Elliot pursed his lips as he sat in town, watching the horse drawn carriages roll by. Elliot had finally gotten away from the hectic nature of his day to day life and was truly just trying to find a moments peace, sitting in town. It wasn't proving to be the most peaceful time, however. His family was known to be very wealthy, and that, mixed with his striking good looks, made him quite the target for stares from flustered women, and a look of being measured up by their male companions. Elliot didn't usually oppose the attention, he knew he had to find a bride one of these days, but today he did just want to be left alone.

He kept his eyes moving back and forth, through the people and the carts. As cart after cart rolled by, he made up little stories for the people who passed him. That was until one specific carriage rolled by. He hardly caught a glimpse of the beautiful blonde who was sitting inside, but the few seconds he was all he needed for his breath to hitch momentarily in his throat. His eyes immediately moved to the man in the carriage with her. Older, looking possibly like he could have been her father. He also looked vaguely familiar to Elliot. Perhaps he'd met him at one of his fathers parties. Only in passing, though. Elliot didn't forget people he'd had conversations with.

Against his better judgement, Elliot stood up and started walking after the carriage. He just needed enough of a look at the older man to figure out who he was if he had any hope of seeing the woman he was riding with again.
"I'm what?" Penelope said loudly, her eyes wide.

"To be married," her father said, his tone unimpressed. "And would you keep your voice down, he's sitting in the next room."

"The next room?!" Penelope repeated. When she woke up, she hadn't expected her day to go like this. "Why am I getting married off at all, father? I'm not that old yet."

"Penelope, you're twenty four. That's nearly at the age that's too old to find a suitable husband. William is a good match for you. He's got a fair bit of money and he doesn't mind your age."

"Doesn't mind my age? Oh how lovely of him." Her voice was dripping with sarcasm as she spoke. She could tell she was getting out of line, however, with the look her father was giving her. "How old is he then?"

"Same as you," her father informed her. He turned to look at the maid, giving her a curt nod, indicating to Penelope that she was going to fetch this William. Penelope stood up, flattening the front of her dress. She might not be happy about what was happening, but she knew how to act like a proper woman in front of new people.

"I'll never forgive you for this, father," she stated quietly as soon as the maid had left the room to get her future husband. Penelope had always thought that her happiness is what came first to her parents. She knew that she had no chance in changing his mind without her mother around, however, and it was far too late at this point. If her mother had still been alive, Penelope would have been told about this the moment plans had been brought up. Without her mother, though, her father was much more secretive. It clearly didn't work out in Penelope's favor.

[I don’t expect replies to be thing long, jsyk lmao. starting it was just hard to do short]

The wind that wafted through the small window brushed her face as her eyes closed and she basked in the light. It'd been a few weeks before she was allowed to venture into town for any reason. Normally she'd join her mother and sisters on a walk to town. But since her father had needed a few things from town he'd allowed his youngest to accompany him. And she never disappointed her father, as she was content with the simplicity of life. She'd yet gotten her head filled with boys, as he father stated.

Though what he didn't know was every time she was with her eldest sister there was constant talk of when she'd be allow in society. How she'd introduce her to the most important men, allow her a chance to mingle and attend parties without her parents. As it was now the only time she was able to attend dinners or even go out in public it was only when she was accompanied by her parents. It was annoying to say the least. But it was how things just were. And her mother was nothing but strict when it came to their futures, not allowing her children to be subjected to society until the eldest is married. Thankful that the age difference between herself and her sister was a bit of a stretch that her eldest had been married and her second sister was suspected to soon be engaged to be married. So it wouldn't be to long before she was allowed out.

A soft smile pulled at her lips as she looked out the window noticing that they'd entered town. The carriage started to slow, to a stop. Waiting till her father exited she took his hand in one of hers, and her dress in the other. Stepping out she smiled before stepping up to her father, taking his offered arm. She knew that she couldn't wander and they weren't here for her. She had to focus on her father's need and where he would drag her. "Sir." She heard several greeting and a few people gave a soft bow. Her father offered one back before he started to lead her into the nearest shop.

Once inside she stepped away from her father allowing him the chance to do his business. Walking around the shop she stayed close to her father, but kept out of the way. "She's so lovely." She could hear the woman behind the counter gush, knowing that it was normal to hear. It was said about all her father's children. But she didn't pay no mind and neither did her father. "Charrie." He called to her when they were done, quickly moving to her father she followed him out of the shop. Quickly hooking her arms around his, letting her eyes drift around taking in the bustle around them.
The bouncing of his leg was the only thing keeping him seated. He couldn't believe that he was sat here waiting to be introduced to his future wife. His father's final request of him was to wed, the woman however was one that was picked by his mother and grandfather. And knowing that he would be required to wed before he got his inheritance made thing final. He couldn't over come this and he had himself to blame. He could have been chasing after suitable women, and maybe he'd been allowed to marry them. But instead he had buried his nose in his books and did his best to study, prepare himself to take over his fathers business. But he knew it wasn't that simple and he'd forgotten a very crucial factor, picking a wife.

And so that's what had him rooted in his spot, his very future depended on it. If he ever wished to make a good living, he have to marry. And this arrangement was very suitable to both families. As their daughter was just shy of being a spinster, and he needed a wife rather quickly in order to take over a failing business. And this woman wouldn't lower his stature in life either.

Hearing raised voices his eyes darted to the door across the room from him, raising a brow as it seemed he wasn't the only one entirely in love with the idea of marrying a stranger. Standing he started to pace back in front of the couch he'd previously been seated upon. Only to pause his movement when he was joined by a maid. Giving a curt nod he quickly followed after the young woman, pulling a deep breath.

"Good afternoon sir." William greeted the gentleman in the room, his name having slipped his mind. And he knew that he wasn't about to spend much energy trying to remember it either. It was taking everything in him right now to stand, as this wasn't something he thought he'd ever have to do. Meet his future wife for the first time, knowing that if anything wasn't to his liking he'd still have to deal with it. There wasn't a chance to back out now. Taking his hand back from the man's grasp he wasn't' surprised when he quickly introduced his daughter. "This is my lovely daughter Penelope." The man stated with a rather grand gesture.

His eyes locked on hers, a smile pulling at his lips, before he offered her a bow. "Madam, it's a pleasure to meet you." He told her. Lifting himself to his full height he let his eyes take in the woman before him. He was a bit shocked still to follow what was going on, after all he was just asked to visit for an introduction.

Elliot was thankful when the carriage that was carrying the absolute vision from above stopped. The man, who he was now certain was an acquaintance of his fathers, exited the carriage first, followed by what had to be his daughter. She was absolutely stunning. Elliot stopped walking, and against his better judgement, let himself stare unabashedly while the pair walked into one of the shops. Once she was out of his sight, Elliot decided with himself that he needed to find out who she was, and what her status was. With any luck, he could be lucky enough to be introduced to her.

It wasn't long before they were once more out of the shop, and he told himself he could no longer just stand and stare at her beauty. He started walking again, towards the young woman and her father. Thinking quick, Elliot pretended to not be paying much attention and 'accidentally' hit the older gentleman's shoulder with his own.

Stopping and feigning a convincing look of concern and remorse, Elliot stopped and forced himself to look at the other man, instead of looking at his daughter like he so desperately wanted to.

"I am incredibly sorry, sir," Elliot said, sounding sincere. "My head is elsewhere. Have we met before?"

He was hoping this would lead to the man giving Elliot his name, and perhaps Elliot could use his father as an influence in having a proper introduction with the blonde beauty now in front of him.
Well, even though she wasn't anywhere near happy with her arrangement, at least it had happened with someone presentable. Her father had said he was her age only a few moments ago, but she was quite thankful that he wasn't lying to try to soften the blow. He did at least look rather distinguished for their age, as so many men in their twenties did not.

Penelope curtsied to the stranger she was meant to marry, bowing her head as she did so. She looked back up to meet his gaze, forcing a small smile as her eyes met his. "Pleased to meet you." She wasn't entirely sure how to address him, as her father had only called him 'William.' That wasn't appropriate, and she would have to find out his full name eventually, especially if it was to be her own. Looking at him almost made her cry. She couldn't believe her father would do this to her.

"I'll excuse myself for a moment, allow you two to get acquainted," Penelope's father said, standing up and walking towards the door. Penelope knew he'd have his ear pressed firmly to the backside of the door, and was only leaving to make it seem like Penelope had some sort of say in how this went. She knew she didn't, however. She was stuck, powerless to join into a union she wanted no part of. And just like that, her father was out of the room with a small click behind him.

Charrie wasn't paying much attention to the things around her, so when her father jerked into her. She couldn't help but to stumble a bit. After steadying herself she turned to peer at the cause of her sudden lose in balance. Blinking and tucking her head she couldn't help the soft smile that pulled at her lips. It was rare for her to take notice of any man. She'd not really been interested in any of them. As she knew that her parent would never agree to her meeting a man. Let alone to marry one.

Her eyes snapped up as she heard him address her father, she was rather shocked to hear they may have already been acquainted, as her father wasn't very social. It was by her mother's pleading that he'd ever go calling on the neighbors. But he knew it was for his daughters future and would put his boots on and begrudgingly do so. However if it dealt with his own business then he couldn't deny making the acquaintance. "Elliot." Her father's voice was laced with laughter. "My boy I haven't seen you in years." He quickly shook the man's hand. "You're father was one of my oldest friends," he quickly explained how the two would have meet. "Sam, Sam Morganton."

Charrie couldn't help but looked at her father, never had she ever heard him call himself Sam. His introductions were always so formal, Samuel Morganton. She wondered just how long her father would have known this man. "How is your father?" Samuel quickly asked, like he'd completely forgotten that they'd ever collided. Charrie smiled lightly it was rare that she got to see her father associate with someone outside of the family, carelessly. It was refreshing to say the least.
"Subtle." The word left his mouth before he could stop it. Knowing the man was anxious to marry his daughter off. And weather either of them like it or not the wedding would take place, the very day his mother said. Not a moment later. "Shall we?" He questioned her motioning for her to sit. He wished to do so himself as he wasn't sure how much longer his legs would support him. A soft sigh left his lips once he was seated, his body angled towards her as his eyes settle on her. He felt very awkward now at this moment. He had no idea what he was suppose to do or say now. She was going to be his wife, but he didn't know how to communicate with her.

"How are you doing?" He asked, knowing it was an open question, however his question was aimed towards her and the news she'd be marrying him. Honestly marriage wasn't a big issue to him. It was the living, breathing soul that he'd have to communicate with, take care of and eventually love. He didn't know how to do any of that. His father wasn't the best role model for husbands. He'd always come home from work sit at the table with his paper, never once did he show his wife any attention. But he knew it was due to the fact that his mother had loved another before him. She'd told him that it was her fault his father was impartial to her.

Letting his eyes roam over her face he couldn't help but be intrigued with her beautiful features. They were light and pleasant, making her appear younger looking. However he was very much aware of her age. And he did feel that they would be better suited due to their age differences. Also he did have a feeling they'd get along well as she wasn't married yet, meaning she wasn't crazed with finding a husband. It showed him signs that she was much more mature than the others.

Elliot was thankful that the man remembered him. He never would have gotten to the name Sam Morganton on his own. He was glad his plan had worked out. With a name now, he could manage a more intimate setting for them to convene.

"Right, Mr. Morganton. I knew I knew you," Elliot grinned as he shook his hand. He retracted his hand and put it into his pocket, careful to keep his eyes on the other man in front of him instead of his daughter. If he was going to follow his plan properly, he'd have to avoid contact with her until introduced. He wanted to make sure he was on the correct path to knowing her intimately, and didn't want to compromise this. Her beauty had taken him aback, and that did not happen often with Elliot. Sure, many women in passing would garner small flirtations, but someone this beautiful wasn't just a passing wink.

"My father is great, albeit a little older than he used to be," Elliot laughed. "He can hardly get up on his horse anymore. He says the horse is getting taller, but we're all sure he just can't hoist himself up as high. Say, why don't you and your family come over for dinner tonight. If I recall correctly, you have daughters? I'm sure my father would love to see you, and my mother would love the chance to see your wife again. My younger sister would love to be in the presence of your daughters as well, I think shes sick of having only me in the home."

Hopefully, with any luck, Mr. Morganton would agree.
Penelope's fake smile dropped once her father was out of the room. She nodded and sat down next to William on the couch, letting out a small sigh. She wasn't sure if she wanted to unpack the emotions that she was feeling onto a man she'd just met. Even if they were to be married in one week's time, they didn't know each other. She wasn't sure how he would react if she spoke her mind, or spoke how she truly wanted to. A lot of men did not react favorably to women who expressed how they felt properly. Many wanted a wife who would be a quite beauty by their side - something Penelope never wanted for herself in the least.

"I found out only a few moments before meeting you that we were to be married," Penelope said honestly, looking him in the eyes. She wasn't afraid of him, but she knew to be careful how to speak until she knew his temperament, at least in part. "Truthfully, I could be doing better, Mister... I'm sorry, I don't know your sir name."

She wouldn't jump into calling him William unless otherwise instructed, and truthfully, she would be calling him Mister Whatsit until she was more comfortable with him. First names were simply not for strangers.

Samuel let out a joyful laugh, it wasn't something he often showed people. He was always so well composed, but he couldn't help but let himself be take way by this young man and enjoy his words. "That father of you're always was a stubborn one." He joked with the man, before him. He couldn't help but nod along with the younger names words. Smiling at the fondness.

"It would be wonderful to catch up with my old friend." He smiled turning to look at his youngest daughter. "If I'm not mistaken your sister is the same age as Charrie." He smiled nodding knowing it was an opportunity that he couldn't pass up. Most of the times he wouldn't do something so rash and rushed, but he wasn't willing to pass up a chance as this one. "We'll be delighted to, if it's not to much trouble." Samuel said, causing Charrie to smile softly. She was getting rather excited to make new friends. It would also mean that she'd be able to see more of Elliot. Though she would feel slightly uncomfortable sharing a table with a man she found attractive.

"Well I must be going, if we're going to make it in time for dinner, got to finish up my business." He chuckled, knowing that he wasn't entirely friendly with the young man, and if he hadn't mentioned his father being home he'd have never excepted the invite.
William looked at her knowing it was a bit of a shocker that she would be getting married to a random stranger. "I completely understand, it's very unsettling." He told her, knowing that she was far more upset that she was letting on. "Henderson, you may call me William." He told her knowing which ever she chose would be fine with him. But it didn't matter to him, as he was going to be her husband. He really wanted to talk to her and understand what kind of person he was going to wed. But he knew that neither of them were going to open up fully and let the other see them.

Sitting back he crossed his leg over his other, before clasping his hands together and resting them in his lap. "Well.. Is there anything you'd like to talk about?" He asked feeling a bit awkward asking her these questions or even trying to speak to her like he knew her. Normally social encounters would have something simple you could speak about, weather it would be a song, dance, or even shops. Things that you surrounded yourself with. But here in her home there wasn't anything in which he could break the ice by using. And he was afraid to say anything that may offend her.

"Yes, I should be going as well. I'll have to get everything ready. I'll be seeing you tonight," Elliot grinned, extending his hand out to the other man again and shaking it in a farewell. He turned his attention to the girl, Charrie he now knew, as he retracted his hand from her father.

"I'll be sure to tell my sister to have things prepared for you both to talk about. She'll be very excited."

A friendly and harmless remark about his sister should be fine. It would definitely put Mister Morgenston at ease about bringing a young woman to a house with a marrying age man. He took another moment to take in her facial features as discreetly as he could before looking back to his father and nodding to him. "I look forward to tonight, as I'm sure my father w'll be too."

With out any further dilly dallying, Elliot turned around and took off at a brisk walk back towards his horse, which was stored safely beside a shop one of his childhood friends owned. He unhooked the reigns once he reached her and climbed atop, taking off towards his house. His mother would be a bit unhappy with him for arranging this without telling her, but he'd smooth it over. Elliot was a very charming and charismatic man, especially when he had something he wanted in his sights.

Before long he was home, informing their servants of what to do. His mother, like he'd thought, wasn't overly impressed. His father and sister, however, were both rather excited. His father was happy to see his old friend, his sister happy to see one who could potentially be a new friend for her, as she had so few.
"Forgive me, Mister Henderson, but are you always this... awkward?" Penelope gave her head a small shake once she'd said it. From his tone, he couldn't be that harsh of a man, but she still knew what she'd just said was probably rude. "I don't mean to offend you, but you can't always talk to women like this, do you?" She hoped he was just feeling uncomfortable with the situation, as she was. If she was to be stuck with someone who couldn't speak with an individual that carried a pair of breasts on their chest, she couldn't stand it. She needed to be able to have conversations with the person she was going to be stuck living with.

"If you don't mind me saying, I'm not... I regret to inform you that I'm far from what most men would see as a proper lady. You don't need to worry about saying something as to offend or unnerve me."

She half expected her father to come bursting through the door at the way she was speaking. He might be just waiting for William to respond. If he wasn't going to fuss about her speaking frankly, her father wouldn't either. After all, Penelope was to be in William's charge after a week's passing, not her fathers any longer. She truly hoped that William proved to at least have the temperament to allow her to speak freely in their own home, if not in public. Her father had informed her more than once that they way she held her tongue was comparable to the way a pig holds in its shit - very poorly. She never knew how to control her mouth, and she knew it caused her father embarrassment.

Charrie's wide eyes met Elliot's, his words were lost on her as she was in a trance by being addressed by this man. When he stated he would be leaving though she felt like she had lost all senses. She'd forgotten to bow when he left as she was still so distracted with how handsome he was. Her father didn't waste any time on chastising her, instead he pulled her along talking idly to her about how they had to make haste. He's excitement was very evident in his words.

Upon arrival home, her father quickly alerted her mother of their plans for dinner. To say the least her mother wasn't entirely happy. The food for dinner was already being prepared, however Samuel deemed it was a feast to be given to the servants. That was the final word said on it before the girls were ushered up stairs to get changed for dinner. And even though Charrie had been in town wearing clothing her mother approved of. She was still instructed to change, it didn't make sense to her as she wasn't out in society.

But none the less she dress in her mother's choice of clothing, it was a slip of a dress. Slik drapped over her small frame, lace hugging her breast. It was one of her favorite dresses, as it wasn't heavy or overly fashionable. It was something she could move around in easily, and not so stuffy. Once dressed she sat allowing one of her mother's hand maids to do her hair. She wasn't that big of a fan of having her hair put up. But it wasn't proper unless it was.

It seemed like a whirlwind of a day, before she could finally breath. Her heart was beating out of her chest as they were sat in the carriage on their way to meet the family of the young man from this morning. Her parents were talking amongst themselves about the outing. However she wasn't paying any mind to it, instead she was preparing herself mentally for coming face to face with Elliot. She knew that he must have a wife or at very least a fiance, but none the less he was a man most women dreamed about meeting.
William couldn't help but let out a soft laugh, he shook his head lightly. He knew that it could very well be the fact that were strangers. But none the less he liked the fact that she was honest with him. "I'm not awkward, per say. However I do find this very awkward. I don't know what to say to you." He informed her. He felt that honesty was the best option right now. Neither one knew how to address the other, or even what to say. And when she started talking he was much revealed.

Nodding lightly to her words he couldn't help but smile to her. "I'm very curious to know what that means, but I suppose that I'll learn." He chuckled, "but I'm sorry that I'm not more sociable for you." He teased her. Knowing that even though he's acceptance of this arranged marriage he still couldn't make thing less awkward. And it wasn't like he was going change over night either. They would have to spend a bit more time together before he felt like himself. After all he was more into studies and not socializing.

"I don't know why you'd invite them tonight," Elliot's mother, Grace, said slightly indignantly as they gathered in the front hall of their home, waiting for their guests to arrive. She turned to look at Elliots father, "and I don't know why you said it was fine, Isaac."

"I want to see my friend," Isaac replied, shaking his head. "Elliot was good to arrange this."

"Thank you, father," Elliot replied. His parents continued to bicker back and forth, nothing serious, as they waited for their guests. Elliot paid no attention to it. He could hardly focus on what they were saying, anyways. His mind was on Charrie, Mr. Morgenston's daughter. Elliot wanted to know her, he needed it. There was something about her that completely drew him to her in a way he couldn't describe. He hadn't mentioned it to his father, he hoped his father would bring up Elliot's eligibility and character on his own. If he didn't, Elliot would have to take matters even more into his own hands and perhaps suggest something to his father.
"Well that's a relief," Penelope said, forcing a small laugh. He did seem to have a kind nature about him, which was a small comfort for Penelope in this time. She wanted nothing else than to leave and never come back. Run away and see where life would take her. That way she could make her own choices and not be doomed to a life she so desperately wanted no part in. She wanted her own free will, not to marry some stranger - even if he was a handsome one.

Penelope pursed her lips and looked out the window. It was a lovely day, and a shame they were inside. With a small inspiration, and perhaps the need to make things with her fiance seem more natural, Penelope looked back to William, and stood.

"Would you like to go for a walk through the forest? It's a beautiful day, and I think I could do with some fresh air."

It was then that her father came back in. She looked at him, and he had a grin on his face, "Wonderful idea, my Penny!"

Charrie smiled when the carriage came to a stop, she turned to look at her sister giving her an excited look. She'd mentioned to her earlier that Elliot was handsome, however she didn't let on that she was interested. It was a bit to soon for her to decided weather or not she would like him or not. After all she didn't wish to become infatuated with someone else's husband. So tonight was a night for her to not only meet new friends, but to learn a few things about the man she'd meet earlier.

Taking her father's hand she stepped from the carriage, before tightening her shaw. It was a bit chilly but that didn't dampen her mood. Lagging a few steps behind her mother and father, she clung to her sister as they made there way inside. Having been meet by servants who were escorting them inside. It wasn't often that she got attend dinners, so tonight was a night she would have to remember. Because every thing was beautiful.

Stepping through the doors she was greeted by the sight of a family. Her eyes sweeping them as she tried to avoid staring at Elliot. Her father shook hands with the man of the house before quickly introducing his family. "This is my wife Mary, and our daughters Anna and Charrie." She offered a soft curtsy when her name was mentioned, even though she wasn't used to the social standards, she'd been preparing for them. And she couldn't wait till her mother stopped being so strict and let her out. Hearing Elliot's father introduce his family she couldn't help but let her eyes moved from family member to member as their names fell from his lips. Her eyes meeting Elliot's before he offered a bow. It was brief and she wasn't entirely sure if he'd been looking at her or her sister, but she swore that he was looking at her.
William heard her offer of going for a walk, however his response wasn't cut off when her father waltz into the room. Standing he looked at the man, "will you be joining us sir?" He questioned, watching as the older man shook his head his response none verbal. He chose to ignore the off putting feeling in his stomach. Before he stood and moved to Penelope. "Shall we then?" He questioned her, needed her assistance as he'd never been to her home before now.

As they strolled out of the house, he could feel himself somewhat relaxing. He didn't like that her father was constantly lurking. Normally it was unheard of for a man and woman to be left alone. But seeing as they were now engaged to be married. It was only a matter of time before it happened. And he felt rather revealed. "You're not overly fond of your father." He pointed out, having noticed the look she gave him as he interfered. "It is because of our union or does it goes further back?" He questioned her, hoping that he wasn't over stepping his bounds. But knowing what they like and dislike would make things a bit easier with each other, after they married.

[Just so you know, I probably wont be able to reply until Sunday night, maybe Monday afternoon. I've got a hella busy weekend as it was my bfs birthday yesterday and it's fathers day on sunday! Cute Just didnt want you to think I bailed if I dont post for the next couple days]

Elliot couldn't let it be obvious that he was staring at Charrie. He'd have to divide his attention between everyone, as he didn't want to come across as a pervert. He truly did just want to know her, there was no ill will or anything sinister or inappropriate about anything he thought towards her. Her beauty was a very rare kind, and he knew any man would be lucky to be in her life in any capacity.

He shook Sam's hand and gave a smile to his wife, then looked towards Charrie and her sister. Her sister wasn't plain, but she wasn't anything like Charrie. His eyes moved from Anna to Charrie, though they were standing so close he assumed they would hardly know who he was looking at. He gave them a gentlemanly smile and a bow, before his sister rushed passed him and right to Charrie, enthusiastically introducing herself as Margaret.

"Make sure your sister doesn't talk the girl's ears off, would you," Isaac mumbled to Elliot discretely before ushering their guests into the sitting room, informing them dinner would be in an hours time.

"Forgive her enthusiasm," Elliot said with a small chuckle, walking to the three girls. "She hardly has friends."

"Be quiet Elliot!" Margaret said indignantly. "I'm just social, is all."
Penelope was happy to be out of the watchful eye of her father. While it was a little unconventional to let an unmarried pair stay alone together for prolonged periods of time, Penelope was thankful it was allowed to happen. She was glad to be out in the fresh air, trying to let nature and the beautiful weather calm her down.

She glanced to William as they spoke, giving him a small nod. She pointed in the direction the trail through the nearby woods, heading the pair in that direction.

"No, not particularly," Penelope said candidly, "At least not at this moment. He... Well I'm sure he's doing the best he can. My mother died several years ago and it's just been me and him ever since. He doesn't see a point in keeping me informed on choices and events in his life and mine, while my mother would have. If she had been alive, I know I wouldn't be stuck marrying you."

She let out a small sigh as they reached the path, stepping into the forest. "I don't mean to make it seem like I think you're a horrible person to be stuck with, but I'd prefer to be marrying someone because I love them, not because my father thinks its a good match. Not because I'm apparently lucky that someone like you doesn't mind that I'm this age."

She knew she sounded bitter and upset, but she didn't care. Penelope wasn't going to completely hide that.

[Thank you for letting me know, have fun]

Charrie couldn’t help the bright smile on her face as Margaret greeted her, it was the first time she’d got to meet a girl her own age. Most of them were either married off or kept by their mothers. She was thrilled that she was now getting the chance to meet her. As they conversed between themselves she couldn’t help but turn to acknowledge Elliot as he approached them. Tucking her head lightly to hide her shy smile from him. She didn’t mind the girls enthusiasm and she actually welcomed it.

“You have nothing to be worried about, Charrie isn’t that sociable.” Anna chimed up, teasing the younger.

“I find it rude when people put their nose is other’s business.” Charrie said to Margaret, aiming it at her sisters nosiness. She watched as her sister walked off from them, sticking her tongue out at the two younger girl when she got out of the line of sight Elliot. “And she’s suppose to be a lady.” Charrie shook her head, knowing she would miss her sister when she married but none the less she was happy she was getting a new friend.
William felt a bit hurt by her words, though he didn’t let it bother him to much as he was just happy that she was opening up to him. And also the fact she quickly elaborated that it was per say him, just the situation he let it slide. “Is that what he told you, that I don’t mind your age?” He couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. “I will be honest with you the reason why I’m okay with this marriage is my father passed and I’m expected to marry before I take of his business. But because I’ve focused on my studies and the business I’ve not had the luxury of meeting suitable women. Also I’ve never wanted a wife. I was, am content with just working and not having a family. But my grandfather won’t allow me to have the business until I marry.” He told her.

He followed her lead and walked down the path that cut through the trees. He could say that today was a very unusual day for him. Most of his time was spent over a desk. His mother always tried to push him into going out to gathering and parties. But he was more focused on taking care of his family. Even though he didn’t own the business didn’t mean he wasn’t still working to keep things running. “I can provide for you but I’m sorry I’m not a better suitor.” He knew that nothing he could say would change her mind on him, if her heart was set on marrying for love.

Elliot chuckled at the girl's interactions. Charrie was evidently young, probably slightly younger than Elliot had assumed, but that was no matter. He wasn't some old man by any means. Still in his twenties, he was just on the cusp of no longer being called a 'young man' and would soon just be graduating to 'man'. Really, all he needed now to make that transition was a wife. He was the part owner of a mill on the outskirts of town, and he was part of the city council, even though many people felt him too young.

"Why have I never seen you out and about before?" Margaret asked, a grin on her face. Elliot decided he wasn't going to stick his nose into conversation for now. He was, after all, just there to make sure Margaret stayed a little on her tame side. He didn't want to be too forward, but perhaps after dinner he could chat with Charrie. He would have to plan his actions carefully.
Penelope nodded after listening to what William had said. At least he would gain something from their marriage. Sure, she was simply an object in his equation, but it was at least a small consolation that someone would gain something positive from this marriage - even though it was at her expense. If he owned a business, they would be at least somewhat well off. Perhaps better than living in squalor once her father died. Still, she would have liked the chance to find someone to love.

"I'm sure you'll be a fine husband," Penelope said with a sigh. "I don't mean to defame you or seem like anything I say is an attack on you personally. I'm angry at my father, I'm not angry at you. I understand my place in the world, even if I think it's preposterous."

She gave a little shrug, deciding to move on to other topics. If she pretended they were just getting to know each other, perhaps she would feel a bit more at ease and a bit less like she could spontaneously cry at any moment.

"What do you enjoy in your free time, Mister Henderson?"

Charrie felt a bit on edge as Elliot lurked close to them, she didn't want to make a fool of herself in front of the gentlemen. "My sister is yet married," she stated, knowing she'd understand that her mother was a bit old fashion and kept her daughters at home till the eldest is married. It was that way with most families of wealth. They seen it uncivilized when more than one daughter was let out into society. However it did pose a bit of a hindrance, as Charrie wasn't suppose to socialize with men. It was unfit for her. Though she was thankful that her family had brought her along, this would give her a chance to not only get to know someone her own age. But also get the change to mingle with someone of the opposite sex.

Charrie could have swore she saw her father smirking in her direction. She knew that he didn't wish for her to leave him yet. But it was slowly starting to happen. First she'd gain friends and spend more time with them, then soon she'd be in society and not long after he'd have to grant a man permission to marry his child. But Charrie had a feeling that it wasn't entirely all that plagued his mind. But she choose to ignore it and do her best to enjoy the night. Get to know the people she called host.
William felt a soft smile pull at his lips, even though it wasn't the best complement he'd got, it was one none the less. Letting out a soft sigh, he turned his attention to the path before them. He wasn't used to being so active, but he was rather enjoying it. And was already making plans in the future for taking a stroll with her. "I understand completely where you are coming from." He told her, feeling somewhat the same way about this as she did. He however had a lot longer to except this. But he also hadn't expected his father to pass when he did. It threw a wrench into his plans. After all he would have love to choose a wife on his own. But this was what he got and he had excepted it.

"And I don't hold anything against you." He told her, hoping that by letting her know this that he was encouraging her to continue to be herself and not hide it from him. He would rather get to know her true self now than be surprised by it after they were married. With this at least he'd know what to expect and could decide for himself if he should interfere with her or encourage her. Though all this thoughts were pushed aside when she questioned what he liked to do in his spare time. "It just depends on the day." He chuckled softly, knowing that he rarely had spare time. But that was also by choice. "I do enjoy a good book now and then. Some time I except an invitation to lottery." He knew it was rare that he actually attended the games. But it was something he could report he enjoyed in his free time. "William, please." He coxed her, hating how formal this visit was.

"Do you know when she will be?" Margaret asked, her eyes hopeful. "I'd love to see you more often. I'm always in the mood for new friends. Especially with hair as lovely as yours. It would be so fun to do! You're so beautiful Charrie. Don't you think, Elliot?"

Elliot paused for a moment after being asked a rather inappropriate question by his sister. He knew better than to get mad at her though, and truthfully she didn't mean any harm by it. She wasn't always the most tactful or mindful of the rules of society.

"Yes, quite," Elliot said, deciding he should make his leave for the time being, lest something more come of his comment. He gave a small smile to both his sister and Charrie before walking into the sitting room where the rest of the guests were. He stayed standing, leaning on the piano that was in the corner of the room. He kept his eyes moving, so that every so often he could glance back to where Margaret and Charrie were. It was too hard not to look at her while she was around.
Penelope wasn't comfortably enough yet to call him by his first name, though she knew eventually she would be. Unless something went horribly and she decided she hated him. Then he would be Mr. Henderson to her for the rest of their lives.

"You enjoy literature?" Penelope said, probably sounding brighter than she had through the rest of their conversations. "Books are my favourite pass time. My father has quite the library and I'm allowed free access to it, except the books on politics. Father says its inappropriate for women to try to get their head into the affairs of men. I'm sure you agree with him, most men do. In any case, I have many other books to read. History is my favourite."

She caught herself before she rambled even more, looking at him as they walked. "Have you ever been on a ship, Mister Henderson? I recently read a book about travel across to the Americas."

A soft smile pulled at her lips when Margaret rambled on she was a bit stunned when the girl spoke to her brother about her beauty. Looking at her with rather wide eyes. Her shock evident, but what made her shift her attention was when Elliot agreed. Feeling her check heat up with her embarrassment, she tucked her head lightly. It was the first time a man had ever given her a compliment. Sure she’d had married men rave to her father about how he was lucky his daughters weren’t ugly. After he turned to leave them Charrie collect herself, knowing her new friend had been talking to her before and she completely ignored her.

She then turned her attention to the young woman of the house. “There has been a gentleman caller, but he’s not made a purposely yet.” She stated, knowing her sister was pretty. And there were men who had lined up to marry her, but only one caught her eye. Though he was in London away on family business. So she couldn’t give an answer on when he’d be back or if he’d even give the offer. Something inside told her that it wasn’t going to be any time soon. So she never pushed the subject. As her mother was very stuck in her ways.

Letting her eyes drift after Elliot, she wondered if he’d left because he was embarrassed because he had to address her so. Or if he was ashamed that he’d had to compliment such a young girl. She hoped that what ever it may have been that she wasn’t the cause of any discomfort for him. His sister didn’t seem to keen on personal boundaries or correct social standing. But she still liked her none the less, it gave her a bit of freedom to enjoy herself and not feel suffocated by rules.
“I do.” William listened to her speak about how she loved to read. It wasn’t a big surprise to him as most people pass time away getting lost in reading. It was a comfort to them to be able to enjoy a life besides their own. “Ah bit what is history, politics and great achievements.” He told her, knowing that even if her father didn’t approve of her learn politics. That it didn’t stop her, and he didn’t see the problem with a woman knowing politics as a child’s first teacher is their mother, and a son learns more from her then he does a father. So if she can teach him everything he need to know as a growing man then his father can teach him about business. And then he would have a round education. That was how William was raised. Sure he had teachers and such but his mother was the one that help him with his learning, his father just showed him how to make profit. But we’re crucial Parts of his up bringing. And he didn’t think he would change anything about it, other than getting to spend a bit more time with his father.

He couldn’t help the smirk that pulled at his lips as she asked if he’d been on a ship. “I have been on hundreds of ships,” he couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. “My father ran one of the largest shipping yards.” He explained, he’d been allowed to sail on few but not many as they were property of someone else. “If it wasn’t so far away, I’d love to travel there.” He told her about America. He had everything her needed here, besides a wife.
