Finley Jennet Moore laid in her bed one morning, staring at the ceiling. She counted the stripes on her quilt, murmuring the numbers to herself. “33… 34...35… 36…” Once she was finished she squeezed her eyes shut, recalling what everyone at school called her. “Freak”, “loon”, and “nutcase” were a few, and having severe OCD only allowed the list of names she was called to grow. Her mother came upstairs and knocked on the door, reminding her that the school bus would be at the bus stop in ten minutes, and that she needed to get up and get dressed, before her mother went back downstairs, grabbed her suitcase and went out to the waiting cab to head to the airport and back to her husband and other children.

Finley reluctantly rolled out of bed once her mother was gone, changing out of her pajamas and into a simple striped tshirt and jeans, pulling a cardigan on as she grabbed her backpack and went downstairs, tying her shoes before she headed out of the house, making sure to lock up before she headed to the bus stop at the end of the street, counting the cracks in the pavement as she went.

Danny walked into the school with his backpack on his back and his eyes scanned the hallway. He actually liked coming to school. He liked school because he was popular and everyone loved him. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to be someone that nobody liked. Danny put stuff in his locker, looking over as his friend when he appeared beside of him. "Hey man." He said as he shut his locker. Danny stood there and talked with his friend, then turned to walk away and slammed right into a girl, hearing her gasp. He watched as she hit the floor, "Oh shit." He said, moving to help her up, noticing it was the girl from his one biology class. Finley? He was sure that was her name. She kind of just blended in and didn't talk much.

"Way to get in the way loser." Monica said as she crossed her arms. She was one of the cheerleaders that had a tendency to pick on Finley.

Danny rolled his eyes, "Shut up Mon." He said. He looked at FInley, "Are you okay?" He asked as he helped her up. Danny was one of the popular guys but he was also one of the nicer people. He had moments when he would be a dick, but for the most part he was a good person. He picked up her stuff and handed it to her.

Lennox smiled as she finished her mixed drink that was in her hand. She had only had one drink so far, but it was clear that the people around her were way ahead of her. She looked at her friend Brooke, "I will be back I need some air." She said. She had never been a big fan of the parties that Marcus had because there was so many people. She liked to come hang out with her friends though. Lennox sighed as Brooke went back to hitting on one of the guys before she made her way through the crowd of people. Lennox stepped outside on the back patio, seeing that there was people out by the pool as well, but it wasn't as cluttered. She sat down on one of the benches and pulled out her phone, seeing a text from her mom. Her mom just assumed she was staying with Brooke so she wasn't surprised that she was checking in. She answered the text then ran her fingers through her blonde hair. Lennox wanted to enjoy the silence because she knew it wouldn't be long before her friends came to find her. She was pretty popular and she had a great life, but sometimes she felt like everything was just kind of a blur. She was surprised when a group of guys came out carrying on and she frowned when one of the guys was shoved in her direction and almost fell on her. She put her hands out to stop his body, realizing who it was. Oliver Watkins and his crew. Johnny, Ryan and Luke. Everyone pretty much avoided them because they always got into fights and caused problems. Just that week Oliver had punch Aaron, the captain of the football teem in front of her and Brooke in the hallway. She looked at Oliver as he straightened up and his eyes looked at her. She felt like he was looking right through her. "You have a problem?" She asked, her attitude coming out because she didn't like when people stared at her. She could smell the smoke on him and it made her aware of how close he was to her.

Johnny smirked and sat beside of her, "Well look who it is....Lennox Jackson..all alone." He teased her. "What your friends off whoring around and left you behind?" He joked, laughing.

Lennox glared at him, "That would be more than what you are getting right?" She snapped back.
"Oh snap." Luke said, laughing with Ryan and Oliver as he lit a cigarette.

Finley was hurrying through the hall, trying to get to her locker without causing any trouble, but had gotten caught up counting the different colored tiles on the floor when she suddenly collided with Danny. She tumbled back, landing on her butt with a little "oof," looking up at him with wide eyes.

Whens she realized who he was she quickly began to collect the papers and books she had dropped, casting a nervous glance over at Monica when she spoke before glancing back between Danny and his friends, standing slowly. She gave a little nod when he asked if she was ok, taking her things from him quickly. She recognized him from one of her classes, but also knew that he was a football player, and all of the football players and cheerleaders were awful to her, so she expected the same from him.

"I-I'm sorry.. I-I'll be more careful.." she murmured softly before hurrying off to class as the bell rang, taking her usual seat near the front.

Oliver had been out with his buddies, and had had a couple of beers by the time they had decided to show up at the party. He had made some comment about Luke's mom, which had resulted in him being shoved, and he barely managed to catch himself from falling onto some poor girl. When he collected himself and realized who it was he'd nearly squished he grinned sheepishly, running his fingers through his dark hair as he stepped back to stand with his friends, muttering a quiet apology.

"No problem, Lennox. Just didn't expect to see you here." He said simply, shrugging a little as he turned to Ryan, wanting a drag of his cigarette. Oliver laughed, a happy and carefree laugh as Lennox insulted Johnny, patting his buddy on the back in mock comfort. "It's alright, bud. One day, some girl will pity you enough to sleep with you. But that day isn't today."

Danny was surprised when she apoligized to him even though he had walked into her. He sighed as one of his friends said something about her being a nerd. "Dude shut up." He muttered as he grabbed his bag and walked with them towards his first class. He sat down with his friends, seeing Finley in her usual seat. He watched her for a moment before he got his book out for class. He had never really noticed her and he wondered just how awful his friends really were to her. He had heard them talk about being mean to her, but he never really paid attention to their conversation. Danny looked at his pencil as the teacher began to talk about the class and that they were going to be starting a project. He didn't want to do a project, but he did have to keep his grades up. The class groaned when the teacher said they would be drawing names for partners. Danny pulled a piece a paper from a bowl that the teacher offered him when it came to his turn and he opened the paper, seeing Finley's name on it. "Finley." He said when the teacher told him to read it out loud and he was surprised that his friend laughed next to him. Danny rolled his eyes at his friend.

Lennox watched as Johnny got up and pushed Oliver again. "Shut the fuck up dude." He snapped. Lennox watched at Johnny looked at her again, "Though if you have free time I won't complain." He said.

Lennox laughed out loud, "Oh yea right." She teased, laughing, "In your dreams loser." She said as she got up, going to leave them. She frowned when Johnny stopped her.

Johnny looked at her, "You know it gets really annoying when you and your friends pretend like you are better than everyone else." He said, glaring.

Lennox looked at him, knowing all the guys near her were taller than her. "Who says we are pretending?" She snapped back, glaring back at him. Most of her friends would have just avoided the situation, but Lennox took up for herself and didn't back down from arguments.

Johnny frowned, "You think you are better than me bitch?" He asked.

Ryan shook his head, "Johnny knock it off." He said as he watched his friend move closer to the girl. He knew that Oliver and Luke didn't like the vibe that Johnny was giving off either.

Lennox crossed her arms, "I didn't say that..you did." She said, seeing his neck get red with anger.

Finley sat silently through class as she always did, either taking neat and tidy notes in her notebook or skimming through the textbook she kept open on her desk. When the teacher mentioned a group project she tensed, knowing that no matter who she was paired with it wouldn't end well for her.

When Danny called her name as his partner she frowned, glancing over at him a bit nervously before she turned away and ducked her head down, flinching as a few kids at the back threw crumpled up pieces of paper and a half empty water bottle in her direction. The teacher halfheartedly scolded them, before returning to the lesson, not really caring about the bullying that took place, as it was so rampant that it was impossible to stop.

Finley remained silent for the rest of class, remaining in her seat even after the bell had rung signalling the end of class, waiting for everyone to leave before she did, hurrying to her locker to exchange her books. The thought of a group project made her feel nauseous, and because she wasn't focusing, she didn't notice until it was too late, when a cheerleader walking by her locker slammed the door on her hand, crushing her fingers.

Oliver stumbled back with a laugh, but as he realized that Johnny wasn't joking around anymore, he grew more serious, glancing at Ryan and Luke to make sure he would back him up. As much as he hated when Lennox and her friends acted better than them at school, he knew that whatever Johnny was planning to do wasn't the answer.

He stepped forward, grabbing Johnny's shoulder to pull him back away from Lennox. "Hey, knock it off. I think she gets the point. Let's go get some more beer, yeah?" He offered, glancing over at Lennox to make sure she was alright.

Danny walked out of his class and went to his locker, getting the stuff he needed for his next class. He wanted to find Finley and ask about where she wanted to work on the project. He ended up finding her right after she was hurt. "Hey." He said, frowning when she jumped. "Are you okay?" He asked, glancing around them. He looked back at her, "I was just wondering when you wanted to work on his project." He said. "We could work at my place if you want." He offered. He didn't know if she would be okay with that, but he was hoping that she would be. "I have practice after school everyday but I get done around five if that is okay with you." He explained. He could tell that people were staring at them and he really didn't care. He just thought it was annoying that they were such assholes to her.

Lennox watched as Oliver got Johnny to back down and frowned as Aaron opened the back door at about the same time. "Awesome." She muttered, seeing Oliver and his friend glare at him. They had all hated each other for years now.
Aaron looked at Lennox then at the guys, "These dumbasses bothering you Len?" He asked, glaring at Oliver and his friends.
Lennox sighed, "No everything is just peachy." She said, turning to him and smiling. "Now lets go." She said, grabbing Aaron's arm. She looked at him when he didn't budge. "Aaron! I said let's go." She snapped before she pulled him away.
Aaron flipped off Oliver then chuckled as he walked away with Lennox.

Finley was cradling her injured hand, trying to fight back tears as she tried to finish putting her books away. She glanced over at Danny with a small frown when he walked over and started talking about the project, shaking her head a little as she glanced around at all of the other people staring at them.

"N-No... It's fine.. I-I can do the project by myself, and then send it to you to look over before it's due.. It's fine, I've done this kind of stuff before.." She murmured, recalling the time she had been paired with Monica for a group project in English class, frowning at the memory. "Don't worry about it.." She murmured, grabbing a tissue from her locker to dab at her fingers, some of which were cut from the force of the locker being shut on her hand, bruises already starting to form on her swollen fingers.

Oliver was about to apologize to Lennox for Johnny's behavior when Aaron came out, causing the dark haired man to frown, glaring slightly at Aaron. "Come on guys, let's get out of here. This party is lame anyway." He mumbled, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jacket as he left the party with his buddies, but not before they knocked a chair or two into the pool for good measure.

Danny frowned when she said she was going to do it by herself, "No you aren't going to do it by yourself." He said. "I have no problem helping you." He said. He noticed her hand, then grabbed her wrist, "What happened?" He asked. "You need to go to the nurse this looks really bad." He said, looking at her. "Come on, I will take you." He said, not giving her the option. He walked with her through the hallway and went to the nurse with her, "So I will see you this evening?" He asked her. He knew most people took advantage of her, but he wasn't about to do that to her.

That Monday, Lennox walked into school with her friends, smiling as she made her way to her locker. Everyone was talking about the party over the weekend. Lennox put her stuff in her locker and thought about everything that happened. She couldn't seem to get her run in with Oliver out of her mind. She was glad that he stopped Johnny when he did and she didn't expect him to do that.

Finley frowned as he dragged her to the nurse, trying to protest, but fell silent once she got to the nurse's office, quietly mumbling something about accidentally shutting her locker on her hand when she wasn't paying attention, taking the blame even though it hadn't been her fault.

She frowned when he asked her if he would see her that evening, nodding a little. "I suppose... But I don't know where you live.." She murmured softly, wincing as the nurse examined her hand.

Oliver made his way through the halls with his friends, chatting with Ryan about some class or another. He stopped at his locker to grab his things, frowning a bit when he noticed Lennox nearby. When he noticed she was alone for a moment, he cleared his throat a bit to get her attention, pretending to be busy looking through his locker.

"Hey... I just wanted to apologize for Johnny.. He's an ass."

Danny smiled when she said that she didn't know where he lived. He wrote down his address and cellphone number, then handed her the piece of paper. Danny smirked, "Now you do." He said. "You can text me if you have a problem finding it." He told. Her looked over as the nurse came back and began to clean the cut that was on her fingers. He knew her hurting her hand had not been an accident. He turned his head to look at her when the nurse walked away again. "Why did you lie?" He asked her. "Clearly you didn't do that to yourself." He said.

Lennox was surprised when Oliver spoke to her. She was pretty sure he had spoken to her like two times in their whole high school career. Though she vaguely remembered sharing some cookies with him in elementary school. She shut her locker, "It's okay. I just assume that is how he always acts." She said. "Thanks for saying something to him though." She said. Lennox frowned as Aaron approached them.
"Seriously asshole leave her alone." He said, glaring at Oliver, before he shoved him into the locker. They were pretty well matched in size.
Lennox frowned, "Knock it off Aaron." She said, glaring at the guy and his friends that were with him. She frowned as the two began to argue.

Finley frowned, staring down at her lap guiltily while he spoke, shrugging her shoulder slightly. "They won't do anything either way.. Why bother telling the truth?" She murmured, thanking the nurse once she came back with some pain medicine and a note excusing her for the day, the nurse insisting that she go get x-rays to make sure that the bones weren't broken.

Finley carefully took the paper from him, reading the numbers over and over again to memorize it, placing the paper in her pocket as she nodded a little. "Alright.."

Oliver offered her a little smile, about to say something more when Aaron shoved him into the locker, wincing as he turned to face Aaron with a glare. "Seems to me you're the asshole. I wasn't bothering her, just asking about school stuff." He lied easily, smirking faintly as he looked at Aaron. "You know, school? Like reading and writing? I know that's pretty advanced for you, but I'm sure once you get your head out of your ass you'll be able to do just fine."

Danny frowned at her words, "How do you know that? I am sure they would do something about it." He said, getting quiet when the nurse returned. He looked at Finley when they were alone again. "Do you have a way to get to the hospital?" He asked her. He didn't know much about her life. He noticed that she was just staring at her paper, "Hello." He said, moving his hand in front of her face to snap her out of her little trance she appeared to be in. He smirked as she looked at him.

Aaron frowned at Oliver, "How about you shut the fuck up?" He snapped as he shoved Oliver again. "You don't really have room to talk seeing as the most you will amount to is a mechanic that works on my car in the future." He joked. "You'll be insignificant in a few years." He told him.

Lennox frowned as Oliver became enraged as Aaron did as well. "Knock it off." she said, moving between them. "Can you two quit with the pissing contest?" She said, looking between them.

Aaron looked at Lennox, "Are you seriously defending this dick?" He asked her.

Lennox looked at him, "Well we wouldn't be here right now if you would have just kept your mouth shut." She said to him, frowning as Aaron glared at her and walked off. She sighed and looked at Oliver. "Sorry." She said. She knew her friends were assholes.

"I've tried.. They don't listen.." Finley murmured, lost in thought as she stared at the paper. She frowned as he waved his hand in front of her face, looking up at him worriedly, expecting him to say something rude based on the smirk on his face. She shook her head a little when he repeated his question, grabbing her backpack and pulling it onto her shoulders. "I-I can walk... I can count the oak trees on the way there." She murmured softly, thanking the nurse once more before heading out of the office, wondering why he kept asking questions.

Oliver glared at Aaron, mumbling something nasty under his breath as Lennox intervened, frowning down at her. He shrugged a little at her apology, turning back to his locker. Not that any of the jocks knew it, but Oliver was at the top of their class, with all As and top scores in advanced courses, his guidance counselor looking forward to seeing what universities he was accepted to. He just liked to pass as an idiot, and chose to hang out with guys like Ryan and Johnny for fun, and they were some of his oldest friends.

"It's fine. I forgive your boy toy and his big mouth. I know he has to rattle off bullshit to compensate for the size of his dick."

Danny frowned as she walked away then walked after her, "I could take you." He said as he caught up to her. He looked at her, holding up his car keys. "I don't like my afternoon classes anyway." He joked. "You shouldn't walk all that way alone with your hand like that." He added. He felt bad that his friends had done that to her and that he couldn't do anything to help her. He wanted to make her realize that she wasn't just a target for everyone.

Lennox frowned, "He is not my boy toy." She said, crossing her arms. "Besides i'm pretty sure you were the one who punched him last week." She told him. She looked over as Ryan and Luke came walking towards them. "I have to go." She said. She shut her locker then walked away from him and walked with two of her friends to her class. She sat down at her desk and pulled out her notebook and got ready for the class to start.

Ryan looked at Oliver, "What were you talking to Lennox for?" He asked him. "You trying to fuck her?" He teased his friend, chuckling with Luke.

Luke took a swig of his water, "I don't blame you." He said. "She is so hot." He said, smirking.

Finley frowned as she looked up at him, glancing around the empty hallway nervously. She wasn't sure about him, but she didn't particularly want to walk all the way across town to the hospital, especially since she didn't have a jacket and it was rather cold today. "A-Alright.. I guess.." She relented, fidgeting with the sleeves of her cardigan nervously.

Oliver rolled his eyes a little when he mentioned the punch, recalling that Aaron had said something awful about his little sister, who had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. How Aaron had found out, he had no idea, not even Ryan and Luke knew, but he what Aaron had said about her was unforgivable, and he'd deserved that punch.

He huffed when Ryan and Luke started berating him about Lennox, shaking his head. "Ew, Luke. Keep it in your pants. I was just asking her about an English assignment."

Danny smiled, "Alright, let's go." He said. He walked with her to his car, unlocking the doors before he got in with her. He started the car, then headed towards the hospital, "So what is with the counting?" He asked her finally. He had noticed she had quite the obsession with numbers. Danny focused on the road as he waited for her to answer. He was glad she agreed to let him drive her to the hospital.

Ryan chuckled, "Did you just say ew?" He teased him. "I knew your eye sight was going bad." He joked as they walked down the hallway.

Lennox sat in her English class that afternoon and stared down at her notebook. The teacher had asked them to do some free writing while she stepped out of the room. Lennox usually took this time to write out her thoughts on how everyone annoyed her because noone read the entries anyway. Lennox stared at the paragraph on her notebook, hearing a few people whispering around the room. She glanced over, seeing Oliver looking at her. Lennox looked away, frowning as Aaron said something to her and went to touch her notebook. She smacked his hand away and shut it. "Would you fucking stop?" She said, frowning as he muttered bitch under his breath. She glared at him then grabbed her book and hit him in the head with it, drawing attention to them, "Say it again asshole." She threatened him, her friend Brooke laughing.

Finley sat in the passenger seat, resting her backpack in her lap, fiddling with the straps anxiously as he drove, counting the trees they passed as she looked out the window. She frowned when he asked about the counting, glancing over at him. "I-I have OCD... I can't help it.." She murmured softly, chewing on her lip as she looked away.

Oliver rolled his eyes at his friends before heading off to class.

In English, Oliver sat in his usual seat near the back, taking the time to make some lists of things he needed to do at home, even writing a poem for his sister, which he knew she loved. At some point, while thinking, his eyes wandered around the room, pausing when he noticed Lennox looking at him. He blinked a little in surprise before waving slightly, although upon watching him hit Aaron over the head with her book he couldn't help but let out a laugh, and even though he wasn't the only one who laughed, his laugh was definitely the loudest.

Danny nodded, "Oh, I kind of thought that was what it was." He teased her. He pulled up to the hospital and walked with her into the hospital. "Do you just want for me to wait for you?" He asked, looking down at her. Danny crossed his arms as he looked at her and waited for her to sign herself in.

Lennox frowned as Aaron quit talking and crossed his arms. Lennox got up when the bell rang and gathered her things. She was just glad the day was over. Some days she hated the people she was friends with. She went to her locker and got her bag with her cheerleading stuff in it. Lennox sighed as she fixed her hair in the mirror that was in the locker. She rolled her eyes as Brooke said something about her hitting Aaron. "Well he is an asshole and needs to leave people alone." She muttered as she shut her locker. She noticed Johnny, Ryan and Oliver, looking at them. "What?" She asked them. She was feeling pretty moody that day.

Finley frowned a little, walking nervously into the hospital, eyes darting around as she took everything in. While she appreciated the order and cleanliness of the hospital, her parents had locked her up in a mental hospital for a few years when she was younger, and hospitals had scared her ever since. "Um... I-I don't... I don't know.." Was all she could manage, swallowing nervously as she wrote her name down on the sign in sheet, trying to keep her hand from shaking, knowing it would just give away her nerves.

Oliver was standing by his locker once again, looking through his things, while Ryan and Johnny were talking about something. When Lennox addressed them, he looked up at her, holding his hands up defensively as he shrugged his shoulders, giving her a look as if to say "Whatever they're talking about, I have nothing to do with it."
