Allie looked around the library, her eyes barely adjusted to the darkness. Looking over her shoulder to Vale, Allie grinned as she heard footsteps and pressed her finger to her lips, indicating for her friend to be quiet. Turning a corner, Allie grabbed onto someone's jacket, frowning as she felt a hot, sticky liquid onto her fingers, withdrawing quickly as she realised it was blood. "Vale!"
Allie sat in the police interrogation room, looking at the clock anxiously. She and Vale had been called in for questioning regarding the murder of Lucas Bridge. The ticking of the clock seemed to get louder as her anxiety grew. Surely the murder weapon would've been located by now and proven their innocence, but it seems Lucas' throat was slit and gripped tight by an unknown force - no weapon was found.

Dean Winchester frowned at his brother as he read over the file that was handed to them by the police chief. "Alright," he murmured to Sam. "Group of college seniors meet up for their usual weekend hijinks and suddenly one of them is killed, no murder weapon, throat slit on the victim and signs of strangulation and struggle." Dean frowned. "These two, Vale Wray and Allison Madden, are the last two to be questioned, they're the ones who came across the body."

Sam moved over to his brother to get a look at the file, skimming through it, flipping through the few pages available. "And none of them heard any kind of struggle prior to the body being found," he mentioned, noting the little note in the file as he read through it. He nodded, though, getting a look at the girls' part of the files. "I can interview Allison. It says she's the one who initially found the body before she called her friend over. Maybe I can see if she recalls hearing or seeing or smelling anything else there."

Vale leaned back in her seat tensely, in a separate interrogation room from Allie, her arms folded over her chest as she tried to avoid looking as tense and scared as she felt. Why hadn't somebody come in to talk to her yet? Swallowing hard, she tried not to let the silence in the room drowned out her thoughts, and she mentally ran through everything that happened, again and again, trying to figure out what had gone wrong, what had happened, and why the hell their friend would be killed.

Dean nodded. "Alright, I'll take Vale. Remember, no stone unturned. Sheriff says they've been pleading innocence since they got here." He looked to Sam. "Meet me here once you're done with Allison." He patted Sam's shoulder, walking to Interrogation Room 2, where Vale was kept. Knocking the door twice, Dean entered the room, throwing the file onto the table separating him from her. "Vale Wray? I'm Dean. Here to ask you a few questions about the discovery of your friend - Lucas, right?" He took in the sight of the young woman, undeniably attractive, also undeniably stressed. "Relax, I believe you. But I need some things answered, you gonna be okay with that?"

Allie folded her arms nervously across her chest, growing more nervous by the second. Looking up as someone knocked the door, Allie exhaled the breath she didn't realise she'd been holding. "Finally." She complained, frowning when she saw someone completely different to what she was expecting. Blinking in surprise, Allie cleared her throat, settling back down into her seat. "Before you say anything, no, I didn't slit his throat." She frowned, tired of repeating her words over and over.

Vale jumped slightly, startled from her thoughts when the file was thrown onto the table, and she stared at the man for a long moment, frowning. "You mean the discovery of our friend's body," she corrected quietly, swallowing hard, because whatever had happened to Lucas, he certainly hadn't deserved it. He was a good guy. She paused, though, hearing him say he believed her, and she stared at him for a while, unsure of whether he really did or whether he was trying to trick her into a false sense of security. Still, she cleared her throat and nodded slightly. "Whatever it takes to make this nightmare just end already. I doubt you'll ask anything that hasn't already been asked, though. No, we didn't do it. No, we can't think of anybody who would have done it. No, he didn't have any enemies that we knew of."

Sam had knocked on the door before he entered the room and he watched Allie for a moment, trying to gauge her. Nervous, stressed, and upset, she definitely didn't look like somebody who'd killed her friend. He took her in as he sat down and opened the file, admittedly a little thrown off by how gorgeous she was, but he cleared his throat and nodded. "Of course you didn't," he assured her as he looked at the file before he looked at her, "To be honest, you wouldn't have had time to hide the murder weapon before you and your friend found him - unless you two conspired together, but, even then, you wouldn't have had time to hide it before the authorities arrived, and they've searched that library high and low, in every nook and cranny, and haven't found a murder weapon yet. Chances are, they probably won't find it. Either way, I believe you when you say you didn't do this, so we won't have any problems there. Still, I'd like to ask you some questions, if you don't mind and... Well, they may seem odd, but they're very important. Is that alright with you?"

Dean nodded, understanding Vale's clear frustration. Feeling a twinge of sympathy in his chest, Dean offered Vale a kind smile, knowing it was probably the first smile she'd seen all day. Sitting on the edge of the table, Dean kept his eyes on the beautiful young woman before him, and trying his hardest to remain professional, he cleared his throat. "Did you smell anything weird - like sulphur?" He asked, arching a curious eyebrow, trying to show Vale he wasn't there to interrogate her harshly - or interrogate her, at all. But any lead to the thing that killed Lucas was a step in the right direction. "See anything out of the ordinary?"

Allie blinked in surprise at Sam's words, but nodded, relaxing in her chair. "That's alright by me." She replied, inwardly cringing at how meek she sounded in that moment. The day had been long and the officers had been harsh and the fact that the friggin FBI had to be called in was more than terrifying, but there was something about the man in front of her that made Allie feel at ease. "Thanks. For, you know, believing me." She ducked her head a little.

Vale stared for a moment when she saw him smile, unable to really take her eyes off him, though she tried not to let her guard down and shook her head slightly. "It was a library," she reminded as though that should give the answer easily, "Why would a library smell like sulphur? But, no, it didn't. I didn't really... See or hear or smell anything weird, but..." She frowned slightly, dropping her gaze. "It's weird that he didn't yell for help when whoever attacked him didn't... We didn't hear anything at all and it was silent because of the game we were playing, so we should have heard something, anything."

Sam smiled gently as he watched her, hoping to be of any help to this girl. He felt bad for her, that she had to go through this, and it couldn't have been easy being the first one to find her friend; he couldn't imagine what that must have been like to somebody who probably didn't know just how bad the world is. "You don't have to thank me," he assured her, shaking his head before he leaned forward, hoping to show that he was truly interested in whatever she had to say. "Can you remember anything about your surroundings tonight? Whether you saw anything or heard anything or smelled anything? Did anything stick out to you at all? The smell of sulphur, maybe lights behaving weirdly, any voices you didn't recognize?"

Dean nodded, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Is there a long history of the building?" He asked, still gentle, still approachable, just wanting to help Vale in any way that he could. He felt the need, the urge to protect her, and it was a feeling that Dean wanted to run from and relish in simultaneously - his instinct telling him to enjoy it, there was something about Vale he couldn't quite put his finger on. "Anything in there that's really old, grabs your attention when you pass by?" He made a mental note to himself - no sulphur, no demons, so the possibility of Lucas making some sort of deal was out of the question, and the cut across his throat was too clean to be done by a Hell hound. "I know these questions are weird, Vale, but they're vital, trust me."

Allie thought for a long moment, replaying the night in her head, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Not really." She frowned, knowing she probably wasn't being the most helpful person right now. "The only weird thing was, I guess, how quickly it happened." She looked to Sam, trying to show him she was genuine, unsure if she could hide the fear from her face. "I - I mean, we had to be quiet for the game, so we should of heard something - a scream, another person." She sighed, closing her eyes as she felt tears threatening to fall. "Sorry. I wish I could be more helpful, but there's not much more to it."

"I think the building was built in the 1820s or something," Vale said with a small shrug, "And I only know that because Lucas read the plaque for us a while back. There are a few decorations there that are super old, vases, journals that are in cases, things like that. Lucas almost knocked one over and caught it, all panicked and stuff with the thought of ruining it." She frowned slightly, shifting a bit. "He didn't deserve this, you know? He was a good guy."

Sam smiled to her and shook his head, taking in her mannerisms and a part of him wanted to reach out and tuck her hair away for her, but he held himself back. Something about Allie had Sam's full attention and all he wanted to do was to continue being around her, making sure she was okay and that she was safe. Clearing his throat when he realized how long he was silent, he shook his head again. "No, you're being helpful, don't worry," he assured her. It seemed it wasn't a demon, so at least that was one thing crossed off the list. "Is there anything... Super old or out of place there? Does anything give you an odd feeling about the place?"

Dean's eyebrows raised at the information that Vale had given him, nodding along to her words. It sounded like a spirit had latched onto an artifact in the library. "Would you mind taking my partner and I back to retrace your steps?" He asked, knowing it was a big thing to ask of her, but still, she was handling the situation so wonderfully, Dean couldn't help but admire Vale. There was something about her that made Dean curious, that made him want to get to know her more, but he had to remain professional - she had just lost a good friend, and he didn't want to push anything onto her. "I know." Dean nodded. "And we'll do everything to make sure this is solved." He promised.

Allie watched Sam for a moment, appreciating the fact he wasn't treating her like a criminal - his smile was so luminous, Allie wasn't sure how he did it, with a job like his. Being a Federal Agent couldn't of been easy. "The whole building is pretty old." She shrugged her shoulders lightly, watching him carefully, feeling like she could relax around him, he gave off the whole vibe of collected, and she relished in the feeling after a frightening evening. "But uh, there's old things in displays; diaries, vases, old jewellery." She explained. "Lucas actually nearly knocked a vase over, he freaked out." She smiled weakly. "He was a history nerd."

Vale watched him for a moment, shifting a bit, anxious about going back to the library after what had happened, but she wanted to do whatever it took to help find Lucas’s killer. “Okay… I don’t know how much help it will be, but I guess I can try,” she murmured quietly, hoping that she could trust Dean to solve this, though he seemed a lot more determined than the other cops here.

Sam listened quietly, blinking several times. A part of him was curious about the vase Allie had mentioned, wondering if the fact that Lucas had touched it had angered a spirit and that was what had happened, or if it had something to do with one of the other artifacts in the library. “Do you mind taking me and my partner to the library to show us this vase and the other artifacts?” he asked her gently. “It could end up being very important to the case.”

Dean nodded, sensing Vale's anxiety. "Hey," he spoke softly. "If, when we're there, you need air, or you just need to get out, just tell me. Because of the degree of the murder, and no definite arrests, I can't let you be alone, in case anything happens to you." Dean told her gently, worried about an vengeful spirit doing to Vale, what it did to Lucas. "I'm also going to tell the Police of Chief that you're innocent. It's clear to see, you don't need to be here." He told her gently, standing up, letting her follow his lead.

Allie watched Sam, her heart squeezing with fear at being back in the library. "I..." she ducked her head. "I'll try. Just don't let me get murdered, okay?" She asked, not understanding how a measly vase could be vital to the case they were building to solve Lucas' murder.

Vale chewed on her lip as she listened to Dean, watching him, hopeful that everything would be okay. “Okay,” she murmured quietly in response as she examined him. “I just don’t want to die.” Breathing out quietly, she shifted to stand up, ducking her head a bit as she followed after him.

Sam’s expression softened as he watched her for a few moments. “I won’t let you get murdered, I promise,” he told her quietly, swearing to himself that he’d do everything he could to protect her. “Just stay by me, I’ll keep you safe.” Offering a small smile, he shifted to stand up and offered his hand out to help her up.

Dean heard Vale's words, his own heart sinking in his chest. He stopped for a moment, turning to look at Vale, placing his hands on her shoulders. "Vale, you gotta listen to me right now, okay?" He asked. "I will never, ever, let anything hurt you there." He promised. "I'd kill whatever tried." He told her honestly. "You just gotta trust me. Can you do that for me?"

Allie took Sam's offered hand, feeling a surge of comfort rush through her, finding it overwhelming, almost. Still, Allie blinked, nodding with Sam's words. "Thank you, Sam." She told him, her voice quiet still, everything in her just wanting this awful night to end.

Vale paused with surprise, staring at Dean as she listened to his words, surprised that the feeling of his hands on her shoulders brought a sense of comfort that she wasn’t familiar with. Processing his words, she examined him for a few moments. “Yeah,” she murmured eventually, nodding, “Yeah, I can trust you.” And she was surprised with how much she meant it.

Sam smiled slightly, watching her, and, in hopes of comforting her even a little further, he gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “You don’t have to thank me,” he assured her quietly as he took her in, nodding slowly. “You’ll be safe, I promise. You’re gonna come out of this just fine, I’ll make sure of it.” He was determined to ensure that much for her; she deserved to be able to go on with her life after this, she deserved to live.

Dean nodded, studying Vale's face carefully for any signs of apprehension, but when he saw nothing but defiance, he couldn't help but feel his chest flutter with something unfamiliar, something he was sure he'd only felt once, and that ship had long since sailed. It was adoration; and Dean didn't understand how he could feel something so strongly for someone he barely knew. "Alright," Dean nodded. "I'll just go grab my partner, and we can get going." Dean offered Vale his arm, to link hers through, wanting to provide her safety.

Allie felt the gentle squeeze that Sam offered her hand, and she felt her shoulders relax a little bit, something in the back of her mind telling her to believe Sam when he promised that she would be safe with him. Pursing her lips into a thin line, Allie nodded, keeping hold of Sam's hand, because she was sure she could feel a small surge of electricity from his palm to hers, and Allie was unsure of how that could happen so quickly, an attraction that couldn't be denied.

Vale watched Dean for a few moments, but she offered a small nod, moving to stand before she made her way over to him, debating for a moment before she slid her arm through his. She felt an immediate sense of calm and comfort rush through her, some part of her knowing that she could trust this man, always, and she chewed on her lip with the thought and motioned. “Let’s go, then,” she said quietly.

Sam smiled slightly, relieved to feel her take his hand, though he felt something more, some sense of belonging, as if their hands were meant to clasp hold of each other, like she was meant to be at his side. And, as he watched her, some part of him believed that thought more than anything else in the world. Still, he nodded, giving her hand a squeeze. “Let’s get out of here,” he told her softly before he led the way out of the room to go find Dean.

Dean watched Vale closely, because it had been a traumatising twenty four hours, and he didn't want to upset her any further. "You do know, Vale, I'm not gonna let anything hurt you, right?" Dean asked, and he would do anything to make sure that he kept that promise. There were things she didn't know of, but things she could find out about, and Dean swore he'd protect her from them all. Placing his hand on top of hers, Dean led her out of the office, nodding at Sam. "Our car is in the lot, it's a black Impala." Dean smiled, hoping the car would start a conversation.

Allie paused for a moment as the warmth of Sam's hand enveloped her own, and looking up to him, Allie offered a small smile, knowing that she was safe with him, amazed at how he provided a sense of home. Interlocking their fingers, Allie was surprised at just how perfectly they fit, as if he was crafted with her in mind. As Sam lead the way, Allie stayed quiet, the whole experience having shaken her. "I'm a little scared..."

Vale looked over to Dean, blinking with surprise, though she could admit she was a little unsure of what to think. The one thing she found herself certain of, though, was that she could trust Dean, so she found herself offering a small nod in response to his words. “Okay,” she murmured as she followed him, though she blinked. “You have an Impala?”

Sam found himself mildly surprised to feel Allie interlocking their fingers, hers through his, but he could admit that something about it felt so very right. He didn’t allow himself to say this aloud, though, and he offered a small smile instead, hoping to comfort her after hearing her words. “I won’t let anything hurt you,” he promised, watching her as they walked, “You’ll be safe, I promise.”
