Cassander Mars, when amused at what he deems idiocy, laughs loudly, condescendingly. Heir to the throne, he had been subjected to extensive schooling upon subjects that escaped the usual commoner. The boy Cassander laughed at simply shrugged, embarrassed as expected, but also in awe - in awe of untapped knowledge, of things and ideas of which the poor boy had no conception. Cassander covered his mouth with his fingertips, a gesture to demonstrate apology. "To answer, sky and air then follow the same to your cloth, to this floor. The same in this way yet upon another story, for there is of course difference. It is not empty! Energies and waves and the followed form of the sky..." Cassander trailed off, for the boy was pulled aside by an older woman. She scolded the boy, glanced warily at Cassander.
Cassander sighed as they both bowed their heads and went off. He hoped that he hadn't somehow ruined their visit to the royal gardens, as that was the opposite of his duties here. He was so exhausted with his routines that he was beginning to dream of being born a peasant, for their freedom was as enchanting to him as he supposed his wealth was to them. It was in that moment a strange noise prompted him to spin upon his heels. Instantly he strode into the trees in the direction of the bizarre sound.
For a long moment, he stood in the trees, but no second sound was produced. Slightly disappointed, he resolved to tell his favorite groundskeeper about it and turned back. After walking for some time, Cassander became worried that he'd turned wrong somehow, for he was certain that now he should've been upon familiar grounds again.
The trees abruptly gave way to a slim, flat, grey path, the likes of which Cassander had only seen in one place before - the forbidden books. His breath caught in his throat, and he knelt, brushing his fingertips against the wildly unnatural surface. He had been told that all such things were long since gone and so his head reeled to find an explanation for the existence of this path, and so close to the royal grounds! How it had not been discovered until now was unfathomable. Cassander's legs trembled, almost with fear. The forbidden books held stories and worlds that were so violent, rash, and sad - he somehow felt this distress of history through the weird form in front of him. Slowly he stood, deciding to see where this path would lead.
