The heatwave finally cracked in Baltimore as the signs of fall started peaking about. Elise had been back home close to a year, ever since her father passed away. She needed to make sure her mother was fine, but more importantly, she needed a change of scenery. She had lived up in Maine for so long she forgot what normal humans were like. Forgot that 60 degree weather, like the kind they were experiencing wasn’t a heatwave but a cold front. During this year, she was on her toes. Expecting to see all her old high school friends, but the ones she was real nervous on seeing, seemed like they didn’t live here anymore. They were either busy touring or lived in different parts of the country. Which was good for El, because that means she didn’t have to explain her best friend to anyone.
She had taken the savings her father left her and opened up a small inn not too far from the water. It opened up in the summer and had been a hit since. Today, was no different. El found herself spreading thin between a bunch of jobs, and currently on the phone arguing with her mom on the scenery. “Kid! Come down, I need your opinion!” She yelled into the dining room where she knew Bowie had her face shoved in some book. Elise continued the bickering as she stepped up on the porch.
“Mom, to my left, there’s a giant gated house. Some rockstar does not live in it. Why would they choose here out of all places?” She bitched on the phone, thinking of it was someone famous, they were probably a sports player that she wouldn’t know anything about. As Bowie made her way into the porch, El hung up the phone.
“Kid, your grandmother is going insane again. She’s trying to tell me to raise the pricing on the rooms cause a rockstar lives there. But see, we’ve been here all summer and no one has ever left that house! So I think she’s on crack and needed an outside opinion.” The older redhead spoke at 100 miles a minute due to the overdose of caffeine.
The younger woman laughed, ready to back her mom when they saw the gate open and a man around Elise’s age popped out. He had bright green hair and looked like he was just trying to get the hell out of the house. When Bowie squinted her eyes, she started freaking out. “MOM OMG! GRANDMA WAS RIGHT!! THATS ALEX FROM ALL TIME LOW!!” She started yelling as if she was raise d with no manners at all. Elise cocked her head to the side, trying to think which band it was of her daughters before freezing solid.
Oh hell no. Of course her new place was right next to Gaskarths house.
