The city was abuzz with activity, the spring harvest was about to come in. The weather was beautiful, and the markets were bustling. It had however been a busy period for the curly haired man, that stood watching the crowd in the city center.

He worked as a laborer, picking up whatever work he could find. It was good pickings for work these days, if it wasn't picking for the harvest, it was carrying loads to market, or repairing fences. However, the man was all to aware that the work would soon dry up, as the season changed, and times became tough all around.

Daniel sighed, as he wondered whether he would still be able to handle it in the ring. Like many of the other strong capable day laborer's, when work dried up, he would fight to get by, a meal and a roof over your head sounds like a pretty good deal, when you're starving.

Something peculiar drew his eye, towards the other side of the market, and Daniel began to slowly make his way through the crowd.

A warm smile was stuck to Giselle's face as she made her way from the markets. As she moved through the busy streets, she took a moment to pull her clock further down her head, wanting to keep her face hidden from those passing by. Once she was sure her identity was protected, the young woman brought the bags closer into her chest and continued on quickly.

This was her first time being able to successfully sneak out of the castle before being caught. The other times she had been caught and sent back to her room in haste. Though, a few times, a few of the guards agreed to escort her through the market in secret. But truly being free to roam through the city had been thrilling to the young woman and she could not wait to do it again. But, of course, she needed to get back to the castle safely before planning her next trip.

As she headed towards the palace, Giselle saw a few of the knights heading down the street. She let out a small gasp before quickly panicking and swerving into a side road to avoid being detected. As she continued down, she noticed that there were fewer people this way. And before she realized it, Giselle was at a dead end.

With a sigh, Giselle turned around to head back, but as she did so, she was quickly cornered by three men. Two held out weapons towards her as one moved in on the young woman.

Daniel kept making his way through the crowd. He was fairly sure, the woman he'd seen was the Princess. What had been most peculiar, was that there were no guards escorting her.

With a mix of nudges and grunts, Daniel kept moving towards the other side of the market. His trail catching the attention of the Knights. He spotted the woman he had seen slip down one of the streets, he knew to be a dead end, in more ways than one.

The strong, lean man managed to slip out of the crowd, and head down the street. He came across the robbery soon enough, and began stumbling about on purpose. At least, he could test out whether, he'd be any good in the ring this season.

Daniel stumbled into one of the men with weapons, pushing him over. 'Oh sorry, I'm a little drunk..." he stuttered out.

The man that was pushed over fell down on his ass. His sword clattered to the ground, a foot or so away from his hand. He scowled up at the drunkard. "Get lost!" The fallen man said harshly as he started to make his way back onto his feet.

The other man holding the sword lowered his weapon slightly as he turned his attention to the nonthreatening drunk as well. His eyebrow raised as he found the man rather strange but nothing more than that.

The weaponless man, however, stepped forward and started to speak. "There is nothing for you here. Be on your way and head to the tavern down the road. We are in the middle of something." He said as he pressed his hand against Daniel's back to lead him away.

Giselle, on the other hand, looked confused and frantic. She was fearful of what would happen but also had no idea as to what she should do.

Daniel spun slightly as one of the men moved to led him out of the alleyway. "But, I love just over..." he began to mumble.

Once he'd created some space between the men, and this woman. Daniel, checked his surroundings again, and thought about his plan of attack.

After a moment, he stumbled slightly to his left, kicking away the sword that had clattered to the ground with one of the men. He then turned, grabbing the wrist of the unarmed man, as he kneed him in the gut.

He looked up at the Princess, "now would be a good time, to leave," he said softly.

The unarmed man fell to the ground as he was kneed in the gut. The man that had been pushed was still making his way up onto his feet when he suddenly noticed that the drunkard was trying to attack them.

With the other two incapacitated, the final man with his sword still in his hand pointed it at their attacker. "Prepare for death!" He yelled out at him.

Giselle, her eyes widen in a panic nodded to the man who came in to save her. Though, she wasn't quite sure where she was meant to go in this dead end. But, nonetheless, the princess tried to run past the two downed men and the one still standing with his sword out.

But before she was able to run out of the alley, the now swordless man was able to grab Giselle by the waist and throw her to the ground. He was quick to stand over her before looking at the drunkard with a scowl.

The man with the sword then flew forward in an attempt to swing his blade down into his neck.

(Apologies, I've been super busy the last fortnight)

Daniel watched as the man with his sword still out, moved forward. The adrenaline of the moment, washing over him, improving his senses. He stepped to one side, allowing the blade to swing past him in an arc.

He looked as the woman was thrown to the ground by one of the other men. He twisted his body, clobbering the man with the sword in the side of the body, with a punch.

"Real men, don't attack women," he said gruffly, as he dropped his facade of being drunk, and shifted to punch at the man standing over the woman.

    (It is perfectly okay!)

After the man had been punched hard in the face, he fell back onto his ass. "Fuck this is not worth it!" The three men looked at each other for a moment before quickly scrambling onto their feet. "You're crazy!" One of them said as they started to run down the alley, no longer wanting to deal with the guy who had been faking being drunk before singlehandly getting all three of them onto their asses.

With large eyes, Giselle looked up at the man who had managed to protect her form being attacked. "T-thank you." The woman studdered out. She was tensed after being cornered by three men, but still she felt on edge. He may have ran off those men but she wasn't quite sure what he wanted. Maybe she was lucky and all he wanted to do was help? Her eyes drifted down for a moment before she let out a shaky breath.

Daniel kept fighting, until they all ran off. He kept his guard up, incase it was a ploy. He turned to the woman, once things had calmed down.

This was the first chance, he'd had to really look her over, and his suspicions had been right. This was in fact, the Princess. He bowed slightly, "I'm sorry about that, Princess, I didn't want you to be hurt," he said lightly.

"How did you know who I was?" Giselle asked, her eyes widening as she watched him bow to her. She glanced down the alley, ensuring that no one was around to see them. Slowly, the princess moved back onto her feet, looking to the man that had saved her. From what, she wasn't exactly sure but any scenerio would have been horrid.

Taking her cloak, Giselle pulled the hood back up, not wanting anyone else to recognize her. It seemed that her disguise and her trip was not as successful as she had thought. "Thank you, once again, for saving me. It was very valiant of you."

Daniel looked at her lightly, "The worried and concerned knights, entering the market, was honestly a good indicator," he said lightly. He helped her to her feet.

"You are lucky I came, those men are known to do some horrible things," he said lightly. He looked around the alley, "I shall leave you, to whatever errand, brought you into the city, alone and disguised," he said softly before turning to leave.

Her frown only deepened when the man mentioned having seen 'worried and concerned knights'. That was one of the last things she would have wanted to hear as it confirmed that she had been caught in sneaking out. Perhaps, she was not at good at hiding and she would hope.

"No, wait," Giselle said as he started to turn to leave. She took a step forward and grabbed onto his sleeve lightly. "Could you escort me back to the castle? I just want to get there safely, please."

Daniel turned back to look at her when she grabbed him. He paused for a moment, "How could I refuse the request of the Princess," he said lightly. He stepped closer and offered her his arm in case she wanted it.

He then began to walk back towards the castle. "So why were you out today anyway?" he asked.

Giselle moved to the man's side and gently laid her hand on in the inside of his arm. She took a moment to make sure that the hood was still up and covering most of her face. And once she was certain, Giselle started to walk him with towards the castle. Though, as they moved through the busy streets, all of her attention was on the stranger that saved her.

"I wished to go to the markets," Giselle told him honestly, her voice quiet as she spoke. She didn't want anyone to overhear her. It was unlikely that anyone would recognize her by voice alone but there always could be a noble walking around. "And, unfortunately, I am not allowed to go."

Daniel nodded gently, "Well, perhaps, we can slowly browse the market on our way back," he suggested. He walked with her, keeping an eye out for threats.

It felt odd to him, to be with a woman, let alone one as powerful and pretty as this one.

"No, I already went," Giselle responded as they headed back to the castle. She kept a close eye on what was around her, not wanting to get caught by the guards before they got back to the castle. Though, she couldn't help but look back at the man with her.

"What is your name?" The princess asked softly. "And, may I ask, what do you do for a living?"

Daniel nodded lightly, "oh okay," he said calmly as he turned to take a route back towards the castle. He thought for a moment, "My name is Daniel, M' lady," he said lightly.

After another brief pause he decided to be honest, "honest work is hard to come by, and it'll only get harder once the harvest season dries up, for now I mostly just carry produce to market, stuff like that," he admitted. He looked down, "Once winter hits proper, I'll probably have to fight in one of the bars," he added.

The princess was quiet for a moment before she slowly nodded her head to Daniel. In truth, a plan was beginning to form in her mind as to what to do about him. After all, Daniel had saved her life, and a simple reward did not feel like enough. Though now knowing that he had a hard time finding work, she believed she had the perfect plan for him.

"That is unfortunate," Giselle spoke softly. Soon enough, they were towards the front of the castle and a few of the guards moved their attentions to the two of them. After a moment, they seemed to straighten up significantly. As they headed up to the entrance, Giselle held onto his arm tighter, not wanting Daniel to pull away. "Please come follow me inside, just for a moment."

Daniel looked around all the guards, he grew nervous. He didn't particularly hate them, by any means, but he'd had a few run ins with guards around the city. He nodded his agreement to coming inside softly.

"Of course, anything you want Princess, I honestly had nothing better to do today," he admitted. He was curious what she had in mind.
