When I am alone, I see you in the dark
I talk into the empty like you were with me
Started on a cold night, felt you in the low light
Noticing a reflex taking over me
I see you, and I reach
    Muscle memory

Calum looked out the airplane window as it was landing and he could feel excitement and nervousness bubbling up in him. He'd left a few hints to what he'd been up to all over social media, dropping nods at his plan to ask Molly to marry him without outright saying it, wanting it to be a surprise for her. His hand moved to his jacket pocket, his fingers curling around the box the ring was in. He'd searched in every city the band had toured in, searching for the perfect ring - it'd been hard the first several months, because Molly had been with them, but she'd gone back a month prior to deal with something in her family, so it'd given him freedom to search, and he'd actually found the ring he was sure Molly would fall in love with. Hearing the announcement that they could leave the plane, Calum grinned, standing quickly to exit, eager to get to Molly, but he knew he'd have to find the right time to ask her, and he intended to make sure he made the right moment happen. He hadn't told her he was coming home today, so he hoped he could start this plan out right.

Ainsley had just finished eating and had fed Petunia a little earlier before eating food herself. At the moment, she and Petunia were curled up on the bed together, Ainsley stroking the dog's fur fondly. She knew Petunia was missing Luke as much as she was, and that neither of them could wait for him to get home, though she'd heard no news of when that would be. Regardless, she looked to her phone, smiling at the sight of Luke and Petunia on her lockscreen before she scanned through social media. She'd noticed odd posts on Luke's social media accounts the past few days, but she didn't really question them, figuring he was just being his usual dorky self and she shifted, taking a picture of herself and Petunia cuddling before sending it to Luke. Petunia's stealing all the cuddles! We miss you, though.

Molly hummed quietly as she moved around the kitchen in the home she and Calum shared. The most amazing thing about the house was that Molly came to know it's layout like the back of her hand, and the only thing missing from making it a perfect Thursday afternoon was Calum's presence - although Calum had been acting a little weird recently, posting cryptic messages onto his Twitter, but she figured it was either a dare from the boys or just Calum being his usual, goofy self. Smiling with the thought, Molly wiped her hands on her jeans, not wanting to dirty Calum's t-shirt; which she was wearing, Molly looked to Duke as he whined for some scraps, and she bit her lip, gently ripping a piece of cookie dough from the batch she was about to put in the oven to offer to him, ensuring it had no chocolate chips. "Just don't tell Daddy when he calls later." She winked.

Luke stood to his feet as the flight attendant informed everyone they could start leaving the plane, and as excited he was to finally be home, he couldn't ignore the bubble of anxiety that seemed to form in his stomach. He'd been thinking of this day for so long, and now it was actually here, Luke felt like his heart was about to burst from his chest - in the best and worst way. Ainsley, since the day Luke had even met her, had always been the one Luke knew he was going to spend the rest of his life with, so when he began thinking about proposing a few months ago, he decided that, fuck it, why wait any longer? In every city they visited, Luke would search for the perfect ring, and it was difficult at first because Ainsley was always right beside him and Luke didn't want to give anything about his plans away. When she left tour to sort out family business, Luke looked more frequently, and he finally found the perfect one in a small town in Florida. At the thought, Luke's hand slipped into his pocket, smiling as he felt the box there. He hadn't told Ainsley he was coming home today, but Luke had a plan, and he wanted it to go as smoothly as he could. Feeling his phone vibrate in his other pocket, Luke fished it out and grinned to himself with the photo of Ainsley and Petunia. Look at my girls! God, I can't wait to come home. I miss you both so much (you a little more than Piggy).

Calum headed out to get his things, calling up an Uber on the way, feeling his excitement bubble up within him. Smiling to himself, he decided he’d stop and get Molly a bouquet, as an apology for not telling her he was coming home, but also because he wanted to make sure his plan went through well. While he felt nervous about it, the excitement that he was finally going to ask her the question that’d been on his mind for so long had him a little impatient. Grabbing his things, he waved bye to his friends - he hadn’t told any of them his plans, though he knew they’d caught him looking at rings more than once - and headed out when he was notified his Uber was there. Climbing in, he let the Uber take him to a flower shop but he called Molly on the way, just wanting to hear her voice. While he was glad that he’d managed to find the perfect ring when she’d gotten busy, he still wished that he had had her by his side the whole time, always missing her there with him, always wishing he was sleeping next to her.

Ainsley grinned, enjoying the cuddles she was receiving from Petunia, making a face when Petunia licked her face, though she laughed. “I know, I know, you’re giving me all the love because Daddy’s not here to steal it,” she teased lightly, kissing the top of Petunia’s head before she heard her phone go off with a notification. Looking at it, she grinned with the reply and rolled her eyes before taking a picture of Petunia to send to Luke quickly. I don’t think that’s possible, babe! Just look at that face, how can you miss anything more than that? We miss you, too, though, so much. It’s so quiet without you being loud and obnoxious ;D She sent the text before breathing out a sigh; the house really wasn’t the same without Luke there, but at least she had Petunia to keep her company - and at least Luke had the guys to keep him company, so it wasn’t like either of them were alone, even if things felt lonely.

Molly looked up as her phone began to ring, smiling at Duke. "Right on time, your Daddy is such a superhero." she laughed, gently petting the dog before grabbing her phone, answering it with a smile. "Calum, baby, hi!" She grinned, putting the tray of cookies in the oven and setting the timer, excited to hear her boyfriend's voice. "How's tour going?" She asked happily, just excited to hear his voice as she sat on a stool that belonged to the breakfast bar, playing with the hem of his t-shirt. "Me and Duke miss you." She spoke softly then.

Luke waved goodbye to the remaining members of 5 Seconds of Summer as he went to collect his luggage, having already ordered an Uber. As he waited for the carousel to do another turn, Luke looked down as his phone vibrated, and he smiled as he saw Ainsley's name on his screen - even if his lock screen was a photo of Ainsley and Petunia cuddling. Opening the text though, Luke couldn't help but grin, grabbing his bags as they came around, keeping his head down to text Ainsley back eagerly. I can't kiss Petunia though! And she farts all the time. So I miss you a lot more <3 Still, Luke grinned as she called him obnoxious. You love me, babe, don't deny it! He was distracted though, as another notification popped up, explaining his Uber was outside. Exiting the airport, Luke could feel the excitement bubble up within his chest at the fact he wasn't that far from seeing Ainsley. Asking the driver to stop by Ainsley's favourite coffee shop, Luke grinned, forming a little plan in his head to surprise her.

Calum couldn’t help the grin that formed on his features when he heard Molly’s voice. “Hey, babe,” he greeted happily, absolutely loving hearing her voice, swearing no sound could ever possibly sound sweeter. “It’s going good. How did everything go with your family?” He chewed on his lip, hoping that everything was okay now, but also hopeful that the time since returning home had been kind to her, because she deserved all the good in the world. As the Uber came to a stop outside the floral shop, he nodded in thanks, silently motioning for them to stick around before he climbed out and headed into the store to find a bouquet of Molly’s favorite flowers, but still staying on the phone with her. He smiled, though, with hearing her words, his heart swelling. “I miss you both as well,” he told her quietly, genuinely, “You especially, more than anything. I can’t wait to get home and have you in my arms, honestly.”

Ainsley ran her fingers along Petunia’s fur, relaxing with the dog while she could, knowing she’d have to get up soon to fix something to eat but, for now, she just wanted to relax with Petunia while she texted Luke, and she smiled when she got another text from him, rolling her eyes with amusement. I miss you, too, and I definitely love you, but come on, Petunia is perfection! Shifting a bit, she sat up and got a movie ready on the TV so that she could watch it after cooking before she climbed off the bed to go downstairs to find something to cook. Petunia followed her and Ainsley grinned, making sure to grab something edible to give to the dog before she focused on finding something to eat for herself, figuring she could probably cook spaghetti or something.

Molly listened intently to Calum's voice, having missed it more than anything. Of course, Molly had videos on her phone of the two of them messing around on Snapchat, or singing along in the car, but it was never the same, no matter how much she watched those videos when she was missing Calum. "It's all better now," she told Calum with a smile, hearing the slight anxiety in his voice. "It's all fixed, don't worry." She told him, checking on the cookies. "I'm glad to hear that tour's going good though, baby. I can't wait for it to be over." She told him honestly, having no qualms in admitting her selfish request. Hearing him though, Molly smiled. "It won't be long, honey." She told him with a smile. "Duke's trying to steal the cookies I'm baking, so I think as long as he's fed, he's happy. As for me? I miss sleeping beside you." She pouted.

Luke grinned as the Uber stopped outside of Ainsley's favourite coffee shop, and telling the driver to wait a moment, Luke climbed out, making his way inside, focused on his phone as he wondered what Ainsley was doing with her afternoon. Luke had missed her so much, and knowing he wasn't too far from seeing her sent relief coursing through his veins. Luke put in an order - a large Caramel macchiato and a gingerbread cookie, paying and waiting patiently, Luke felt his phone vibrate and smiled down at his lockscreen - a photo of Ainsley and Petunia, before unlocking his phone and reading Ainsley's text, grinning. Petunia's pretty cute, but I'd rather kiss you than her. And I might love you a little more because you give the best damn hugs, and I get to spend the rest of my life with you. Luke hoped he didn't give too much away with that text, but it was something he and Ainsley said all the time, so it shouldn't come off too suspicious. Making his way back to the Uber, Luke bit his lip as the driver began to make the short journey to Luke and Ainsley's shared home, and Luke shifted with excitement.

Calum smiled slightly, relaxing when he heard Molly’s assurances. Silently, he’d motioned to the flowers he wanted while he spoke to Molly. “I’m really glad to hear that, baby,” he told her honestly, his anxieties dissipating with knowing that everything had gone alright. After paying for the bouquet once he received it, he headed out and climbed back into the Uber while he continued speaking to the woman he loved with everything in him. “I know what you mean. I can’t wait to get home and see you, to hold you in my arms.” He grinned with the thought, his heart swelling with the fact that he was so close to surprising Molly, that he was so close to seeing her again, and he absolutely couldn’t wait. He chuckled, though, as he listened to her. “Oh, you’re making cookies? What kind?” He arched a brow in curiosity, but his expression softened as he listened to her. “I miss sleeping beside you, too. I’ll be home before you know it.” And, really, he absolutely meant that, causing him to grin with the thought.

Ainsley had gathered out what she’d need to make herself a meal and had even went ahead to feed Petunia a dog treat with a “You spoiled little sweetheart.” Grinning with the thought, she had moved back to everything she’d gathered out before realizing she had a text from Luke and, peering down at her phone, she grinned as her eyes ran over the text. You’ve made a point there, I’ll give you that. But, come on, Petunia deserves to be cherished! And she hadn’t thought too much into his text, aware they often commented on spending their future together, but the thought still made her heart swell nonetheless. Refocusing, she got to work on cooking, though she made sure not to stay too distracted from her phone, because she didn’t want to miss a moment of talking to the man she loved.

Molly smiled as she heard Calum's words, hearing the sincerity behind them and thanking every higher power that existed that Calum was hers. "All thanks to you for keeping my head on my shoulders." She laughed, stroking behind Duke's ears with her words. Molly reached to get a plate, smiling as she listened to Calum's words, just appreciating the sound of his voice. "I can't wait either, baby. God, we need a movie night so bad." She complained with a pout. "Our bed feels too big and too empty without you." She admitted quietly, but when Calum asked about the cookies, Molly perked up slightly. "Oh! Peanut butter, chocolate chip." She grinned. "I needed something sweet so I went to the store for a bar of chocolate, and I thought that, you know, a few dozen cookies would last a lot better than Reese's Pieces." She teased. "I can't wait, babe." She sighed a little with that. "I don't know, since I left tour, time's just gone so slowly. What the hell am I meant to do when my better half is another country away?"

Luke climbed out of his Uber with a quick thank you to the driver, promising to give him a five star rating on the app. Grabbing his luggage, Luke thanked him again, making sure that he didn't shut the car door too harshly. Wanting to keep up his facade, Luke, with heart pounding erratically in his chest, read Ainsley's text, feeling excitement run through him, as if he was about to skydive. Luke decided, this was the best kind of love. She does, but what happens if we have a baby one day, Ains? Would she be jealous?! And Luke grinned with the thought, because dammit, his plans were big, and he wanted to go bigger. He wanted his whole life to revolve around Ainsley - marriage, a baby, maybe another dog. Grinning with the thought, Luke hummed happily and made his way up the garden path, gently pushing open their front door so he wouldn't disturb Petunia. Seeing the kitchen door was open, Luke smiled, knowing that's where he'd find the love of his life. Grinning, clutching to his t-shirt slightly as his stomach did backflips, Luke gently shut the front door, holding his breath as he did. Satisfied it hadn't alerted Petunia or Ainsley, Luke placed his bag by the door and made his way to the kitchen, leaning against the door frame as he watched his, hopefully, soon to be fiancee cook, manoeuvring around the kitchen so naturally, it amazed Luke. "You know," Luke started, grinning. "I think we should ditch cooking and head to the beach. But I'd love a hug first."

Calum felt his heart swell more and more as he listened to Molly's voice, swearing she centered him in a way that nobody else ever could - and he couldn't thank her enough for that. It was one of the many, many reasons he wanted to marry her, share his last name with her, spend the rest of his life with her right there by his side. He couldn't imagine anybody else ever standing in her place; he didn't want anybody else to ever stand in her place, because her place was beside him and his place was beside her, always. "I promise we can have a movie night when I get home," he promised her with a happy smile, wanting to do whatever it took to make sure she was happy, because her happiness was the most important thing to him, "And I'll be home before you know it." As the words left his lips, the Uber was pulling up to the house and he climbed out with a nod of thanks to the driver. Grabbing his bag, he made his way quietly up to the house to sneak inside silently, grinning. He followed the sound of her voice, listening quietly, and his heart raced when he finally saw her. Grinning, he spoke into the phone for the first time since entering the house and said, "Well, good news is that your better half is back home with his better half."

Ainsley couldn't help but be amused when she got Luke's text, though her heart fluttered with the thought of some day having a baby with Luke - a perfect culmination of the love they felt for each other that would reflect different features and aspects of them in the form of a beautifully unique child. Chewing on her lip with the thought, she grinned as she typed out Nonsense! Petunia would love the baby more than she loves us! and sent the text to Luke before returning to cooking, though she jumped when she heard a voice, immediately grabbing the closest unused pan for protection, but she processed it was Luke's voice before she even saw him and she huffed. "You scared me!" she complained but she grinned and set the pan down, quickly rushing over to throw her arms around him in a hug. "Why didn't you tell me you were back? I missed you! I could have met you at the airport!"

Molly listened to Calum's words, and she smiled to herself as she placed the cookies onto a plate. "These smell so good." Molly teased Calum, knowing he loved her cooking, and Molly wished, more than anything, Calum was with her. Hearing his promise of a movie night, Molly smiled softly. "I can't wait, baby." She promised quietly, wanting to hide the fact she was tearing up; lonely and sad without Calum by her side. But when told her he'd be home before she knew it, Molly smiled, knowing that tour didn't have long until it came to an end. "I know." She promised with a small sniffle, laughing at her own silly tears. "Duke can't wait to have you home either." Molly quickly changed the subject, wiping her eyes. "He's been sleeping on your side of the bed, and it's adorable." Molly offered Duke half a cookie with a smile - but her concentration on the dog paused when she heard Calum's voice behind her. Turning around, Molly gasped happily, dropping her phone and running into Calum's arms, her legs wrapping around his middle. "Calum!" She laughed, kissing all over his face.

Luke couldn't help the laugh that burst forth when he saw Ainsley with quite a large pan, clearly ready to use it for self defense, and just the thought of his Ainsley, sweet like sugar, knocking out a thief with a pot had him giggling, dimples etched into his skin. "I'm sorry!" Luke laughed, watching as she set the pan down, and as Ainsley rushed over, Luke caught her, his hands beneath her thighs as he lifted her into his arms, pressing a kiss to her lips, just grateful to have the love of his life back where she belonged - right there with him, in his arms, where he knew she was safe. "I wanted to surprise you!" Luke laughed, looking up at her with a smile that, he hoped, portrayed the love he held for her. "I missed you too, babe, so much." And Luke pressed a kiss to her lips once more, unable to stop himself. "How was it without me here?" He set Ainsley down carefully, his hands moving to her waist as he studied her for any subtle changes, smiling with adoration as he took in every detail that was already etched into his memory, because Ainlsey was all he wanted, and that's way it had to be today. Subtly patting the pocket of his shorts, Luke's smile only widened when he felt the small, velvet box, ready for use. "So... as a welcome home treat, I'm taking you to the beach. You wanna go and get ready?"

Calum couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his lips when Molly ran over, and he quickly engulfed her in his arms, holding her up by her thighs as he moved to kiss her deeply. “Hey, babe,” he greeted quietly, grinning broadly, his thumbs running over her thighs gently as he watched her. “Guess you really did miss me.” He smirked teasingly, amused, but, God, he was so glad to have her back in his arms, to have her there, where she was meant to be, and he was glad to just be back home with her, where he belonged, with her. “God, I missed you so much.” Grinning, he leaned to kiss her again, just needing her to know how much she meant to him and how much he missed her, how much he loved her, and so excited to ask her to be his forever, for her to share his last name. “I love you so much, you know that?” Shifting, he set her on the counter, resting his hands on her hips before he shifted to hug her close to himself, his hands rubbing her back. “It feels so good to have you this close to me again.”

Ainsley giggled against Luke’s lips when he lifted her and she grinned, sliding her arms around his neck as she watched him for a moment, just taking him in, taking in every detail of the man she loved. “Well, it was definitely a surprise,” she murmured, shifting to press her forehead to his as she relaxed, breathing out happily, just glad he was there, back with her. “It was boring, lonely.” She made a face, but quickly changed the subject, not wanting to linger on those thoughts for too long. “Petunia missed you more than I did, though.” She grinned teasingly, unable to help it. “How was tour?” Arching a brow with curiosity, she hoped that he’d at least had fun, that he’d gotten to enjoy the experience. She blinked. “The beach?” For a moment, she thought, and nodded. “I guess I can make the spaghetti when we get back, then… Okay, I’ll go get ready. Swimsuit and all?”

Molly giggled as Calum set her on the counter, holding his chubby cherub face within her hands as she kissed him between his words, overwhelmed with love for the one she knew she was destined to be with. "I missed you," Molly breathed out happily. "So much. No leaving for a while, okay?" Molly asked, peering down at Calum with doe eyes, wrapping her arms around his neck as he hugged her close, her legs around his middle as she squeezed around him, certain if she hugged him any tighter, they'd merge into one being, but she wouldn't mind that, either. "I love you so much, Calum Hood." Molly promised quietly, carefully pulling away to study her boyfriend. "God, you're a beautiful sight after this long." Molly smiled, leaning to kiss him, lost in him completely.

Luke sighed in relief as Ainsley's forehead pressed to his own, and he smiled softly, his eyes focused on hers. "I've missed you, Ains." Luke spoke softly, grateful to have her close to him, to hear her voice and be in her beautiful presence. "And I'm really glad you didn't hit me with any kitchen utensils." Luke teased, tickling her sides as his nose scrunched up with amusement, dimples etched into his cheeks. "Tour was lonely for the last leg, the moment you came home, I just wanted to be home, too." Luke buried his face into Ainsley's shoulder, sighing happily, just wanting that moment to belong to them. Hearing her confused tone, Luke grinned "The beach." And he gently placed Ainsley down, admiring her. "Swimsuit and all." Luke nodded, grinning. "Petunia can come too." He winked then.
