More Than Friends

Annie grew up in a small town in Maine and had always been kind of the quiet type. She didn’t cause problems and she was a good student, high hopes of one day moving to the Big Apple, with aspirations of becoming a somebody. She had talked to her cousin many times about this and she wanted to join her in this quest of self discovery. So here she was with Nessa getting off a plane at ten in the morning, tired as hell. They had made sure to have everything settled before leaving Maine, that way they could just get to their new home and crash. Annie was as excited to start a new life in New York meet new people and make new friends. Find a career in baking, she loved to bake so much.

She looked over at her cousin once they left the airport and grabbed an Uber to head to their apartment. Which wasn’t too far and it was pretty affordable strangely enough. They’d always hear horror stories about how over priced things were in New York. “Well we made it! Let’s hope this lasts” she smiled as she got out of the Uber once it dropped them off at the apartment. “I don’t start my job until next week so I’ll probably just look around and see what I can find what about you Nessa?”

Joey Tribiani was not an intellectual person, he never claimed to be and he never would, but he knew how to have a good time. He especially enjoyed company with a beautiful woman. Joey was on his way home from another failed audition. How could he mess that up? He groaned as he kicked himself, stopping by a sandwich shop to buy some food. Joey made his way to Central Perk to see if his friends were there. When he noticed Chandler Joey walked into the coffee house.

Joey sighed heavily as he walked over and sat next to Chandler in his usual spot. “I didn’t get the part” he sighed, Joey really wanted this part. Joey wasn’t always great during auditions but he tried so hard. “I guess I still have Days of Our Lives..” that was his steady income but he also wanted to branch out. “So where’s the rest of the crew?” He asked then took a bite of his meatball sub.

"I start at the clinic on Monday," Nessa said as she stretched her arms above her head, looking up at their new apartment building. Nessa had lived in a small town for half of her life, the other half in a big city. Her mother went through a mid life crisis when she was about ten and uprooted the family from Maine and moved them to Chicago, Michigan. That lasted about ten years, and then Nessa and her parents were back in the small town she'd spent her childhood in. While initially glad to be back, Nessa quickly got bored. When her younger cousin Annie mentioned she wanted to try something new and exciting, Nessa jumped at the chance. Her cousin had remained her best friend, even though the distance, and living the big city life with her was something that Nessa was extremely excited about.

"I'm good to go exploring if you are," she decided, smiling at Annie. "I'd rather stretch my legs, even if the flight wasn't that long."

Chandler's office's power went out, and thus he was stuck sitting in Central Perk on a Friday morning. Not that he minded, but he did think it was kind of a waste to go to work for an hour before being told to go home because building management said it wasn't safe to sit at your desk and wait for the power to come back on.

He looked over his shoulder as Joey walked in, commenting on his lack of a new job. Chandler gave him a sad sort of smile and a shrug, "better luck next time, man. Everyone else is at work, Joey. It's a Friday. That comes before the weekend."

He leaned back into the couch a bit more and slouched crossing his arms over his chest and shutting his eyes, "It'll be just me and you today, pal. Any ideas of what we can do?"

Joey was more of a social butterfly than Chandler, and he could definitly think up something better for them to do that Chandler could. Even if Joey suggested something that involved not moving off their couch like a Die Hard marathon, it would probably be better than the long day of sitting and staring at Gunther that Chandler currently had lined up.

Annie took out her house keys as she listened to her cousin, “that’s great Nessa! I’m pretty excited about this baker chef job, I hope I do well.” She opened the door and stepped through “I’m so glad we came down here and decorated and fixed everything up, otherwise we’d have a lot of unpacking to do” Annie was always good about being prepared for anything and everything and that included moving. “Now we just get some rest and maybe later we can go get a cup of coffee or something.”

Annie walked into her bedroom and set her luggage down, and began to change into something more comfortable. Kicking off her shoes and changing into some shorts because it was still hot out. She walked out of her room for a moment, “I’m going to take a nap if you need me just feel free to wake me.”

Joey came Chandler an annoyed look, “I know that.. usually there’s someone else here.”Joey sat around and ordered a coffee and a few pastries, he looked back at Chandler as he asked him about their plans. “I have a date later with this nurse, but I can see if she has a friend if you’re up for it buddy? Maybe we can just go see a movie or something?”

Joey generally has ideas of what they could be doing but he was too disappointed to come up with something.”so why are you here then if you’re supposed to be working? Playing hooky Chandler? For shame!” He teased.

Nessa walked into her bedroom and kicked off her shoes, dropping her purse and carry on backpack onto the bed. She had been a little skeptical of going ahead early to set up, but now she saw that Annie was right and this was totally the right idea. Much easier to just get there and start living.

"Yeah, okay," Nessa said, nodding to her cousin as she spoke. "I'm going to go on a walk, I think. Just around the block, I'm feeling a bit antsy."

She picked up her purse again, checking to make sure her keys were in it. "I'll probably be back before you get up."

She gave her cousin a smile and a small wave before heading out again. She popped her headphones into her ears and adjusted her hat as she walked down the hall and towards the stairs. Nessa was excited to be starting a new chapter of her life.

"A nurse, huh?" Chandler replied, looking slightly impressed. He hoped that Joey wasn't too... for lack of a better term, stupid, to have a successful date with a nurse. Chandler loved Joey, and while he wasn't the most intelligent person ever, he more than made up for it with his other qualities, but not everyone could get past it.

"Power went out," Chandler informed him. "So here I am, with you. But sure, I'll come along with you on your date, if she has a friend. A cute friend. Don't stick me with someone who has one eye and a snaggletooth or something. I know I'm not George Clooney but please."

Annie looked up with tired eyes and smiled “have fun exploring the city, I’d go but I’m exhausted.” She waves before she headed back to her bedroom and sat on the bed going through her stuff. Annie was quick to get comfortable and fall asleep. It had been such a long flight, Annie wasn’t a huge flight fan she’d always get cranky and tired.

She woke up a couple hours later feeling less tired, she got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. Annie washes her face and sighed, she was excited to start a new life in New York. Annie walked to the kitchen for some water she thought this apartment was nice. The scenery wasn’t bad either, she was enjoying it already.

Joey smirked, “yeah, I met her when I hit my head and got a concussion.” He shrugged. “She’s real nice looking with an amazing body he made a gesture with his hands. Joey was never looking for anything more than a good lay he was content with his love life.

Joey stared at Chandler, he let out a laugh hearing his friend ramble on, “you mean you don’t want to date Janice again?” He made a face even bringing her up again. That face her crazy hair, the way she laughed. It was like a horror movie. ,

While she was out, Nessa got a small plant to put in her bedroom window, and an ice cream. It wasn't an overly eventful walk, but she was extremely excited to be back in a big city, so this was like a dream for her.

"Oh, you're up," Nessa said when she walked into the door, seeing Annie in the kitchen. She glanced at her watch, blinking a few times. She hadn't thought she'd been gone as long as she had, but it seemed to have been a couple hours. "How was your nap?"

She kicked off her shoes and went to her room, placing her little nature friend in her window, before walking back into the kitchen and hoping up onto the counter.

Chandler shuddered, but more for dramatic effect than anything. He'd rather eat his own big toe than date Janice again. They'd already been on again off again a few times, he didn't need it to be on again.

"Don't even joke," Chandler said, shaking his head. He leaned forward and grabbed his coffee, taking a drink again before putting it down. "Anyone would be better than her and her," Chandler paused to imitate her laugh, "laugh."

Annie looked up when Nessa walked through the door and smiled “yeah, I slept pretty well I think, how was your walk? I see you made a new friend” she smiled while looking st the potted plant. It was a pretty plant maybe she should get one too she thought. Annie looked to Nessa, “you see anything interesting while you were out and about?”

Annie opened the fridge and took out some fruit, “so I was thinking about going shopping later this week for more groceries, but maybe we can go get some coffee later?”-

Joey laughed shaking his head “no that’s your thing l. You’re the funny one” Joey remembered Chandler’s on and off again romance with the annoying Janice. She’d always have something to say and that damn laugh drove Joey Crazy. Not to mention how thin the walls are at their apartment. He had to hear more than he bargained for.

Joey took another sip of his drink, “why didn’t you date her more than once? With that laugh?” He shook his head.

Nessa laughed quietly at the friend comment. She wasn't going to feed into the joke by telling Annie she'd named it Peter.

"I saw a place called Central Perk not that far from here, actually," Nessa said, nodding. "It looked cute. I didn't go in, but it was the kind of place with couches and stuff. Very cozy. Could be a good place to call 'our coffee shop' or something, yknow?"

"I'm hopeless, awkward, and desperate for love," Chandler said in an exasperated tone. "Lets just move on from this, shall we?"

He gave Joey a pointed look before closing his eyes again. He really didn't want to dwell on Janice or that god awful laugh that still kept him up at night in the worst possible way.

Annie grinned, “I also need to decorate with more plant life, not too much, maybe a cactus.” She smiled.

Annie looked out the window and smiled, “yeah that sounds great,”! She turned her attention back to her friend, “we might make a few friends too, we need to explore the night life too.”

Joey shook his head at Chandler, “you’ll find someone buddy, you just come off kind of strong, relax .”

Joey took another bite of his sandwich he wanted to help Chandler he was always helping Joey and he just wanted to return the favor.

"Want to get changed into something semi-decent, then? We can get going now and stay out till it's acceptable to be drunk when we come home."

Nessa shot a smile at her cousin and jumped back off the counter and headed to her room. Black jeans, sandles and a cute shirt would probably do.

Chandler shrugged, "hopefully... Though you are Dr. Drake Ramoray, I should probably trust you."

He shot Joey a smile, not wanting to be a total kill joy in the moment. He knew he'd find someone. He just didnt know when.

Annie smiled nodding, “all right, I’ll go get changed and then we can go out ..” she laughed st her friend’s comment.

Annie changed into some shorts and a simple belly short, and some flip flops, walking out she looked st Nessa. “This isn’t too much?”

Joey grinned, “that’s right I am” he pointed his fingers st himself. “Doctors are wisdom..” Joey didn’t always speak so well.

Joey wanted to help his friend find someone and he was going to, “well, I’m going to get another drink.”
