Carly had been spending later and later at the office every night, living o caffeine and take out. She knew her internship was going to be up for review in a few months and she needed to impress if she wanted to be made a full time editor. She had been so busy, she hadn't even noticed Benjamin's letter sitting on her desk in work for a number of days.

"Is there a reason you aren't opening that letter?" A co-worker asked one morning as Carly stared at her mildly dazed before her attention tion flew to the package. She picked it up gripping it tightly to her chest. "It has important results in it... I'm waiting for the right time" she lied quickly before she shoved it in to her handbag to be devoured later on.

After reading the letter she couldn't wipe the smile of her face, and tucked the excerpt in to her bedside locker for later on. She was happy to read he was making some progress, and even happier to see him sign off as Benji- she didn't even realise he had picked up on her little name for him, and she hoped he didn't mind.

    My Benji,

I hope you don't mind being called that... It was a silly pet name I had for you when we first started writing... I don't know how it slipped out. It must have seemed terribly unprofessional at the time. Although I must admit, I always found it difficult to remain composed around you... And I still do.

Perhaps I should let you alone for a while, to write in peace? As much as I adore hearing from you, I certainly do not wish to corrupt your progress.

Please do not remain with MacMillan if just for me... If you feel somebody else better represents your brand I do suggest branching out- both Karen and MacMillan will survive without.

I have not yet read the excerpt you sent, but I can assure you it will be put in to good use once I go to bed tonight. I must ask... Do you prefer Red or Black lace? Or perhaps something else? I long to leave you speechless the next time we meet.

    Your Carly x

Benjamin had been working away. He had been expecting a letter back reasonably quick. He grew worried as several days went by, without a response. It was a blessing in disguise, as it allowed him to get a lot more work completed.
When he finally recieved her response, he left it a couple days, not wanting to be distracted as he worked to complete a chapter. Once he finished the chapter, he took a break, to fulfil his obsession.

    My Carly,

It's cute, I don't mind being called that, by you. I like that I make it hard for you to stay composed, Because whenever you are around, I find it hard to not rip your clothes off.

Please, keep writing me back, I find these letters a welcome break from the boredom of life without you. I have been making progress, I finished another chapter.

I'm staying with MacMillian, because you did so well with my last novel. I am hoping the same success will come with the new book.

I do so hope that you enjoyed the excerpt, in private. ;). With you, I must say I prefer nothing, but if I must choose, black lace would look exquisite.

    Thinking of you, Benji xox

Carly had read his excerpt and enjoyed it thouroughly, she liked the detail and the personal quirks he added to it, she truly felt this was such a special thing just for her Everytime she read one of them.

    Sweet Benji,

I thought this letter would never arrive. It has been a hellish week at work. An author has pulled out of their deal a week from the print deadline - I am being sent to Edinburgh on Friday to meet with them and try to talk them back in to the deal. MacMillan seem to be mistaken in thinking I have a way of stroking Author's egos. I couldn't possibly explain I only like stroking yours ;).

So I must apologise in advance if my next letter is delayed in reaching you, I'm unsure how long I will be out of town for. I hope the little Polaroid I have attached may prove a nice distraction until you hear from me again.

Tonight is game night, I am dreadfully excited to tell people about you. I do so wish you could be here.

    Yours always,
    Carly xo

Carly made sure to spray this one with a good amount of her perfume before sending it off and getting ready for her trip away.

Benjamin had been getting out of the house more, than he used to. He would go on walks every couple days, just thinking about her. He was pleased to see her response letter on his doorstep when he came back one afternoon. He smiled when he could smell her scent on it.

When the polaroid slipped out of the letter, he caught it, and found himself sitting staring it over for awhile before reading the letter. He laughed gently to himself before responding.

    My Beautiful Carly,

I'm sorry to hear, work has been rough. I'm sure you'll do fine convincing him. Also I know there is at least one other thing you like to stroke ;).

I still find it so hard to express in words, how much these little gifts of yours mean. Please know the last one, will indeed be an adequate distraction, it shows off just how sexy you are.

I hope game night was fun, telling all your friends about our sexual escapades. How horny we make each other.

This week for me has been dull, I'm simply writing away, taking a few breaks when thoughts of you take over. Please let me know when you get back in town. I have been getting more of the book done, and I'd love some feedback on it.

    Cheerishing my thoughts of you,
    Benji xoxo

Carly had found herself feeling rather down since she received Ben's last letter. When she went to game night with her friends, she had been excited to tell them all about her new romance... But she found herself stumbling over her own words as she tried to talk about him. She was mildly afraid of their judgement. Was it wrong she was sleeping with a client of her workplace? Was the age Gap too much? Would they think she was just blinded by his fame? She had found herself making up a story about her new guy, and she knew her friends didn't fully but it. Carly herself had been wrecked with guilt ever since, she hated the thought of Benjamin thinking she could feel this way about their relationship.

All the same, she felt happy to come home and see his envelope sitting in her mailbox. She headed upstairs and ordered a Chinese, pouring herself a drink before she sat down, crossing her legs beneath him as she began reading. That sense of guilt took over again once she finished- it was clear she was all he thought about, she hated how distracted her thoughts were by other things. What of she was just too immature for him? Maybe she wasn't ready to commit to something so serious.

She took a large swig of her drink before pulling out her pen and paper and beginning to scribe.

    Ben,

Work has gotten some bit better. I managed to get the author back on bored to publish this book- but I doubt he will publish with us again. Either way Karen owes me massively and I hope to bank on that.

I'm glad you enjoyed your gift Benji, I hope it will work well for you while I'm not around. I do miss you so, greatly this week it seems.

I would be more than happy to give you some more feedback on the book, I've really enjoyed everything so far. Alas, I don't think I have ever not enjoyed a single piece of writing by you. You stun me every day.

    Yours, Carly x

Carly knew her letter was short, but she didn't know what else to write. Her mind was spiralling, but she didn't want to share that with him. Not quite yet,and certainly not written on paper. She hoped these feelings were just a mild hiccup.

Benjamin had managed to bury himself into his work, it was several weeks before he took a break long enough to check the mail that had been piling up. He smiled gently seeing the envelope marked up so clearly by Carly. He opened it to read. It had been ages since they'd seen each other or even spoken on the phone at this point.

He paused for a moment considering what he wanted to write back.

    Carly,

I'm glad work has improved for you. My apologies for not being as prompt with my response as usual, I disappeared down the rabbit hole, so to speak.

The good news about that, is that I have completed my first draft of my new book. It clearly is rough, as I glanced over it, there were several spelling or grammar mistakes, regardless, I want to entrust the first read of it to you.

I know you mentioned that you've enjoyed every piece of writing of mine, but I trust that you'll tell me if it's bad.

I was hoping that sometime during the next month you'd be free for me to visit, I'll bring the draft with me. If not, perhaps I can courier it your workplace.

    Wanting to hold you,
    Ben.

He looked over the letter, it clearly wasn't as eloquent as his usual stuff, but he sealed the envelope and sent it away regardless.

Following up from her nervous feeling while writing her last letter, the length of time that had passed since she last heard from Benjamin had Carly reeling. She had tried to call once or twice but his mobile was going staright to voicemail. After three weekend had passed she simply grew worried, but she didn't want to just simply turn up on his doorstep again. Maybe he had simply grown tired of her- a thought which upset Carly greatly but she could understand.

He was a world renowned author, and a most intelligent man; it made sense that he would tire from her. She was just beginning to wrap her head around these feelings when she arrived home after a night out with her friends to a letter from him. A wave of relief washed over as she ripped in to the letter but this was quickly replaced by anger.

If this were any regular she would be totally pissed if her partner disappeared for a few hours without any communication- he had gone almost 2 months without taking the time for her. With a drunken hiccup she picked up her phone, dialling his number hoping that he had switched his mobile back on.

Benjamin had spent some time since finishing the book, tidying his place up again. He had also cleaned himself up, shaving and the like. He couldn't remember what was in the letter he sent Carly, and was a little worried it hadn't been his usual quality.

He heard his cell phone ring, and dread over came him. Only one person had his number. He picked it up after the second ring, "Carly, my beautiful flower, let me explain," he said softly.

Carly heard the dial tone pick up, her breath catching in her throat momentarily- she hadn't really been expecting him to pick up so fast.. or at all. It was almost 2am after all. She felt her stomach pang with a sense of want at the sound of his voice but she was. Still conflicted with her feelings of anger. "Explain what Benjamin?" She asked, her voice flat. He already seemed to know he had done wrong.

Benjamin was mad at himself, and could sense her anger. She was usually so much more cheerful when around him. He sighed softly, "Disappearing, for a couple months," he said softly. He was sitting on his couch, thinking, "It uh, happens sometimes when I'm writing, I got lost in the book," he said softly.

"Honestly, I'm sorry I didn't call or write sooner, but my whole days consisted of writing," he said softly.

Carly sighed loudly, sitting down on the edge of her sofa as she ran a hand through her hair. "If you knew I'd be pissed why didn't you do something about in Ben? I was worried." Carly snapped, her jaw clenching as she clutched her phone tightly.

"It would have taken you utwo seconds to send me a text Benjamin. You can't do that to me- it isn't fair" she said, the hurt and upset clearly registering in her voice.

Benjamin sighed softly, "I can't explain Carly, I really can't, I just hope you can forgive me," he said softly. He sat back, "I've decided to take some time off from writing for a couple months, so you can have more of my attention," he said softly.

He looked at his completed draft on the desk, and hoped she would like it.

Carly took in a deep breath, her nails diggin' in to her palm as she bit back tears. She hated how sensitive she could be sometimes. She let out a little hiccup before sinking back further in to the sofa. "You don't get it..." She said with a sad laugh, shaking her head. "this isn't about wanting more of your attention Benjamin. I don't mind if you need to take time away to write.. it's your job. But you need to let me know if it's going to happen because I was worried sick about you- and then you never answered your phone and I was worried that you had just gotten tired of me and didn't want anything to do with me anymore" she Said, her words getting faster and more high pitched as she spoke, tears beginning to fall down her face.

"Just don't do it again. Please" she said gently.

Benjamin nodded, hearing her point, "Okay, I promise it won't happen again, and I'm sorry," he said softly. He looked at he draft on his desk. "I want to come up and see you, make it up to you," he said lightly.

He had been missing his Carly. He closed his eyes, hoping she'd be excited.

Carly wiped the tears from her cheeks, letting the silence take over their conversation for a moment. "I'd like that... I can free up some time next week. Is that too soon?" She asked him gently, twirling her hair on her finger she was looking forward to seeing him.

Benjamin grinned when she said next week. "That sounds perfect my love, I can't wait to see you, and I promise I'll make it up to you," he said through the phone. He relaxed slightly, "I'll let you know what time I'll be coming in," he said.

Benjamin nodded softly to himself, "that sounds wonderful, go get some sleep, when I'm visiting my bet is there won't be much sleeping happening," he teased. He sat back, "sweet dreams my love," he said softly, before hanging up.
