A Wolfs Mate

"Yes you may." James said as gently patted her on the top of the head. "Everything is in the living room." Once she headed off, James picked up the dishes and brought them into the kitchen. He wasn't going to clean entirely, someone else would come do that. One of the young pups that needed to learn how to help. Besides, he was too busy most of the time to really keep the house clean. Same with the others and it was an easy enough job for the young ones to go around and do easy chores.

As he set down the last plate in the sink, Alice knocked on the door and headed inside. "Good Morning James." She said, a bright smile on her lips before she bowed her head to him. Though once that was done with, she went over to the man and gave him a hug. They had a whispered conversation in the kitchen before heading off to the living room where Rae was.

Alice headed over with a large smile, bowing her head for a moment as well before moving to Rae's side. "Good Morning Rae." She said before glancing at the movies that the woman was picking out. "Did you find anything good?"

James chuckled as he watched the two for a moment before speaking. "Well, now that you are good hands, I will get going Rae." He headed over to her, pressed a kiss against her forehead before heading out of the house and closing the door behind him.

As soon as she was given the okay, Raelynn got out of her seat and headed towards the living room. Her bright green eyes taking in the surroundings as she moved. Everything in the room looked so much different in the day then it does at night. Well, not really, but still. It was a sort of different atmosphere.

Stopping in front of the movies, Rae raised her right hand and lightly dusted her fingers over them. Her eyes taking in all of the titles that were available. Some sounded cool, others boring, and some of them were duplicates, although those were probably because they were remakes. Rae assumed at least.

After deliberating on what ones to watch, Rae slowly started to pick some of the moves. Jumanji, Transformers, and a Godzilla movie to start them off for the afternoon. Rae didn't know how long James would be gone, so she didn't want to pick so many and have no time to watch half of them because the alpha wanted her attention instead of the better-looking men in the movies.

Glancing up, Rae gave Alice a small nod as acknowledgment before glancing towards the movies once more. "I think so, but there's too many to choose from," Rae mumbled, turning towards Alice after a moment. Then, she turned her head towards the side as she heard James' chuckle. The sound causing her wolf to become overly excited for some reason. "Bye." She said quietly, then watched as James left the room. Not looking back towards Alice til she heard the door close.

"Is there a certain movie you'd want to watch?" Raelynn asked Alice, her bright green eyes looking to the woman curiously. She could faintly smell James' scent on her, but she didn't want to bring it up. Not yet at least, she didn't want to say anything in case the woman got Rae locked in her room once more.

"Oh, you can pick out any movie that you wish to watch. I have seen most of them before." Alice said with a smile as she looked over at the movie collection. Though she did point a few out. "I think these in particular are very good, if you haven't seen them. Though if there is something that you would like to watch first, we should watch that." She mused over the copy of the movie Ever After for a moment before walking away from the movie collection.

"I know you just ate breakfast but we should have some popcorn later, if not now. I love eating popcorn while watching a movie." The woman hummed happily for a moment before glancing to the kitchen. "I'll go see if there is any left and get us both something to drink. Alice disappeared into the kitchen, taking only a few moments to check the cupboard before grabbing them both bottles of water. It was still rather early in the day so Alice didn't want any pop.

Once back, she set the waters down on the coffee table before sitting down on the couch with the remote. "Okay, what would you like to watch?" Alice asked as she turned on the tv and got the DVD player set up. She wished that they had those streaming services like Netflix but they just haven't gotten their internet to move fast enough up in the mountains. There were some things about their location that wasn't the best, but the issues were minimal at least.

With a small nod of her head, Raelynn slowly shifted her eyes back towards the movies. The rest of the words that were leaving Alice's lips falling on deaf ears as Raelynn focused once more on what movie she wanted to watch. There were just so many to choose from. Things from action movies to romances, to fantasy and all of the above.

Finally, after what felt like a little while. Rae picked out a movie that she wanted to start them off with. Fast and furious, a movie that Rae didn't think she's like when she first saw it, but actually fell in love with. Especially since Paul Walker was such a good actor when he was alive. The guy was going places, that's for sure.

Putting the movie in the player, Raelynn moved to one end of the couch and curled up as she waited for Alice to come back. A small "thank you." leaving her lips as the water was placed on the table for her. "I picked out fast and furious," Rae told Alice as she kept her eyes on the TV, watching as the screen changed from normal tv to the DVD screen.

A small yawn escaped from Raelynn as she watched the beginning of the movie starts. It's been a while since she had slept so well, so last night was a big step for the young female, and it seemed that her body just wanted to repeat that. Get some more shut-eye, but she did her best to fight it. Rae didn't want to waist her time out of that damn room sleeping. She wanted to watch a movie, to walk around the house and explore. This was her chance to see things other than the four walls of that room. She needed to play a good girl for James so that she didn't stay a damn prisoner.

"How long have you known James?" Raelynn blurted out after a few moments of silence. Her eyes shifting from the TV screen towards Alice. Curiosity showing in her eyes.

"All his life." Alice said as she looked back at Rae, a soft smile on her lips. "I remember the day he was born, actually. I was in charge of helping set up for the party, finally out of pup hood myself." The older woman let out a satisfied hum. "It was a wonderful day. The alpha and his mate were so proud to have a healthy baby. They would be proud if they were still alive to see what he had become."

Alice looked back at the lady, a soft smile on her lips. "I used to watch him, you know." She let out a laugh. "Though I am sure that you are not too interested in those stories." For a moment, Alice looked the young woman over her face, wondering what she was thinking about. It seemed like an odd question to suddenly ask, but Alice thought maybe she should not look so deep into it. After all, Rae was just trying to learn more about James, a man she barely knew but someone who was now her mate. Additionally, she could smell James on her.

For a moment, the older woman looked at the movie, thinking about what to do or say next. Though she then looked at Rae, a soft smile on her face. "Is there something that you would like to know dear?"

Relief started to wash over Rae as she listened to Alice. Glad that nothing out of the ordinary was actually going on between the two. It was probably silly for Rae to have thought that something more was going on between the two of them anyways. Right? Age differences and all. Or something like that.

"Actually, I wouldn't mind hearing some of those stories," Rae mumbled quietly, curling up a little bit more on her spot on the couch. Some funny stories about the man that she barely knew might let her see him in a different light. Was he always a jerk who kidnapped young girls? Or, was he an actual decent wolf when he was younger? How old was he anyway, she couldn't remember if he'd ever told her that information actually.

Pursing her lips together, Rae just silently watched Alice. Watching the older woman, wondering if she's ever lying to the younger female. "Actually," Rae said quietly, keeping her bright green eyes on the woman for a moment more, before blinking so that she didn't seem threatening. "I'd like to know whatever you can tell me about James," Rae said quietly. "I know I should probably be asking him but, I want to know what you know about him."

Shifting into a sitting position, Rae crossed her legs and rested her hands in her lap. Her attention not in the least bit on the movie playing on the screen but instead on the older female. Wanting to know if she'd humor Rae with some information.

A soft smile moved over Alice's face as Rae started to show an interest. This was definitely a good thing, that she wanted to know more about James. Alice wanted the two of them to get along well. And if a few silly stories would be able to help that, then everyone would be all the better for it. "I do not think James would mind if I told you a few stories. In fact, I think it would please him to know that you are becoming more curious about his life."

With that, Alice turned to her, letting out a little hum. "You can ask me whatever you wish and I will answer what I can. Though, for now, I think I have the perfect story to start with. And then you can ask whatever you would like." With that settled, Alice cleared her throat and started to tell Rae a story about James when he was around 10 years old. Alice thought that it was a good description of who he was.

"Even when James was young, he was always more interested in the betterment of others and less concerned about himself. To the point where he would become blind to his own needs. It was clear that he would be a great alpha even then. When the pack is in great need, he takes action quickly." A soft smile came over Alice's lips. "I remember during one of his lessons, one of the other pack members had been doing poorly in a class. So much so that the pup was being threatened with being grounded... Well you know how easily pups go crazy when stuck indoors. Well, the pup ended up cheating in one of his classes and James tried to take the blame for it. He knew how much it would hurt him to get grounded so he tried to take the punishment for himself."

Alice shook her head a bit, but was still smiling. "He is still like that. And it is one of the reasons why our pack is so successful. But it is really up to us to take care of him because he won't do it otherwise."

For some reason that Rae didn't really understand, a wave of excitement started to swirl around in her stomach. She couldn't tell if it was because of her own curousity or if it was becase of her wolf wanting to know about the male who had marked her. Either way, as Alice spoke, Raelynn felt like she was hanging onto every word that escaped from Alice's lips.

"How did James know that the pup had cheated?" Rae asked, tilting her head to the side slightly, a characteristic she got from her wolf when something peaked her attention. "Was James the one who had helped that pup cheat on the test? Did he end up getting the punishment instead of the other pup?"

After hearing the story, Rae could feel her heart slowly thawing over the feeling of James being her mate. Although, it wasn't completely accepting yet. There was still so much that she didn't know about him. So much that he didn't know about her. This whole thing was new to Rae, it was a confusing situation and she wasn't really sure if she was alright with how things were.

"How old is James? Does he have any siblings?" Raelynn asked, leaning back against the couch as she asked her questions. "What happened to his parents?" Raelynn asked, curious as her own parents had disappeared years ago and she didn't really know what happened to them. She had been told multiple stories, so she didn't know what one was true. All she had left were a few small memories that were fragmented and couldn't tell if they had actually happened or were dreams.

"It was quite obvious that the boy had cheated. Even when James tried to take the blame for it, we all knew that he was just trying to help his packmate. James was not aware until everyone knew what had happened as he was called out during the test. They actually ended up both getting punished. James, for lying and the boy for trying to cheat." Alice said. "Though James was not in as much trouble."

"James is about 23 years old now. So not much older than you. He was an only child. Unfortunately, his mother died very young so they never had a chance to have another child. She became horribly sick. His father, on the other hand, only died two years ago. It was an accident when some of the pack members went out hunting. They accidentally ran into a bear and he got the brunt of it. Held on for a few days to get things in order but..."

Alice let out a small sigh. "James is a great pack leader and we are lucky that he is managing so well when he is so young. Though I know that we were all hoping that he would have a few more years before he had to take over. But he has really taken it in strive." A soft smile moved over her lips.

As Alice spoke, Rae made sure to stay quiet and take in all of this new information that she was being offered. Her lips staying pursed before slowly relaxing into a neutral purse. Things were starting to come together now. Why he was so protective of his pack, why he needed a mate so badly. Piece by piece, things were starting to come together.

"James doesn't hold a grudge about that bear attack, does he?" Raelynn frowned slightly at the question. The idea of it causing a small weight to form in the pit of her stomach. Just the idea of thinking it was her fault that a love one past was nauseating to her. She wasn't sure how she'd ever deal if she felt that way, or how she'd react either.

Wanting to change the topic from things that could take a depression course, Rae decided to ask something totally different, but still had James in mind. "How did your pack find out about me?" Raelynn asked, bringing her legs up to her chest as she gently wrapped her arms around them. "Had James decided he wanted me as his mate right away or had someone in the pack talked him into it?"

"No, he does not." Alice said softly. "It was not his fault that it happened and there wasn't much that the hunters could do anyways. Sometimes, things just happen... it was unfortunate but I think James learned from it. They tend to be more careful when scouting the land now, always watching out for some wild creature to come up on them." She frowned at the thought of it. They didn't want to lose anyone else to a wild creature.

Though as Rae started to change the topic, Alice started to calm back down. She was glad to move onto something else, hopefully something better. However, how James picked her was not something that Alice thought she should really be putting her finger on. "I think that is something you should ask James about." Alice said softly, giving the girl a gentle smile. "It's not that it's anything bad in particular but I do not fully understand how James ended up finding and picking you. He could give you more information."

Alice ran a hand through her hair before lifting her eyes up and glancing up at the movie. The woman let silence fill the room before she turned her head back to Rae and gave her a warmer smile than before. "Is there anything else that you would like to know about James? I will try to tell you as much as I know."

A small huff escaped from Rae as Alice turned down her questions. It was something that Rae wanted to know about, but didn't know how to bring it up to James. It just felt, weird to bring up with him. Almost like, she was to shy to talk about, even though it wasn't something she should be embarrassed about.

Leaning her head back on the couch coushion, Rae closed her eyes for a moment. She could not stand not knowing and nothing else was on her mind at the moment. "No, I don't really have anything else at the moment," Rae mumbled quietly, not looking back towards Alice as she spoke.

The young she wolf stayed like that for a little while more before she straightened up and looked towards Alice. "Can you make us some popcorn now?" Rae asked, she could see that the credits for the first movie were playing, so surely that meant that there was some time between now and breakfast, right?

Slowly, Rae stood from the couch and headed towards the stairs. She hadn't told Alice that she'd be getting up, so she hoped that the older woman wouldn't freak if she wasn't on the couch when she came back.
Moving to the room she'd been locked up in, Rae folded the blanket that was on the bed and put the pillow on top of it before carrying them both down the stairs. Her arms full and threatening to drop the fluffy blanket as she walked down the stairs, each step felt like a challenge.

Once she was safely down the stairs, Rae set the pillow on the armrest of the couch and then laid out her blanket. She would have loved to have been able to change into some sweats, and a t-shirt, but since James had brought her this dress, she didn't want to anger him by changing. So, making a comfortable little bed on the couch would have to do to make her more comfortable. "Do you want some of my blanket Alice?" Rae asked, offering the woman some of the warmth as she sat down and covered up.

Alice nodded in agreement before getting up and going into the kitchen. In truth, the older woman had wanted to make popcorn right away when she got there but it seemed like a better idea to wait until at least the younger woman wanted some as well. After all, Alice didn't want to eat all of the popcorn herself, which she would definitely do if someone wasn't there to stop her.

Once the popcorn was down, Alice put it all in a large bowl while also brining some spices and movie theater butter to add to it. Though when she came out, Alice saw that Rae was walking back into the room with her arms full of blankets and pillows. A little frown moved over her lips as she watched Rae get everything set up. In truth, it would make watching movies a bit nicer but Alice did not like that Rae headed off without saying anything.

Though as she looked up at the older woman and offered her the warmth of a blanket and pillow, Alice could not help but smile softly. "Yes, I would. Thank you Rae." She said softly as she walked over to her. She securely put the popcorn in the middle of them both before getting cuddled up in one of the blankets that Rae had brought down. "This is definitely better." Rae said happily as she turned on the next movie for them.

A small smile offered to Alice as she agreed to Rae's offer. It was nice that the two of them were getting along so well. Yet, Rae felt like she was walking on egg shells with the woman. She was acting like her baby sitter after all. Only here and talking to the young female because her alpha had asked her to.

Reaching over, Rae took a few pieces of the popcorn and popped them into her mouth as the next movie started to play. Her bright green eyes were focused on the screen, smiling a little as Transformers started to play. It was her favorite, so she was glad that she was able to watch it. Although, she really wasn't in the mood right now to watch it.

"Alice," Rae said quietly, looking towards the woman after a few moments. "What is your position in the pack?" Rae asked, curious to learn more about the woman. "Do you have a mate? Or any pups of your own?" Slowly, Rae shifted her body so that she could talk to the older woman a little bit better. "Have you been anywhere outside of the main pack area?"

"I keep the pack running while James is gone," Alice said with a small laugh. "I ensure that everything goes smoothly, give help to those who need it and ensure everyone does their jobs. Though, I suppose that should, hopefully, be your job soon enough. After that, I guess I would be an advisor to you both. Unless there is a different position James would want me in, of course."

"And I do have a mate. He trains the fighters, used to be quite a good one himself." Alice smiled widely. "He still fights a little even though I keep trying to tell him he is too old for it. I have a couple of children around the pack. My daughter is the healer and has a child of her own. My sons both are fighters like their father. I used to be a fighter too, actually."

The woman let out a small hum before continuing on. "Most of the pack has been outside of the area at some point or another. Well, except for the really young pups that is. Though there are things we need to do outside of our land and plus like to go adventure a bit." She shrugged a bit. "Why? Does your pack leave their home often or not really?"

It felt like talking to a friend when Alice was around, or a motherly figure. She was just so kind and the way she spoke made Rae want to listen to her more. Not in a weird way, but in a way where she didn't feel intimidated to be able to ask questions.

"You must age really well, you don't need old enough to have three grown pups," Raelynn said quietly as she tried to imagine the woman in her younger years. She had no grey hair and from what Rae could see, she didn't really have any wrinkles either. If Rae had no contact with this woman or listened to her talk, she would of assumed she'd in in her mid thirties or something.

"My pack was very conservative. No one left the parkland, and they never took in any dispersals either. At least, none that I know of." Rae mumbled quietly, her lips turning into a small frown as she shifted her eyes away from Alice for a moment. Thinking about it, her pack was very close to each other, they only relied on each other. It was a miracle really that Rae was even open to be able to talk to a stranger at all.

Leaning up, Rae reached over and grabbed another handful of the popcorn before leaning back again. "What's the land here like? I mean, I know it;s in the mountains but like, is it cold here. Do you have any waterfalls? Lakes? What kind of prey do you have here?"

Alice let out a warm laugh. "Well, thank you. It must have been from all of that training before I stopped fighting. Though, wolves do tend to age much better than humans, wouldn't you say?" Alice said warmly before eating some more of the popcorn. She then shook her head a bit at Rae's words. "That is really too bad. There is much to see in the world and we take the time to appreciate it. Though, of course, the pack will always come first."

She let out a small hum at Rae's question. "Well, mountains and forests here mostly. There is a river and a waterfall. Though no lake, there is not enough flat land for there to be one. At least not in our area. There is one at the bottom of the mountain, but I wouldn't go there. The pack that owns that land is quite unfriendly. It will get cold here, very cold, during the winter. But we know how to keep ourselves and our houses warm. Less hunting during that time but it is always okay. As for prey, a lot of deer up here. Smaller creatures as well like rabbits, and birds and the like. Sometimes we get a bear but that is not very often."

A small silence moved over Alice before she continued. "Lots of berries and other fruits and veggies up here as well, at least during the summer. Though we can always get something from town. I mean, popcorn doesn't grow in the wild!" Alice smiled widely before letting out another warm laugh. "We like to hunt but we do buy a lot as well."

The lips of the young she-wolf lifted and then fell ever so slightly as she listened to the older female. It was interesting to learn all of this different stuff from her. Alice was a very kind and caring woman and Rae was glad that she was given the okay to spend some time with her. "You used to fight?" Raelynn asked, curiosity peaking as she slowly sat up in her spot. Rae remembered someone telling her that the pack was strong, but she didn't know if everyone here knew how to fight or not.

Reaching her hand out, Raelynn grabbed a few more pieces of the popcorn that they had made once Alice took some. They were running low, which meant that they must have been talking and eating for a while.

"I've always dreamed of seeing a waterfall," Raelynn mumbled quietly, more so to herself. "How cold is cold?" Rae asked, a little skeptical. "I'm not a very big fan of cold weather. Does it snow here?" Her head tilted slightly as she listened to Alice. Then, a small rumble filled the house and caused Rae to look up. Her attention peaking as she noticed how dark the sky had gotten. Then, in the next second, a flash of light appeared outside of the window followed by the loud sound of pouring rain.

"Woah, that really came out of nowhere," Rae said as she glanced towards Alice for a moment before she slipped from the blanket and went to the window. The rain seemed to be pelting the ground and the sky constantly flashed with lightning it seemed. Then, with one particular loud boom and flash, the power went out in the house. Casting everyone in pitch blackness. Of course, since Rae and Alice werewolves, they could see alright, but still, it was dark and spooky.

A deep frown moved over Alice's lips as the power went out of the house. This was not what she wanted, especially not when she was watching Rae. The older woman looked over at the girl for a few moments, as if deciding what to do. She did not want to leave the girl up here by herself but bringing Rae downstairs was completely out of the question. The woman eventually let out a sigh before getting up onto her feet. "Stay here and don't touch anything electrical. I don't want you getting shocked."

With that, the woman headed out of the room and made her way downstairs. She figured that there was no where for Alice to really go even if she did try to run away. Plus, it was likely she would run into other members of the pack before even getting out of their pack area. Hopefully James would not be mad at her if Rae did end up running....Fuck maybe she should have gotten one of the guards to watch Rae? But she wanted Rae to keep trusting her so she needed to show she trusted her a little as well....

Once downstairs, Alice made her way to the power breaker and started to mess around with it. One of the flips was surely going to bring power back to all of the house... Though, if she could not get that, then Alice would be happy with at least being able to light up the main floor. One of the other pack members could deal with the rest. While messing around with the breaker, Alice started to mumble under her breath. Surely this would only take a minute or two?

It took a few moments for Rae's eyes to readjust to the darkness, but once they did she turned to face Alice. "Shocking," Rae mumbled, trying to make a pun out of what Alice had said. Then, she sat down on the edge of the windowsill as she watched the older woman walk away. Being as patient as she could before she stood up and looked around the room once more.

Like hell, she was just going to stay still. This was a good chance for Rae to try and find Marcus. She couldn't leave him locked up here, they needed to escape together. They were best friends, they were taught together. Although he learned more then she did, but still.

Getting up from her spot, Rae moved as quietly as she could through the house. Opening doors on the main floor and looking around for any sign of her friend, but was having very slim luck. "Damn it," Rae mumbled as she opened another door, that turned out to be a supply closet of some sorts. Reaching out, she grabbed a few candles. They'd be good to use if anyone asked where she had gone as she could say she went to look for something to help light up the house. Her eyes were fine in the dark, but it was still nice to have some light.

Closing her eyes, Rae took in a deep breath then slowly exhaled. She could smell Marcus, but it was faint. "He must be on a different level." She mumbled to herself before slowly heading back towards the living room. The area smelled heavily of her and Alice since they had been in the room most of the day, but as she moved around she could pick up traces of Marcus' scent. Which unfortunately led her towards the basement door. "Shit," Rae mumbled quietly to herself. Her green eyes glancing around for a moment before slowly following the scent of Alice and Marcus down the stairs.

"Alice?" Rae called as she made it halfway down the steps, the two candles she found held against her body as she walked. Her eyes glanced around the basement as she walked, trying to find any sort of clue to where her friend might be being kept. "I found candles, but I couldn't find any matches or lighters." She never looked, but surely Alice wouldn't know that. Right?

As her feet met with the cool flooring of the basement, a door to the right caught Rae's attention. It was kinda weird to have a room there, in her opinion. Her eyes narrowed a little as she slowly made her way towards the door, her curiosity and desperation to find her friend raising in her. She didn't care if Alice saw her moving towards the door. She had told the woman she couldn't find the damn matched for the candles, so surely that'd be what the woman thought she was looking for, right?
