Cornelius happily joined her in the carriage, grinning as her hand found his thigh, his arms snaking around her waist to practically pull her into his lap. While he briefly thought about Serafina and Tobias, but the beautiful woman in his arms quickly brought his thoughts back to the moment, and he grinned at her in the darkness of the carriage. Hollis frowned as she listened to her husband speak, looking out the window of his study, where she could see the fires burning in the distance. She turned back to him after a moment, eyes searching his for a long moment before she eventually spoke. "I don't have anything to do with this. I haven't spoken to my family or left the palace in years. I didn't do this." Her voice trembled a little as she spoke, and she looked like she might cry, but it wasn't sadness that was making her emotional, it was anger.
After everything he had put her through, she couldn't believe that he was now about to accuse her of conspiring with the rebels, of being a traitor.
