I wrote As The Clock Strikes. to "My Sundown" by Jimmy Eat World.

I generally do not include music with my stories, but sometimes I'll use the song I wrote the story to. I think maybe if people hear the music the story was penned to it might help them understand where the writer was coming from, which in turn can help them better understand the story. I've done that with at least three of my stories.

A lot of That One Boy was written to Sing the Sorrow by AFI. It's a very fitting album, especially Miseria Cantare.
Burning was written to Revenge by MCR and Decemberunderground by AFI.
Ten Days to Live is being written to TBP by MCR.
The new joint story, not officially titled yet, was formed and my first chapter written to almost everything I have. But the main bands were Good Charlotte, AFI, and MCR.

The first chapter of Blank Canvas. was written to "Love, Me" by Collin Raye except for the sex scene which was written to "Slackerbitch" and "Runing Up That Hill" by Placebo.

The second chapter is being written to "Secretly" by Skunk Anansie so far.

    Die Romantic by Aiden
Not Good Enough.... by Escape the Fate
Scene for Dummies by Hollywood Undead
    Its Not Over by Daughtry
What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts
Until The Day I Die by Story of the Year
    Saying Sorry by Hawthorne Heights
Ohio is for Lovers by Hawthorne Heights
    Stupid Boy by Keith Urban
Fer Sure Maybe by Medic Driod
    Moments by Emerson Drive
Chicks Dig It by Chris Cagle
    The Impossible by Joe Nichols
    Brokenheartsville by Joe Nichols
    And a lot more...

I generally have a song for the story that sets the mood. So for example if one of the main characters in my stories dies and his/her girl/boyfriend is all weepy sobby then I'll probably listen to What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts.

Usually I don't use music as an insperation but it does come handy in songfics [evidently :shifty] but mainly it's either MCR [especially Bullets and TBP] , Bright Eyes and Fall Out Boy ocassionally.
Good lyrics and sad music helps me write in general.
The song that inspires me to write the most is Roses For The Dead by Funeral For A Friend. In Love

A one-shot that i havn't posted yet, and can't think of a title for (yeah, because that makes an interesting contribution to the thread when there's something to compare it to), well, for the party section of it i was listening to Blur's greatest hits and some Pendulum (they would have probably been listening to a lot of Pendulum-type stuff at the party, so it made sense. It's like trance-dance-rave music by guys who love rock, there's this song 'Blood Sugar' with the catchiest hook i have heard in a song EVER). It's sort of a horror story, but that part of it is sandwiched either side of this house party that establishes normality and characters. For the first part i was listening to Bullet For My Valenntine, 'Intro', and 'Her Voice Resides'. I can't really listen to a song on repeat when i'm writing, except for a couple of noteable exceptions i'll write about in a sec.

For 'Today.', i needed a method of death for the start, and listening to Thursday's 'Understanding In A Car Crash' gave me quite an obvious idea... it seemed sort of destructive enough, but had some really nice imagery. I was listening to that a couple of times. 'Today.' provoked me to listen to quite a few songs on repeat. For the chapter 'Parkette.' i was listening to David Bowie 'Five Years'. It went so wonderfully with it when i was writing that i seriously considered trying to use the music player for the story. I might try and do that yet. It gets a bit of a shameless homage a couple of chapters on, though X]

So yeah. I listen to The Smashing Pumpkins a lot when writing, too.

When I write the chapters for Petals In The Wind I'm usually listening to music that inspires me. Usually it's MCR, but I've also used Alan Jackson, Aerosmith, The Wallflowers, Theory Of A Deadman, The Irish Descendants, Motley Crue, The Cult, and the soundtrack from the movie O Brother, Where For Art Thou?

Man, do I row a different boat. =P
For inspiration, I listen to instrumental orchestrations or piano solos.
Seriously. You get some profound ideas from that stuff.

I listen to a lot of edited versions of songs. Like piano instrumentals or slow choral versions. A lot of band music too like Mystic Legend and The Fortune Teller's Daughter.

I do that too. I cannot write while listening to rock or something. I can listen to it at night and come up with tiny mental music videos using my story and then go from there though.

Oh, my gosh, I do that exact same thing! I mean, even in the car, sometimes I'll just hope for the station to play a certain song, just because a few days ago I might have developed the most kick-butt music video for one of my stories. =P How weird is that?

When I bought some sheet music, there was a CD that came with it. I loved it and listen to it a lot.

Honestly, I don't really listen to music while writing. I do most of it in school, and a lot of my better stuff during discussions in Math. Don't know why, but my math teacher talking about algebra is so easy to write to, and a lot of good stuff comes out of it. It's kind of weird, actually.

If I decide to listen to music, rather than silence, I listen to a lot of acoustic music. I listen to the Goo Goo Dolls, Chopin, and various other "sad" songs. A lot of the time I'll download a soundtrack that's just a ton of thunder and rain on it. I also have some movie soundtracks with cellos and violins that I listen to. Usually, I can't listen to people singing, because then I can't concentrate on my own words.

The [currently untitled] story I'm working on right now was inspired by G.I.N.A.S.F.S.

I listen to that song when I'm brainstorming/thinking about the story.

I listen to Colorblind by Counting Crows when I'm writing sex/sexual tension scenes.

I listen to Secretly by Skunk Anansie and Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve for any other scene.
