"I never said you were." Alexandria said softly as she looked back at him. She didn't believe that all werewolves were monsters. Even so, she didn't know who was and who wasn't. Nor did she believe that her place was meant to be here. Watching as Dominic sat down at a bench, the princess walked up to him. She hesitated as he motioned for her to sit next to him. Though, she did so after a moment.

As he started to speak again, Alexandria let out a small sigh before shaking her head. "Of course I do." She said, keeping her voice gentle before standing up and turning to Dominic. "And I am sure that you do as well. But I would like to save this for another time. In truth, it is time that I head to bed. It has been a long day." The Princess was starting to see Dominic's desire to move things along, to skip through this part of uneasiness. But she wasn't going to let him rush her and Alexandria was not ready to show her hand. He could answer all of her questions but Alexandria wasn't going to believe anything until she saw the results with her own eyes.

Turning, Alexandria started to make her way back to the house, this time not waiting for Dominic. She did not feel the need for an escort to bring her back to her bedroom. After all, Alexandria did not trust Dominic so she figured her chances of getting attacked or stopped were the same with or without him. Anyways, if Dominic wanted to come, he would follow.

Dominic opened his mouth to say something to Alexandria but he had nothing that he felt like he could say. He was at a loss for words which never happened with him. He wanted to say something that would ease the tension between the pair but he wasn't sure that there was anything that he could say that would do it. He hung his head and stared at his hands, flexing them for a moment as he listened to the sounds of Alexandria standing. Dominic lingered for a minute, not wanting her to feel like he was holding her hand and babysitting her. Exhaling, Dominic reluctantly stood and began to follow after her.

There was nothing to say so he stayed silent throughout the trip back to Alexandria's room. Dominic shoved his hands into his pockets, keeping his chin raised despite how defeated he felt. He knew that if he let on how he felt to his pack, they'd like Alexandria even less than they already did. That was the last thing that any of them needed.

Dominic stood in front of her door, his brows pulling together. His face scrunched as if he was trying to decide what he wanted to say before he sighed, his shoulders sagging. "Sleep well, Alexandria," he decided to go with. He wanted to offer to stay in her room, that he could sleep on the floor just as comfortably as the bed but he didn't think she would take too kindly to the offer. He gave her half a smile before he turned, starting fro his room so that he could shower and relax.

A little frown moved over Alexandria's lips as she watched Dominic turn and head down the hallway. "Good night, Dominic." She said softly before closing and locking the door behind her. It was possible, that maybe she felt the tiniest bit guilty for affecting the Prince's mood so drastically, so quickly. The princess had not expected him to take her words so deeply, nor did she expect to have much effect on the man she just met. Seeing this just reminded the Princess that she needed to be careful with her words. Wolves were different from humans and she needed to ensure to get her point across without bringing down Dominic's spirits.

Though Alexandria certainly did not feel the slightest bit guilty about ending the day early or refusing to answer Dominic's question. She had been truthful about it being a long day, and the princess was tired. Plus, she did feel the need to be careful with everyone... It was going to be difficult threading the line between being friendly and keeping things to herself.

After a quick shower, Alexandria headed off to bed, ensuring to keep her dagger close. Even in her locked bedroom, she did not feel completely safe. There was always a chance someone would come in and she was not sure about these wolves.

Once morning came, Alexandria got ready for the day and headed down to have a private breakfast with her family. It was one of the last times she would have a moment alone with them before they left to head back home... After they were done, the Princess made her way to where she was supposed to meet Dominic for their trip to the city.

Dominic had stayed up for most of the night, unable to shake the unease from his shoulders. He kept thinking about just how... standoffish Alexandria had been. He almost wanted to say that she had been cold but she was a human and she didn't really understand wolves' nuances. She didn't understand how a wolf's mood could change because of their mate's, the moment that a wolf accepted someone as their mate. She wasn't being cold on purpose, she was just nervous. She was afraid of what she was facing. That was all there was to it. Nothing else. Dominic tried to keep telling himself that time and time again but it didn't help to calm his wolf at all. His wolf wanted to be close to Alexandria, to protect her. To show her that she was safe and no harm at all would come to her but Dominic was doing his best to respect her wishes.

He had been debating with himself the entire night, trying to decide whether going into town with Alexandria was even worth it. He wasn't sure that she would even feel up to going into town. It would be so many more new experiences and she was already overwhelmed. Wouldn't it be wrong if he forced her to something she wasn't really ready for?

Exhaling, Dominic lingered in the kitchen. He was on his third cup of coffee, having hardly slept. He gave his mother a lopsided smile, bumping her with his shoulder. It was a wordless way to tell her that he was okay, it was obvious that she was concerned about him. But Dominic was going to be okay, one way or another.

"I think I will cancel our trip into town. We can go once Alexandria feels a little more comfortable around me. Around us," Dominic muttered, holding up his hand when his mother went to speak. "She needs to be comfortable around us, first and foremost. If I continue to force her into things she's not ready for, she's never going to trust me. That's not how a relationship works. Not a successful one, right?"

Alexandria glanced down at herself for a moment, stopping in an empty hall while doing so. She felt like she was ready to go into the wolf town despite her fears about it. It wouldn't make much sense for anyone to try to hurt her in such a public area, even if that area was full of those who used to be her enemy. And Alexandria was beginning to believe that the wolves wouldn't do anything outside of Dominic or the alphas' wishes.

Still, she had ensured that she was prepared for any such event. Either for Dominic to show his true colors or for a singular wolf to go after her. Alexandria was wearing leather calf-high boots, jeans with a cute navy blue blouse. It was an outfit that Alexandria was sure she could run in, or fight in if she had to. She also had her sliver dagger slid in the inside of her boots. No one would know it was even there unless Alexandria pulled it out. The princess wasn't planning on fighting but she would if need be.

Once she got her courage back up, Alexandria continued down the hallway to where she was told Dominic was. The woman had gotten lost on her way to find where they were meant to meet so settled for finding where he currently was when one of the staff told her.

It was not long before she was outside of the room. She took a deep breath before pushing her hair back. Alexandria had let her hair down today and went lighter on the makeup. It seemed that the wolves were more into natural looks anyways. Even though Dominic hadn't done anything the day before, she was still scared and nervous. Alexandria knocked on the door, waiting a few moments before speaking. "Dominic? It is Alexandria. I am sorry I didn't go to where we were suppose to meet but I got lost and I was pointed in this direction."

Dominic had stood after excusing himself from the table that he sat at with his parents. He didn't care to hear their lectures on having to push boundaries because the greatest growth only ever occurred when you were most uncomfortable. He found himself holed up in his office, trying to sort through the kingdom's affairs. Slowly but surely, Dominic had started taking over more of the duties of running the kingdom from his father. This was just another one of them.

He had been so engrossed in his work that he didn't notice the intensity of Alexandria's scent growing. She was searching for him. Coming to him. Dominic tensed, startled by the sound of a knock at the office door. His eyes narrowed as he looked up, realizing all too quickly who was on the other side of the door. Her scent combined with her voice warmed his heart. She had sought him out, that was at least a step in the right direction. Right? He hoped.

Dominic rose to his feet, gathering a few of the more sensitive papers into a pile before dropping them into a drawer in his desk. He moved around the desk, quick to pull open the door. He swallowed, offering her a brilliant smile despite the apprehension he felt. Why had she tried to find him? He thought it was clear that they weren't going into town any longer, he hadn't gone on to find her... if they were going, he wouldn't have waited until so late in the day.

"I'm sorry, some things needed my attention," Dominic explained, tilting his head to the side. "And I thought that it would be best if we waited to go into town until you were a bit more comfort around me. Around us," he said, hoping that he didn't offend her with the way he spoke. It was obvious she was uncomfortable but now he was pointing it out, rather bluntly. "Otherwise you won't enjoy your time in town and I want you to."

The princess was speechless for a moment, unsure of how to respond to Dominic's bluntness. Her heart was twisting, causing chills to run up and down her chest.  He was right, she didn't feel comfortable about him or the others. But it was not something Alexandria wanted to figure out, especially not so quickly. Nor did she want him to say anything to her about it. It only made Alexandria feel guilty and uncomfortable. Though she was also relieved that they didn't have to go anymore.

"Oh..right. Of course, that makes sense." Alexandria said after a few long moments, folding her hands together as she did so. She suddenly felt confused as to what to do with her hands and limbs while speaking, her fingers fidgeting now. "I'm sorry - ah what I meant was that I wanted to apologize. For yesterday, that is... well I suppose now as well. I didn't mean to - or rather I didn't  know that - Oh but you're busy, aren't you? I should let you get back to work."

The princess felt a little dumbstruck by her own inability to speak properly. She wasn't quite sure what even came out of her own lips or why but it was clearly time to leave. Alexandria could barely remember a time where she bumbled over her words so poorly. So as her face and the tips of her ears started to grow hot from embarrassment, Alexandria respectfully nodded her head to the prince before quickly turned on her heels and headed straight for her room.

Dominic’s back straightened as he watched the confusion flit across Alexandria’s features. She would never be able to hide her emotions from him, no matter how hard she tried. He was a wolf, after all. He only hoped that there would be one day when she didn’t even want to hide herself away from him. The thought of her always being closed off and afraid of him broke his heart. His wolf wanted nothing more than to be close to Alexandria. He wanted her by his side where he knew she was safe but he knew that he needed to give her time. He couldn’t rush things or they would never have the loving marriage that he hoped that they could have, one day.

Watching as Alexandria retreated from his office. Dominic couldn’t help but frown. He took a step out of the room, prepared to call out to her before he thought better of it. He didn’t want to make her any more uncomfortable than she already was - he would see her at dinner. And she was right - he did have work to do.

Reluctantly, Dominic turned back to his office and closed the door behind him. As he began his work again, Dominic did his best to focus but his thoughts kept drifting to the human girl that he found himself already caring so much for.

Once back at her room, Alexandria was quick to close and lock the door behind her. A little gasp leaving her lips as she pressed her back against the wall. That was so embarassing. Her face was growing hotter at the thought of it. The princess brought her hands up to her cheeks, covering for face for a moment as she let out a bit of a frustrated sigh.

There was a bigger issue than being embarrassed, however. Dominic had been spot on with how she was feeling which meant that Alexandria was being too obvious or that wolves were receptive to emotions. Either way, it was a problem. How was she going to work to destroy this arrangement in the background if it was easy for him to figure her out? Alexandria needed to solve this issue or she needed to work fast.

    --

By the time dinner had come around, Alexandria was feeling a lot calmer. She had come up with a few ideas on how to tear this agreement apart. Even better, none of it involved dealing with, tricking or lying to Dominic. There was no way for him to read her in this scenario, she hoped. It all was behind the scenes work, and hopefully, things she could do without any suspicion falling on her. Alexandria still needed to figure out the plan, and if any of them would even work but at least she had ideas now.

Standing up from the floor, the princess dusted off her dress. It was time to head to dinner with Dominic. She didn't know if others would be around or not, but she assumed that would be the case as he kept saying the pack was close-knit. Folding her hands together, Alexandria headed off to the dining room. This would be an opportunity to see if Dominic really could read her like an open book.

Dominic focused all of his attention on the tasks in front of him, trying to distract himself from the lingering desire to find Alexandria in their home. He wanted to get to know her, he wanted to learn what made his mate tick. Even if it was months... years before they truly reached that step, Dominic would be fine with it. At the moment, all he really wanted was to be close to her. He wanted to be her friend, her confidant. The lover and husband part of their relationship could come later. He didn't mind because he knew how humans could be. They weren't able to sense emotions or lies like a wolf could... mating a human was an entirely different process. Especially if he wanted to wait until she was ready - instead of forcing her to be with him.

After a few hours of working on their finances, Dominic made his way up to his room so that he could freshen up. He knew that Alexandria wasn't ready for much as far as their relationship but he still wanted to be able to present well to her. He didn't want Alexandria thinking he was a slob or anything else equally ridiculous. Dominic wanted to impress her, no matter what that meant. He was sure he would do just about anything to make her happy.

Dominic decided to put on a pair of dark jeans and a henley shirt. It wasn't too terribly dressed up but he thought if he relaxed a bit and showed that he could be just as relaxed as he thought she might prefer. Dominic didn't know what Alexandria was into but he thought maybe a bit more of a relaxed approach might do some good, at least with breaking ice.

Entering the large, open dining room, Dominic greeted the people as he passed by them. He eventually sat by the head of the table, on his father's right side. The seat beside him was open and he hoped that Alexandria would join them. He looked up when he sensed her, offering a small smile as he raised to his feet. He pulled out her chair, his attention focused on the woman in front of him. "I hope your day was well," he greeted her quietly, pushing her chair in a bit before he sat.

It took Alexandria a moment to gain the courage to walk into the dining room, though once she did, she was met with many of the same faces as the day before. Though, unlike yesterday, they only took notice of who was entering before moving their attention back to those around them. She let out a silent breath of relief. They would still be mindful of her but it was better.

Her eyes shifted around the room for a moment before stopping at Dominic, seeing him come to his feet and pulling a chair out for her. A little thankful smile came to the princess' lips as she sat down next to him. She still felt a little embarrassed about what had transpired earlier. Though, most of that had washed away with the work she had put forward afterward. Alexandria was pleased with the ideas she had come up with and was ready to test the wolf's senses.

"It did go well, thank you. I hope your day was as well. Were you able to finish your work?" Alexandria started to fill up her plate as she waited for Dominic to respond. The meat was less cooked here than she personally liked, but she had found their meals to be delicious thus far.

The princess took a moment to look around the room again, watching the wolves eat and speak. It really was quite a normal dinner. To her, it seemed closer to a party night but their mealtime always involved a lot of people. Having so many wolves caused the princess to feel fainthearted, but there was no doubt that she felt less fearful than the day before. While it was unclear on if they would hurt her, the concerns of an immediate attack were dissipating.

Dominic couldn't say that he blamed his people for being apprehensive of Alexandria's presence here. It had never been done before. A wolf married to a human, it was unheard of - humans were not to be trusted. And yet, here was a human princess betrothed to their prince. To the wolf that would one day rule over them. That meant that one day, Alexandria would rule at his side. That one way, wolves would be led by a human woman. Dominic would be lying if he said that he wasn't at least a bit apprehensive about the entire thing but he wanted to at least give it all that he had. It was for the betterment of his people, what sort of prince would he be if he said no?

He was relieved when Alexandria seemed to be a bit more at ease while she joined him. That was all that he wanted for her. They didn't know each other well at all but Dominic would be damned if his mate was unhappy. Once they were well and truly together, Dominic would move Heaven and Earth to make sure that her needs were met, above anything else. She would be his mate and Dominic would prove to be a good choice as her husband.

"I got a large portion of what I needed to get done, done. There is always work, unfortunately," Dominic said with a light laugh. He had learned that lesson quite well from his father. Even when he thought there was nothing to be done, there was always something that could be tended to.

Dominic cleared his throat, turning toward Alexandria after he took a bite of his food. "Tell me. Do you like to read?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "We do have quite a library if you do. I would like to show you to it after dinner, if it is something you would be interested in," he said, hoping that it was something that they could begin to come together on. Even small progress was better than nothing to him.

Alexandria lifted her eyes up to the prince, a soft smile coming across her lips. "Yes, I do like to read. Though I usually have some difficulty finding the time to do so." She responded. Though as Alexandria started to think about it, she would probably have plenty of time to read and do other things once she was here. During her stay, her parents had taken over all of her other responsibilities. They said it would be too difficult to do them so far from home, but the princess knew they just wanted her to spend more time with Dominic.

Even so, she should have plenty of free time as it was unlikely that the wolves would give her anything to do. She was rather sure that they would not want her in their affairs. Even if they truly wanted her to be Queen, it was much too early for all of that. "I suppose I will have some time now though, to read that is." The princess continued on. "I would enjoy seeing the library."

The Princess was beginning to see the prince as a very interesting man. When she first arrived, Alexandria had been expecting that he would try to reject this proposition, to refuse or try to stop it... she supposed he could be working behind the scenes to do something but in the least, Alexandria had not expected much from Dominic. But, even though she didn't exactly want him to, he was making a very clear effort.

"Do you enjoy reading as well, Dominic?" Alexandria asked him, her head turning to the side slightly before she started to eat again. It was curious. Was Dominic just this open or were wolves like this in general? Alexandria wasn't sure if it even mattered which one was the reasoning behind it. It had become clear that she needed to be careful with what she said and how she acted around him. She would need to try to open up a little and calm down.

Dominic nodded his head the moment that Alexandria said that she wanted to see the library. He wanted to show her all that he could provide for her and everything that he could give to her. A small smile settled onto his features as he glanced around the room before his attention turned back to Alexandria. "Then it's settled," he said, taking a bite of his food. "After we are finished her, I will show you to the library. You're free to be there for however late you'd prefer.. whenever you want to be. It doesn't matter. You are always safe inside," he explained, hoping that she would take advantage of the library.

If she opened up to the library, Dominic would take that as progress. Progress because she was finding comfort in some part of their home, even if it wasn't him. One day it would be him or so he hoped.

"I do," Dominic said, nodding his head. He flashed a light grin. "Like you, I don't have all that much time to read because I have so many responsibilities. I read when I can manage to find the time," he explained. He was ecstatic that Alexandria was even asking him questions because she was showing that she wanted to get to know him a bit more or so he thought.

"What else do you like to do? Perhaps when we go into town, we can pick up a few things that you can enjoy during time that you would like to spend alone," Dominic offered. He knew that he might be pushing his luck, offering to go into town so quickly after the last attempt but Alexandria seemed to be opening up and he wanted to take advantage of that.

The princess gave Dominic a little nod. It was good to know that the library would always be accessible to her and that there was no clear cut closing and opening time. Alexandria preferred to do most of her reading in the evening as that was usually the time she wasn't disturbed. There was also a chance that the library would be empty if she were to go later into the evening or into the night. And, if she was safe there, that was even less to worry about.

Alexandria was quiet for a moment as she thought about what else she might like to do. It was not very often that she had time alone but soon she would have an abundance of it. Her only true responsibility was to get to know the prince, but he still had his duties to attend to. And it wasn't like she had her friends here either.

"I enjoy baking but I am not sure there would be a lot for us to pick up in town for that. Though I also do a lot of sketching." She answered. Alexandria was unsure if she would be able to spend time in the palace kitchens, but if she could, it was sure to be fully stocked. There were things they could pick up in town for sketching, however. The princess was surprised that he was offering to bring her after their earlier conversation. He had canceled their trip today, and admittedly, Alexandria was still fearful of being around that many unknown wolves... not that the castle was probably much better.

Dominic nodded almost immediately as Alexandria mentioned liking baking. He wouldn't have pinned her as a baker, he'd heard of the humans mostly keeping servants to do their house chores. Wolves still had them around but they weren't nearly as abundant as he heard they were i the human realm. Clearing his throat, Dominic nodded his head. "You're always welcome in the kitchen whenever you'd like. My mother is an amazing cook and she is in charge of most of our meals," he mentioned, glancing toward his mother. He flashed her a small smile before he turned back to Alexandria.

"I would love if you made a dessert sometime. It doesn't have to be for everyone, it can just be for you and me," Dominic explained quietly. He hoped that she would take up the offer. The idea of Alexandria cooking something for him had his wolf happy. It would be Alexandria providing for him and that was a warm feeling that he wouldn't have expected quite yet.

"We can gather you some sketching supplies when we do have the chance to head into town," he said, giving a nod of his head. Dominic was hopeful that with the promise of supplies, it might help open Alexandria up to the idea of going into town with him. When he noticed that the two of them had managed to finish off their meals, Dominc's smile grew on his features.

"Ready to go to visit the library?" Dominic asked as he pushed to his feet, offering his hand to her to help her up. Though as soon as she was standing, Dominic reluctantly forced himself to let go of her hand.

"Yes, I am." Taking Dominic's hand, Alexandria moved onto her feet. Though once she was standing, she was please that Dominic let go and just started to lead her to the library. She just wasn't ready to be so touchy feely yet. Alexandria knew she was going to have to open up, to calm down a bit but it seemed a bit too soon for all of that.

As they headed down the hallway, Alexandria moved so she was standing besides Dominic instead of behind him. She looked over at the wolf for a moment before speaking again. "I do not know what kind of desserts that you like." Alexandria said as she folded her hands in front or herself. Making Dominic and herself something to eat was something that Alexandria was willing to do. She enjoyed baking and, hopefully, it would show Dominic that she wasn't completely closed to him.

"What would you like to eat?" She asked him after a moment before continuing. "Do you like chocolate or fruits or caramel?" If she was going to make him something, Alexandria at least wanted it to be something that Dominic wanted. Though she was also curious on if there was something that he couldn't eat. Like, could werewolves have chocolate? "Or is there something that you want specifically?"

Dominic longed to reach out and hold Alexandria's hand or simply brush his shoulder against hers. He wanted to just be a bit closer to her but it was still clear as day to him that she wasn't comfortable with him. It was in the way that she walked beside him, in the way she held herself and tried not to get too close to him. Dominic didn't blame her but it still bothered him. He was just going to do his best to ignore it.

"I don't particularly like overly sweet desserts. Sugar and sweet are good but too sweet is just..." Dominic trailed off, his face scrunching as he glanced toward Alexandria. "I hope that isn't too offensive," he spoke, a teasing smile growing on his lips. He eyed her, shoving his hands into his pockets as they neared the library.

Pushing open the door, Dominic stepped to the side so that Alexandria could enter the library before he followed her inside. Dominic left the door open, deciding that she would probably feel a bit more comfortable if it was open. She could leave if she chose to. "Fiction books are up top," he said, nodding toward the staircase. "Nonfiction are down here."

"I would have only been offended if you said you didn't like sweets at all." Alexandria told him with a light smile. Though it was not the answer she was expecting from Dominic, it did lead her in the correct direction. There were a couple of things that the Princess could make that would be delicious without instantly giving oneself a cavity. Now she would just need to make sure to do it soon. It was an easy request from Dominic, and hopefully, it would make him happy.

Once Dominic pushed the door open to the library, a bright smile came over Alexandria's face. She knew that they would have an impressive collection, after all it would have been odd if they did, but she did not expect the library itself to be so beautiful. Alexandria took a few steps inside, her eyes growing wider as she looked around in wonder. Alexandria knew her home library like the back of her hand. Now she hoped to do the same with this one.

The Princess turned back to Dominic for a moment. "It's amazing." Turning forward, Alexandria walked further into the library and headed up to one of the bookshelves. She would be sure to drop by soon and get a better look at the collection, maybe pick up a few to read since she would have plenty of time to do so. Her eyes briefly glanced over the books in front of her before moving onto the next bookshelf.

Dominic felt a sense of pride wash over him as Alexandria looked around the library. It was as clear as day to him that she was impressed by the space. Both by the way she held herself and by the excitement that sparked through her scent. He hoped one day to gain the same sort of reaction from her. It would take time, he knew, but he would be as patient as he possibly could be. After all, they would be together for the rest of their lives.

He sat on the couch in the centre of the room, watching Alexandria as she moved about the room. “You can take anything that catches your eye, to your chambers. Don’t worry about when you return them. The more important books, we have two copies of. Anything that is marked with a golden rim, please do not keep in your room,” Dominic said, hoping that she wouldn’t be too uncomfortable by what he was about to tell her.

“They are books written about our cultures. Our way of life. Everything from pack dynamics to food preferences to the way we prefer to dress and eat,” Dominic explained further. “And, of course, medicinal recipes should we need them to heal. If you’d ever like to read about them, that is,” he said, a small hope that she would want to learn more about her future people. “Mixing potions is quite like baking. Or so I’m told, anyway.”
