It took everything in Alexandria not to race after Dominic as he walked out of the room. Now that this was the beginning of the end. She was hoping she could finally reach out to him again. To have a discussion with Dominic without being lashed at. While she knew why she couldn't approach Dominic during these last few days, she was curious as to why he didn't come to her... It was such a minor issue but still one that came to mind. But what she really wanted was to be on good terms again. She wanted to get Dominic to calm down and take care of himself.

Even with that at the forefront of her mind, Alexandria waited until the command was completed and both men were pulled away to jail. With a deep breath, Alexandria made her way out of the dining room and into the hall. Though once she had done so, Alexandria had no idea where to go. So she asked her wolf bodyguard to lead her to Dominic, which he did. Soon she was at the edge of the garden.

After a deep breath, Alexandria kindly asked her wolf guard to follow at a distance before she made her way into the gardens. Perhaps she would have been smarter to wait until some time had passed but she had already been itching to speak to him for days. All she could hooe was that he heard her coming and calmed down enough to speak.

Once Aiden was in view, Alexandria slowed down her pace, hoping that Dominic would hear her. "Can we talk? Alexandria asked, her voice gentle. "If not. I can leave,"

Dominic sat in front of one of the many fountains in the garden, his shoulders sagged as he stared at the water as it ran through the system. He was exhausted, at an odd crossroads in his life. He knew that he was going to be leaving Alexandria's kingdom in a matter of days, as soon as the guilty were brought to justice. There was a kingdom that he would have to return to and to rule, without Alexandria by his side.

As far as he was concerned, there was no way that Alexandria would want to return with him and he wasn't about to force her to. Her life was her own and Dominic accepted that even if it would weigh heavy on his heart to not have his mate by his side. As long as she was safe, that was all that really mattered.

Dominic's eyes drifted to the direction that Alexandria was coming from and he tilted his head in that direction, enough that he could hear her every movement. He gave a stiff nod of his head when she asked if they could talk. Dominic had so many things he wanted to say but he didn't think any of those things could truly change anything and he didn't want to be the reason that Alexandria felt obligated to return. No, that decision had to be all on her.

"As soon as this whole mess is said and done, we will leave. I don't want to cause more issue here," Dominic's voice came out with little control of his tone. He was sure that Alexandria could tell just how exhausted she was. Biting down on the inside of his lip, he glanced toward her. There were so many things he wanted to ask her but now didn't seem like the right time. "I will keep my promise to you. There will be no war between our kingdoms, for as long as I live. I won't allow it."

Alexandria let out a small sigh as Dominic started to speak. None of this was what she wanted to talk about right now, or even hear for that matter. He was too wrapped up in this anxious mess that he was building from himself. And Alexandria quickly came to the conclusion that she didn't really care about any of the shit she was going to bring up either. She was just using it as an excuse to finally pluck up the courage to see Dominic... Of course, this was all something they needed to discuss but she couldn't really give a single shit at the moment. Alexandria was exhausted, worried and just wanted to see Dominic. That was what really mattered right now to her.

"Can you just shut up." Alexandria asked him. There was no anger in her voice, only showing how tired she was. She just wanted Dominic to stop letting his mind race for a little bit. Though once those words were out, Alexandria made her way over to Dominic. When she was right in front of him, the young woman hesitated for a moment. But she pushed away any doubts she had and climbed right into Dominic's lap.

With grace, she sat down and her legs slid down along the part of the bench he was not occupying. The rest of her body turned into Dominic. She leaned into him, her chest pressing against his. Her arms loosely wrapped around Dominic's neck and her head laid onto his shoulder, almost pressing into the crook of his neck. If he had been anyone else, Alexandria would have been a lot more worried to do this after a multiple-day fight. But she felt safe in the fact that it was Dominic and she could only hope he was calm (or tired) enough not to want to be all 'I told you so' or snapping about this and that.

"I've been wanting to do this for days," Alexandria whispered to him.

Dominic jolted when Alexandria told him to shut up. He looked up to her sharply, his eyes widening slightly as he looked her over. He noticed just how exhausted she looked. It seemed like the last few days had been no better to her and it made his heartbreak. He wished that he could say something to make all of this better for her but Dominic was at a loss for words. He knew what his wolf wanted but he knew that he couldn't just try and force Alexandria's hand in either direction.

Before Dominic could really comprehend what was going on, Alexandria had climbed into his lap. His arms slid around her waist as if on instinct alone, tightening around her waist to keep her cemented in place. Burying his face in her neck, Dominic took a moment just to enjoy what was happening. He couldn't help but let a small smile break out on his features before it dropped. This would be the last time he held her, he needed to cherish it while he still could.

"For what it's worth," Dominic paused long enough to take a deep breathe. "I'm sorry. I wish this had all turned out diferently..." he trailed off, shrugging. He was so cemented in the fact that he would be leaving without Alexandria that he couldn't think of anything else. "You can always contact me if you need anything," he murmured softly and he meant it. It wouldn't matter whoever his significant other ended up being, they would have to be okay with Dominic's loyalty to Alexandria.

As she felt Dominic bury his face into her neck, Alexandria reached up and slowly ran her fingers through his hair. She allowed her nails to lightly run along his scalp as well. The truth was, she was glad that Dominic was quick to react and grab onto her. It would have been too awkward to bear if Dominic tried to push her away or did nothing. Especially if he was still furious about everything. But he accepted her rather quickly and Alexandria was able to relax with him. Her eyes closed as she let out a little sigh of relief.

Though as Dominic started to talk about the future, Alexandria shook her head a bit. "There is a lot that I wish was different but lets not talk about that right now." She whispered softly to Dominic. It was clear to her that there were things that were weighing on the wolf's mind. Alexandria could only guess what they were, but she was sure there was one item in particular she would guess correctly. It seemed Dominic thought he already knew what she would do, stay home with her family and have him leave without her.

But the last several days just cemented to Alexandria how much she wanted Dominic around. She had been upset with their distance, had wanted to talk to him and sleeping was an impossible feat without him. Part of her was definitely leaning towards leaving with him. Alexandria knew she would feel better having Dominic around. Not only would she feel safe but she would actually be able to sleep. But it was more than that. Although it wasn't a lot, Alexandria genuinely liked who Dominic was when they were getting along. Alexandria did want to try to be his mate for Dominic's sake but also, she felt drawn to him. At this point, Alexandria knew she had a little crush on him despite all of the fighting but she wondered if they could really work. They were so different. And how they fought drove her crazy. Even so, she wanted to try but it felt difficult to tell Dominic that. He already had a bond to her. What if she couldn't handle it and had to pull away? It felt cruel to even open that possibility when Dominic seemed okay with letting her go despite what he wanted.

It seemed better to think about this and maybe talk about it with Dominic after they both managed to get the rest she was sure they were both craving. Her arms tightened around him before lightly tugging on his shirt. "Can you please come sleep with me." Alexandria whispered to him.

Dominic let out a content groan when Alexandria began to play with his hair and scrap her nails against his scalp. He pressed harder into her touch, his eyes fluttering shut as he tried to simply enjoy Alexandria's company. He was sure this would be one of the last times he would ever get to hold her so intimately. He may see her in the future but it would be different then. She would have a husband that wasn't him... children, and he would likely have the same. The thought was enough to make his heartbreak but he knew he could never bring himself to do something that would make her unhappy for the rest of her life.

He melted into her arms, allowing his body to relax for the first time in days. Dominic had known he was exhausted before but he hadn't truly felt it into now because he was able to let some of his guard down. He didn't have to be so worried that something would happen to Alexandria because they had found the guilty and they would be punished appropriately. It wasn't until Alexandria spoke that he was brought back down to reality, his body tensing slightly. No, that was a horrible idea. But he was so exhausted and he could tell Alexandria was in the same position. If this was one of the last times he would ever get to hold her, was it such a horrible idea for him to indulge them both?

"Okay," Dominic murmured softly. It was an awful idea, he knew that. He could practically hear her parents yelling at them because it was wrong, it was against their customs. And yet he didn't care at all. He needed this just as much as Alexandria did. His mate's needs were far more important than anyone else's opinions. It would always be that way.

Standing, Dominic held Alexandria to his chest as he headed into the home. He didn't stop for anyone, not caring whether people saw or what they had to say in the moment. All he cared about was making sure that Alexandria's needs were met. Once they were in her room, Dominic kicked the door shut behind them. He was careful to lock the door, not wanting any disturbances while they rested. He paused as he set her down, raising an eyebrow. "Do you need to get changed first?" He asked, his hands still resting on her hips. While he had her, Dominic would not let go of her.

Once Dominic lifted her up, Alexandria's grip on him tightened a little and her face buried into his neck. She knew that others would see them, but Alexandria didn't care. The woman could even hear the beginning of the fight her parents would start but she would be able to shut that down rather quickly this time around. Whatever they said on this, mattered little to Alexandria who was exhausted and desperate for a peaceful sleep that only Dominic could provide.

When he set her down on the bed, her arms slowly slid until they were only laying on his shoulders. Alexandria looked up at him gently, thinking that she liked the way he held onto her, how his hands still rested against her hips. Though she gave Dominic a little nod before sliding away. "Just a moment." She said softly before grabbing some pajamas and heading into the bathroom. She came out a few minutes later, now wearing something more comfortable than one of her dresses.

As she headed over to him, Alexandria stopped at the nightstand and took the pill bottle on top of it. She opened the drawer and dropped it inside before closing it. The sleeping pills had been no used and the truth was, Alexandria didn't even want to look at them. With that done, she turned back to Dominic, headed over to him and immediately climbed on top of him and buried her face into his chest. Alexandria was much too tired to care about what was appropriate or proper. Or to even care much about coming off too strong or need. She knew what they both wanted, what they both needed to sleep well and neither of them have had it for fucking days. Fuck, Dominic had even slept outside of her room for days, there was no doubt in her mind that Dominic needed this too.

Once she was finally resting against him, Alexandria started to relax and she let out a content sigh. Her fingers moved back up and lightly ran through Dominic's hair. "Thank you," Alexandria whispered to him as she closed her eyes.

Dominic was reluctant to even see her disappear into the bathroom. He took an uneasy step forward, not liking that there was so much space between them. He knew that he had to respect that she wanted to change but all Dominic wanted was to hold her in his arms. He huffed, hanging his head for a moment. He rubbed his face with his hands, letting out a frustrated sigh before he moved over toward the bed. Dominic toed off his shoes, leaving them by the bed before he shed his shirt. Dominic considered taking his pants off to sleep in his boxers but he thought it might risk making her uncomfortable. That wasn't what he wanted at all.

Climbing into the bed, Dominic tried to settle down as much as he could. Anxiously waiting, Dominic only appeared to fully relax when Alexandria reappeared. He breathed a small sigh of relief as he rubbed at his cheek, glancing toward her with a tired smile. He saw no point in pretending that he was okay because right now, he wasn't. He knew it, she knew it. Hiding it would only make it more difficult for the two of them.

When Alexandria was settled against him, Dominic had to admit he was surprised by how close she had gotten to him. He had expected her to lay beside him and maybe she would even want to cuddle with him but when she settled on top of him like that was exactly where she belonged... Dominic's heart swelled and for a moment, he allowed himself to have hope before he pushed the thought away. He was so convinced that there was no way that Alexandria would want more that he wasn't going to let himself even consider it at a possibility.

Dominic's hand settled on her hips and he held her close, wishing that this could be them every night for the rest of their lives. "You never have to thank me," he murmured, burying his face into her hair. "Never. I mean it," he added, his voice so low that it could hardly even be considered a whisper.

"I wanted to thank you," Alexandria whispered softly, her lips brushing against his bare chest lightly as she did so. "You deserve a lot more than a thank you...I am appreciative of everything that you do for me. I know it is not always easy, I know I don't always make it easy. But thank you, Dominic." Her fingers lightly brushed against his head, still playing with his head a bit.

With a little sigh, Alexandria slowly turned her head so her cheek was pressed against his chest instead of having herself completely buried into him. She could feel his face against her hair and her head, causing her to smile lightly. And now that her ear was pressed against his chest, Alexandria could also hear his heartbeat. This was exactly what she wanted. Though as much as having Dominic close again made her feel safer and calmer, her heart fluttered a bit at how close he was. But she couldn't let herself focus on that. She did need to sleep. They both needed to sleep.

Once hand slowly slid out of his hair and Alexandria grabbed onto the edge of one of her blankets. Although Dominic was quite warm, she still enjoyed the feeling of the blanket on top of her. So she pulled a lighter blanket over the both of them before letting her body completely settle into him. Her free hand now moving to his side, her fingers slowly brushing up and down along his skin there. She hoped he was finding this as calming as she was.

"Promise you'll be here when I wake up," Alexandria mumbled tiredly. She could feel herself drifting off but wanted to be reassured that Dominic wouldn't sneak out.

"For as long as you'll have me," Dominic whispered, so quietly that he wasn't even sure that Alexandria would hear him. Even if she did, he wasn't sure that she would be able to see the hidden meaning behind them. That he would always be there for her. It wouldn't matter, even if they were separated by thousands of miles and years of time between them. Dominic had forced himself to come to terms with eventually having to let Alexandria go but he knew that even in five years when he would inevitably be married to someone else, that if Alexandria called for his aide he would come to her without a question. It would make him feel terrible to leave someone behind to help his true mate but Dominic would always feel a pull toward Alexandria.
When Dominic started to come to, his grip on Alexandria hadn't loosened. He shifted just enough so that he was laying on his side, clutching Alexandria to his chest. He smiled half-heartedly, trying to commit the feeling of her in his arms to his memory. This wouldn't last forever. Reaching up, he carefully pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. He cupped her cheek, his eyes flickering down to her lips and for a moment, he allowed himself the need to lead forward and kiss her for the first time. Instead, Dominic continued to cup her cheek before his arm eventually dropped to his side.

He would lay here hours on end with Alexandria if he could, just listening to the sound of her heartbeat.

Once Alexandria had fallen asleep, she fell into a deep sleep. Though not sleeping well for days would do that to a person. And it was a long while until she started to slip back to consciousness. When she did start to come to, Alexandria felt the arms around her and the gentle movements that Dominic created. She let out a little hum before shifting in his arms slightly. Her face moved from Dominic's chest and moved up to press into his neck.

Slowly her arms slid until they were wrapped around his torso, her fingers lightly brushing up and down along his skin. This was so lovely. This was what she wanted. Alexandria was quiet at first, not wanting to speak and ruin this. It was just too comfortable and warm and lovely to want to ruin with words. Though a few minutes moved by and Alexandria could feel herself walking up more and more. By Dominic's movements alone, she could tell that he was already awake.

"What do you want to do today?" Alexandria whispered to him softly. She needed to talk to Dominic about everything. She knew she needed to tell him what was on her mind, tell Dominic that she really did want to return back with him. But she didn't have to do it right now. Alexandria would be sure to talk to him today but she wanted to do it later. When it was clear to her that they were both ready to have that conversation.

Slowly, her head lifted away from his chest and Alexandria looked up at him with gentle eyes. Though there was a small content smile on her face, feeling much better now that she had gotten the sleep she had needed. "Anything that you really want to do or talk about?"

A tiny piece of Dominic had hoped that Alexandria would continue sleeping even longer than she had. He knew that she would eventually wake but that when she did, things would change between them. Once the guilty faced the trial in her kingdom, Dominic’s pack would expect justice of their own kind. The guilty would be taken to his home and, well, tried there. Though he knew what would happen the moment that his pack caught sight of them. Something he was relieved Alexandria would not have to witness. He was sure it would scare the princess. It would show her what wolves were truly capable of when one of their own was threatened.

Dominic was saddened when he felt the telltale signs of Alexandria beginning to wake. He swallowed thickly and continued the gentle rubbing of her side. He hummed in response to her question, shrugging his shoulders. “Today is up to you,” he answered simply. He wouldn’t be here for much longer but he thought it important to enjoy what little time he had left.

His lips twitched upward at the thought of talking more in depth with her but Dominic was convinced that Alexandria’s mind was made up. He wouldn’t sway her own, he had already made that decision. “I won’t be here for much longer,” he finally spoke, his eyes narrowing slightly. His instincts were on edge just thinking about it but he couldn’t remain here forever. They both knew that. “If there is anything you wish for me to see before I have to leave... show me today,” he said gently, pulling his arm away from her and settling it against his side. “Before politics get any heavier.”

Reaching out, Alexandria gently laid her hand on his cheek and ran her thumb along him. She could tell that he was on edge. It was so obvious on his face that Alexandria felt sure that even a blind man could see it. Part of her wanted to wait to have this conversation until they had a good day. Alexandria wanted to get every advantage she could before she told him how she felt. While she was sure of what she wanted, Alexandria was fearful that Dominic would think she was just doing it for someone else, whether it be him or the arrangement their families planned. If he was in a good mood, maybe he would not question it.

Though now Alexandria was unsure if her plan would work. She knew Dominic wanted her. So maybe spending a whole day with her while thinking this was the last day would be rough for him. Her chest tightened up for a moment before Alexandria sat up in the bed, sliding out of his arms as she did so. Perhaps now was better than later. Though she just needed to convince him that this was what she wanted. "I wanted to talk to you about that. About you not being here for much longer."

Alexandria took in a deep breath as she turned to face Dominic fully. She felt so nervous and worried that Dominic wouldn't believe her. And she didn't really have an idea of what to do or say if that were to happen. "Do you remember what you promised me? You told me that you would never force the arrangement on me, that you would let me do what I wanted even though it would be difficult on you." Alexandria looked up into his eyes. "And I am reminding you so you know that I know. I know that I have the choice to do what I want now. It means so much to me that you released me from that. But since we have arrived here my feelings about you have changed. Dominic, I like you. I like you a lot and I am not saying I want to plan a wedding or anything like that but I really want this. I want to go back with you. I want to date you." Alexandria leaned forward a bit as she continued. "And I promise you that this is my choice. This is what I want."

Dominic's brows pulled together when Alexandria said she wanted to talk. His heart started racing as he lowered his gaze, afraid of what she was about to say to him. He was so sure that this was it, she was going to tell him that she didn't want to see him after this unless it was some sort of emergency. Already, Dominic's instincts were going crazy. Begging him to run because he knew that he couldn't force her like he might have shown a wolf. There was no pinning her in place and showing her that Dominic was the one in charge, that he was the alpha, her mate. Even then, that happened so rarely because mates were meant to love and support each other - reminding someone of their place was only done in dire situations.

He refused to look up at her, his jaw clenching as Dominic forced himself to nod his head at her first question. Dominic was hardly even listening to Alexandria or the words that she spoke, barely registering the fact that she was speaking. But then Alexandria was saying the words that he thought he would never hear from her. Dominic had resigned himself to the fate because as painful as it would be, Dominic had no intention at all of hurting her. Just the thought made his stomach churn, made him feel ill.

Dominic looked up slowly, his eyes narrowed as he looked toward Alexandria. I want to go back with you. The words were racing around his mind, over and over as he tried to get around the fact that he wasn't simply hearing things. Dominic swallowed thickly, doubt creeping in for a brief moment. Was this just a cruel trick?

"Are you.." Dominic trailed off, huffing as he realized he wasn't even sure what he wanted to say to her. "Sure?" He spat out the word before he could lose the courage. Being brave had never been something Dominic had to worry about but now? Now, Dominic felt small, afraid that Alexandria was about to rip his heart right out of his chest. "You don't have to say it just because of anything I've done," he added, still not quite sure he believed that Alexandria could want to go with him of her own accord.

A bit of confusion started to move along Alexandria's face as she watched Dominic's reaction to what she was saying. It was not what she expected at all from the wolf. While she had no idea if he was going to react well or not, Alexandria didn't really imagine a more... what was it. Calm? That wasn't quite it but it was a very understated reaction. Alexandria could not put her finger on what Dominic was feeling and in that moment, she kinda wished she could read his emotions like he could read hers.

Although she knew the answer to his question, Alexandria paused for a moment. She reached out and lightly took Dominic's hand into hers. She lightly held it as she ran her thumb along the back of his hand. Her nervousness had not gone down, especially as Dominic didn't seem pleased with the decision. Though he was questioning it, which she had worried that he would. All the princess could do was hope that her words would be enough to convince him.

"I am sure that this is what I want to do. I am not making this decision because I think it's the one that others want to hear. No one has told me that I have to go back with you. And I am not doing this because I feel like I owe you something. I mean, I do feel like I owe you something after everything but marriage wouldn't be it." Alexandria said with a bit of an awkward laugh, trying to ease the tension. Though as she glanced over the look on his face, she stopped and cleared her throat a bit before continuing on.

"What I am trying to say is that I do like you. I understand that it's not the same that you feel for me but that's because wolves skip all of the steps humans have to go through. So I would like to go back with you and actually date you. I don't know if wolves do that at all but...I know I would be upset if you left without me. And despite everything that has happened since we arrived here, I feel a lot closer to you. So I want to see where this goes with you. Especially since things will be calming down after the trial. Then it can just be us without all of the other distractions."

Alexandria glanced down at their hands for a moment, lightly running her thumb over the back of Dominic's hand as she did so. "You can tell that I am telling the truth, can't you? I know that you can sometimes key into how I am feeling. Or is it something else? Did you not want me to come back with you? Is dating be too much to ask for when I can't promise marriage at the end?" Alexandria asked him softly. "I wish that I could but I can't. I don't just get to look at someone and know they are my soulmate. I want to do this but I don't want to be unkind to you. "

Dominic could have gone the easy route and told Alexandria that dating without the promise of marriage, in the end, was too much for him. It sounded so incredibly hard, Dominic could admit that easily but it wasn't what was holding him back from simply agreeing to what Alexandria was asking of him. He knew that he would do just about anything if Alexandria asked him to because she was his mate. That was all there was to it. Dominic bit back a sigh, grinding his teeth together as he looked away from her. He shrugged, wondering if he should ignore the truth and just tell Alexandria to stay here. Would that have been easier? He thought it might have been.

"There will be.. things you don't like when we return home. My pack is going to want answers. When we return, they will expect Nicholas and the perpetrators to be arriving as well," Dominic explained lowly. He refused to look at her as he spoke, her touch the only thing that was managing to keep him calm. "Our justice system is far more direct and... it will not look upon them nicely. We do not care for mercy, especially when it comes to threats against our future alpha.. and his mate," Dominic added with a halfhearted shrug. "As long as you.. you know what you will face when.. we get there."

Dominic turned toward Alexandria then, swallowing thickly. "You could see me... us differently after that happens. And I can't say I'd blame you given what I've seen here. Your customs are different, after all.." he trailed off. Dominic reached up, rubbing his cheek with his free hand before he let out a sigh. His shoulders sagged. Dominic was so torn. He wanted to tell her that it would be easy for her to come back with him but he could only imagine how Alexandria would react when she saw the darker side of his world. He couldn't deny his people their justice just to make her feel better.

Clearing his throat, Dominic gave her a sad sort of smile. "What will your parents think? Will they be open to you returning, even if they know it may not be permanent?" Dominic asked, raising an eyebrow. As much as he wanted to ignore others' opinion on what they did, Dominic knew that they couldn't simply ignore Alexandria's parents or even his own.

At his words, Alexandria's head dropped slightly, a frown coming over her face. "I don't expect for our customs and people to be the same. Even when I may not agree, I am not going to request that your laws change for me. I will respect what you and your country decide to do." Alexandria whispered to him. The truth was, she still had hurt feelings about how everything had gone down. Especially as it seemed that Dominic had little respect for her country's laws when it came to the justice system. Though she wasn't about to do the same to him.

As for their justice system, Alexandria didn't know much about it. Of course, there were the rumors, but she had learned through her research of wolves that most of the rumors weren't true. But she understood that it was certainly swifter and the punishments were a lot harsher. Alexandria felt like she would have to see it for herself to really know how she felt about how they handled justice. "I understand. But the only way to know is to try, right? And I know I am still naive about your country and wolves in general but I have still been doing my reading."

Alexandria was starting to run her fingers over his skin nervously. Dominic certainly was not giving her the reaction that she had been hoping for. She had thought that he would at least be a little pleased but it was beginning to feel like that was not the case at all. Maybe he was hoping that she would have said no? Or perhaps he was still too upset over the last several days... It was too difficult for her to tell. "My parents will be pleased," Alexandria responded. "Even if it is not permanent, they will see it as a step in the right direction."

Her thumb tapped nervously against the palm of his hand a few times. Though, slowly, she lifted her head up and meet his eyes. "Do you want me to come back with you?" Alexandria asked him, for the first time actually worried that Dominic did not want this. "Would you be truly happy to have me there with you?"

"I won't ask you to witness it," Dominic spoke almost before Alexandria could finish her sentence about respecting his country's laws. He knew it would be ugly, brutal even for some of the wolves that were accustomed to their way of life. Younger ones wouldn't be required to attend the execution, nor would anyone did not care to see such bloodshed. But still, many would appear because the man had nearly been the cause of Dominic's death. Had they lost their prince in that attack, the war that would have raged would have never come to an end. Regardless of who was ruling either side, regardless of what either of them tried to do.

Dominic's stomach turned at the thought of Alexandria witnessing the way they dealt with Nicholas once they returned to his home country. He was partly convinced that once she saw it, if she did, that it would indeed be the end of their potential relationship. But he could not ask his people not to punish the man that had nearly taken his mate from him. Dominic had suffered but that had been the price he was willing to pay, to save her life. He would pay that time and time again, if he was asked to. Dominic felt as if he was heading toward a trap; he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. Not an intentional trap but it was there, either way.

He wondered if he should lie and tell her all of the good things that he was sure Alexandria wanted to hear. Hell, Dominic wanted to say them and he wanted them to be true but he couldn't shake the sense of doom. Until this was all settled, he wasn't sure that he would be able to relax enough to truly be able to be comfortable with Alexandria again.

"Happy, yes. But," Dominic paused as he lifted his gaze, grinding his teeth together as he stared at the ceiling. "Nervous, too. You have not seen what wolves are truly capable of, save for the assassination attempt. We are brutal, we rely on our instincts far more than I believe you do and.." Dominic trailed off, shrugging. He still hadn't moved away from her, wanting to enjoy her touch for as long as he could. Dominic would never force her hand and that was the part that hurt the most, Dominic thought. Because he knew that if Alexandria wished it, he would let her depart without so much as an attempt to stop her. "I don't want to lose you," he added finally, his shoulders sagging.

Alexandria's head tilted ever so slightly as Dominic almost started to speak over her. She was surprised by how fast he responded. And it seemed that it was more than just not expecting her to witness. It seemed that Dominic did not want her to witness it. Not that Alexandria wanted to see anything that has only ever been described as swift and harsh against another being, she was worried about just how harsh the laws there were. Perhaps the rumors about their justice were more truth than fiction. What a frightening notion.

Though she remained quiet as Dominic started to speak once again. It was comforting to know that Dominic was happy to have her come back with him but he had some concerns. And they were now sitting at the forefront of her mind as well. The last time she went, Alexandria didn't really get the chance, or allow herself to overcome her fears, to truly understand Dominic and the wolves. There had been many obstacles in her way. But Alexandria had managed to calm herself down enough to try. And the books she had taken from Dominic's library had been extremely helpful. It calmed most of her fears thus far. Though there were sections of it that she still felt...anxious about. But to hear Dominic's own words about their brutality was not reassuring.

It was just a reminder that she needed to be careful. They were, technically, still part beast. But it was also clear to her that Dominic was much more than that. And she did not fear him. In fact, at this point, Dominic was the only one she felt safe enough with to sleep.

Alexandria's body leaned forward slowly until her head laid down against his shoulder. She let out a small sigh as she closed her eyes. "There is much that I don't know about wolves. And I am sure that the books from your library don't even cover half of it all. But I know you well enough now to know that no matter where I was, I would feel safe if you were there...Even if things were to get brutal." Alexandria paused for a moment before continuing. "I am sorry that this is hard for you. It is not fair that your mate is human. If there was a way for me to know if you were The One, I would do it."
