If he'd just argued on the basis of not wanting to deal with the Council or wanting her to rest, Ceren would have argued more, but as it was, this was the most time they'd spent with each other in days, and she found that she had trouble saying no to him when he was being sweet. And when he was kissing her, but Elwin usually only wielded that tool of persuasion in particular situations. "Okay," she relented when Aerith chimed in as well, giving her friend a smile. "Thank you both."
As Aerith and Nyrel left to do as they said, she pressed a kiss to Elwin's cheek. "I'm sorry if I seem like I don't want to spend time with you, El," she said softly, squeezing his hand. "It isn't, I promise. I guess it's just that I feel like I should be doing something, since I feel fine. Whatever ability to relax you managed to get into me in the mountains has just completely disappeared, I think."
"Just give us a couple minutes," Nyrel added, waving off Ceren's thanks, and followed Aerith back out into the hall as she tugged on his hand. In the hall, they found Earl Ciaran, one of younger members of the Council, and before he stepped in to intervene at Aerith's nudge, Nyrel turned to give his wife a quick kiss. "Early dinner? We'll talk about the cabin and... what just happened. I don't want you to be upset about this Aer," he said softly, aware that he could probably be overheard and not wanting to reveal everything to the guards and the earl. It once only once he had her agreement that he let her go to attend to what she needed to do and turned back to Ciaran.
"Lord Stonewater! Why am I being blocked from reaching the king? I'm trying to speak to him on behalf of the Council and the nobility," the elf said quickly upon realizing that he had Nyrel's attention.
Nyrel took a breath and crossed his arms. "The King is with his wife, who was just poisoned. He's rightfully concerned and focused on her health, not that I noticed you asking after it." The earl was set to stuttering at that, and in his haste to correct his misstep, it was easy enough for Nyrel to guide him down the hall, away from the infirmary doors.
