way to the store, basket in hand. He bowed back at her, "I just wanted to bring this back to you, you dropped it," he said softly. He walked into the store looking around, "how has business been for your father?" he asked. He felt odd, not bringing up the question on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't want to bring it up if she didn't.

He was much more casually dressed, and appeared more relaxed.

Ada took the basket gently and nodded, "Thank you." She told him knowing she would be going out later to get more flowers and hopefully this time not be almost killed in the process. She sat down on a stool and replied, "It's been good. It flourishes sometimes, but recently we've been having issues since the situation in the village has gotten worse." She told him.

She then cleared her throat before murmuring, "I've decided to move in...simply because otherwise we will both be receiving complaints from the council and they will blame my father." She murmured looking up to meet his gaze before looking away.

Augustus smiled gently, "well I hope it improves for him," he said softly. He looked at her, surprised she'd decided to move in, "If you are certain you are comfortable I would very much like that," he said softly. He pulled her to one side, "would you want me to stay in the main manor at first?" he asked softly. His offer was still there, he was happy to give her space.

Ada nodded and said, "I do as well." She sighed and then saw the surprise on his face and wanted to smile, but she was frightened to continue and didn't know where her burst of courage had come from. She then said, "Well, I would be more comfortable if I had my own space." She agreed and bit down on her lip again and ran a hand over her hair to make sure it was okay before glancing back at him having felt him take her to the side. His touch had left tingles across her skin and wondered if he had felt the same effect as she had.

Augustus nodded, "of course, I can make sure you have your own space," he promised. He stepped back, the sensation of touching her bear skin, and her scent hitting him, stunned him for a moment. "Thank you for being willing to give it a try," he said softly. He looked into her eyes, "I'll show you the place when you're ready to actually move, I'm sure you'll like the place," he said softly.

Ada nodded and said, "I'm glad." She told him and was a little glad that he had stepped back. She still thought he was cruel and was aware all too well of how easily he could kill her. She gave a nod and then murmured, "I need a couple of days to get my things together. Though, I'm not sure how I will get them to your house." She told him biting down on her lip again. She wondered if she even needed to bring anything. She knew she preferred her dresses over fancy ones.

Augustus nodded lightly, "Fair enough, once you're ready let me know I'll organise moving your things," he said lightly. He watched her closely, as she bit her lip again, he smiled weakly, "You look beautiful today by the way," he stated. He bowed slightly, "Unless you want to continue talking I'll leave you to it," he said

Ada gave him a nod and said, "Alright." She was surprised by his words and pushed a stray hair away from her face before mumbling, "Thank you." She stood up and murmured, "Well, I don't see why not. No one is in here at the moment." She pointed out, leaning against the counter for support as she fumbled with something in her hands.

Augustus smiled lightly nodding. He was glad she was not in a hurry, he watched her closely. "You father mentioned you wanted children," he said softly. He was curious to know what she was like, her interests.

Ada sat back down offering him a chair, knowing her legs would get stiff if she didn't. She looked up mouth almost agape as she heard his words before saying, "He talks too much." She smiled softly looking at her hands. "Yes, in the future, I would want children. I normally take care of the neighbor's two children before I had to help papa." She replied wondering why he was so attracted to her. There were plenty of other prettier women than her.

Augustus took the chair and sat down, thanking her. "I'm sorry if you didn't want me to know that," he said softly. He looked across at her, "I think it's admirable to want to have children, there are other options to raise children though," he said softly. He took a deep breath, savouring the smell of her, that hung in the air.

Ada shook her head and said, "I don't mind that anyone knows, I mind that he talks too much." She mused before looking back up at him and sighed nodding in agreement. "I'm aware, I just. I'm not sure. The thought of having my own child makes me think I'd have a closer bond with them." She said.

She looked out the window for a moment before looking back. Suddenly, she heard the pitter patter of rain, and gave a small smile before gasping softly hearing thunder crash outside and the flash of lightning. The sudden burst of air cause the candles to go out. She sighed standing up and beginning to light all of the candles once more not liking the darkness too much.

Augustus nodded listening to her, understanding her. Many companions he'd met over the years felt similar regrets. He smiled softly, "That sounds lovely," he said.

He looked up hearing the crash of thunder, and noticed the candles snuff out. "This weather isn't very good," he stated. He rose from his chair and helped light the candles carefully.

Ada nodded and said, "I mean, I obviously would adopt a child because they deserve a home, but a lot of people, like me, would want a baby over a child almost grown." She admitted and sighed.

She nodded in agreement. "No, it isn't. Well, I think I won't be going home for some time." She stated looking out the window again seeing it pouring like cats and dogs. "I don't think many people will be out in this weather, either." She was upset that her dress was going to get wet and possibly muddy from walking on the path.

Augustus nodded, "I understand that, it's a woman's nature to want to birth a child herself," he said softly. He wondered whether there was a way that she could still do that if she became his companion.

He looked out the window into the now dark street, "Yes only people up to no good would go out in weather like this," he commented. He paused for a moment after lighting the last candle, "Do you want to talk about what happened when you go attacked?" he asked.

Ada gave a nod before saying, "Some women don't want to, but I guess it all depends on the person." She replied and ran a hand over her hair before sighing and untying her hair before shaking it out letting the waves fall over her shoulders and down her back.

She sighed softly and murmured, "I suppose so. Or children looking to play in puddles." She pointed out, sitting back down on her stool, and crossing her legs hoping to get more comfortable if she did so. She looked up and said, "No." She shook her head. "Why?" She questioned, unable to contain her curious nature.

Augustus nodded watching her closely, the way her hair fell onto her shoulders was very beautiful. He was finding it difficult not to stare at her constantly when in her presence. He looked down at the ground.

"I know that it frightened you, and I wanted to explain what happened from my perspective, if you'll indulge me," he said lightly. He wanted her to understand why he killed the vampire.
