Jessie listened and bit her lip. "Oh." A current volunteer? Was that what they called their more permanent food source? What did that make her then? She sat up. "I'm going to go rise off and get back to work." she said suddenly not so tired anymore. "I'll just take about an hour then I'll let you have your home back." she said and stood awkwardly. She didn't know what this was or how the rules of it went. Viktor pulled back, "relax, they won't be here for months, and I'll explain it all in time, like I promised," he said softly. Jessie looked down at him as he pulled her back towards the bed. Her eyes searched his as his expression seemed pained. He started to talk about his family and she shook her head and placed a finger to his lips. "Viktor... let me get a change of clothes. Then we can talk." she said and leaned against the bed and caressed his cheek. "I... don't understand everything and I know we're working on that slowly but while we do that I also have to figure out how to keep myself safe and not get in deeper than is safe for me. It's not that I don't trust you because you have been nothing but trustworthy with me." she hoped she was soothing his worries. "But you are really hard to read so you're going to have to be blatantly honest with me about what you want." she said and bit her lip looking down. "Just think about that for a bit and we can talk about it in a little." she kissed his cheek then stood and headed to grab her things and went back to her guest room. She showered off and pulled on fresh clothes. Once she felt reagy she took her laptop with her and went looking for Viktor wondering how he was doing after the time apart.

Viktor nodded gently, "Okay I'll give you some time," he said softly. He watched as she left the room. Viktor used the time, to get cleaned up himself, and pull on some fresh clothes. He found his way back to the sitting room, and pulled a book off the shelf, he was paging through it slowly as Jessie found him.
"Hey, I'm not sure where to start," he said lightly. He looked at her and tried to think lightly, "I guess the best place to start is, my family take a different view of humans than me, to me, you are all so interesting and intriguing, different," he said softly.

"To them, you are one of two types, the violent hunter, or the weak prey," he said softly. "They spend their time, keeping the violent side of you in check, feeding to have the strength to kill and hunt continuously," he said. "Me on the other hand, prefer to feed only when necessary, hence why I've never used a human as a volunteer," he said softly.

Jessie came back into the sitting room and sat down as he was quietly thinking. She tilted her head as she listened to him. She had to keep reminding herself that nothing between them was serious and she couldn't ask that of him, he would live forever and she wouldn't just as a starter.
He told her of his family's views of humans and she had a feeling she would fit under prey. She bit her lip as Viktor explained he didn't have volunteers and it made her feel a little better that she wasn't just some long term snack. "Okay keep going." she said though she wasn't sure what it was she was waiting to hear. Maybe she wanted to know why he wanted her and what was next.

Viktor nodded softly, "perhaps I should explain, some of the things they have done in the past," he said softly. He flicked the book to a certain page, on it was a picture from one of the worst human wars in history, it was a picture of the leader of the aggressive side. He pointed to the picture, to the man on the right, "That is my brother, two days after this photo was taken, my brother slaughtered that leader, and his second in command, ending the war," he said softly. "Your human version of the incident, claims that the second in command tried to murder him, and was mortally wounded in the attempt, causing them both to die," he said lightly.

Viktor paused for a moment, "How do I put this, my family, keeps the violent part of humanity in check, so that the weaker side, can survive, in exchange, they take a volunteer who in all sense of the word, volunteer's to be fed on so they can survive, and fight a full strength," he said softly. He paused for another moment, "that ancient battle a thousand years ago, where 100 men, slew an entire army, it was more like, ninety actual men, cowered, while my family went to work, we lost four of our number that day," he said with a sad look in his eye.

He watched her, "I'm telling you, this in confidence, you understand, if anyone knew about this, vampires would be hunted down, to be used as weapons, or slaughtered by those with power, so we don't come for them," he said. He then paused, "Its been too many years since I've had someone to talk to, about things other than where to head next to keep the balance, it's been a thousand years since I lost her," he added.

Jessie sat there listening as she set her laptop down and pulled her knees up and hugged them as she listened. She frowned seeing the sadness in his eyes. She bit her lip wishing she could comfort him but that was a loss that would never be filled again. She nodded as he swore her to confidence. "I understand I won't put you in danger." She said. He told her it had been to long since he had talk to anyone and then she reached out and took his hand. "Who was she to you?" she asked him wondering if she had been like Jessie was now or more to him. Jessie knew he had a long life but it sounded to her like a struggle of a life. His important points in his life weren't those of excitement and fun it was of war and death and it broke her heart. Even if she was a blip in his existence she wanted to make his life a little brighter.

Viktor smiled softly as she took his hand. He paused and looked down, "I'm not sure how to put it," he said softly. He thought for even longer, "I met her when she was human," he started. A tear swelled up in his eye for a moment. He patted her hands, "it was similar to how we are, but she was sick," he said lightly. "Then, I couldn't think about losing her so soon, don't get me wrong, as old as I am, I'm used to losing people I know, but we hadn't even been together for five years, when she got so sick," he told her. "My family has a rule you see," he began changing the subject slightly, "each of us, can only pick one person to turn, a companion, whether it be a romantic one, or just a emotional or friendship connection," he said.

He smiled softly at her, "We don't get to pick another, at least no one ever has, but then again, my case is different," he said softly. "She was the one I picked, and now she's gone I've lost the one person I picked to spend eternity with," he added.
